The authors developed and validated the Korean version of the Experiences in Close Relationships-Short Form (K-ECRR-SF) with the goal of developing a culturally responsive scale. In study 1, a Rasch analysis was conducted on the 36 original items in the ECR-Revised (ECR-R) to select items that best represent anxiety and avoidance subscales by considering cultural equivalence. In study 2, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted for the selected 12 items with a different sample. The factor structures of the ECR-R and K-ECRR-SF through CFA were then compared through CFA. In addition, the K-ECRR-SF items were tested for related constructs (i.e., reassurance and support seeking, loneliness, dyadic satisfaction, depression, anxiety, and fear of intimacy) to its criterion evidence. The newly developed K-ECRR-SF is confirmed to be valid and culturally responsive scale in measuring attachment in Korea.

Cancer-related fatigue is a highly prevalent and distressing symptom that negatively affects the quality of life of patients in all stages of cancer, including survivors. The Cancer Fatigue Scale (CFS) is a 15-item multidimensional instrument with the potential to enhance comprehension of fatigue. This study aimed to translate the original English version of the CFS into Korean and establish the validity and reliability of the translated version. A cross-sectional descriptive design was used to translate and validate the CFS in Korean. Factor analyses were performed to understand and establish construct and convergent validity with the Brief Fatigue Inventory (BFI), Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Fatigue (FACT-F), and European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Core-30 (EORTC QLQ-C30). The CFS demonstrated good internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha coefficient for all 15 items = 0.806); the Kaiser–Meyer–Olkin Measure of Sampling Adequacy was found to be 0.897, and Bartlett's test of sphericity was significant (p < 0.001). Moderate correlations were found between BFI, FACT-F, and EROTC QLQ-C30, indicating moderate validity. However, there were differences in factorial validity between the original scale and the Korean version, demonstrating a need for further testing in a homogenous population of cancer patients. The findings of this validation and reliability study showed that the Korean version of the CFS is a concise, reliable, feasible, and practical tool for evaluating the multidimensional aspects of cancer-related fatigue in patients with cancer. We sought to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Korean adaptation of the Scoliosis Japanese Questionnaire-27 (SJ-27). This involved translating the English SJ-27 into Korean and back-translating it, followed by completing all stages of the cross-cultural adaptation process. Subsequently, the Korean SJ-27, along with the validated Scoliosis Research Society-22 (SRS-22) questionnaire, was administered to 140 consecutive idiopathic scoliosis patients wearing a brace. Reliability was determined using kappa statistics to assess agreement for each item, the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), and Cronbach's α. Construct validity was established by comparing responses on the SJ-27 with those on the SRS-22 using Pearson's correlation coefficient. All items showed kappa statistics indicating agreement above 0.6. The SJ-27 demonstrated excellent test-retest reliability (ICC=0.91). Internal consistency measured by Cronbach's α was very good (α = 0.898). The Korean version of the SJ-27 exhibited significant correlations with both the total score and individual domain scores of the SRS-22. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to evaluate the reliability and validity of the adapted Korean version of the Quality-of-Life Profile for Spine Deformities (QLPSD) questionnaire. PATIENTS AND METHODS: English version of QLPSD was translated into Korean according to previously published guidelines. The Korean version of the QLPSD questionnaire and the Korean version of the SRS-22 was sent to 120 consecutive idiopathic scoliosis patients wearing braces recruited from the outpatient clinic. Reliability assessment and construct validity were evaluated. RESULTS: The intraobserver reliability of all items in the questionnaire had a kappa statistic of agreement greater than 0.6. The QLPSD showed good test/re-test reliability (ICC = 0.815). The internal consistency of Cronbach's α was found to be very good (α = 0 .918). T he K orean v ersion o f QLPSD showed a significant correlation with the SRS-22 total score (p<0.001, r=-0.811) and single SRS-22 domains scores. CONCLUSIONS: The adapted Korean version of the QLPSD was successfully translated and showed good measurement properties. Translation/retranslation of the English version of ISYQOL was conducted, and all steps of the cross-cultural adaptation process were performed. The Korean version of the ISYQOL and the previously validated Scoliosis Research Society-22 (SRS-22) questionnaire were mailed to 120 consecutive idiopathic scoliosis patients wearing brace. Factor analysis and reliability assessment by kappa statistics of agreement for each item, the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Cronbach's α were conducted. Construct validity was also evaluated by comparing the responses of ISYQOL with