Electrical and dielectric properties of Au/1% graphene (GP)+[Ca.sub.1.9][Pr.sub.0.1][Co.sub.4][O.sub.x] doped poly(vinyl alcohol)/n-Si structures have been investigated using the admittance spectroscopy method in the temperature and voltage ranges of 160-300 K and -4-5 V, respectively. Experimental results show that both the main electrical and dielectric parameters, such as barrier height ([Φ.sub.b]), depletion layer width ([W.sub.d]), series resistance ([R.sub.s]) of structure, real and imaginary parts of dielectric constant (ζ', ζ') and electric modulus (M' and M'), tanδ, and AC conductivity ([σ.sub.ac]) were found to be strong functions of temperature and applied bias voltage. M' and M' versus V plots have a peak at about 1V. While the peak position shifted towards negative biases, the magnitude of the peak decreases with increasing temperature. Such peak behavior in M' and M' can be attributed to the existence of particular density distribution profile interface states at the interfacial layer-n-Si interface and their reordering and restructure under external electric field and interface polarization. These peaks also indicated that the Au/1% GP+[Ca.sub.1.9][Pr.sub.0.1][Co.sub.4][O.sub.x] doped poly(vinyl alcohol)/n-Si structure exhibits relaxation phenomena. Les mesures montrent que les deux types de parametres, electriques et dielectriques, comme la hauteur de barriere ([Φ.sub.b]), la largeur de la couche de depletion ([W.sub.d]), la structure de resistance serie ([R.sub.s]), les parties reelle et imaginaire de la constante dielectrique (ζ', ζ') et les modules electriques (M' et M'), tanδ et la conductivite AC [σ.sub.ac], dependent tous fortement de la temperature et du voltage de polarisation. Les graphiques de M' et M' versus V ont un pic autour de 1 V. Alors que ce pic se deplace vers des valeurs negatives, sa hauteur diminue lorsque la temperature augmente. Un tel comportement du pic peut etre attribue a un profile de distribution de densite particulier d'etats inter-faciaux dans la couche inter-faciale/n-Si et leur rearrangement et restructuration sous un champ electrique externe et une polarisation d'interface. Background: In ovo application is the process of administering some nutrients or components into the egg. The main purpose of this application is to ensure that some nutrients are provided to chicks with a short incubation period. Few studies were conducted with taurine in fertile eggs; especially, no observation of hatchability and chick quality has been found. In addition, taurine has an anti-stress impact that fights oxidative factors., Objective: To assess the hatchability and chick quality after in ovo taurine administration. To determine the stress that may occur as a result of in ovo application and whether taurine has a stress-reducing effect., Methods: A total of 1200 fertile eggs from a 34-week-old broiler breeder (Ross 308) flock were categorized into 4 groups with 75 eggs per replicate: control (uninjected), taurine group (0.30 mL dissolved taurine in distilled water), sham control (sterile distilled water) and perforation (eggs perforated and then waxed). On day 14 of incubation, an in ovo injection was administered to the albumen. Data on hatching parameters and hepatic HSP70 levels were obtained using relevant formulas and western blotting, respectively., Results: Control chicks exhibited higher hatchability than other groups, with the taurine group showing the lowest hatchability. The HSP70 levels were the highest in the perforation group compared to the control group. An increase of 21.37% in the taurine group and 83.45% in the sham control group was observed compared to the control group., Conclusions: The findings suggest that in ovo application may induce increased stress, whereas taurine may have positive effects in mitigating the stress caused by in ovo application., (© 2024 The Authors. This study was aimed at quantifying artifacts from zygoma implants in cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images using different exposure parameters. Two cadaver heads, one with two zygoma implants on each side and the other for control, were scanned using 18 different exposure parameters. Quantitative analysis was performed to evaluate the hypodense and hyperdense artifact percentages calculated as the percentage of the area. Hyperdense artifacts and hypodense artifacts were detected, followed by the calculation of the hyperdense and hypodense artifact percentages in the image. In the qualitative analysis of the artifacts, the scores used were as follows: absence (0), moderate presence (1), or high presence (2) for hypodense halos, thin hypodense lines, and hyperdense lines. Artifact analysis was performed qualitatively and quantitatively using the post-hoc Tukey and Two-way ANOVA tests. As a result, in the qualitative analyses, zygoma implants showed a significant difference compared to the control group with regard to hyperdense and hypodense artifacts ( p  < 0.05). There was a significant difference between the means according to the FOV size arithmetic averages ( p  < 0.05). In terms of voxel size, the difference was found to be significant, where 400 microns showed the highest hypodense artifact while 200 microns showed the lowest hypodense artifact. In conclusion, hypodense and hyperdense artifacts were significantly higher in cadavers with zygoma implants than in controls. As FOV and voxel size increase, more hypodense artifacts are produced by zygoma implants so smaller FOV and voxel sizes should be used to prevent poor image quality of adjacent teeth.

