Ethnic-racial identity (ERI) development is consequential for youth adjustment and includes exploration, resolution, and affect about the meaning of ones ethnic-racial group membership. Little is known about how identity-relevant experiences, such as ethnic-racial socialization and discrimination in peer relationships and school contexts, catalyze adolescent ERI development. The present study examines how identity-relevant experiences in friend and school contexts (i.e., proportion of same-ethnoracial friends, cultural socialization among friends, friends ERI dimensions, friends experiences of ethnoracial discrimination, and school promotion of cultural competence and critical consciousness) are associated with ERI development. A multivariate path model with a sample from four southwestern U.S. schools (N = 717; 50.5% girls; Mage = 13.76; 32% Latinx, 31.5% Multiethnic, 25.7% White, 11% other) was used to test these associations. Findings showed that friend and school predictors of ERI did not differ between early and middle adolescents, but significant differences and similarities emerged in some of these associations between ethnoracially minoritized and White youth. Specifically, friend cultural socialization was positively associated with ERI exploration for ethnoracially minoritized youth only, whereas school critical consciousness socialization was positively linked with ERI exploration only for White youth. Friend cultural socialization and friend networks levels of ERI resolution were positively associated with ERI resolution across both ethnoracial groups. These friend and school socialization associations were documented above and beyond significant contributions of personal ethnoracial discrimination to ERI exploration and negative affect for both ethnoracially minoritized and White youth. These findings expand our understanding of how friend and school socialization mechanisms are associated with adolescent ERI development, which is vital to advancing developmental theory and fostering developmental competences for youth to navigate their multicultural yet socially stratified and inequitable world.

Tyrosyl-DNA phosphodiesterases 1 and 2 (TDP1 and TDP2) are important DNA repair enzymes that remove various adducts from the 3′- and 5′-ends of DNA, respectively. The suppression of the activity of these enzymes is considered as a promising adjuvant therapy for oncological diseases in combination with topoisomerase inhibitors. The simultaneous inhibition of TDP1 and TDP2 may result in greater antitumor effects, as these enzymes can mimic each other’s functions. We have previously shown that usnic acid-based sulfides can act as dual inhibitors, with TDP1 activity in the low micromolar range and their TDP2 at 1 mM. The oxidation of their sulfide moieties to sulfoxides led to an order of magnitude decrease in their cytotoxicity potential, while their TDP1 and TDP2 activity was preserved. In this work, we synthesized new series of usnic acid-based sulfides and their oxidized analogues, i.e., sulfoxides and sulfones, to systematically study these irregularities. The new compounds inhibit TDP1 with IC50 values (the concentration of inhibitor required to reduce enzyme activity by half) in the 0.33–25 μM range. Most sulfides and some sulfoxides and sulfones inhibit TDP2 with an IC50 = 138−421 μM. In addition, the most active compounds synergized (×4) with topotecan on the HeLa cell line as well as causing dose-dependent DNA damage, as confirmed by Comet assay. Sulfides with the 6-methylbenzoimidazol-2-yl substituent (8f, IC50 = 0.33/138 μM, TDP1/2) and sulfones containing a pyridine-2-yl fragment (12k, IC50 = 2/228 μM, TDP1/2) are the most potent derivatives and, therefore, are promising for further development.

Abstract In the context of the antimicrobial therapy crisis, the significance of studying and implementing alternative treatment methods, particularly phage therapy, is increasingly evident. This study aimed to investigate the resistance of clinical Staphylococcus aureus ST239 strains to Herelleviridae phages through comparative genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics. Analysis of resistant and sensitive S. aureus strains showed that resistant strains form a separate cluster on the phylogenetic tree, suggesting unique genetic traits underlying their phage resistance. Further in-depth analysis of the resistant SA191 strain infected with Herelleviridae phage, compared to an uninfected control, unveiled significant changes in the transcription of 462 genes (271↑ 191↓) at 5 min and 504 genes (276↑ 228↓) at 30 min post-infection. Proteomic analysis identified 184 differentially abundant proteins (41↑ 143↓) at 30 min. Functional analysis highlighted changes in the glycolysis, the tricarboxylic acid cycle, and transport systems; notable, changes were also observed in the transcription of prophage genes. Despite the observed metabolic shifts, classical resistance mechanisms related to teichoic acid synthesis, restriction-modification, and toxin-antitoxin systems were not identified, suggesting the existence of other mechanism. Our study contributes to the elucidation of S. aureus resistance mechanisms against Herelleviridae phages, highlighting the intricate nature of bacterial defense mechanisms.

