Aim: To assess the psychometric properties of the Thai version of Caregiver Contribution to Self‐Care of Chronic Illness Inventory version 2 (CC‐SC‐CII‐v2) among primary caregivers of individuals with any single or multiple chronic illnesses. Background: The instrument encompasses three scales that evaluate Caregiver Contribution to Self‐Care (CC‐SC) Maintenance, Monitoring and Management. Methods: The English version CC‐SC‐CII‐v2 was translated and adapted for Thai context, and a cross‐sectional multicenter study involved 430 caregivers from 16 primary care centres in Thailand. Structural validity, internal consistency reliability and test–retest reliability were examined. Results: The original two‐factor CC‐SC Maintenance scale required a re‐specified model for good fit, while the CC‐SC Monitoring and CC‐SC Management scales fit well. The simultaneous model of three scales demonstrated satisfactory fit. The CC‐SC Maintenance and CC‐SC Management scales both had a composite reliability index of 0.85, with omega coefficients of 0.86 and 0.83, respectively. CC‐SC Monitoring had an alpha coefficient of 0.89. The intraclass correlation coefficients ranging from 0.84 to 0.91, indicating good test–retest reliability. Conclusion: The Thai CC‐SC‐CII‐v2 is a valid and reliable instrument that can provide clinicians and investigators with an evaluation of the contributions of caregivers to the self‐care of patients with chronic illnesses. The Caregiver Contribution to Self‐Care of Chronic Illness Inventory (CC‐SC‐CII) is a theoretical‐based instrument initially created in the Western context.This inventory consists of three separate but interconnected scales for assessing caregiver involvement in patient self‐care maintenance, monitoring and management.Rigorous psychometric assessments conducted in Western contexts have affirmed the validity, reliability and effectiveness of the CC‐SC‐CII. What this paper adds? The introduction of the updated version, CC‐SC‐CII‐v2, likely presents challenges linked to cultural adaptation when applying it within the Thai context.This research constitutes a novel contribution to the field of caregiving studies in Thailand and the broader Asian region.The study offers new insights into the validity and reliability of the CC‐SC‐CII‐v2 within the context of Thai caregiving. However, little is known about the influence of clinical and demographic factors on self‐care or hospitalizations in this population.A cross‐sectional study.A convenience sample of 99 participants diagnosed with coronary heart disease awaiting coronary artery bypass grafting surgery were recruited from an outpatient clinic of a public tertiary hospital in southern Thailand. Data were collected on clinical (left ventricular ejection fraction, symptom severity and comorbid disease) and demographic (age, education level and marital status) factors, self‐care behaviour and hospitalization rates. Path analysis using LISREL was performed to examine the influence of self‐care on hospitalizations, with clinical and demographic factors as moderators.Path analysis showed that clinical and demographic factors accounted for nearly half of the variance (46%) in self‐care, and that self‐care accounted for nearly half of the variance (48%) in hospitalization rates.Our findings demonstrate that clinical and demographic factors play an important role in self‐care behaviour, and in turn hospitalization rates of pre‐coronary artery bypass graft surgery patients. Aims Engaging in self-care is an important aspect of the prevention and management of coronary heart disease (CHD), the leading cause of premature death in Thailand. As no validated tool exists to measure self-care in Thai people with CHD, we translated and examined the psychometric properties of the Self-Care of Coronary Heart Disease Inventory Version 3 (SC-CHDI-V3) in a Thai population. Methods and results The SC-CHDI-V3 was translated into Thai using the standard forward and backward translation procedure for self-care instruments. A cross-sectional design was used to examine the psychometric properties of the Thai version of the SC-CHDI-V3 in 250 patients with confirmed CHD in a tertiary hospital in southern Thailand. Cronbach's alpha and McDonald's omega coefficients were used to assess internal consistency, and confirmatory factor analysis was performed to assess construct validity. The Thai version of the SC-CHDI-V3 demonstrated acceptable internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha and McDonald's omega coefficients of each scale ranged from 0.821 to 0.910). Reliability estimates were adequate for each scale (range 0.863–0.906). Confirmatory factor analysis supported the original factor structure of the instrument, with good fit indices for all three scales (comparative fit index = 0.996–1.000; root mean square error of approximation = <0.001–0.040). Conclusions The Thai version of the SC-CHDI-V3 appears to be a valid and reliable instrument for measuring engagement in self-care maintenance, self-care monitoring, and self-care management among Thai people with CHD.
