WOS: 000489124900003 A case-control study was conducted to elucidate the possible roles of two SNPs (TP53 codon 72 and SET8 miR-502) that may affect each other in the same signaling pathway in bladder cancer susceptibility. Genotype distributions of 180 bladder cancer patients in comparison with 203 cancer-free controls were tested using PCR-RFLP method. For TP53, the researchers observed some protective effect of CC (Pro/Pro) genotype when compared with the heterozygous form (CG). For SET8 miR502, the researchers found no significant association in terms of variant alleles. These data suggest the association of TP53 codon 72 SNP, but not SET8 miR-502 with bladder cancer susceptibility in Turkish population. Further studies with larger sample sizes and different ethnicities are desirable to validate the researchers' findings.

Background: Multiple beams are generally used with an increased possibility that the beam axis intersects the treatment table. Treatment tabletops are commonly made of carbon fiber due to its high mechanical strength and rigidity, low specific density, extremely light and low radiation beam attenuation properties. Purpose of this paper is investigated the dose changes in the buildup region and beam attenuation by a carbon fiber tabletop for high energy 6-and 18-MV photon beams. Materials and Methods: Measurements were performed for 10 cm × 10 cm and 20 cm × 20 cm field sizes. The surface dose and percentage depth doses (%DD) were measured by a Markus parallel plate chamber at a source-surface distance (SSD) of 100 cm for 6 MV and 18 MV photon beams. Attenuation measurements were made at the solid-water phantom for gantry angles of 0o and 180o rotation of the beam. Results: A carbon fiber tabletop increases the surface dose from 12.87% to 86.65% for 10 cm x 10 cm and from 8.72% to 71.16% for 20 cm × 20 cm field at 6 and 18 MV, respectively. The surface dose with the carbon fiber tabletop in an open field (0o) increases with field size. Conclusion: The carbon fiber tabletop causes a substantially increased surface dose, and also significantly decreases the skin-sparing effect, which is clinically important. The dosimetric effect of the tabletop may be higher, especially for the intensitymodulated radiation therapy depending on the beam orientation. © 2018 Food and Drug Law Institute. University of Agriculture, This study was conducted to determine the effect of increasing dietary inclusion of dry Caper (Capparis spinosa) fruit (DCF) on egg production and quality characteristics of laying hens between 20 and 32 weeks of age. Four groups of commercial hens (ATAK-S) were fed with diets containing 0, 5, 10 and 15 g DCF/kg. The results showed that final body weight, feed intake, shape index (SI) and morning hen-day egg yield were influenced by dietary supplementation of DCF (P0.05) during the entire experiment. The lightness (L*) and redness (a*) values for egg shell color were similar (P>0.05) in the DCL supplemented groups as compared to the control group. The human proteome contains myriad intrinsically disordered proteins. Within intrinsically disordered proteins, polyproline-II motifs are often located near sites of phosphorylation. Wehave used an unconventional experimental paradigm to discover that phosphorylation by protein kinase A (PKA) occurs in the intrinsically disordered domain of hepatitis C virus nonstructural protein 5A (NS5A) on Thr-2332 near one of its polyproline-II motifs. Phosphorylation shifts the conformational ensemble of the NS5A intrinsically disordered domain to a state that permits detection of the polyproline motif by using 15N-, 13C-based multidimensional NMR spectroscopy. PKA-dependent proline resonances were lost in the presence of the Src homology 3 domain of c-Src, consistent with formation of a complex. Changing Thr-2332 to alanine in hepatitisCvirus genotype 1b reduced the steady-state level of RNA by 10-fold; this change was lethal for genotype 2a. The lethal phenotype could be rescued by changing Thr-2332 to glutamic acid, a phosphomimetic substitution. Immunofluorescence and transmission electron microscopy showed that the inability to produce Thr(P)-2332-NS5A caused loss of integrity of the virus-induced membranous web/replication organelle. An even more extreme phenotype was observed in the presence of small molecule inhibitors of PKA. We conclude that the PKA-phosphorylated form of NS5A exhibits unique structure and function relative to the unphosphorylated protein. We suggest that post-translational modification of viral proteins containing intrinsic disorder may be a general mechanism to expand the viral proteome without a corresponding expansion of the genome.

Date of Conference: 21-25 July 2013 We have performed a first principles study of structural, elastic, and electronic properties of rhombohedral Sb2Te3 and Bi 2Te3 compounds using the density functional theory within the local density approximation. The lattice parameters of considered compounds have been calculated. The second-order elastic constants have been calculated, and the other related quantities such as the Young's modulus, shear modulus, Poisson's ratio, anisotropy factor, sound velocities, and Debye temperature have also been estimated in the present work. The calculated electronic band structure shows that Sb2Te3 and Bi2Te 3 compounds have a direct forbidden band gap. Our structural estimation and some other results are in agreement with the available experimental and theoretical data. © 2013 IEEE.

The electronic band structures, density of states (DOS) and optical properties of BiOCl Crystal are investigated using the density functional theory under the local density approximation (LDA). The obtained electronic band structure show that BiOCl crystal has an indirect forbidden band gap of 2.45 eV. The structural optimization for BiOCl has been performed using the LDA. The result of the structure optimization of BiOCl have been compared with the experimental results and have been found to be in good agreement with these results. The linear photon-energy dependent dielectric functions and some optical properties such as the energy-loss function, the effective number of valence electrons and the effective optical dielectric constant are calculated.

WOS: 000295438300031 In the present study, the heat capacities of the nuclear fuels were computed using the series expansion relation for integer and non-integer n-dimensional Debye functions involving binomial coefficients and incomplete gamma functions. The proposed approach is novel as it uses the non-integer n-dimensional Debye functions for accurate calculations of the heat capacities C-V and C-P. The algorithm is used to simulate the variation of the heat capacities with temperature dependence of the nuclear fuels UO2 and NpO2.
