Imaging spin-wave propagation in magnetic materials in a wide frequency range is crucial for understanding and applying spin-wave dynamics. Recently, nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond have attracted attention as sensors capable of quantitatively measuring the amplitude and phase of coherent spin waves. However, the conventional sensing protocol has been limited to detecting spin waves whose frequencies match the resonance frequency of the NV spins. We demonstrate that by utilizing the AC Zeeman effect, it is possible to image spin waves propagating in a yttrium iron garnet (YIG) thin film over a wide frequency range up to a maximum detuning of 567 MHz without changing the external magnetic field. Our results expand the applicability of NV centers for spin-wave sensing and pave the way for quantitative investigations of the dynamics in various magnetic materials, such as metallic ferromagnets and van der Waals magnets., Comment: 19 pages, 17 figures

The nanosized boron vacancy ($V_\mathrm{B}^-$) defect spot in hexagonal boron nitride ($h$-BN) is promising for a local magnetic field quantum sensor. One of its advantages is that a helium-ion microscope can make a spot at any location in an $h$-BN flake with nanometer accuracy. In this study, we investigate the properties of the created nanosized $V_\mathrm{B}^-$ defect spots by systematically varying three conditions: the helium-ion dose, the thickness of the $h$-BN flakes, and the substrate on which the $h$-BN flakes are attached. The physical background of the results obtained is successfully interpreted using Monte Carlo calculations. Spin chirality in antiferromagnets offers new opportunities for spintronics. The kagome antiferromagnet Mn3Sn is a paradigmatic material in which the antiferromagnetic order parameter can be detected and controlled by electrical means. However, direct investigation of the magnetic texture of Mn3Sn has been challenging because of the tiny moment hosted in its magnetic octupole, hindering further clarification of this unique material. Here, we address this issue by observing the stray magnetic field from Mn3Sn using a diamond quantum scanning magnetometer. The spatially-resolved intrinsic domains and domain walls in a high-quality single-crystalline Mn3Sn film quantitatively reveal the polarization angle of the magnetic octupole in the kagome plane, the domain's local magnetization, the domain wall's width and chirality, and the octupole order in domain walls. Quantum diamond microscopy (QDM), which employs nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center ensembles, is a promising approach to quantitatively imaging magnetic fields with both high resolution that approaches the diffraction limit and a wide field of view. The commonly adopted setups of QDM capture the photoluminescence through transparent diamonds, which inevitably entail aberrations -- optical errors that degrade the optical resolution and contrast of the obtainable image. In this study, we delve into the impact of optical aberrations, focusing on their dependence on diamond thickness. We first introduce a rigorous model [Richards et al., Braat et al.] of diffraction that incorporates aberrations, producing the NV center optical image. We confirm that this model accurately reproduces the confocal images of single NV centers obtained at various depths in diamonds. Extending this model to a wide-field microscope, we find that the model also accurately reproduces the USAF 1951 resolution test chart obtained through diamonds of various thicknesses. Based on these investigations, we quantitatively assess the consequent resolution constraints and propose thinning the diamond as a viable solution. We present a robust method to quantitatively ascertain resolution in optical systems influenced by aberrations caused by ray transmission through diamonds. For instance, for a typical microscope with an objective lens of NA = 0.7, the diffraction limit is achievable through diamonds that are 30 {\mu}m thick, and a resolution of 1 {\mu}m is obtained through diamonds that are 100 {\mu}m thick. Those results opens up avenues for enhanced performance in QDM.

There has been growing interest in studying hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) for quantum technologies. Here, we investigate nitrogen isotope effects on boron vacancy (V$_\text{B}$) defects, one of the candidates for quantum sensors, in $^{15}$N isotopically enriched hBN synthesized using a metathesis reaction. The Raman shifts are scaled with the reduced mass, consistent with previous work on boron isotope enrichment. We obtain nitrogen isotopic composition-dependent magnetic resonance spectra of V$_\text{B}$ defects and determine the magnitude of the hyperfine interaction parameter of $^{15}$N spin to be 64 MHz. Our investigation provides a design policy for hBNs for quantum sensing.

Nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamonds are a powerful tool for accurate magnetic field measurements. The key is precisely estimating the field-dependent splitting width of the optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) spectra of the NV centers. In this study, we investigate the optical power dependence of the ODMR spectra using NV ensemble in nanodiamonds (NDs) and a single-crystal bulk diamond. We find that the splitting width exponentially decays and is saturated as the optical power increases. Comparison between NDs and a bulk sample shows that while the decay amplitude is sample-dependent, the optical power at which the decay saturates is almost sample-independent. We propose that this unexpected phenomenon is an intrinsic property of the NV center due to non-axisymmetry deformation or impurities. Geometric effects can play a pivotal role in streamlining quantum manipulation. We demonstrate a geometric diabatic control, that is, perfect tunneling between spin states in a diamond by a quadratic sweep of a driving field. The field sweep speed for the perfect tunneling is determined by the geometric amplitude factor and can be tuned arbitrarily. Our results are obtained by testing a quadratic version of Berry's twisted Landau-Zener model. This geometric tuning is robust over a wide parameter range. Our work provides a basis for quantum control in various systems, including condensed matter physics, quantum computation, and nuclear magnetic resonance.

The nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center is a promising candidate to realize practical quantum sensors with high sensitivity and high spatial resolution, even at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. In conventional high-frequency AC magnetometry with NV centers, the setup requires a pulse sequence with an appropriate time synchronization and strong microwave power. To avoid these practical difficulties, AC magnetic field sensing using continuous-wave opticallydetected magnetic resonance (CW-ODMR) was recently demonstrated. That previous study utilized radio frequency (RF) dressed states generated by the coherent interaction between the electron spin of the NV center and the RF wave. However, the drawback of this method is that the detectable frequency of the AC magnetic fields is fixed. Here, we propose and demonstrate frequency-tunable magnetic field sensing based on CW-ODMR. In the new sensing scheme, we obtain RF double-dressed states by irradiation with a RF field at two different frequencies. One creates the RF dressed states and changes the frequency of the target AC field. The other is a target AC field that induces a change in the CW-ODMR spectrum by generating the RF double-dressed states through coherent interaction with the RF dressed states. The sensitivity of our method is estimated to be comparable to or even higher than that of the conventional method based on a RF field with a single frequency. The estimated bandwidth is 7.45 MHz, higher than that of the conventional method using the RF dressed states. Our frequency-tunable magnetic field sensor based on CW-ODMR paves the way for new applications in diamond devices.

We theoretically and experimentally study the universal scaling property of the spin-1/2 Kondo state in the magnetic field dependence of bias-voltage linear conductance through a quantum dot at low temperatures. We discuss an efficient and reliable procedure to evaluate the Kondo temperature defined at the ground state from experimental or numerical data sets of the magnetic field dependence of the linear conductance or the magnetization of the quantum dot. This procedure is helpful for quantitative comparison of the theory and the experiment, and useful in Kondo-correlated systems where temperature control over a wide range is difficult, such as for cold atoms. Various techniques have been applied to visualize superconducting vortices, providing clues to their electromagnetic response. Here, we present a wide-field, quantitative imaging of the stray field of the vortices in a superconducting thin film using perfectly aligned diamond quantum sensors. Our analysis, which mitigates the influence of the sensor inhomogeneities, visualizes the magnetic flux of single vortices in YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{7-\delta}$ with an accuracy of $\pm10~\%$. The obtained vortex shape is consistent with the theoretical model, and penetration depth and its temperature dependence agree with previous studies, proving our technique's accuracy and broad applicability. This wide-field imaging, which in principle works even under extreme conditions, allows the characterization of various superconductors.