Despite the growing cultural diversity worldwide, there is scarce research on how socialization processes prepare youth to respond to increasing multicultural demands and the degree to which these socialization opportunities inform youth academic functioning. This study used a person-centered approach to identify profiles or niches based on the degree and consistency of multicultural socialization experiences across school, peer, and family settings and to examine the associations between identified niches and markers of academic functioning (i.e., emotional and behavioral academic engagement, academic aspirations and expectations) in a sample of adolescents (N = 717; Mage = 13.73 years). Participants (49.9% girls) were from the U.S. Southwest and represented multiple ethno-racial backgrounds (31.8% Hispanic/Latinx, 31.5% Multiethnic, 25.7% White, 7.3% Black or African American, 1.4% Asian American or Pacific Islander, 1.4% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 1% Arab, Middle Eastern, or North African). Six distinct multicultural socialization niches were identified. Three niches had similar patterns across school-peer-family but ranged in the degree of socialization. The cross-setting similar higher socialization niche (Niche 6) demonstrated greater socialization than the cross-setting similar moderate (Niche 5) and lower socialization (Niche 4) niches, which had moderate and lower socialization, respectively. Three niches demonstrated cross-setting dissimilarity which ranged in the type of cross-setting contrast and the degree of socialization. The cross-setting dissimilar school contrast socialization niche (Niche 3) had greater dissimilarities between socialization opportunities in the school setting compared to the peer and family settings and demonstrated the lowest levels of socialization of all niches. The other two niches, the cross-setting dissimilar peer contrast (Niche 1) and greater peer contrast socialization (Niche 2) niches had larger dissimilarities between socialization opportunities in the peer setting than the school and family settings. In the former, however, the contrast was lower, and socialization ranged between very low to low. In the latter, the contrast was higher and socialization ranged from very low to moderate. Most adolescents were in the cross-setting similar lower socialization niche or in the cross-setting dissimilar niches. Adolescents in the cross-setting similar higher multicultural socialization demonstrated greater emotional and behavioral academic engagement than adolescents in most of the other niches. Adolescents in the cross-setting dissimilar school contrast niches demonstrated lower emotional and behavioral academic engagement and lower academic expectations than adolescents in some of the other niches. The results emphasize the collective role of school, peer, and family multicultural socialization on emotional and behavioral academic engagement.

Background. Currently, the scientific search for alternative materials and methods for combating pathogens of infectious diseases is an important area of research. Carbon materials are one of the promising types of materials exhibiting antimicrobial and antifungal properties. The aim of the study is to investigate the antibacterial properties of modified carbon sorbents and initial modifiers in relation to some types of pathogenic microorganisms. The objects of the study were carbon sorbent samples before and after modification with biologically active substances with antibacterial properties: salicylic acid, sulfosalicylic acid, tributyrin. The samples of carbon sorbents under study were obtained at the Center of New Chem- ical Technologies BIC. The following strains of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria were used as experimental models: Staphylococcus aureus АТСС 25923; Pseudomonas aeruginosa АТСС 27853; Klebsiella pneumoniae 418; Esherichia coli АТСС 25922. Results. The highest sensitivity of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria was established for a carbon sor- bent modified with tributyrin. The absence of growth of the studied test strains of microorganisms was observed after 2 hours of incubation of the «sample-microorganism» mixture.

