The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of family firm specific non-financial dynamics [socioemotional wealth (SEW) and family firm psychological capital (FFPsyCap)] on firm performance. We develop a model of how family firms' SEW preservation goal negatively affects firm performance in terms of sales and the mitigating influence of FFPsyCap on this association. We test the model on a sample of 192 family firms in the Hospitality and Tourism (H&T) industry. Using a cross-sectional research design, surveys were solicited from small-and-medium size hotels in Turkey. Ordinary Least Squares technique is used to test our hypotheses. The results reveal that family firms' SEW preservation goal negatively affects firm performance in terms of sales, and the FFPsyCap mitigates this influence. Accordingly, if small-and-medium size firms in H&T can capitalize on non-financial strengths and minimize the impact of family-centric goals on firm outcomes, they can attain transgenerational sustainability and success. PubMed ID: 26827703, Aim To investigate whether there is a relation between neutrophil-lymphocyte (N/L) and platelet- lymphocyte (P/L) ratios and epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) thickness in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Methods Thirty patients diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis and 25 healthy people (controls) were included in the study. Age, gender, body mass index (BMI), height, hemogram, sedimentation, neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio, platelet/lymphocyte ratio, CRP, hepatic and renal function tests, lipid profile of the all patients were recorded. Data related to duration of the disease, Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI) and Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI) values of the cases in the patient group were obtained. A cardiologist measured EAT thickness by ECHO in both patient and control groups. Results In the patient group, mean BASDAI and BASFI scores were 2.48±2.21 and 1.5±2.07, respectively. Age, gender, BMI values did not show statistically significant difference between the patient and the control groups. N/L and P/L ratios did not change significantly in the patient group having higher EAT, BASFI values and taking anti-TNF compared to the control group. Conclusion In patients with AS, EAT measurements, which are related to inflammatory response increase, can be used for monitoring of the risk of development of cardiac disease. We could not find the relation between EAT and N/L, P/L ratios in terms of evaluation of inflammatory response. © 2016, Medical Association of Zenica-Doboj Canton. All rights reserved.

AIM: In this study we aim to determine the frequency of Inlet Patch (IP) and its association to clinical symptoms and draw attention to be aware of this heterotopic gastric mucosa. METHODS: This study was a prospective case series that IP was detected in the upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. Patients with laringopharyngeal reflux symptoms underwent endoscopy between March 2009 and July 2012 in two different institutions. All the biopsies were obtained from if there is the IP lesion and antral or/and gastric mucosa. The data was prospectively evaluated. The prevalence was compared with those of patients that did not determine IP in the study period. RESULTS: 3907 upper gastrointestinal system endoscopy was performed while 123 patients consist of 51 male and 72 female was determined as IP. The prevalence of IP in patiens who underwent upper gastrointestinal endoscopy was 3.14% in our study. The majority of symptoms of those who had IP were laringopharyngeal reflux symptoms. Heterotopic gastric mucosa was fixed in 114 cases while 28 chronic inflammation, 9 esophagitis, 5 intestinal metaplasia, 4 glicogenic acanthosis were obtained as additional findings in pathological examinations. CONCLUSION: Heterotopic gastric mucosa in the proximal esophagus is a frequent finding if the endoscopist is aware of this entity. The importance of IP is the increasing number of cases of neoplastic transformation. Symptomatic patients should be treated and should be considered of the complications of heterotopic gastric mucosa.

Introduction: The use of a multidisciplinary clinical pathway (MCP) for patients with hip fracture tends to be more effective than usual care (UC). The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of an MCP approach on time to surgery, length of stay, postoperative complications, and 30-day mortality, compared to UC. Materials and Methods: This multicenter retrospective cohort study included patients aged 50 years or older with a proximal hip fracture who underwent surgery in one of the 6 hospitals in the Limburg trauma region of the Netherlands in 2012. Data such as demographics, process outcome measures, and clinical outcome were collected. Results: This study included a total of 1193 patients (665 and 528 patients in the MCP and UC groups, respectively). There were no differences in patient demographics present. Time to surgery was significantly shorter in the MCP compared to the UC group (19.2 vs 24.4 hours, P < .01). The mean length of stay was 10 versus 12 days ( P < .01). In the MCP group, significantly lower rates of postoperative complications were observed and significantly more patients were institutionalized than in the UC group. Mortality within 30 days after admission was comparable between the groups (overall mortality 6%). Conclusion: An MCP approach is associated with reduced time to surgery, postoperative complications, and length of stay, without a significant difference in 30-day mortality. The institutionalization rate was significantly higher in the MCP group.

– OBJECTIVE: Phyllodes Tumor is a rare fibroepithelial breast tumor with variable malignant potential. These tumors that currently accepted nomenclature are benign, borderline and malignant according to the World Health Organization. It tends to behave in a benign way but it may undergo a malignant transformation. The purpose of this study was to present our Case load of phyllodes tumor, and evaluate the management and follow-up the behavior of these tumors. PATIENTS AND METHODS: 36 patients with phyllodes tumor were treated in Bezmialem Vakif University and Okmeydani Training and Research Hospitals analyzed retrospectively. Demographics, presenting symptoms, history, local examination, preoperative clinical diagnosis, treatment, postoperative histopatology, followup period were evaluated retrospectively and studied. RESULTS: A total of 36 patients treated for phyllodes tumor were analyzed. Mean age of the patients was 38 (14-79) and all were females. The presentation of the patients was breast lump in all cases, either as a primary or recurrent lump presentation. The right and left breast were affected 58% and 42% respectively. 34 of these 36 cases are briefly mentioned in this paper but the two cases, one with sarcomatous malignant transformation and the other with fatal metastatic phyllodes tumor in an adolescent female are discussed in detail. The mean duration of the symptomatic mass was 9.8 ± 7.3 months (range 0.5 to 24). CONCLUSIONS: Phyllodes tumor is a type of tumor that may be benign or malignant. The type with malignant features may be fatal. The tumors diagnosed as benign may transform and become malignant because of unknown reasons and may be an aggressive tumor.

AIM: The relationship between papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and accompanying Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) has been investigated extensively. However, there is no agreement among the authors. We aimed with this study to investigate this relationship in a limited subtype of PTC called papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC).

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to compare the LigaSure (R) Small Jaw Instrument (LSJI) with the conventional clamp-and-tie (CT) technique in thyroid surgery regarding complication rates (hematoma, hypocalcemia and recurrent nerve palsy), the duration of the operative procedure, and systemic and local inflammatory effects.