Placing a sensor close to the target at the nano-level is a central challenge in quantum sensing. We demonstrate high-spatial-resolution magnetic field imaging with a boron vacancy (V$_\text{B}^-$) defects array in hexagonal boron nitride with a few 10 nm thickness. V$_\text{B}^-$ sensor spots with a size of (100 nm)$^2$ are arranged periodically with nanoscale precision using a helium ion microscope and attached tightly to a gold wire. The sensor array allows us to visualize the magnetic field induced by the current in the wire with a spatial resolution beyond the diffraction limit. Each sensor exhibits a practical sensitivity of $73.6~\mu\text{T/Hz}^{0.5}$, suitable for quantum materials research. Precise measurement of temperature distribution and thermal behavior in microscopic regions is critical in many research fields. We demonstrate lock-in thermography using nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond nanoparticles. We successfully visualize thermal diffusion in glass coverslip and Teflon with micrometer resolution and deduce their thermal diffusivity. By spreading diamond nanoparticles over the sample surface, temperature variation can be measured directly without any physical contact, such as lead wires, making it possible to visualize the micrometer-scale thermal behavior of various materials.

The nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in a diamond is a promising platform for Floquet system. We investigate NV center's Floquet state driven by Carr-Purcell sequence in a large-amplitude AC magnetic field using the sequential readout. We observe the dynamics represented as Bessel functions up to 211th orders high in a systematic and quantitative agreement with the theoretical model. Furthermore, numerical calculations show that the effect of finite pulse duration and error limits the modulation amplitude available for Floquet engineering. Local detection of magnetic fields is crucial for characterizing nano- and micro-materials and has been implemented using various scanning techniques or even diamond quantum sensors. Diamond nanoparticles (nanodiamonds) offer an attractive opportunity to chieve high spatial resolution because they can easily be close to the target within a few 10 nm simply by attaching them to its surface. A physical model for such a randomly oriented nanodiamond ensemble (NDE) is available, but the complexity of actual experimental conditions still limits the accuracy of deducing magnetic fields. Here, we demonstrate magnetic field imaging with high accuracy of 1.8 $\mu$T combining NDE and machine learning without any physical models. We also discover the field direction dependence of the NDE signal, suggesting the potential application for vector magnetometry and improvement of the existing model. Our method further enriches the performance of NDE to achieve the accuracy to visualize mesoscopic current and magnetism in atomic-layer materials and to expand the applicability in arbitrarily shaped materials, including living organisms. We studied flux pinning in exfoliated FeTe$_{0.6}$Se$_{0.4}$ thin-film devices with a thickness $d$ from 30 to 150 nm by measuring the critical current density $J_{\mathrm{c}}$. In bulk FeTe$_{0.6}$Se$_{0.4}$, the flux pinning has been discussed in the framework of weak collective pinning, while there is little knowledge on the pinning mechanism in the thin-film region. From the thickness $d$ dependence of $J_{\mathrm{c}}$ at a fixed magnetic field of 1 T, we found that the strong pinning is dominant below $d \approx 70$ nm, while the weak collective pinning becomes more important above $d \approx 100$ nm. This crossover thickness can be explained by the theoretical model proposed by van der Beek $\textit{et al}$ [Phys. Rev. B. ${\bf 66}$, 024523 (2002)]., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures

Shot noise, originating from the discrete nature of electric charge, is generated by scattering processes. Shot-noise measurements have revealed microscopic charge dynamics in various quantum transport phenomena. In particular, beyond the single-particle picture, such measurements have proved to be powerful ways to investigate electron correlation in quantum liquids. Here, we review the recent progress of shot-noise measurements in mesoscopic physics. This review summarizes the basics of shot-noise theory based on the Landauer-B\"{u}ttiker formalism, measurement techniques used in previous studies, and several recent experiments demonstrating electron scattering processes. We then discuss three different kinds of quantum liquids, namely those formed by, respectively, the Kondo effect, the fractional quantum Hall effect, and superconductivity. Finally, we discuss current noise within the framework of nonequilibrium statistical physics and review related experiments. The current-voltage ($IV$) characteristics beyond the linear response regime of magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ) is systematically investigated. We find a clear negative correlation between the two coefficients to characterize the linear ($I$$\propto$$V$) and the lowest-order nonlinear ($I$$\propto$$V^3$) currents, which holds regardless of the temperature and the thickness of the tunnel barrier. This observation cannot simply be explained by the standard tunneling model such as the Brinkman model, suggesting a mechanism intrinsic to MTJ. We propose a phenomenological model based on the Julli\'ere model that attributes the observed negative correlation to the spin-flip tunneling assisted by a magnon. Behavior of quantum liquids is a fascinating topic in physics. Even in a strongly correlated case, the linear response of a given system to an external field is described by the fluctuation-dissipation relations based on the two-body correlations in the equilibrium. However, to explore nonlinear non-equilibrium behaviors of the system beyond this well-established regime, the role of higher order correlations starting from the three-body correlations must be revealed. In this work, we experimentally investigate a controllable quantum liquid realized in a Kondo-correlated quantum dot and prove the relevance of the three-body correlations in the nonlinear conductance at finite magnetic field, which validates the recent Fermi liquid theory extended to the non-equilibrium regime.