Objective. To evaluate the involvement of P. jirovecii in the infectious and other diseases in children and adults with immunosuppression of various origin. To assess the risk of infection with P. jirovecii, pneumocystosis and its spread by healthcare workers. Materials and Methods. An analysis of the results of a study of 1,446 samples of peripheral blood sera from patients, both children and adults, who were treated in hospitals of various profiles in Moscow and represented an increased risk group for pneumocystosis. IgM and IgG class antibodies were determined by enzyme immunoassay (ELISA). Indirect immunofluorescence assay was used to detect all forms of pneumocysts (cyst, precyst, trophozoite) in sputum. Results. The incidence of pneumocystosis infection was significantly higher in children with druginduced immunodeficiency after a related liver transplant (70.1%) than among children with HIV-related immunodeficiency (36.7%), t = 2.4. Markers of acute pneumocystosis were found in 36.7% of children who underwent transplantation and 10.0% with HIV infection (t = 2.4). The examination of HIV-infected adults, as well as patients whose HIV infection is complicated by tuberculosis, tuberculosis patients without HIV infection and healthy adults of the comparison group (donors) showed that markers of acute pneumocystosis were most often detected in tuberculosis patients – in 27.1% of cases, in 22.8% of HIVinfected with tuberculosis and in 21.1% of patients with HIV infection, while in the comparison group, markers of acute pneumocystosis were found in only 2.7% of donors. Markers of pneumocystosis were found in 62.6% of children with obstructive bronchitis, of whom 30.4% of patients had an active infection. In children with long-term subfebrile temperature, these indicators were 56.4% and 36.9%. Observation of frequently ill children revealed markers of pneumocystosis in 21.0%, more than half of them were carriers of P. jirovecii (11.3%), and 6.4% were diagnosed with acute pneumocystosis, but only 3.2% of the children had asymptomatic infection. According to a study of healthcare workers in several Moscow hospitals, they should be considered as a double-risk group due to the possibility of both infection and spread of pneumocystosis. Markers of acute infection (IgM, IgM + IgG) were found in 20.0–28.6% of healthcare workers. Acute pneumocystosis was diagnosed 2.4–3.4 times more frequently among healthcare workers than in the comparison group (8.3%). Conclusions. All of the studied pediatric and adult populations are at increased risk of contracting and spreading of pneumocystosis, which makes it necessary to monitor this infection in high-risk groups.

Introduction. The rational operation of the locomotive fleet is based on coordination of the locomotive turnover schedule with the train traffic schedule that assume unconditional fulfillment of standard transportation jobs and no less strict compliance with technical and technological standards for locomotive and train operations at locomotive turnover and re-coupling stations. Coordination is intended to set up balance of locomotives at traction interchange points. However, in the course of transportation, the intra-day dislocation of the operating fleet reaches significant unevenness and leads to imbalance. This requires a system for dispatching traction resources to their turnover and recoupling stations which will help to preserve traction balance at the interchange points to compensate for uneven intraday dislocation of the operating fleet, rationalise the locomotive fleet operations, and improve line capacity.Materials and methods. The balance of traction resources at locomotive turnover and re-coupling stations in intra-day intervals is achieved by interval regulation of traction resources.Results. The paper proposes an approach to establishing a balance of traction resources at current interlocking stations as the simplest type of turnover and recoupling stations (as a rule, they do not have additional adjacencies, using a one-to-one traction exchange). The approach applies the correlation between fluctuations in train traffic speeds and the amount of required traction reserves within daily three-hour intervals.Discussion and conclusion. This approach helps to improve the traction resource balancing technology at the current junction stations, and create a basis for building a mechanism for dispatching regulation reserves.

