We aimed to ascertain the chronologicage at which these sonographic measurements begin to show a significantdifference. The study included 100 women (78, aged 19-44 and 22, aged 45-50)menstruated spontaneously and without thyroid disease, diabetes mellitus,hyperprolactinaemia, hypogonadotropic hypogonadism or polycystic ovary syndromeand any gynaecologic surgery. They all underwent sonographic measurement oftotal antral follicle (TAF) count and mean ovarian volume (MOV) on the secondor third days of menstrual cycle. Then, the women were assigned to 5 groups: group1, 19–24 years; group 2, 25–29 years; group 3, 30–37 years; group 4, 38-44years; and group 5, 45-50 years. Therewas a significant association between chronological age and TAF number (r² =0.328, p < 0.001). No significant difference was noted in TAF number amongthe first three groups (² = 0.58, p > 0.05). TAF number was significantly different between groups 3 and 4(Z: -3.463, p < 0.001), but not between groups 4 and 5 (Z: -1.698, p >0.05). There was a significantrelationship between chronological age and MOV (r² = 0.149, p < 0.001). MOVvalues did not show a significant difference among the first 4 groups(² = 0.58, p> 0.05; ² = 7.87, p > 0.05 respectively). The MOV of group 5 was significantly different from those ofgroups 1, 2, 3, and 4 (Z: -2.75, p < 0.01; Z: -4.351, p < 0.01; Z:-2.722, p < 0.01; and Z: -2.829, p < 0.01 respectively). In conclusion, theTAF count decreases significantly beginning at 38 years of age, while MOVdecreases significantly beginning at 45 years of age. Thus, there is nosignificant decrease in the ovarian follicular reserve until the age of 38years, or in the ovarian volume until the age of 45 years.&nbsp

WOS: 000379157300158 We evaluated the bacterial profiles and antibiotic sensitivities presenting in each trimester of pregnant women diagnosed with lower urinary tract infection. Escherichia coli was the most common isolated uropathogen (77.8%, 75%, and 52%, respectively), followed by Klebsiella pneumoniae (0%, 3.6%, and 16%, respectively), and Enterococcus faecalis (3.7%, 14.3%, and 8%, respectively). Ciprofloxacin was found to have sensitivity for all uropathogens, with 92.8% sensitivity for Escherichia coli and 100% for Klebsiella pneumoniae. Norfloxacin also exhibited high sensitivity for almost all bacterial agents, except Acinetobacter baumannii, with 91.4% sensitivity for Escherichia coli and 100% for Klebsiella pneumoniae. Phosphomycin had the highest sensitivity, 100%, for the two most common uropathogens, Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Because empirical antimicrobial choices play a critical role in the prevention of unwanted complications, lower urinary tract infection in pregnancy can be treated with empirically selected phosphomycin.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the validity of platelet count (PC) and indices, including mean platelet volume (MPV), platelet distribution width (PDW) and platelet crit (PCT), in identifying the pregnancies at risk for preeclampsia. Demographic data and laboratory tests for PC, MPV, PDW and PCT of 250 pregnant women (100 normotensive pregnants, 121 pregnants with severe preeclampsia and 29 pregnants with mild preeclampsia) were retrospectively analyzed. Platelet counts and indices were compared between the study groups. Sebasöz bez hiperplazisi, yaşlı hastalarda yüzde meydana gelen bir cilt lezyonudur. Lezyonun vulvada ortaya çıkması son derece nadirdir. Literatürde şimdiye kadar sadece 6 olgu tanımlanmıştır. Vulvar lezyonlar genelde labia minorada ve polipoidal görünümdedir. Yüzdeki ve diğer bölgelerdeki lezyonlara karşılık vulvar lezyonların iki ilginç özelliği, genelde reprodüktif dönemdeki kadınlarda gözlenmiş ve daha büyük boyutlara ulaşmış olmalarıdır. Biz bu olgu sunumunda vulvada sağ labium minorada sebasöz bez hiperplazili yeni bir olgu bildirdik., Sebaceous gland hyperplasia is a cutaneous lesion occurring on the face in elderly patients. The occurrence of the lesion on the vulva is exceptionally rare. We have identified only six cases reported in the literature so far. Vulvar lesions were predominantly on the labia minora and polipoidal in appearance. Contrary to the lesions on the face and the other regions, that the cases of vulvar sebaceous gland hyperplasia were seen predominantly in women of reproductive age and that they were in the greater dimensions were two interesting peculiarities of these lesions. We here in report a new case of sebaceous gland hyperplasia in the right labium minus of vulva.

The aim of this study was to investigate efficiency of flexible dose of recombinant FSH as an adjuvant to clomiphene citrate and to investigate factors that effect pregnancy rates in couples undergoing consecutive intrauterine insemination (IUI) cycles. Material and methods. Three hundred and seven couples who underwent 580 IUI cycles with ovarian stimulation by clomiphene citrate and/or gonadotropins were analyzed from November 2004 to September 2009, retrospectively. Results. The overall and the clinical pregnancy rates per cycle were 9.8% and 8.3% respectively. There was no pregnancy in 48 cycles which induced with recombinant FSH only as an adjuvant to clomiphene. The only statistically different parameter was the sperm motility between pregnant and non-pregnant groups, but discriminative analysis revealed that this sperm parameter could not be used in the prediction of pregnancy alone. Conclusion. Although combined use of clomiphene citrate and human menopausal gonadotropins are effective in IUI and ART cycles, to support mono follicular maturation furthermore, adjuvant low dose recombinant FSH does not seem to be helpful in IUI cycles alone.

The most common malignancy arising in mature cystic teratoma is squamous cell carcinoma. Sarcomas very rarely develop in mature cystic teratoma. We describe the case of it 65-year-old patient with mature cystic teratoma, and with rhabdomyosarcomatous transformation and contralateral scrolls carcinoma. To our knowledge, this is the first case of a pure rhabdomyosarcoma arising in a mature cystic teratoma. The clinicopathologic and immunohistochemical findings of this exceptional case are reported and the literature is reviewed.

Aksoy, Abdurrahman/0000-0001-9486-312X; WOS: 000267869400007 Aflatoxins are a group of toxic compounds produced by certain strains of the fungi Aspergillus flavus and A. parasiticus. This study was carried out to determine the AFM1 levels of human milk samples in Samsun province, Turkey. The breast milk samples were obtained from 50 healthy lactating women whose ages ranged between 18-38 years. Samples were analysed for AFM1 by microtitre plate enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and 33 mothers (66%) were found to be contaminated with AFM1. Contamination levels were ranging from 0.38 to 9.43 ng/L (methan 4.26 +/- 0.38 ng/L). AFM1 contamination levels of all samples were lower than the maximum tolerance limits of European Commission, Codex Alimentarius and United States for infant and animal milk, for human consumption. The study showed that whereas AFM1 levels were found to be low, contamination was found high in breast milk samples of mothers living in Samsun province. Although it seems that the mother's milk is not at risk for aflatoxins adverse effects of AFM1 in exposed infants and children should be considered. Therefore, routine monitoring of AFM1 should be performed and the study must be extended to both mothers and infants of the other cities in Turkey.