We show that a cryogenic amplifier composed of a homemade GaAs high-electron-mobility transistor (HEMT) is suitable for current-noise measurements in a mesoscopic device at dilution-refrigerator temperatures. The lower noise characteristics of our homemade HEMT leads to a lower noise floor in the experimental setup and enables more efficient current-noise measurement than is available with a commercial HEMT. We present the dc transport properties of the HEMT and the gain and noise characteristics of the amplifier. With the amplifier employed for current-noise measurements in a quantum point contact, we demonstrate the high resolution of the measurement setup by comparing it with that of the conventional one using a commercial HEMT., Comment: 10 pages, 13 figures

Spintronic devices using antiferromagnets (AFMs) are promising candidates for future applications. Recently, many interesting physical properties have been reported with AFM-based devices. Here we report a butterfly-shaped magnetoresistance (MR) in a micrometer-sized triangular-lattice antiferromagnet Ag$_2$CrO$_2$. The material consists of two-dimensional triangular-lattice CrO$_2$ layers with antiferromagnetically coupled $S$ = 3/2 spins and Ag$_2$ layers with high electrical conductivity. The butterfly-shaped MR appears only when the magnetic field is applied perpendicularly to the CrO$_2$ plane with the maximum MR ratio ($\approx$ 15%) at the magnetic ordering temperature. These features are distinct from those observed in conventional magnetic materials. We propose a theoretical model where fluctuations of partially disordered spins with the Ising anisotropy play an essential role in the butterfly-shaped MR in Ag$_2$CrO$_2$., Comment: 25 pages, 6 figures

We report a negative resistance, namely, a voltage drop along the opposite direction of a current flow, in the superconducting gap of NbSe$_2$ thin films under the irradiation of surface acoustic waves (SAWs). The amplitude of the negative resistance becomes larger by increasing the SAW power and decreasing temperature. As one possible scenario, we propose that soliton-antisoliton pairs in the charge density wave of NbSe$_2$ modulated by the SAW serve as a time-dependent capacitance in the superconducting state, leading to the dc negative resistance. By means of spin current, the flow of spin angular momentum, we find a regime of "spin treacle" in a frustrated magnetic system. To establish its existence, we have performed spin transport measurements in nanometer-scale spin glasses. At temperatures high enough that the magnetic moments fluctuate at high frequencies, the spin Hall angle, the conversion yield between spin current and charge current, is independent of temperature. The spin Hall angle starts to decrease at a certain temperature $T^{*}$ and completely vanishes at a lower temperature. We argue that the latter corresponds to the spin freezing temperature $T_{\rm f}$ of the nanometer-scale spin glass, where the direction of conduction electron spin is randomized by the exchange coupling with the localized moments. The present experiment \textit{quantitatively} verifies the existence of a distinct "spin treacle" between $T_{\rm f}$ and $T^{*}$. We have performed magnetotransport measurements in CeTe$_{3}$ thin films down to $0.2~{\rm K}$. It is known that CeTe$_{3}$ has two magnetic transitions at $T_{\rm N1} \approx 3~{\rm K}$ and $T_{\rm N2} \approx 1~{\rm K}$. A clear Shubnikov-de-Haas (SdH) oscillation was observed at $4~{\rm K}$, demonstrating the strong two-dimensional nature in this material. Below $T_{\rm N2}$, the SdH oscillation has two frequencies, indicating that the Fermi surface could be slightly modulated due to the second magnetic transition. We also observed a magnetic hysteresis in the SdH oscillation below $T_{\rm N1}$. Especially, there is a unique spike in the magnetoresistance at $B \approx 0.6~{\rm T}$ only when the magnetic field is swept from a high enough field (more than $2~{\rm T}$) to zero field., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in Applied Physics Letters