Mycobacteriophages are viruses that specifically infect bacteria of the Mycobacterium genus. A substantial collection of mycobacteriophages has been isolated and characterized, offering valuable insights into their diversity and evolution. This collection also holds significant potential for therapeutic applications, particularly as an alternative to antibiotics in combating drug-resistant bacterial strains. In this study, we report the isolation and characterization of a new mycobacteriophage, Vic9, using Mycobacterium smegmatis mc (2)155 as the host strain. Vic9 has been classified within the B2 subcluster of the B cluster. Morphological analysis revealed that Vic9 has a structure typical of siphophages from this subcluster and forms characteristic plaques. The phage adsorbs onto host strain cells within 30 min, and according to one-step growth experiments, its latent period lasts about 90 min, followed by a growth period of 150 min, with an average yield of approximately 68 phage particles per infected cell. In host range experiments, Vic9 efficiently lysed the host strain and also exhibited the ability to lyse M. tuberculosis H37Rv, albeit with a low efficiency of plating (EOP ≈ 2 × 10−5), a typical feature of B2 phages. No lysis was observed in other tested mycobacterial species. The genome of Vic9 comprises 67,543 bp of double-stranded DNA and encodes 89 open reading frames. Our analysis revealed unique features in Vic9, despite its close relationship to other B2 subcluster phages, highlighting its distinct characteristics even among closely related phages. Particularly noteworthy was the discovery of a distinct 435 bp sequence within the gene cluster responsible for queuosine biosynthesis, as well as a recombination event within the structural cassette region (Vic_0033-Vic_0035) among members of the B1, B2, and B3 subclusters. These genetic features are of interest for further research, as they may reveal new mechanisms of phage-bacteria interactions and their potential for developing novel phage therapy methods.

Recent theoretical ideas emphasise the non-direct environmental influences on child development. Environmental factors affect child development by the principle of refraction rather than by the principle of reflection: any environmental condition is refracted in a child’s mind in unique ways depending on his or her actual abilities and personal attitude to the situation. Complexity and multidimensionality of the relationship between environment and psychological prosseses poses a great challenge to the researchers. This paper provides a theoretical analysis and justification of the prospective use of the concept of ‘perezhivanie’, as a tool for theoretical analyses of child development and a practical phenomenon that allows to explore how a child interprets and emotionally relates to certain events or moments in the environment. Perezhivanie is considered as the unit of analysis of consciousness in cultural-historical theory. A case study of an intervention in emotional development through visual arts is presented as an illustration of using the concept of ‘perezhivanie’ to design practical sessions with children and to analyse the way in which their minds work in learning processes. The findings suggest that the study of perezhivanie for theoretical and practical purposes is promising, as this phenomenon can provide rich data on how a child interprets and relates to a particular event or moment in the environment.

Abstract Electrochemical C−N coupling presents a promising strategy for converting abundant small molecules like CO2 and NO3− to produce low‐carbon‐intensity chemicals in a potentially more sustainable route. A prominent challenge is the limited product scope, particularly for organonitrogen chemicals featuring a variety of functional groups, alongside the limited understanding of plausible reaction mechanisms leading up to these products. In light of this, the total electrosynthesis method is reported for producing N, N‐dimethylformamide (DMF), a widespread solvent and commodity chemical, from NO3− and CO2. This method enabled a notable production rate of 1.24 mmol h−1 gcat−1 for DMF employing a hybrid Ag/Cu catalyst. Additionally, an impressive Faradaic efficiency (FE) of 28.6% is attained for DMF through oxidative coupling of dimethylamine using Ag/Cu catalyst. Through a distinctive retrosynthetic experimental analysis, the DMF synthesis pathway is systematically deconstructed, tracing its origins from dimethylamine to methylamine, and ultimately to CO2 and NO3−. The investigation revealed that the hydrogenation of coupled intermediates proves to be the limiting step, rather than the C−N coupling steps in the synthetic pathway. Finally, using a combination of in situ measurements and retrosynthetic analysis, the possible mechanism is elucidated underlying DMF synthesis and identified subsequent routes for system improvement.

The combined use of lytic bacteriophages with antibiotics is currently being explored as a strategy to enhance the effectiveness of infectious disease therapies, including those caused by Staphylococcus aureus. In this study, we investigated the synergistic potential of bacteriophage vB_SauM-515A1 (Herelleviridae family) and the first-line antibiotic linezolid against the methicillin-resistant S. aureus strain SA0413Rev. A checkerboard assay revealed a significant synergistic effect against planktonic cells (FIC = 0.225): a combination of 1/8 MIC of linezolid and 0.01 MOI of the bacteriophage completely inhibited bacterial growth. However, the impact on biofilm-associated cells depended on the treatment sequence. Sequential administration resulted in antagonism, while simultaneous application demonstrated a synergistic effect, as confirmed through scanning electron microscopy. Transcriptomic analysis of S. aureus SA0413Rev under the combined influence of linezolid (1/4 MIC) and bacteriophage vB_SauM-515A1 (10 MOI) predominantly reflected changes associated with productive bacteriophage infection, including alterations in nucleotide metabolism, activation of prophage regions, and virulence factors. Furthermore, both agents affected energy and carbon metabolism. These findings contribute to the development of combination therapy approaches for infections caused by S. aureus and highlight the importance of optimizing treatment conditions for maximal therapeutic efficacy.

