To quantify and compare injury incidence between national-level, adolescent and regional-level, senior, male basketball players competing in Serbia overall and according to injury mechanism (contact, non-contact, or overuse), exposure setting (training or games), and history (new or recurrent). A total of 218 male basketball players from 19 teams (106 senior and 112 adolescent players) volunteered to participate in the study. Descriptive data regarding game and training injury incidence were gathered across all players and reported per 10,000 athlete-exposures (AE) with 95% confidence intervals. Overall, 26 injuries were reported across 52,509 AE. Ankle (n = 10, incidence rate [IR] = 1.90 [0.97, 3.40]) and knee injuries (n = 8, IR = 1.52 [0.71, 2.89]) accounted for 69% of all reported injuries, with only 1–2 injuries documented for other body regions. Ankle injuries were attributed to contact (60%, IR = 1.14 [0.46, 2.38]) or non-contact mechanisms (40%, IR = 0.76 [0.24, 1.84]). Most knee injuries occurred due to overuse (50%, IR = 0.76 [0.24, 1.84]) or non-contact mechanisms (38%, IR = 0.57 [0.15, 1.56]). Comparisons according to exposure setting revealed significantly higher knee (incidence rate ratio [IRR] = 9.95 [1.85, 53.41], p = 0.004) and ankle (IRR = 39.79 [7.94, 384.67], p < 0.001) injuries per 10,000 AE during games compared to training. Recurrent injuries were most prominent in the ankle (30% of all ankle injuries, p = 0.11). Total contact (p = 0.04), non-contact (p = 0.04), and recurrent IR (p = 0.005) were significantly higher in senior than adolescent players. The players examined were most susceptible to ankle and knee injuries, particularly during games compared to training. Ankle injuries were mostly attributed to player contact, while knee injuries were mostly attributed to overuse and non-contact mechanisms. (1) Background: The objective of this systematic review was to collect relevant data in the available contemporary studies about sports injuries of basketball players and explain differences in sports injuries relative to gender, location, sport, and position on the court; (2) Methods: The papers were searched digitally using PubMed, MEDLINE, ERIC, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect databases, from 1990 to 2024; (3) Results: The most frequent severe injuries for both genders are knee and ankle injuries and the most frequent forms of injury are ankle sprain and ligament strain. The most frequent injuries occur during running and after contact with the ball. Shooting guards sustain the highest injury rate followed by centers and point guards, while guards have the highest rate of adductor muscle injury; and (4) Conclusions: Studies indicate that ankle and knee injuries are prevalent among basketball players, with ankle sprains being particularly prevalent. Knee injuries are more common in female basketball players, including ACL injuries. Various factors contribute to injuries, including the biomechanics of jumping, landing, sudden changes in direction, and the physical demands placed on the body during the game. Basketball is a complex sports game, interrupted by the constant change of defense and offense, and it is a combination of cyclic and most often acyclic movements. Since basketball involves sudden and intense changes in the movement direction, high frequencies of initiating dribbling and movement in posture, stoppings, and physical contact allowed by game rules, there is a link between the abilities needed for successful basketball playing and playing positions. This research aimed to determine the differences in motoric abilities, i.e. the change of direction speed, explosive strength, and running speed of basketball players who compete in different ranks of the competition in relation to the playing positions. The sample of 25 basketball players was divided into two subsamples in relation to the rank of the competition (elite and sub-elite). Eleven motoric ability tests were used in the study (change of direction speed - four tests, explosive strength - four tests, and running speed - three tests). Applying the analysis of variance (ANOVA and MANOVA), differences in motoric abilities were determined between basketball players of different ranks of a competition in relation to the playing positions in the team. Based on the results, a conclusion was reached that the players differ in favor of a higher rank of a competition in the tested abilities, namely those ones who play in the forward position. It can be inferred that a higher rank of a competition requires better quality preparation and players who differ in tactical thinking and better performance of measured abilities. The explosive strength is the capability to perform a jump, to perform a hard blow, and to perform and to create one fast and strong movement, which is momentary. The aim of research was to determine differences in the explosive strength, jump performance and speed between football players with different levels of competition (aged 10 to 12 years). The sample of research were 20 football players of federal level (age 11,31±0,62; height 153,93±7,94 cm; weight 43,18±6,91 kg) and 20 football players of regional level (age 11,05±0,49; height 150,39±8,14 cm; weight 43,13±7,72 kg). The sample of the variables represented six tests of explosive strength - jump performance: standing long jump, triple jump, countermovement jump and speed: sprint on 10m, 20m and 30 m. The results were determined by T-Test for small independent causes. Based on the results, we conclude that there are significant differences between football players with different levels of competition in all variables, and this difference is defined as significantly better results in all tests in favor of the football players with federal level of competition. After processing and the data obtained it can be concluded that the federal league coaches pay more attention to the development of explosive strength and speed than regional rank coaches. During adolescence, daily physical activity is of essential importance for the improvement of health, proper growth and development, as well as the decrease in the risk factors for the onset of cardio-vascular and metabolic disorders later on in adulthood. For that reason it is necessary to create the preconditions for physical activity of adolescents with mental retardation so that they could have equal opportunities as their peers. The objective of this pilot study was to determine the differences in physical fitness and specific motor skills after eight weeks of a specially adapted basketball training program. Twelve adolescents (6 males and 6 females, mean age 15.1±1.5 yrs) with mental retardation participated in the study. Specially adapted basketball training program was conducted four times per week, during eight consecutive weeks. Each training session lasted approximately 30 minutes. Obtained results showed that the program improved specific motor skills. However, such training did not improve physical fitness in the adolescent subjects. Considering the small number of participants involved in the study, the obtained results can provide only limited information on the sources and magnitude of variation of response measures, but can facilitate the design of a full-scale experiment on this topic. Success in basketball and handball playing depends on several anthropological dimensions of various relations. Basketball and handball belong to the group of polystructural sports and are characterized by similar movement structures such as continuous changes in the phases of the attack and defense, swift change of the direction of movement, sudden stoppings and starting and dribbling, large number of jumps. However, these sports games have different rules and different structure of performance of single movement patterns in space. The aim of this research is to define the differences in some anthropometric characteristics of the elite male and female basketball and handball players. The research sample comprised 100 elite athletes divided into two subsamples, the first one with 50 male basketball players and the other subsample of 50 male handball players, all belonging to the first national league. Differences between the subjects were determined by means of T-test on the univariate and discriminative canonic analysis on the multivariate level. On the basis of the obtained results and their interpretation it can be concluded that there are statistically significant differences in the researched anthropometric characteristics between the elite male basketball and handball players these being manifested in the variables for the estimation of the circular dimensionality, chest and forearm circumference in favor of the group of the handball players. This work clarifies problems of the perception of sexual activity by long-distance athletes before physical loading. The group that answered a questionnaire comprised 62 race-walkers and long-distance runners from 6 European countries age of 32 years ± 8 years. Questionnaire was composed of 8 closed questions with extra questions. More than 90% of addressed athletes suppose that having a sex 12 hours before endurance performance does not influence it. Immediately after sexual intercourse 40% of athletes have worse feelings during intensive loading. At the aerobic loading it does not change subjects' feelings or heart rate. Unambiguously we cannot say that having sex before physical loading influences performance positively or negatively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
