Conductive graphitized grooves on the dielectric surface of diamond have been created by KrF excimer laser radiation. The advantages of such a circuit board in high-field applications is rather limited because the crystal surface has a relatively low electrical breakdown threshold. To increase the electrical strength, a method of encapsulating surface conductive graphitized structures by chemical vapor deposition of an epitaxial diamond layer has been proposed and realized. The quality of the growth diamond is proved by Raman spectroscopy. A comparative study of the electrical resistivity of graphitized wires and the breakdown fields between them before and after diamond growth was carried out. The novel design of a terahertz large aperture photoconductive antenna (LAPCA) is reported. It features a longitudinal orientation of the bias electric field within the photoconductive substrate, and has the advantage of a small interelectrode gap, resulting in a higher field for the same applied voltage. The proposed LAPCA configuration has been tested with a nitrogen-doped (∼10 ppm) synthetic monocrystalline diamond, which is a promising material for high-intensity and high-power terahertz sources. Two antennas with different high-voltage electrode realizations were assembled, pumped by a 400 nm femtosecond laser, and tested for THz emitter function. The experimental data are found to be in good correlation with the numerical simulation results. Conformal multilayer micro-nanocrystalline diamond coatings were grown on substrates of a hard alloy with 9% Co with a high aspect number in microwave plasma from gas mixtures CH4/H2 and CH4/H2/N2. The substrates were of a cylindrical axial tool model with a size ratio: d = 12 mm to l = 75 mm. An original tool holder made of molybdenum, in the form of a sector of the excessive ring with the axis of the hole parallel to the central conductive platform, protects part of the substrate from heating due to the edge effect of plasma. The uniformity of heating of the growth part, which is located inside the excessive ring, is calculated using mathematical modeling and is provided by rotation at a speed of at least 12 rpm, which ensures the uniformity of the coating. The propagation of graphitization wave through the diamond bulk under multipulse laser irradiation is a largely self-guided process. This fact assists the production of graphitized wires oriented along a laser beam and greatly complicates formation of the structures oriented differently. Here, we develop new approaches to control laser graphitization that should empower the potential of 3D laser microstructuring inside a diamond crystal. Two techniques are investigated: (i) a laser seed damage of crystal with subsequent exposure at a lower laser fluence, thus restricting the propagation of the graphitization wave toward the beam and (ii) formation of a dominant microfracture perpendicular to the laser beam, thus guiding growth of the graphitized thread. An investigation of the physical mechanisms underlying the formation of vapor bubbles at a submerged fiber tip during pulsed Ho:YAG laser radiation revealed three different bubble formation processes, depending on the laser irradiance. These are bubble formation by heating, by rarefraction or cavitation and by a combination of these two processes. A bipolar acoustic pressure transient is also generated by each subablative laser spike of a free-running Ho:YAG laser pulse delivered through a submerged fiber.

The use of a free-running erbium laser for channel propagation in water and gelatin was evaluated using a model. The model assumed that liquid water as well as soft tissues with high water content showed displacement of cld material under the action of pressure below the zone of absorption. It was predicted that gelatin would have a higher propagation velocity because of the its elastic material characteristics.

The possibility of laser printing of luminescent diamond nanoparticles via a blister‐based laser‐induced forward transfer technique is demonstrated. For this purpose, a donor substrate consisting of a transparent sapphire wafer and an absorbing thin titanium film (250 and 550 nm thick) coated with nanoparticles is exposed to the radiation of an ArF excimer laser (λ = 193 nm, τ = 20 ns). Under the optimized thickness of titanium layer and laser fluence, the ejection of nanoparticles from the donor substrate is caused by the blistering of the metal film without its rupture. The luminescence mapping of the donor and acceptor substrates has proved the transfer of luminescent diamond nanoparticles with the same intensity of the signal. Doping of carbon nanoparticles with impurity atoms is central to their application. However, doping has proven elusive for very small carbon nanoparticles because of their limited availability and a lack of fundamental understanding of impurity stability in such nanostructures. Here, we show that isolated diamond nanoparticles as small as 1.6 nm, comprising only ∼400 carbon atoms, are capable of housing stable photoluminescent colour centres, namely the silicon vacancy (SiV). Surprisingly, fluorescence from SiVs is stable over time, and few or only single colour centres are found per nanocrystal. We also observe size-dependent SiV emission supported by quantum-chemical simulation of SiV energy levels in small nanodiamonds. Our work opens the way to investigating the physics and chemistry of molecular-sized cubic carbon clusters and promises the application of ultrasmall non-perturbative fluorescent nanoparticles as markers in microscopy and sensing. The efficiency of the generation of terahertz radiation from nitrogen-doped (∼ 0.1 –100 ppm) diamonds was investigated. The synthetic polycrystalline and monocrystalline diamond substrates were pumped by a 400 nm femtosecond laser and tested for the photoconductive emitter operation. The dependency of the emitted THz power on the intensity of the optical excitation was measured. The nitrogen concentrations of the diamonds involved were measured from the optical absorbance, which was found to crucially depend on the synthesis technique. The observed correlation between the doping level and the level of the performance of diamond-based antennas demonstrates the prospects of doped diamond as a material for highly efficient large-aperture photoconductive antennas. The sheltered transfer and immobilization of rabbit anti-human antiserum immunoglobulin G (IgG) by matrix-assisted pulsed laser evaporation (MAPLE) are reported. The iced targets submitted to laser irradiation consisted of 0.2-2 mg/mL IgG blended or not with lipid ( L-α-phosphatidylcholine dipalmitoyl) dissolved in distilled water-based saline buffer. Thin IgG coatings were obtained at room temperature onto glass, fused silica, or silicon substrates. Ten thousand subsequent laser pulses of 0.33, 0.5, or 0.67 J/cm2 fluence were applied for the synthesis of each sample. Morphology and composition of the thin films were studied by optical, scanning, and atomic force microscopy and Fourier transformed infrared spectrometry. Optical labeling methods such as spectrofluorimetry and fluorescence microscopy were selected to verify the biosensor transduction principle because of their high sensitivity for detecting low amounts of antigen (IgG). Protein immobilization to the substrate surface was demonstrated for all obtained structures after immersion in the donkey anti-rabbit secondary antibody solution.
