Sepsis is a severe reaction of the body to an infection, presenting a critical medical crisis. It represents an imbalance between the body’s anti- and pro-inflammatory reactions. The occurrence of sepsis, which leads to multiple-organ failure and increased mortality, is marked by dysfunction in the lungs, heart, kidneys, and liver. The involvement of reactive oxygen species is believed to contribute to the progression of sepsis. Data suggest potential advantages of phenolic compounds derived from plants in combating sepsis. Plant polyphenols can be antioxidants by scavenging free radicals, chelating metals, and binding to proteins. In this research, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were produced by the aqueous extract of Cichorium intybus leaf for the purpose of treating sepsis-induced DNA harm. The recent study focused on the biological aspect including the cytotoxicity properties on normal (HUVEC) cell line. The AgNPs were analyzed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, and UV-Vis. The TEM and SEM images of AgNPs exhibited the average size of 35.29 nm with spherical morphology. In the in vivo study, the animals were categorized into four groups: sepsis-induced, sham, AgNPs-20, and AgNPs-100. AgNPs treatment resulted in a significant decrease in tissues damage (p < 0.01). The sepsis-induced group showed a significantly elevated malondialdehyde (MDA) level in comparison to the sham group (p < 0.01). Nevertheless, the groups that received AgNPs experienced a decrease in MDA levels and an increase in glutathione and superoxide dismutases levels (p < 0.01). Additionally, the rats treated with AgNPs exhibited a reduction in the IL-1β mRNA expression levels (p < 0.01).

Objective To compare the disinfection effect of three different disinfectants for oral dental chair water lines (DUWLs). Methods Selection of seven independent water source integrated treatment tables in the Stomatology Department of Beijing No. 2 Hospital before opening of the clinic in 2019, divided into 4 groups (3 experimental + 1 control). The experimental group used 500mg/L chlorine-containing disinfectant respectively (2 integrated treatment chairs in group A)、3% hydrogen peroxide (Group B, 2 comprehensive treatment chairs)、60 g/L silver ion peroxide disinfectant (2 comprehensive treatment chairs in group C) and purified municipal water purified water (1 comprehensive treatment chair in control group D). The DUWLs were disinfected by three different disinfectants, and then water samples from each group of triple lances and high-speed hand pieces were collected for bacterial cultures. To compare the total number of bacterial colonies in each group of DUWLs before disinfection and immediately, 1d, 3d, and 7d after disinfection. Results The bacterial colony counts of pre-disinfection DUWLs had exceeded the standard ( all＞4500 cfu/mL). The total number of bacterial colonies of the three disinfectants immediately after disinfection and 1 day after disinfection decreased remarkably, and were lower than that of the pre-disinfection and control group. Three days after disinfection, except for experimental group C, the total number of bacterial colonies in experimental groups A and B exceeded the standard for oral healthcare water as stipulated in the Beijing "Technical specification for the disinfection of water circuits in comprehensive oral treatment tables (DB11_T 1703-2019)". The total number of bacterial colonies in groups A, B and C were close to or exceeded the pre-disinfection level 7 days after disinfection. Conclusion Short duration of time to maintain the effect of 500 ml/L chlorine disinfectant and 3% hydrogen peroxide disinfectant on waterway disinfection. Long-term use causes irreparable damage to the inner wall of the pipeline. Silver ionic disinfectant with 60 g/L hydrogen peroxide was optimal in controlling the total number of bacterial colonies and inhibiting bacterial growth time in oral dental chair water lines (DUWLs). (目的 比较3种不同消毒剂对口腔综合治疗台水路(DUWLs)的消毒效果。方法 选取本院2019年装修后待开诊前7台采用独立水源的综合治疗台, 分为4组(3组实验组+1组对照组), 实验组分别采用500 mg/L含氯消毒剂(A组2台综合治疗椅)、3%过氧化氢(B组2台综合治疗椅)、60 g/L过氧化氢银离子消毒剂(C组2台综合治疗椅)和净化后市政用水纯水(D组对照组1台综合治疗椅), 通过3种不同的消毒剂对DUWLs进行消毒, 然后收集各组三用枪和高速手机水样进行细菌培养, 比较各组DUWLs消毒前及消毒后即刻、1d、3d、7d细菌菌落总数。结果 消毒前DUWLs各组细菌菌落总数均严重超标(均＞4500 cfu/mL)。3种消毒剂消毒后即刻和消毒后1 d细菌菌落总数明显下降, 低于消毒前及对照组。消毒后3 d, 除实验C组外, 实验A、B两组细菌菌落总数均超过北京市《口腔综合治疗台水路消毒技术规范(DB11/T 1703-2019)》规定的口腔医疗卫生用水标准。消毒后7 d, A、B、C三组细菌菌落总数均接近或超过消毒前水平。结论 500 mg/L含氯消毒剂和3%过氧化氢消毒剂对水路消毒效果维持时间短, 长期使用对管路内壁造成不可修复的危害。60g/L过氧化氢银离子消毒剂在控制口腔牙椅水路(DUWLs)细菌落数总数和抑制细菌生长时间方面效果最优。)