Toxoplasma gondii infections in small mammals are important because they serve as source of infection for the felids who excrete environmentally resistant oocysts in their feces. Here, the authors sought evidence for T. gondii infection in shrews and rodents in Armenia for the first time. Toxoplasma gondii DNA was detected in tissues of trapped animals using a specific PCR targeting gene with a non-coding fragment length of 529 bp. Toxoplasma gondii DNA was detected in 15 out of 137 (10.9%) samples from small mammals from 6 different localities of Armenia for the first time.

This review examines the application and findings related to the Perceived Stress Scale for Children (PSS-C) since its development by B. White in 2014. The PSS-C is designed to assess children’s perceived stress, focusing on their subjective experience rather than objective stressors. Our review utilized the PRISMA method to systematically collect and analyze pertinent literature, with a specific focus on studies which utilized the PSS-C. A comprehensive screening process reduced the extensive initial search results from various databases, ultimately resulting in the inclusion of 21 studies. These studies were assessed based on criteria that included publication date, language, and relevance to children’s perceived stress. We categorized the selected studies into several themes: (1) the impact of COVID-19 and the return to school; (2) mindfulness as a coping mechanism; (3) the effectiveness of breathing techniques; (4) mental health intervention programs; and (5) the cultural context of stress. The review also highlighted potential biases in the studies, particularly concerning sample size and randomization procedures. Key findings from the reviewed studies included the significant impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children’s perceived stress, the role of mindfulness and breathing techniques in stress reduction, and the effectiveness of intervention programs. In conclusion, the review emphasized the significance of the PSS-C as a tool for evaluating perceived stress in children and stressed the necessity for additional research to examine its connections with different psychological and social factors. The findings underscore the importance of supportive parent–child interactions, especially during challenging situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic, and the possible advantages of mindfulness and other coping mechanisms in reducing stress. Subsequent research should persist in enhancing stress assessment tools and exploring the enduring impacts of stress on children’s growth and welfare.

This article considers the process of transformation of the Russian Federation nuclear law into an independent public complex branch of law and its important role in improving global nuclear safety. Since it is well known that the criteria of distinguishing branches of law are usually the subject and method of legal regulation as well as the existence of their own codification, the authors are confident of such a need. The results of the analysis of the state corporation Rosatom activities serve as the basis for the proposed theses and only confirm this confidence. The main idea of the article is to assert the need for changes in the Russian legal system structure in order to increase the effectiveness of regulation in the field of nuclear safety. The paper examines the evolution of nuclear law in Russia, identifies the basic principles and norms of this area of law as well as the need to make changes to adapt to modern challenges and threats. Supporting its position by analyzing the current state of the Russian nuclear industry and world standards in the field of nuclear safety, the article suggests practical steps to strengthen legal regulation to ensure safety in the nuclear field. Special attention is paid to the importance of strengthening international nuclear safety through the modernization of the national nuclear legal system, its compliance with international norms and standards. The article discusses current issues, including the development of nuclear doctrine, control of nuclear materials, responsibility for violation of international nuclear obligations and other aspects affecting global nuclear security. The study is an important contribution to understanding the problems of nuclear law in the context of global safety, and also substantiates the need for independent development of this branch of law to ensure stability and security on the world stage. The authors of the article offer specific recommendations for improving legislation and practice in the field of nuclear law in order to strengthen global nuclear safety

