Objective: In this study the authors aimed to evaluate the clinicopathological features and prognostic factors of sex-cord stromal tumors (SCST). Materials and Methods: The medical and pathological records of patients with SCST who were operated and followed up in a tertiary university clinic between March 1991 and October 2013 were reviewed. Clinical, surgical and pathological characteristics, follow-up data of the patients, and the effect of this parameters on survival were investigated. Results: One hundred and three women with a mean age of 45±12.8 (range 16-78) were included. Histopathological diagnosis was found as granulosa cell tumor in 95 (92.2%), Sertoli-Leydig cell tumor (SLCT) in six (5.8%), Leydig cell tumor (LCT) in one, and Sertoli cell tumor (SCT) in one of the cases. Sixty-eight percent of the patients had Stage I, 8.7% Stage II, 15.5% Stage III, and 6.8% had Stage IV disease. On univariate analysis; stage, age greater than 50 years, suboptimal cytoreduction, bilaterality, and non-BEP chemotherapy were determined as poor prognostic indicators. On multivariate analysis, age, stage, and optimal cytoreduction were found to be independent prognostic factors for overall survival, while only optimal cytoreduction was detected as an independent prognostic factor for disease-free survival (DFS). Fertility-sparing surgical procedures (FSS) were performed in 22 patients (21.4%). Among these 22 cases 16 (72.7%) pregnancies (13 resulted in a live birth and three in abortion) were achieved through a median period of 72 months (24-240). Conclusion: It was concluded that the most effective parameters on survival were stage and optimal cytoreduction. FSS is an effective approach for preserving the reproductive functions of young patients with SCST.

Imazamox, is a herbicide intensively used in the peanut field soils of Osmaniye, Turkey with Mediterranean climate conditions. In this study, two types of soils were selected, first not exposed (NE) to Imazamox previously and the second Imazamox treated peanut soil (P). The recommended field dose [(RFD), 40 g L-1 active ingredient], 2 × RFD, and 4 × RFD of this herbicide were added to the NE and P soil. The microbial activities of the soils were measured by carbon and nitrogen mineralization under two different humidity conditions [60% and 80% of field capacity (FC)]. Carbon mineralization was determined by the CO2 respiration method at 30°C over 45 days. Two new copper(II) complexes with the antiviral drug acyclovir (H2L) have been synthesized: the mononuclear complex [Cu(H2L)Cl-2]center dot 1.5H(2)O and the binuclear one [Cu-2(H2L)(3)(H2O)(2)Cl center dot 5(H2O). The complexes have been characterized using elemental analysis, conductivity, atomic absorption, electronic, IR and mass spectra, magnetochemical and thermogravimetric methods. In the mononuclear complex [Cu(H2L)Cl-2]center dot 1.5H(2)O, copper(II) is coordinated bidentately with the N and O groups of a drug molecule forming a nearly square-planar structure of the type CuL, with a CuNO chromophore. In complex [Cu-2(H2L)(3)(H2O)(2)Cl center dot 5(H2O) each copper atom is coordinated with one N atom from one ligand, one oxygen atom from one ligand molecule which serve as bridges in the formation of the binuclear complex [Cu-2(H2L)(3)(H2O)(2)Cl center dot 5(H2O). In aqueous solutions, a binuclear violet complex [Cu-2(H2L)(3)(H2O)(2)Cl center dot 5(H2O) is formed with an square pyramid structure. Measurable anti ferromagnetic interactions between the two paramagnetic Cu(II) centers are responsible for some interesting magnetic properties. Using the Job method, the compositions of these complexes were determined. Protonation constants of the acyclovir and stability constants of its Cu2+ complexes were determined by potentiometric titration method in 50 % methanol-water mixtures at 25.00 +/- 0.02 degrees C under nitrogen atmosphere and ionic strength of 0.10 M sodium chloride. It has been observed that acyclovir has two protonation constants. The divalent metal ion Cu2+ forms CuL2, Cu2H2L2 and Cu2L stable complexes with acyclovir. The voltammetric behaviour of the complexes were studied using cyclic voltammetric technique. Different parameters were tested to optimize the conditions for the characterization of the complexes. The dependence of current intensities and potentials on pH, concentration, scan rate, nature of the buffer were also investigated. The antimicrobial activity studies of the acyclovir and it's complexes have been studied against some gram positive species: (Corynebacterium xerosis, Bacillus brevis, Bacillus megaterium, Bacillus cereus, Mycobacterium smegmatis, Staphylococcus aureus, Micrococcus luteus, Enterococcus faecalis) and gram negative (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Yersinia enterocolitica, Kluyveromyces fragilis, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Candida albicans) bacteria.

A simple. sensitive and accurate spectrophotometric method has been developed for the assay of levofloxacin (LEVO), which is based on the complexation of drug with copper(II) at pH 5.0. using Britton-Robinson (BRT) buffer solution, to produce a green adduct. Developed spectrophotometric method was compared with UV-spectrophotometric method. The absorbances were measured at 581.13 nm and 299.15 nm for proposed method and UV-spectrophotometric method. respectively. The stoichiometric ratio of levofloxacin to Cu(II) ions in the chromophoric complex was also determined to be 1:1 by Job's method. The optimum conditions for Cu(II)-LEVO complex(1: 1) were ascertained and a spectrophotometric method was developed for the determination of levofloxacin in the concentration range 8.0-160.0 g mL(-1), the detection limit being 2.3 g mL(-1). The method was validated for the direct determination of levofloxacin in tablet dosage formulations. The repeatability. reproducibility. precision and accuracy of the method was also investigated. WOS: 000497992700010 The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of emamectin benzoate (EB) at different recommended field doses (RFD, RFDx2, RFDx4) on soil carbon mineralisation (C-m). Soils were humidified at their 40, 60 and 80% of field capacities (FC40, FC60 and FC80) and were incubated at 28 and at 32 degrees C for 45 days. All doses of EB under all temperatures and moistures significantly decreased C-m with the exception of between control and all treatments at 32 degrees C under FC40 (P < 0.05). On the other hand, increase in temperature (28 < 32 degrees C) and soil moisture (FC40 < FC60 < FC80) significantly enhanced C-m (P < 0.05). Addition of EB doses decreased potentially mineralisable carbon (C-0) at 28 degrees C but they generally enhanced at 32 degrees C. Mineralisation constant values (k) were in a narrow range from a minimum of 0.025 for RFD under FC40 at 28 degrees C to a maximum of 0.037 for control under FC40 at 32 degrees C. It is possible to conclude that all doses of EB negatively affected soil microbial activity while increase in temperature and moisture positively increased C-m.