the responses of SRS-22 by using Pearson's correlation coefficient. Factor analysis extracted 2 factors. All items had a kappa statistics of agreement greater than 0.6. The ISYQOL showed good test/re-test reliability (ICC = 0.812). Internal consistency of Cronbach's α was found to be very good (α = 0.873). The Korean version of ISYQOL showed good significant correlation with SRS-22 total score and with single SRS-22 domains scores. The adapted Korean version of the ISYQOL was successfully translated and showed acceptable measurement properties, and as such, is considered suitable for outcome assessments in the Korean speaking patients with idiopathic scoliosis. Purpose. The purpose of this pilot study is to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Korean version of the oral health impact profile (OHIP-EDENT K) for edentulous patients. Materials and methods. The study was conducted on 12 patients who fabricated overdenture in the Department of Prosthodontics, Korea University, Guro Hospital. All subjects completed the Korean version of Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP K) questionnaire. Shorten version of the OHIP called OHIP-14 K and OHIP-EDENT K were derived from the datasets. Cronbach's alpha was used to measure internal consistency of the summary scores for OHIP-EDENT K. The Spearman's correlation coefficient between the summary scores for OHIPEDENT K and OHIP K was calculated to evaluate concurrent validity. Results. The reliability of the summary scores for OHIP-EDENT K was acceptable (α=.736). The Spearman's correlation coefficient of the summary scores for OHIP-EDENT K and OHIP K was 0.966, which was statistically significant (P<.001). OHIP-EDENT K exhibited less susceptibility to floor effects than OHIP-14 K and appeared to measure change as effectively as OHIP K. In order to prove the reliability, responsiveness and validity of OHIP-EDENT K, further studies with more samples are needed. Conclusion. The OHIP-EDENT K, a questionnaire on oral health-related QOL comprising 19 items, has measurement properties comparable with the full 49-item version. To assess the validity and reliability of the Korean version of the reflux symptom score (K-RSS). The English version of the RSS was translated into Korean and completed by 77 people (44 and 33 people in the patient group and control group, respectively). They completed the K-RSS (K-RSS-1) and reflux symptom index (RSI) questionnaires and answered questions about age, sex, underlying disease, smoking history, and alcohol and coffee consumption. They completed the K-RSS once more (K-RSS-2) after 1 – 2 weeks. Internal consistency was evaluated using Cronbach's α and test-retest reliability using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). External validity was evaluated using the Spearman rank test between the RSI and K-RSS. The Mann-Whitney U test was used to assess internal validity by comparing the K-RSS-1 scores between the patient and control groups. The most common symptoms were globus sensation, throat clearing, and throat pain. The K-RSS reported high internal consistency (α = 0.894). The ICC for the total score was 0.883, indicating excellent test–retest reliability. According to the Spearman analysis, there was a significant correlation between the total score of the K-RSS and that of the RSI (rs = 0.902; P < 0.001), demonstrating strong external validity. Furthermore, the patient group showed significantly higher values than the control group in all K-RSS scores, suggesting high internal validity. Objective Autonomic symptoms are commonly observed in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD) and often limit the activities of daily living. The Scale for Outcomes in Parkinson’s disease-Autonomic (SCOPA-AUT) was developed to evaluate and quantify autonomic symptoms in PD. The goal of this study was to translate the original SCOPA-AUT, which was written in English, into Korean and to evaluate its reliability and validity for Korean PD patients. Methods For the translation, the following processes were performed: forward translation, backward translation, expert review, pretest of the pre-final version and development of the final Korean version of SCOPA-AUT (K-SCOPA-AUT). In total, 127 patients with PD from 31 movement disorder clinics of university-affiliated hospitals in Korea were enrolled in this study. All patients were assessed using the K-SCOPA-AUT and other motor, non-motor, and quality of life scores. Test-retest reliability for the K-SCOPA-AUT was assessed over a time interval of 10−14 days. Results The internal consistency and reliability of the K-SCOPA-AUT was 0.727 as measured by the mean Cronbach’s α-coefficient. The test-retest correlation reliability was 0.859 by the Guttman split-half coefficient. The total K-SCOPA-AUT score showed a positive correlation with other non-motor symptoms [the Korean version of non-motor symptom scale (K-NMSS)], activities of daily living (Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale part II) and quality of life [the Korean version of Parkinson’s Disease Quality of Life 39 (K-PDQ39)]. Conclusion The K-SCOPA-AUT had good reliability and validity for the assessment of autonomic dysfunction in Korean PD patients. Autonomic symptom severities were associated with many other motor and non-motor impairments and influenced quality of life.