Objective. Analyzing the correlations between the attributes of deceptive self-representation on a social network and formal attributes, motivations for utilizing social networks, the incorporation of social networks into everyday routines, and feelings of loneliness. Background. The frequent utilization of social networks is linked to the necessity of projecting one's digital persona. Social networks offer more possibilities for deceit in self-representation. Insufficient research has been conducted on self-presentation that is intended to be demonstrative, with the goal of impressing or deceiving others, as well as the correlation between such false self-presentation and other psychological traits and patterns of social media usage. Study design. The study investigated the correlation between measures of deceptive self-presentation, duration of social media usage, quantity of social media platforms, number of social media connections, reasons for using social media, measures of social media integration into daily routines, and feelings of loneliness. The correlation and regression analyses were used to assess the existence and characteristics of the association. Participants. A total of 432 adolescents, with 54% being girls, were included in the study. Their ages ranged from 13 to 18 years old, with a mean age of 15,6 years and a standard deviation of 1,18. Measurements. Questions pertaining to the formal attributes of social media utilization. The items that comprise the study include the Social Media Integration Scale, the Social Network Use Motives Scale, the Three-Item Loneliness Scale, and the Social Network Self-Presentation Scale. Results. Specificity is revealed in the relationships between the characteristics of false self-presentation. A desire to make an impression and the act of displaying oneself both share comparable connections, in contrast to the act of presenting oneself in a deceitful manner. Factors that can be used to anticipate deceptive self-presentation include the duration of social network usage, the extensive incorporation of social networks into everyday activities, motives related to gaming, and experiences of loneliness. Conclusions. False self-presentation is linked to the formal aspects of social network usage, motivational traits, and feelings of loneliness.

Abstract The study of rapid and stochastic events that involve multiple species, such as chemical reactions and plasma dynamics, requires means to capture multispectral information in two dimensions at both high temporal- and spatial resolution. Commercially available cameras that provide high temporal resolution are based on either signal intensification or rapid data acquisition. Intensified cameras provide extremely short acquisition times using intensification by means of micro channel plates, but the conversion between electrons and photons makes these cameras inherently monochrome. In contrast, high-speed cameras can achieve color-sensitivity through integrated Bayer filters but suffer from a reduced light collection efficiency and a fixed spectral composition. In this article we present a non-integrated optical arrangement for instantaneous multispectral imaging based on FRAME image multiplexing. By spectrally separating the signal using lossless dichroic mirrors, a 16-fold increase in light-collection efficiency is gained (compared to past solutions), resulting in an equivalent increase in temporal resolution. This improvement provides new avenues for multispectral imaging of rapid events. We demonstrate the system’s versatility and suitability for studies of such processes by applying it for (i) temperature mapping using a high-resolution CCD camera, (ii) high-speed videography up to 10 kHz at four spectral channels and (iii) dual-species visualization in a plasma discharge using an intensified sCMOS camera.

In this work, the main goal was to analyse the erosional hazards within the boundaries of the Kalaus River catchment area.The paper analyses the erosive state of the region's lands, for which industry and cadastral maps, a digital elevation model and satellite images were used. Official data of ministries and departments were used. Geographic information systems – QGIS and SAGA GIS – served as the basis for modelling. The article presents the results of GIS modeling of erosional hazards in the territory of the Kalaus River basin. Based on the (DEM) SRTM digital elevation model, the basic morphometric indicators of the relief were calculated: steepness of the slopes and vertical and horizontal dissection of the relief. Based on morphometric indicators, an integral calculation of the energy of relief and erosion hazard was carried out and a series of relevant thematic maps was created. The values of slope steepness obtained within the boundaries of the basin range from 0° to 51° with average values of 2.5°. The horizontal dissection varies in the range from 0 to 0.84 km/km2, and the erosion bases are characterized by a range of values from – 15.0 to 248.6 m, with an average value of 33.0 m. The formation of the erosional potential of the basin’s relief is facilitated by the location of a significant part of the region on the spurs of the Stavropol Upland, which have widely developed slopes. Based on the calculated raster of the integral energy index of the relief, 3 categories of erosional hazard are identified. Most of the basin of the Kalaus River (58.4 %) is characterised by a low erosion hazard, another 39.0 % of the territory presents an average erosion hazard, and the remaining 2.9 % belongs to territories with a strong erosion hazard. The classification of relief surface shapes based on the Iwahashi and Pike method, which was carried out on the basis of a DEM, shows a much greater prevalence of steep slopes with high convexity in the southern part of the Kalaus River basin.The identified features of the level of erosional hazard of the lands of the Kalaus River basin are recommended to be taken into account in preinvestment, pre‐design and urban project planning of the territories of administrative units located within the boundaries of the basin. Despite the fact that the results of GIS analysis cannot completely replace field erosion surveys, their value as a tool for planning rational land use is obvious. The results of the work can be used to carry out a similar assessment in other regions, primarily in the organisation of agricultural production.

