Using point-based customer densities rather than ordinary area-based densities as data forms part of a monitoring and locational decision support system for retail tasks. Conversion of grid data to grid data and of sample data to grid data involves the use of interpolation and bicubic spline gridding, respectively. Negligible shifts are observed while representing retail trade zones as a three-dimensional surface in color graphics.

Objective: Dermatomyositis (DM) is an idiopathic inflammatory myopathy which often involves the lungs. DM is likely to be associated with aberrant T- and B-cell activation in the pathogenesis because of the proven effectiveness of T- and B-cell-targeted treatments. Assuming that the aberrant activation is reflected by biases in the lymphocyte subset repertoires, we aimed to elucidate these biases, especially in relation to clinical features of DM.Method: Based on the immunophenotyping standardized by the Human Immunology Project Consortium, untreated 13 DM patients, including seven patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD), and 18 age-matched healthy donors (HDs) were examined for proportions of peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets. Six DM patients were examined before and after successful induction of remission.Results: Naïve CD4+ T cells and naïve B cells were more abundant, while there were fewer naïve CD8+ T cells, central memory CD8+ T cells, effector memory CD4+ T cells, Th1 cells, Tfh cells, and memory B cells in DM patients than in HDs. When the patients were subgrouped according to the presence of ILD, the lymphocyte subset repertoires in the patients with ILD contributed to the statistical differences in all the biased lymphocyte subset proportions. After treatment, transitional B cells vanished and there was an increase in memory B cells.Conclusion: The lymphocyte subset repertoires in the DM patients were biased, and were associated with the presence of ILD and disease activity of DM. In this paper keenly-competing Japanese twin cities are examined and the competitive oscillations occurring between them is analyzed as a typical example of medium-term competitive processes. From an analysis of market shares for annual retail of women's and children's clothes it was found that there are certain oscillations between the twin cities. As these oscillations are derived from the strong competition between closely-located twin cities, they are called competitive oscillations. In order to analyze the generation of the competitive oscillations, an attempt to reproduce a strongly competitive condition by constructing a dynamic model of two-centre competition was made. As the twin cities share a large part of their populations, they are under strong competitive conditions in which major retail development at one city produces an absolute loss to the other city. Therefore, the twin cities seesaw through the introduction of innovations such as large shops in order to gain a more advantageous competitive position, resulting in competitive oscillations between them. This finding implies that the introduction of innovations to centres is a competitive device in the medium-term and is consistent with the view that the diffusion of innovations is closely related to the competitive process.

The article describes the case of a 45-year-old Japanese woman with refractory thrombotic thrombocytopaenic purpura (TTP) complicated with polymyositis which was successfully treated with rituximab. Topics discussed include the administration of daily plasma exchange and prednisolone, the resistance of TTP to corticosteroids, and the improvement of the patient's clinical and laboratory findings three days after starting rituximab.

OBJECTIVE: Triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 1 (TREM-1) is inducible on monocyte/macrophages and neutrophils and accelerates tissue destruction by propagating inflammatory responses in disease related to bacterial infections. Its blockade rescues the hosts in murine models of sepsis, to clear the bacteria without impairing the host defense. The aim of this study was to investigate the involvement of TREM-1 in an autoimmune, noninfectious disease. METHODS: Synovial tissue specimens from the joints of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and the joints of mice with collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) were examined for TREM-1 expression, using flow cytometric analysis. Expression of TREM-1 on macrophages was induced by lipopolysaccharide, with or without a cyclooxygenase inhibitor. Rheumatoid synovial cells were stimulated with agonistic anti-TREM-1 antibodies. Recombinant adenovirus encoding the extracellular domain of TREM-1 fused with IgG-Fc (AxCATREM-1 Ig) or synthetic TREM-1 antagonistic peptides were injected to treat CIA, and the clinical manifestations of the antigen-specific T cell and B cell responses were evaluated. RESULTS: TREM-1 was expressed on CD14+ cells in rheumatoid synovial tissue and synovial macrophages from mice with CIA. Unlike murine macrophages, human monocyte/macrophages did not depend on prostaglandin E(2) for up-regulation of TREM-1. Agonistic anti-TREM-1 antibodies promoted tumor necrosis factor alpha production from rheumatoid synovial cells. Blockade of TREM-1 using AxCATREM-1 Ig and antagonistic peptides ameliorated CIA without affecting the serum levels of anti-type II collagen antibodies or the proliferative responses of splenocytes to type II collagen. CONCLUSION: TREM-1 ligation contributes to the pathology of autoimmune arthritis. The results of this study implied that blockade of TREM-1 could be a new approach to rheumatic diseases that is safer than the presently available immunosuppressive treatments. A 56-year-old woman was treated for rheumatoid arthritis for 17 years with methotrexate (MTX). Night sweats, fever and weight loss made her visit our hospital. Although levofloxacin failed to resolve her fever, she was suspected of having sepsis because of pancytopenia, elevated procalcitonin and a nodular lesion in the lung. After urgent hospitalization, she was diagnosed finally with the methotrexate-related lymphoproliferative disorder (MTX-LPD) associated with macrophage activation syndrome (MAS). Her general condition was improved with MTX withdrawal and 5-day high-dose glucocorticoid administration. Thus, even when the patient was critically ill with MAS, no cytotoxic agents were required to control MTX-LPD.

The motions that make up animal behavior arise from the interplay between neural circuits and the mechanical parts of the body. Therefore, in order to comprehend the operational mechanisms governing behavior, it is essential to examine not only the underlying neural network but also the mechanical characteristics of the animal's body. The locomotor system of fly larvae serves as an ideal model for pursuing this integrative approach. By virtue of diverse investigation methods encompassing connectomics analysis and quantification of locomotion kinematics, research on larval locomotion has shed light on the underlying mechanisms of animal behavior. These studies have elucidated the roles of interneurons in coordinating muscle activities within and between segments, as well as the neural circuits responsible for exploration. This review aims to provide an overview of recent research on the neuromechanics of animal locomotion in fly larvae. We also briefly review interspecific diversity in fly larval locomotion and explore the latest advancements in soft robots inspired by larval locomotion. The ability to adjust the speed of locomotion is essential for survival. In limbed animals, the frequency of locomotion is modulated primarily by changing the duration of the stance phase. The underlying neural mechanisms of this selective modulation remain an open question. Here, we report a neural circuit controlling a similarly selective adjustment of locomotion frequency in Drosophila larvae. Drosophila larvae crawl using peristaltic waves of muscle contractions. We find that larvae adjust the frequency of locomotion mostly by varying the time between consecutive contraction waves, reminiscent of limbed locomotion. A specific set of muscles, the lateral transverse (LT) muscles, co-contract in all segments during this phase, the duration of which sets the duration of the interwave phase. We identify two types of GABAergic interneurons in the LT neural network, premotor neuron A26f and its presynaptic partner A31c, which exhibit segmentally synchronized activity and control locomotor frequency by setting the amplitude and duration of LT muscle contractions. Altogether, our results reveal an inhibitory central circuit that sets the frequency of locomotion by controlling the duration of the period in between peristaltic waves.