Sepsis is a common and deadly syndrome that despite all the progress in its control, the death rate caused by it is high. Sepsis is a serious problem that needs immediate attention and treatment. This infection, especially if it is caused by bacteria resistant to several drugs, causes high mortality. About two-thirds of sepsis cases occur in hospitalized patients. Several factors such as increasing the age of the population, increasing the duration of chronic diseases, high consumption of antibiotics and corticosteroids, use of mechanical devices and intravascular devices play a role in increasing its incidence. We herein demonstrate the biogenic procedure for the in situ immobilizing gold nanoparticles over lignin (Lig)-modified Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles mediated by Cydonia leaf extract (Fe3O4@Lig-Ag NPs) and its catalytic activity on the acetylation of alcohols using acetic anhydride and subsequent biological performances. The successful synthesis of Fe3O4@Lig-Ag NPs was assessed using an array of advanced techniques like field emission scanning electron microscopy, fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy EDX, elemental mapping, vibrating-sample magnetometer, and X-ray diffraction. Cecal ligation and puncture was used for inducing the sepsis model in rats. Several doses of Fe3O4@Lig-Ag NPs (45, 15, and 5 µg/kg) on oxidant–antioxidant, inflammatory mediators mRNA such as IL-1 and TNF-α, and its effects on the levels of expression were assessed in the kidney, liver, duodenum, lung, and stomach. When septic rats kidney, liver, duodenum, lung, and stomach were compared with those of the control group, it was found that Fe3O4@Lig-Ag NPs dose-dependent administration raised glutathione levels and superoxide dismutase activity and significantly reduced the levels of malondialdehyde. The Fe3O4@Lig-Ag NPs (45 µg/kg) indicated greater anti-oxidative effects than the 5 and 15 µg/kg doses for all the assessed parameters. In addition, the expression of TNF-α mRNA in the CLP + 45 µg/kg group was decreased in comparison with the control group. Fe3O4@Lig-Ag NPs reduced oxidative stress by enhancing the free radicals scavenging effects and supporting endogenous antioxidants. The Fe3O4@Lig-Ag NPs potent antioxidant property may be related to the cytokine cascade suppression during sepsis. The above findings offer that Fe3O4@Lig-Ag NPs administration may indicate a modern treatment for the inhibition of liver, kidney, lung, duodenum, and stomach tissues damage caused by septic conditions.

Abstract A new type of polyhalite potassium ore (NTPPO) was found in the Lower Triassic Jialingjiang Formation, NE Sichuan Basin, SW China. It is water soluble, therefore can be exploited using the water-solution method, and is of great potential of economic value and research significance. Based on cores, thin sections, energy spectrum and SEM analyses, its microfeatures, macrofeatures and origin are discussed, and a genetic model is established to provide a scientific basis for future evaluation, prediction and exploration of potassium ore in the Sichuan Basin. It is proposed that the NTPPO was caused by storm activities: (1) the storm broke the original sedimentary polyhalite–gypsum beds, whose fragments were transported into the salt basin with high content of K+ and Mg2+; (2) in the basin, the polyhalite continued to be formed from gypsum by metasomatism with K- and Mg-rich brine; (3) during diagenesis, under high temperature and high pressure, K–Mg-rich brine from halite continued to replace anhydrite (or gypsum) to form polyhalite.