Abstract Sphaeropsidins are iso-pimarane diterpenes produced by phytopathogenic fungi that display promising anticancer activities. Sphaeropsidin A, in particular, has been shown to counteract regulatory volume increase, a process used by cancer cells to avoid apoptosis. This study reports the hemi-synthesis of new lipophilic derivatives obtained by modifications of the C15,C16-alkene moiety. Several of these compounds triggered severe ER swelling associated with strong proteasomal inhibition and consequently cell death, a feature that was not observed with respect to mode of action of the natural product. Significantly, an analysis from the National Cancer Institute sixty cell line testing did not reveal any correlations between the most potent derivative and any other compound in the database, except at high concentrations (LC50). This study led to the discovery of a new set of sphaeropsidin derivatives that may be exploited as potential anti-cancer agents, notably due to their maintained activity towards multidrug resistant models.

Background. Modern psychology of parenting offers various phenomena for study, including parental relations, parental attitudes, and parenting practices. The study of parental attitudes enables us to describe the cognitive aspect of the family environment in which the child develops. Previous studies have found a significant association between parental attitudes and the cognitive and socio-emotional development of children. However, their results are ambiguous and require further clarification. Objectives. The aim of this study is to analyze the connection between parental attitudes regarding the necessity of structuring the environment or supporting the child's spontaneous activity, and the indicators of the child's cognitive and socio-emotional development. In addition, the study examines the presence of confrontation between parents regarding the characteristics of upbringing and fostering. Study Participants. The main sample of the study consisted of 338 people, specifically parents of preschool children, aged from 23 to 65 years (M = 36.63, SD = 5.004), and their children aged from 53 to 81 months (M = 70.36, SD = 4.198). Methods. We developed three groups of statements to identify parental attitudes: 1) statements about the organization of the child's life; 2) statements about the role of play activities; 3) statements about confrontational attitudes within the family. Indicators of children's cognitive development were identified using J. Raven's Colored Progressive Matrices and subtests of the NEPSY-II method. Social-emotional features were identified with the "Test for Understanding Emotions". Results. Most parents consider a structured environment to be more important for the well-being of their child. In addition, research has shown that attitudes towards the positive impact of a structured environment are a strong predictor of a child's nonverbal intelligence. Similarly, attitudes towards the importance of spontaneous activity are predictors of auditory-verbal memory and the ability to switch tasks efficiently. Parental attitudes did not show any associations with the socio-emotional development of children. Conclusions. Parental attitudes play a significant role in child development. The belief in the need to structure the child's environment may have positive effects on the child's cognitive development. However, it does not affect social-emotional development. On the other hand, the belief in the need for spontaneous activity is more likely to be associated with lower levels of executive functioning in the child.

