31. Estimation of soot oxidation rate in DPF under carbon and non-carbon based particulate matter accumulated condition

Abstract

By high particulate matter(PM) reduction performance, diesel particulate filter(DPF) is applied to almost all of modern HSDI diesel engine. PM emitted from diesel engine is consist of carbon based and non-carbon based material. Representative carbon based PM is soot. Non-carbon based PM is produced by wear of engine and exhaust component, combustion of lubrication oil and sulphur in fuel. Accumulation of non-carbon based PM affects pressure difference of DPF and thus accuracy of soot mass estimation in DPF can be lowered during normal and regeneration condition when the pressure difference caused by non-carbon based PM is not recognized correctly. Also unevenly accumulated PM inside of DPF can produce locally different exhaust gas temperature and thus it can lower accuracy of soot mass estimation during regeneration. This study focuses on estimation of soot oxidation rate not by conventional pressure difference but by exhaust gas analysis at up and downstream of DPF. Results, strong correlations between CO2 -fuel mass ratio and soot oxidation was observed.

32. Work and speed based engine operation condition analysis for new European driving cycle (NEDC)

Abstract

In order to evaluate fuel consumption and the tailpipe emissions of a vehicle, standard driving cycles are used to prescribe vehicle driving conditions such as speed, gear shifts, fluid temperature etc. The new European Driving Cycle (NEDC) has been widely used as a driving cycle for emissions and fuel consumption while the Federal Test Procedure 75 (FTP-75) mode is used in the United States. In South Korea, the NEDC is applied for emission certification and the FTP-75 mode is used for the fuel consumption of a vehicle powered by a diesel engine. Because these driving cycles contain a mix of static phase (cruising and idle) and transient phase (acceleration and deceleration), they need to be translted to static engine operation conditions so that optimization is possible using an engine dynamometer for each representative engine operation condition. This study set up two models to convert vehicle driving conditions to engine operation conditions based on the work which the engine should produce to follow the driving cycle, and based on the representative vehicle speeds of the NEDC. The accuracy of each model was compared with actual vehicle test results on a chassis dynamometer, and the characteristics of each model were analyzed.

33. Formation of Stoichiometric SrRuO3Electrodes for PZT Capacitors by Pulsed-MOCVD

Abstract

SrRuO3films were deposited at 300–500°Con Pb(Zr0.4,Ti0.6)O3-covered Ir∕SiO2∕Sisubstrates by metallorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). Through the pulsed introduction of a source gas mixture (pulsed-MOCVD), the Ru∕(Ru+Sr)ratio became unity above 350°Cdue to a similar deposition rate for SrO and RuOxcomponents in the film. It became unity at 450°Cin spite of the increased input-gas flow rate of the Ru source under the fixed Sr source and we obtained films consisting of crystalline stoichiometric SrRuO3. This demonstrated that good crystalline stoichiometric SrRuO3film was reproducible by pulsed-MOCVD. Excellent fatigue properties and ferroelectricity were obtained from the SRO/PZT/Ir capacitor.

Abstract

Abstract: What effect Zr and Ti source materials had on the conformality of film thickness and composition inside trench substrates was investigated for MOCVD-Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 thin films deposited by three kinds of source systems. The dependence of the deposition rate on temperature could almost be divided into two deposition–temperature regions and their boundary temperatures depended on the source systems used. The conformality of film thickness and composition also depended on the source systems, which indicated how important the selection of the source materials system was. We found that a source system of Pb(C11H19O2)2–Zr(O(CH3)2CH2CH2OCH3)4–Ti(OC(CH3)2CH2OCH3)4–O2 was the most suited to obtain uniform film thickness and composition over a wide range of deposition temperatures. Abstract

PbZr(x)Ti(1-x)O3 (PZT) thin films were deposited on 3-dimensional (3D) nano-scale trench structures for use in giga-bit density ferroelectric random access memories. PZT thin films were deposited by liquid delivery metalorganic chemical vapor deposition using Pb(thd)2, Zr(MMP)4, and Ti(MMP)4 precursors dissolved in ethyl cyclohexane. Iridium thin films were deposited by atomic layer deposition, and they exhibited excellent properties for capacitor electrodes even at a thickness of 20 nm. The trench capacitor was composed of three layers, viz. Ir/PZT/lr (20/60/20 nm), and had a diameter of 250 nm and a height of 400 nm. Almost 100% step coverage was obtained at a deposition temperature of 530 degrees C. The PZT thin film capacitors with a thickness of 60 nm on a planar structure exhibited a remnant polarization (Pr) of 28 microC/cm2, but the Pr value of the 3D PZT capacitors decreased slightly with decreasing 3D trench pattern size. The transmission electron microscope analysis indicated that the PZT thin films had compositional uniformity in the 3D trench region. Both columnar and granular grains were formed on the sidewalls of the trench capacitors, and their relative proportion exhibited strong size dependence. The trench capacitors with more columnar PZT grains showed good switching behavior under an external bias of 2.1 V and had a remnant polarization of 19-24 microC/cm2.