Background: Measuring accurate and reliable scores of quality of life in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is important in both decision-making and treatment planning for the disease. Questionnaire, The ankylosing spondylitis quality of life (ASQoL), is one of the representative tools for assessing how seriously AS patients view their disease severity, activity, as well as their overall health. To make these types of questionnaires readable and understandable, local language translation of surveys should be required. A Korean version of the ASQoL questionnaire has accordingly been developed. This study assessed the Korean version of the ASQoL survey to evaluate the reliability and validity of it., Methods: Translation and reverse translation of the English ASQoL survey were conducted. A total of 120 consecutive AS patients received a mail including the Korean-translated 36-Item Short Form Survey (SF-36), the ASQoL survey, and the visual analog scale (pain). The coefficient of intraclass correlation and Cronbach's alpha were computed, and factor analysis, as well as reliability assessments utilizing the kappa agreement statistics for each item, was undertaken. By analyzing the responses to SF-36 and ASQoL questionnaire utilizing Pearson's correlation coefficient, construct validity was calculated., Results: Factor analysis was performed regarding pain, physical function, and mental function. The kappa statistic of agreement was larger than 0.6 for all items. The ASQoL questionnaire had adequate test and re-test reliability (0.814). Furthermore, Cronbach'sα, the internal consistency, was very good (0.877). The Korean-translated ASQoL questionnaire demonstrated a significantly strong correlation between the single domain and total SF-36 scores., Conclusions: The Korean version of the ASQoL questionnaire showed acceptable properties of measurement and successful translation. Background: Despite the significant advances in neonatal treatment and care over the past 30 years, palliative care in the neonatal intensive care unit has not been fully provided in South Korea. Neonatal nurses are essential professionals in palliative care as they are directly involved in the care, but there is little information on their palliative care competency because no assessment instrument is available in Korea., Objectives: The aim of this study was to develop and test the validity and reliability of the Korean version of the Palliative Care Nursing Self-Competence scale for neonatal palliative care., Methods: This scale for infant care was developed through parallel translation techniques and revised based on cognitive interviews. Survey data were then collected from 220 neonatal nurses who worked in 13 neonatal intensive care units in Korea. Internal consistency reliability, construct validity based on exploratory factor analysis, and criterion-related validity were tested., Results: The final version of the scale included 40 items in five domains that explained 53.4% of the variance. Criterion-related validity was confirmed based on a positive correlation with the Korean version of the attitudes towards neonatal palliative care measurement tool. Purpose: To cross-culturally adapt the Identification Functional Ankle Instability for use with Korean-speaking participants. Methods: The English version of the IdFAI was cross-culturally adapted into Korean based on the guidelines. The psychometric properties in the Korean version of the IdFAI were measured for test-retest reliability, internal consistency, criterion-related validity, discriminative validity, and measurement error 181 native Korean-speakers. Results: Intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC2,1) between the English and Korean versions of the IdFAI for test-retest reliability was 0.98 (standard error of measurement = 1.41). The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was 0.89 for the Korean versions of IdFAI. The Korean versions of the IdFAI had a strong correlation with the SF-36 (rs = −0.69, p < .001) and the Korean version of the Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool (rs = −0.65, p < .001). The cutoff score of >10 was the optimal cutoff score to distinguish between the group memberships. The minimally detectable change of the Korean versions of the IdFAI score was 3.91. Conclusion: The Korean versions of the IdFAI have shown to be an excellent, reliable, and valid instrument. The Korean versions of the IdFAI can be utilized to assess the presence of Chronic Ankle Instability by researchers and clinicians working among Korean-speaking populations. Implications for rehabilitation: The high recurrence rate of sprains may result into Chronic Ankle Instability (CAI). The