African swine fever is one of the most serious threats to the world pig industry due to high infectivity and mortality rates among pigs. To date, no effective means of active prevention of the infection have been developed. The only effective method of control is passive monitoring of the spread of the pathogen among the population of domestic and wild pigs, detection of infected animals and their depopulation. The study analyzes the spread of African swine fever in Ukraine from 2012 to 2024 and compares it with the countries that share a common border – Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Moldova. In Ukraine, the first outbreaks were recorded in 2012 in Zaporizhzhia region among domestic pigs. In total, 619 outbreaks were detected during the study period: 482 among domestic pigs and 137 among wild pigs. The largest number of outbreaks was recorded in Odesa (64), Poltava (54), Mykolaiv (52) and Kyiv (46) regions. In Eastern European countries, African swine fever was detected later: in Poland – since 2014 (1304 among domestic and 17871 among wild pigs), Romania – since 2017 (6729 and 3649, respectively), Hungary and Slovakia – since 2018 (0 and 7875; 72 and 3645). In Moldova, the first outbreak was in 2020 (39 among domestic and 45 among wild pigs). The highest total number of outbreaks was recorded in Poland (19175), mainly among wild boars (93.2%). In Hungary, all detected cases involved wild animals. The analysis revealed a statistically significant difference in the number of African swine fever outbreaks between the analyzed countries. There is also a difference in the number of outbreaks within the analyzed time period. If we analyze the number of cases since 2018, there is no statistically significant difference. Prevention and control of African swine fever are complicated by the circulation of the pathogen among wild boars, non-compliance with biosecurity measures by owners of small pig farms and the movement of infected animals. Comprehensive monitoring with early detection of outbreaks and timely destruction of infected animals plays a key role.

Background. Previous studies have assumed that a materialistic value orientation is correlates with personality traits such as honesty, neuroticism, and agreeableness. Less is known about the relationship between features of a materialistic orientation such as acquisition centrality, acquisition as the pursuit of happiness, and possession-defined success, and the Dark Triad traits. This article presents a study on the relationship between materialism, the Dark Triad traits (Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy), and money management. Objective. The study aimed to investigate whether groups exhibiting various combinations of materialism and Dark Triad traits have disparities in financial control and accountability, which serve as indicators of money management. Design. Questionnaire-based surveys were conducted online, with a total of 442 undergraduate students age 18 to 25 participating. The participants filled out the Short Dark Triad measure, the Material Values Scale, and the Money Management Scale, in addition to providing their demographics. Results. Four combinations of materialistic and Dark Triad traits were revealed (Bright and Dark Materialists and Non-materialists). Bright and Dark Materialists were more self-centered and manipulative than Non-materialists. Strong materialism, paired with the lowest degree of Dark Triad characteristics, resulted in the worst financial management. On the contrary, individuals with low materialistic tendencies in addition to high Dark Triad traits tended to have better ability to managing their finances. Conclusion. It is possible to assume that materialism is a strategy for obtaining riches, positions, and reputation at the cost of others in the case of "dark" personalities. Nevertheless, those with low levels of materialism and low Dark Triad characteristics showed better abilities to handle their finances in terms of control and responsibility.

Introduction. The study was carried out to determine the possible causes of damage to the finishing plaster coverings on the facades of historical stone buildings, built in St. Petersburg before 1917, as a result of their humidification and subsequent frost destruction.Materials and methods. The mechanism of humidification of a homogeneous wall structure plastered on both sides due to the moisture transfer from the room to the environment through the wall thickness due to the difference in partial pressures of water vapour from inside and outside the room during the cold season is studied. The paper provides the graphs of the distribution of the actual and maximum partial pressures of water vapour over the thickness of the wall structure, depending on the type of plaster covering, for two calculated cases — for the conditions of the coldest month and the coldest five-day period in St. Petersburg.Results. It is revealed that for the conditions of the coldest month in St. Petersburg, the actual partial pressure of water vapour in the thickness of the wall structure under consideration does not exceed the maximum, which indicates the absence of conditions for moisture condensation in the thickness of the wall envelope. However, as the vapour permeability of the external plaster decreases, the curves of the distribution of the actual and maximum partial pressures converge at the interface of the stone base and the plaster covering. For the conditions of the coldest five-day period, the actual partial pressure of water vapour already at a distance of 135 mm from the inner surface exceeds the maximum partial pressure, which indicates a high risk of moisture condensation, and this risk is the higher the less vapour permeable the plaster covering is.Conclusions. It is proven that when the coldest outdoor temperatures are established, there is a high probability of condensation of water vapour in the thickness of the wall structure under consideration. The highest risk of freezing of the condensable moisture will be observed at the interface of stone base with the external plaster. Freezing of moisture in cracks and voids in the contact zone of the stone base and the plaster covering can lead to water trapping, the occurrence of significant internal stresses in the finishing layer and, as a result, to its gradual damage, up to the loss of individual fragments of plaster.
