The aim of our research was to study the relationships between performance variables in a support backward swing (SBS), which was used as a progressive step in the learning procedure for a 1 1/4 straddle-piked front somersault and the swing prior to a 1 1/4 straddle-piked front somersault from support to bent arm support on the parallel bars (5/4S). Mitja Petkovsek, parallel bars gold medallist at the 2000 EC in Bremen, performed these elements. Kinematic analysis involved CMAS software (Praha, 1993), and the Suskana body segment model that has 17 points and 15 segments. Kinetic variables were estimated using 2D IMGIM software, which has 8 points and 6 segments (Colja and Cuk, 1994). The results indicated that some kinematic aspects of the two types of swings were similar but there were important differences in kinetic aspects of the motion. During the swing for the 5/4S, force and torque were higher than in the SBS.

Background: Pemphigus refers to a group of autoimmune blistering diseases of the skin. Of the two major types of pemphigus, pemphigus vulgaris and pemphigus foliaceus, only pemphigus vulgaris has been known to affect newborn infants via passive transfer of maternal IgG antibodies across the placenta. Although pemphigus foliaceus antibodies have also been shown to cross the placenta, never before has a newborn been clinically affected. We report the first of neonatal pemphigus foliaceus confirmed by both clinical presentation and immunofluorescence studies., Observations: The distinguishing factors in this case were high antibody titers by indirect immunofluorescence present in both the mother and her fetus (1:640 and 1:80, respectively)., Conclusions: A threshold of fetal antibody titer ( > 1:40) may need to be surpassed before neonatal disease can occur in pemphigus foliaceus. The likelihood of reaching this threshold has been shown to be increased with higher maternal antibody titers. Thus, strict control of maternal pemphigus foliaceus should lower the incidence of placental antibody transfer and improve neonatal outcome.

Crusted (Norwegian) scabies, a rare variant of ordinary scabies, is a highly contagious infection in which the skin is infested with thousands to millions of mites. The infection is frequently overlooked because of its atypical presentations. Patients with cognitive deficiency or an immunodeficiency disorder (including immunosuppressive therapy) are predisposed to developing crusted scabies. The infection often presents as generalized dermatitis with crusted hyperkeratosis on the palms and soles. Diagnosis is made by examining skin scrapings from the crusted lesions. Lindane is the scabicide most widely used in the treatment of crusted scabies. Eradication frequently requires repeated applications, and care must be taken to avoid lindane toxicity. Permethrin cream is as efficacious as lindane in the treatment of ordinary scabies. Because of its wider margin of safety, permethrin may become the preferred treatment for crusted scabies.