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effects of age and radiographic parameters on success of orthodontic alignment of impacted maxillary canines., Materials and Methods: The retrospective records of 50 patients (mean age 20.44 years) who had impacted maxillary canines in palatal position were included. The patients was requiring surgical exposure and mechanical orthodontic treatment were divided into two groups as adolescent (age≤18; n=24) and adult (age>18; n=26). In both groups, the treatment time and success were evaluated clinically and radiographically., Results: Fifty patients between the ages of 13 to 42 (12 males and 38 females) with palatally impacted canines were treated with combined surgical-orthodontic approach. Forty-seven teeth (94%) had reacted to surgical exposure and orthodontic alignment within 16 to 36 months with a mean of 24.81 months. Three of the impacted canines (6%) were surgically removed because no movement was observed following 10 months of traction forces., Conclusion: The distance of the canine tip to the occlusal plane on the lateral cephalometric radiographs have found to be related with the total orthodontic treatment time. Neither the age of the patient nor other clinic and radiographic parameters had influence on the treatment results of alignment of maxillary canines following surgical exposure., (Copyright © 2019 European Oral Research.)

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of nebivolol, carvedilol or metoprolol succinate on the outcome of patients presenting with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) complicated by left ventricular dysfunction., Subjects and Methods: Patients (n = 172, aged 28-87 years) with AMI and left ventricular ejection fraction ≤0.45 were randomized to the nebivolol (n = 55), carvedilol (n = 60) and metoprolol succinate (n = 57) groups. Baseline demographic and clinical characteristics and composite event rates of nonfatal MI, cardiovascular mortality, hospitalization due to unstable angina pectoris or heart failure, stroke or revascularization during the 12-month follow-up were compared among the groups using the x03C7;2 test, t test or log-rank test as appropriate., Results: Baseline demographic and clinical characteristics were similar in the three groups. The composite end point during follow-up was lower in the patients treated with nebivolol than those treated with metoprolol (14.5 vs. 31.5%; p = 0.03). However, event rates were similar between the patients treated with carvedilol and those treated with the metoprolol (20.3 vs. 31.5%, p > 0.05) and between the patients treated with nebivolol and carvedilol (14.5 vs. 20.3%, p > 0.05)., Conclusion: The patients treated with nebivolol experienced 12-month cardiovascular events at a lower rate than those treated with metoprolol succinate. The aim of this study was to assess the values of mean platelet volume (MPV) in regular smokers and the effect of smoking cessation on MPV. The study group consisted of 116 regular smokers (57 females and 59 males; mean age 46.3 ± 12.7 years) and the control group was composed of 90 healthy volunteers (49 females and 41 males; mean age 47.7 ± 8.3 years). Platelet indices were assessed in regular smokers and control participants. Platelet indices were measured at 3 months after smoking cessation in these 101 participants. The MPV values were significantly higher in smokers than those of controls (8.8 ± 0.9 vs 8.0±0.8 fL, respectively; P < .001). The MPV values decreased significantly at 3 months when compared with the baseline values (8.9 ± 1.0 vs 7.9 ± 0.7 fL, respectively; P < .001). We have found that serum MPV values were significantly higher in regular smokers than in controls. Serum MPV values decreased significantly at 3 months after smoking cessation.

Background: This retrospective study was designed to investigate the efficacy and safety of intermittent portal triad clamping (PTC) with low central venous pressure (CVP) in liver resections., Methods: Between January 2007 and August 2013, 115 patients underwent liver resection with intermittent PTC. The patients' data were retrospectively analyzed., Results: There were 58 males and 57 females with a mean age of 55 years (± 13.7). Cirrhosis was found in 23 patients. Resections were performed for malignant disease in 62.6% (n = 72) and for benign disease in 37.4% (n = 43). Major hepatectomy was performed in 26 patients (22.4%). Mean liver ischemia period was 27.1 min (± 13.9). The mortality rate was 1.7% and the morbidity rate was 22.6%. Cumulative clamping time (t = 3.61, P < 0.001) and operation time (t = 2.38, P < 0.019) were significantly correlated with AST alterations (D-AST). Cumulative clamping time (t = 5.16, P < 0.001) was significantly correlated with D-ALT. Operation time (t = 5.81, P < 0.001) was significantly correlated with D-LDH., Conclusions: Intermittent PTC under low CVP was performed with low morbidity and mortality. Intermittent PTC can be safely applied up to 60 minutes in both normal and impaired livers.
