The irrational land use patterns in the Yellow River Delta (YRD) have resulted in an imbalance in ecological stoichiometry, leading to secondary salinization and soil degradation. However, there is limited knowledge about the long-term response of soil and enzyme stoichiometry to land use. This hampers our ability to optimize land use in the YRD to alleviate nutrient limitation and thus promote ecological stoichiometric balance. We investigated the stoichiometry of soil and enzyme carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and phosphorus (P) in three land use patterns (Alfalfa artificial grassland, AG; wheat–maize rotation field, WM; native grassland, PC) established for 19 years in the YRD. The results showed that the soil stoichiometry of the three land uses in the YRD was lower than the world and Chinese averages, indicating lower C and N levels. Nutrient limitations of soil microorganisms were C and P due to an enzyme C:N ratio greater than 1:1 and vector angle greater than 45°. The three land use patterns have different advantages in alleviating nutrient limitations in the YRD. AG promotes soil macroaggregate formation, reduces soil salt content, improves nutrient availability, and mitigates N limitation. This makes AG more conducive to improving the poor soil structure, high soil salinity, and stoichiometric imbalance in the YRD to mitigate local soil degradation and be suitable for long-term continuous cultivation. WM is beneficial for increasing soil total C content due to straw return. However, WM does not reduce soil salinity. WM is more suitable for intercropping or crop rotation to improve soil C content in the YRD. Although PC can alleviate soil microbial C limitation due to its significantly lower vector length than AG and WM, the low nutrient levels hindered its ability to alleviate local soil nutrient limitation. The ecological impact of nitrogen (N) deposition has gained significance since the advent of the industrial revolution. Although numerous studies have examined the impact of N deposition on soil organic carbon (SOC), certain arid and barren rocky mountainous regions, which experience more pronounced N limitations, have been overlooked. This study was conducted in the Yimeng Mountains, examining eight treatments created by four N addition levels (0 kg N ha−1 yr−1, 50 kg N ha−1 yr−1, 100 kg N ha−1 yr−1 and 200 kg N ha−1 yr−1) and two tree species (Quercus acutissima Carruth. and Pinus thunbergii Parl.). The research revealed variations in the effect of N addition on leaf litter decomposition and SOC density (SOCD) between different tree species. Notably, N addition stimulated the decomposition of leaf litter from Quercus acutissima Carruth. However, the decomposition of Pinus thunbergii Parl. leaf litter was enhanced at N addition levels below 100 kg N ha−1 yr−1, while it was hindered at levels exceeding 100 kg N ha−1 yr−1. In the Quercus acutissima Carruth. forest, the N addition levels of 50 kg N ha−1 yr−1, 100 kg N ha−1 yr−1 and 200 kg N ha−1 yr−1 resulted in decreases in SOCD by 10.57%, 22.22% and 13.66%, respectively, compared to 0 kg N ha−1 yr−1. In the Pinus thunbergii Parl. forest, the N addition levels of 50 kg N ha−1 yr−1, 100 kg N hm−2 ha−1 and 200 kg N ha−1 yr−1 led to increases in SOCD by 49.53%, 43.36% and 60.87%, respectively, compared to 0 kg N ha−1 yr−1. Overall, N addition decreases the SOCD of Quercus acutissima Carruth., but it increases the SOCD of Pinus thunbergii Parl., attributed to the alteration in soil enzyme stoichiometry and nutrient cycling by N addition. A method was developed to pattern the surface of perfluorinated materials with graphene oxide thin film, and various biological applications of the patterned perfluorinated surface were illustrated. Perfluorinated surfaces such as Teflon, Cytop, and other perfluorinated materials are known to be both hydrophobic and oleophobic, with low adhesion for most materials. Modifying the perfluorinated surfaces has been difficult due to the extraordinary chemical inertness, which limits the applications of perfluorinated materials as anti-fouling substrates. Herein we successfully patterned Cytop surfaces with graphene oxide. Patterns of the graphene oxide thin film with feature dimension down to 40 microns were formed and remained stable on the Cytop surface against washing with water, ethanol and acetone. The graphene oxide thin film on the Cytop surface allowed non-specific protein adsorption. To illustrate the applications of the patterned Cytop surface, we used the patterned Cytop surface as the substrate to study the protein-protein interactions, stem cell culture, and stem cell proliferation., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest.