Objective: To compare and rank the clinical effects of different acupuncture and related therapies on hyperlipidemia patients. Methods: We used network meta-analysis (NMA) to evaluate direct and indirect effects in studies of acupuncture and related therapies for hyperlipidemia. Databases PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, the China Biology Medicine (CBM), the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Data and the Chinese Scientific Journal Database (VIP) were searched to collect randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of acupuncture and related therapies in the treatment of hyperlipidemia. The data were analyzed using Stata 15.0 and WinBUGS 1.4.3 software after two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted the data, and assessed the risk of bias in the included studies. Results: We analyzed a total of 36 eligible studies that included 3 124 patients, involving 12 types of acupuncture and related therapies and comprehensive therapies. The results of the NMA showed that: for the total cholesterol (TC), acupoint catgut embedding (ACE), simple acupuncture (ACU), acupoint injection (AI), electroacupuncture (EA), western medicine of statins (WM), and combination of acupuncture and related therapies (combined therapies) were all more effective than placebo (P < 0.05). For triacylglycerol (TG), ACU, EA, warming acupunc-ture (WA), WM and combined therapies were better than placebo (P < 0.05), while WA was better than Chinese herb (CH) (P < 0.05). For low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), combined therapies were more effective than lifestyle modification (LM) (P < 0.05). For high-density lipoprotein choles-terol (HDL-C), auricular acupoint stimulation (AAS), ACE, ACU, AI, CH, EA, LM, moxibustion (MOX), WM, combined therapies and placebo were all worse than WA (P < 0.05), while WM and combined therapies were better than ACU (P < 0.05). Combined ranking results suggest that ACU and combined therapies may be the optimal intervention. Conclusions: The efficacy of all kinds of acupuncture-related therapies in patients with hyperlipidemia is better than lifestyle changes. However, for different outcome indicators, all kinds of acupuncture-related therapies have their advantages and disadvantages, and comprehensive ranking results suggest that ACU and combined therapies may be the optimal intervention.

Preclinical and clinical studies have shown that prior receipt of radiotherapy enhances antitumor immune responses, a phenomenon we call the “radio-memory effect.” However, all of the evidence regarding this effect to date comes from work with PD1/PDL1 inhibitors. Here we explored whether this effect also occurs with other forms of immune therapy, specifically interleukin-2 (IL-2). We retrospectively assessed outcomes in patients with malignant pleural effusion (MPE) who had previously received radiotherapy for non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) within 18 months before the intrapleural infusion of IL-2 or cisplatin. Radiotherapy sites included lungs, thoracic lymph nodes, and intracranial. All patients received intrapleural infusion of IL-2 or cisplatin, and most had had several cycles of standard chemotherapy for NSCLC. We identified 3,747 patients with MPE (median age 64 years [range 29–88)) treated at one of several institutions from August 2009 through February 2015; 642 patients had been treated with IL-2 and 1102 with cisplatin and had survived for at least 6 months afterward. Among those who received IL-2, 288 had no radiotherapy, 324 had extracranial (i.e., thoracic) radiotherapy, and 36 had intracranial radiotherapy. The median follow-up time for surviving patients was 38 months. Patients who had received extracranial radiotherapy followed by IL-2 had significantly longer PFS than patients who had not received extracranial radiotherapy (i.e., either no radiotherapy or intracranial radiotherapy). Patients who had received intracranial or extracranial radiotherapy followed by IL-2 had significantly longer OS than did other patients. No survival advantage was noted for prior radiotherapy among patients who received intrapleural cisplatin. We speculate that previous radiotherapy could enhance the efficacy of subsequent intrapleural infusion of IL-2, a “radio-memory” effect that could be beneficial in future studies.

Abstract A novel kind of organic–inorganic monomer SUASi has been achieved by modifying 5-sulfosalicylic acid (SUA) with 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APS), subsequently binary and ternary Eu3+ mesoporous hybrid materials with 5-sulfosalicylic acid (SUA)-functionalized SBA-15 and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) are synthesized by co-condensation of SUASi and TEOS in the presence of Eu3+ complex and Pluronic P123 as a template. Finally, luminescent hybrid mesoporous materials consisting of active rare earth ions (Eu3+)—inert rare earth ions (Y3+, La3+, Gd3+) complex covalently bonded to the mesoporous materials network have been obtained via this sol–gel approach. The physical characterization and photoluminescence of all these resulting materials are studied in detail. Especially the luminescent behavior has been studied with the different ratios of Eu3+–(Y3+, La3+, Gd3+), which suggests that the existence of inert rare earth ions can enhance the luminescence intensity of Eu3+. This may be due to the intramolecular energy transfer between Y3+, La3+, Gd3+, and Eu3+ through the covalently bonded mesoporous framework.
