37. Discovery of Intrinsic Quantum Anomalous Hall Effect in Organic Mn-DCA Lattice

Abstract

The quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) phase is a novel topological state of matter characterized by a nonzero quantized Hall conductivity without an external magnetic field. The realizations of QAH effect, however, are experimentally challengeable. Based on ab initio calculations, here we propose an intrinsic QAH phase in DCA Kagome lattice. The nontrivial topology in Kagome bands are confirmed by the nonzero chern number, quantized Hall conductivity, and gapless chiral edge states of Mn-DCA lattice. A tight-binding (TB) model is further constructed to clarify the origin of QAH effect. Furthermore, its Curie temperature, estimated to be ~ 253 K using Monte-Carlo simulation, is comparable with room temperature and higher than most of two-dimensional ferromagnetic thin films. Abstract

The phenomenon of coal spontaneous combustion poses a serious threat to mine safety, and monitoring and warning of coal spontaneous combustion has become an important issue that needs to be urgently addressed in coal mines. The current monitoring and early warning methods for coal spontaneous combustion have their limitations, and a single indicator cannot accurately mark the degree of coal spontaneous combustion danger inside the goaf. Therefore, this article proposes a new method for monitoring coal spontaneous combustion through infrasound waves. Infrasound waves have advantages such as low attenuation and long transmission distance. However, current research on monitoring and warning coal spontaneous combustion in goaf through infrasound waves is not yet complete, and there is a lack of research on the characteristics of infrasound signal changes during coal spontaneous combustion. Based on this, the article first tested the characteristic temperature and release changes of indicator gases (CO, C2H4) through thermogravimetric experiments and coal oxidation and heating experiments. Then, the generation and variation of infrasonic signals during coal spontaneous combustion (CSC) was studied and analyzed using a self-designed CSC infrasonic testing system. The results showed that obvious infrasound signals could be generated during the CSC process, there is a good mapping relationship between signals and temperature. Furthermore, the analysis revealed the inherent relationship between the infrasonic signal, temperature, and indicator gas of coal at different oxidation stages. The research in this article has promoted the use of infrasound waves for temperature inversion and promoted the development of multi-parameter analysis and early warning of CSC, which is of great significance for the field of CSC monitoring. 48. Renewable, All-Natural Flute Membrane with Excellent Mechanical Properties for Osmotic Energy Harvesting

Abstract

Ion-selective membranes serve as key materials for reverse electrodialysis (RED) technology in osmotic energy harvesting, and the search for a class of membranes that are economical, highly robust, and sustainable has been a relentless goal for researchers. In this work, all-natural biomass membranes (reed membranes) are often used as a flute diaphragm, which makes the flute produce a brighter and crisper sound, presenting high strength and elasticity. Ultrathin natural reed membranes (thickness of ≈4.06 μm) were selected as representative materials due to their impressive mechanical properties with a top-level combination of yield strength (≈63.5 MPa) and strain (∼2%) among all reported natural materials. More importantly, there are numerous nanoscale pores and negatively charged −OH groups on the reed surface, providing tiny nanofluidic channels for efficient cation transmembrane transport, which endow the flute membrane with excellent selectivity for caution and stable salinity-gradient energy conversion performance. The reed membrane delivers excellent osmotic energy conversion performance with a power output density of 22.2 W m–2in 500-fold NaCl concentration as well as high stability (power density maintained at 98.53% for more than 6000 s). This work provides a strategy for all-natural ion-selective membranes in terms of economy, fabrication simplicity, and stability, which has potential utility in various applications such as osmotic energy harvesting.
