Magnetotransport constitutes a useful probe to understand the interplay between electronic band topology and magnetism in spintronics devices based on topological materials. A recent theory of Lu and Shen [Phys. Rev. Lett. 112, 146601 (2014)] on magnetically doped topological insulators predicts that quantum corrections $\Delta\kappa$ to the temperature-dependence of the conductivity can change sign during the Curie transition. This phenomenon has been attributed to a suppression of the Berry phase of the topological surface states at the Fermi level, caused by a magnetic energy gap. Here, we demonstrate experimentally that $\Delta\kappa$ can reverse its sign even when the Berry phase at the Fermi level remains unchanged, provided that the inelastic scattering length decreases with temperature below the Curie transition.

We present a detailed study of the phase diagram of copper intercalated TiSe$_2$ single crystals, combining local Hall-probe magnetometry, tunnel diode oscillator technique (TDO), specific-heat, and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements. A series of the Cu$_x$TiSe$_2$ samples from three different sources with various copper content $x$ and superconducting critical temperatures $T_c$ have been investigated. We first show that the vortex penetration mechanism is dominated by geometrical barriers enabling a precise determination of the lower critical field, $H_{c1}$. We then show that the temperature dependence of the superfluid density deduced from magnetic measurements (both $H_{c1}$ and TDO techniques) clearly suggests the existence of a small energy gap in the system, with a coupling strength $2\Delta_s \sim [2.4-2.8]k_BT_c$, regardless of the copper content, in puzzling contradiction with specific heat measurements which can be well described by one single large gap $2\Delta_l \sim [3.7-3.9]k_BT_c$. Finally, our measurements reveal a non-trivial doping dependence of the condensation energy, which remains to be understood., Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures

In contact with a superconductor, a normal metal modifies its properties due to Andreev reflection. In the current work, the local density of states (LDOS) of superconductor - normal metal Mo$_{78}$Ge$_{22}$ - Au bilayers are studied by means of STM applied from the Au side. Three bilayers have been prepared on silicate glass substrate consisting of 100, 10 and 5 nm MoGe thin films covered always by 5 nm Au layer. The tunneling spectra were measured at temperatures from 0.5 K to 7 K. The two-dimensional cross-correlation between topography and normalized zero-bias conductance (ZBC) indicates a proximity effect between 100 and 10 nm MoGe thin films and Au layer where a superconducting gap slightly smaller than that of bulk MoGe is observed. The effect of the thinnest 5 nm MoGe layer on Au leads to much smaller gap moreover the LDOS reveals almost completely suppressed coherence peaks. This is attributed to a strong pair-breaking effect of spin-flip processes at the interface between MoGe films and the substrate., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

In the current paper, electrical transport properties of 25 nm thick Nb films sputtered on the photosensitive semiconductor BiOCl were investigated in the temperature range 7.5 K $\leq T \leq$ 8.5 K. The influence of green (532 nm) and red (640 nm) laser excitations on resistive superconducting transitions of the niobium thin films on a silicon glass and BiOCl single crystal substrates were studied. The temperature dependences of the resistivity for Nb are in good agreement with the McMillan model which indicates the strong influence of the inverse proximity effect induced by the interface. The increased influence of the BiOCl/Nb interface under laser excitation corresponds to the raising the ratio of the density of normal to superconductivity carriers in the $T\rightarrow 0$ limit and this observation is in agreement with the photoconductivity study of BiOCl single crystals., Comment: 3 pages, 3 figures, 16th Czech and Slovak Conference on Magnetism. We studied dynamics of Au (001) surface in situ in 0.1 M HClO4 electrolyte solution using both coherent x-ray scattering and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). The surface of Au (001) is known to reconstruct at cathodic potentials; the reconstruction lifts at anodic potentials. In our in-situ STM experiments, the measurements focus on time-dependent progressions of surface morphology during slow potential sweep. In our in-situ coherent x-ray scattering measurements, we demonstrate that the equilibrium surface dynamics are directly measurable and the measured dynamics are consistent with morphological evolution of the STM images. These experiments represent the first successful application of coherent x-ray scattering to the study of electrochemical interfaces in situ., Comment: 21 pages, 7 figures. We have performed coherent x-ray scattering experiments on the hexagonally reconstructed Pt (001) surface to study the temperature-dependent surface dynamics. By correlating speckle patterns collected at the (001) anti-Bragg position we are able to measure surface dynamics when the averaged incoherent x-ray scattering appears static. In the temperature range above the rotational epitaxy transition and below the roughening transition (1750 K - 1830 K), we have observed well-defined oscillatory autocorrelations of speckles that persist for tens of minutes, in addition to the expected thermal decorrelation. The observed oscillations indicate surface dynamics due to "step-flow" motion. This is shown with a simple model in which the phase of the scattered x-rays from the steps within the illumination area is retained in the coherent x-ray scattering. This demonstrates a possibility that x-ray speckles can be used to monitor the real-space real-time evolution of surfaces in addition to the traditional decorrelation measurements., Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures

We present coherent speckled x-ray diffraction patterns obtained from a monolayer of surface atoms. We measured both the specular anti-Bragg reflection and the off-specular hexagonal reconstruction peak for the Au (0 0 1) surface reconstruction. We observed fluctuations of the speckle patterns even when the integrated intensity appears static. By auto-correlating the speckle patterns, we were able to identify two qualitatively different surface dynamic behaviors of the hex reconstruction depending on the sample temperature., Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures. We report CO-induced lifting of the hexagonal surface reconstruction on Au (001). Using in-situ surface x-ray scattering, we determined a pressure-temperature phase diagram for the reconstruction and measured the dynamical evolution of the surface structure in real time. Our observations provide evidence that, under certain conditions, even macroscopic Au surfaces, much larger than catalytic Au nanoparticles [M. Haruta, Catal. Today 36, 153 (1997)], can exhibit some of the reactive properties and surface transitions observed in systems known to be catalytically active such as Pt (001)., Comment: 4 Figures.