Identification of Functional Ankle Instability Tool (IdFAI) has been validated and recommended to identify patients with Chronic Ankle Instability (CAI). Methods: The Greek version of the BrQ was translated/retranslated, and all steps of the cross-cultural adaptation process were performed. The K-BrQ and the previously validated Korean version of the Scoliosis Research Society-22 Outcomes questionnaire (K-SRS-22) were mailed to 120 patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Reliability assessments were conducted using kappa statistics to assess item agreements, and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) and Cronbach's α values were calculated. Convergent validity was evaluated by comparing the K-BrQ and K-SRS-22 scores and discriminant validity by analyzing relationships between the K-BrQ scores and patient characteristics. Results: 103 patients filled in questionnaires twice. All items of the K-BrQ had kappa values of agreement of >0.6. The K-BrQ showed an excellent test/re-test reliability with an ICC of 0.913. The internal consistency of the K-BrQ was found to be very good (α = 0.872). The convergent validity testing demonstrated a strong correlation between the K-BrQ and K-SRS-22 (r = 712). The correlation between the K-BrQ and major curve magnitude was significant (r = −0.302). Conclusion: The adapted K-BrQ showed satisfactory reliability and validity and is thus considered suitable for monitoring the quality of life of Korean-speaking patients with AIS during brace treatment. Despite advancements in treating ruptured cerebral aneurysms, an aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) is still a grave cerebrovascular disease associated with a high rate of morbidity and mortality. Based on the literature published to date, worldwide academic and governmental committees have developed clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) to propose standards for disease management in order to achieve the best treatment outcomes for aSAHs. In 2013, the Korean Society of Cerebrovascular Surgeons issued a Korean version of the CPGs for aSAHs. The group researched all articles and major foreign CPGs published in English until December 2015 using several search engines. Based on these articles, levels of evidence and grades of recommendations were determined by our society as well as by other related Quality Control Committees from neurointervention, neurology and rehabilitation medicine. The Korean version of the CPGs for aSAHs includes risk factors, diagnosis, initial management, medical and surgical management to prevent rebleeding, management of delayed cerebral ischemia and vasospasm, treatment of hydrocephalus, treatment of medical complications and early rehabilitation. The CPGs are not the absolute standard but are the present reference as the evidence is still incomplete, each environment of clinical practice is different, and there is a high probability of variation in the current recommendations. This study assessed the reliability and validity of the Korean version of the 15-item Dispositional Resilience Scale (DRS-15) in a sample of Korean adults. In a baseline study conducted in June 2015, the DRS-15, Center for Epidemiologic Studies-Depression Scale (CES-D), and Korean Resilience Questionnaire-53 (KRQ-53) were administered to 409 Korean adults aged 20-79 years. A 1-year follow-up study was conducted in June 2016, and the CES-D was administered to assess predictive validity. Confirmatory factor analysis identified three dimensions for the DRS-15: commitment, control, and challenge (χ2/df = 2.32, GFI = .90, AGFI = .88, RMR = .04, TLI = .91, NFI = .89, and RMSEA = .05), and concurrent and predictive validity were demonstrated via the CES-D and KRQ-53. Furthermore, the DRS-15 established known-group validity. Cronbach's alpha coefficients for internal consistency reliability of the three subscales ranged from.75 to.83. Convergent validity was evaluated by comparing K-SAQ and K-SRS-22 appearance domain scores and discriminant validity by analyzing relationships between K-SAQ scores and patient characteristics. RESULTS: All items of the K-SAQ had kappa values of agreement of > 0.6. The K-SAQ showed excellent test/re-test reliability with an intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.922. Internal consistency of the K-SAQ was found to be very good (α = 0.883). Convergent validity testing demonstrated a moderate correlation between the K-SAQ and K-SRS-22 (r = -451). The correlation between the K-SAQ and major curve magnitude was significant (r = 0.812). Discriminant validity was confirmed by significant differences in K-SAQ scores and individual K-SAQ domain scores among patients requiring observation, bracing, or surgery.
