This dissertation forms part of the North/South-line Impact Study, a four-year interdisciplinary research project on the effects of the opening of a new metro line in Amsterdam connecting the north with the south of the city. Our main research question focuses on mobility and accessibility: "What are the effects of the opening of the North/South metro line for the entire transportation system in the Greater Amsterdam Metropolitan region?". In particular we examine how the new metro line affects: (1) changes in multi-modal travel behavior, (2) changes in the number of trips and travel distance per transportation mode, and (3) travel times and congestion for car and bicycle. We examine each of these three dimensions in turn, in the three parts of this thesis.