Single electron sources have been studied as a device to establish an electric current standard for 30 years and recently as an on-demand coherent source for Fermion quantum optics. In order to construct the single electron source on a GaAs/AlGaAs two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG), it is often necessary to fabricate a sub-micron wire by etching. We have established techniques to make the wire made of the fragile 2DEG by combining photolithography and electron beam lithography with one-step photoresist coating, which enables us to etch fine and coarse structures simultaneously. It has been demonstrated that a single electron source fabricated on the narrow wire pumps fixed number of electrons per one cycle with radio frequency. The fabrication technique improves the lithography process with lower risk to damage the 2DEG and is applicable to etching of other materials and dry etching., Comment: 3 pages, 3 figures

We investigate the spectral characteristics of spin torque oscillator (STO) excited by the spin Hall-induced spin current. We observe that the modest spin current injection triggers the conventional single peak oscillating behavior of STO. As the spin current is further increased to enter the non-linear regime, we find the transition of the spectrum from a single peak to multipeak structure whose frequency spacing is constant. This behavior can be primarily explained by the extremely broadened peak of the STO, which is accompanied by the frequency-dependent filtering by the transmission line. To explain the observation more quantitatively, we also discuss that the multipeak may reflect the characteristics of the intrinsic dynamics of STO in the non-linear regime., Comment: 15 pages, 3 figures

A numerical investigation is conducted for a single spin-torque oscillator under the non-linear region. A large angle precession triggers the generation of multiple modes without any feedbacked circuits and/or magnetic couplings with neighboring oscillators. Our simulations show that a single eigenmode of a given spin-torque oscillator can trigger up to six discrete modes as the sideband modes. We study finite-temperature properties of the Kondo effect in a carbon nanotube (CNT) quantum dot using the Wilson numerical renormalization group (NRG). In the absence of magnetic fields, four degenerate energy levels of the CNT consisting of spin and orbital degrees of freedom give rise to the SU(4) Kondo effect. We revisit the universal scaling behavior of the SU(4) conductance for quarter- and half-filling in a wide temperature range. We find that the filling dependence of the universal scaling behavior at low temperatures $T$ can be explained clearly with an extended Fermi-liquid theory. This theory clarifies that a $T^{2}$ coefficient of conductance becomes zero at quarter-filling whereas the coefficient at half-filling is finite. We also study a field-induced crossover from the SU(4) to SU(2) Kondo state observed at the half-filled CNT dot. The crossover is caused by the matching of the spin and orbital Zeeman splittings, which lock two levels among the four at the Fermi level even in magnetic fields $B$. We find that the conductance shows the SU($4$) scaling behavior at $\mu_{B}B

Most of the time, electronic excitations in mesoscopic conductors are well described, around equilibrium, by non-interacting Landau quasi-particles. This allows a good understanding of the transport properties in the linear regime. However, the role of interaction in the non-equilibrium properties beyond this regime has still to be established. A paradigmatic example is the Kondo many body state, which can be realized in a carbon nanotube (CNT) quantum dot for temperatures below the Kondo temperature $T_K$. As CNT possess spin and orbital quantum numbers, it is possible to investigate the twofold degenerate SU(2) Kondo effect as well as the four fold degenerate SU(4) state by tuning the degeneracies and filling factor. This article aims at providing a comprehensive review on our recent works on the Kondo correlations probed by quantum noise measurement both at low and high frequencies and demonstrate how current noise measurements yield new insight on interaction effects and dynamics of a Kondo correlated state., Comment: 34 pages and appendix

Kondo correlations are responsible for the emergence of a zero-bias peak in the low temperature differential conductance of Coulomb blockaded quantum dots. In the presence of a global SU(2)$\otimes$SU(2) symmetry, which can be realized in carbon nanotubes, they also inhibit inelastic transitions which preserve the Kramers pseudospins associated to the symmetry. We report on magnetotransport experiments on a Kondo correlated carbon nanotube where resonant features at the bias corresponding to the pseudospin-preserving transitions are observed. We attribute this effect to a simultaneous enhancement of pseudospin-non-preserving transitions occurring at that bias. This process is boosted by asymmetric tunneling couplings of the two Kramers doublets to the leads and by asymmetries in the potential drops at the leads. The sensitivity of shot noise to the interplay between Kondo correlations and superconductivity is investigated in a carbon nanotube quantum dot connected to superconducting electrodes. Depending on the gate voltage, the SU(2) and SU(4) Kondo unitary regimes can be clearly identified. We observe enhancement of the shot noise via the Fano factor in the superconducting state. Its divergence at low bias voltage, which is more pronounced in the SU(4) regime than in the SU(2) one, is larger than what is expected from proliferation of multiple Andreev reflections predicted by the existing theories. Our result suggests that Kondo effect is responsible for this strong enhancement.

We report a precise experimental study on the shot noise of a quantum point contact (QPC) fabricated in a GaAs/AlGaAs based high-mobility two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG). The combination of unprecedented cleanliness and very high measurement accuracy has enabled us to discuss the Fano factor to characterize the shot noise with a precision of 1 %. We observed that the shot noise at zero magnetic field exhibits a slight enhancement exceeding the single particle theoretical prediction, and that it gradually decreases as a perpendicular magnetic field is applied. We also confirmed that this additional noise completely vanishes in the quantum Hall regime. These phenomena can be explained by the electron heating effect near the QPC, which is suppressed with increasing magnetic field., Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures

Mesoscopic systems -- small electric circuits working in quantum regime -- offer us a unique experimental stage to explorer quantum transport in a tunable and precise way. The purpose of this Review is to show how they can contribute to statistical physics. We introduce the significance of fluctuation, or equivalently noise, as noise measurement enables us to address the fundamental aspects of a physical system. The significance of the fluctuation theorem (FT) in statistical physics is noted. We explain what information can be deduced from the current noise measurement in mesoscopic systems. As an important application of the noise measurement to statistical physics, we describe our experimental work on the current and current noise in an electron interferometer, which is the first experimental test of FT in quantum regime. Universal properties of entangled many-body states are controlled by their symmetry and quantum fluctuations. By magnetic-field tuning of the spin-orbital degeneracy in a Kondo-correlated quantum dot, we have modified quantum fluctuations to directly measure their influence on the many-body properties along the crossover from $SU(4)$ to $SU(2)$ symmetry of the ground state. High-sensitive current noise measurements combined with the non-equilibrium Fermi liquid theory clarify that the Kondo resonance and electron correlations are enhanced as the fluctuations, measured by the Wilson ratio, increase along the symmetry crossover. Pure spin current is a powerful tool for manipulating spintronic devices, and its dynamical behavior is an important issue. By using mesoscopic transport theory for electron tunneling induced by spin accumulation, we investigate the dynamics of the spin current in the high-frequency quantum regime, where the frequency is much larger than temperature and bias voltage. Besides the thermal noise, frequency-dependent finite noise emerges, signaling the spin current across the tunneling barrier. We also find that the autocorrelation of the spin current exhibits sinusoidal oscillation in time as a consequence of the Pauli exclusion principle even without any net charge current., Comment: 18 pages, 3 figures

We have discovered a novel candidate for a spin liquid state in a ruthenium oxide composed of dimers of $S = $ 3/2 spins of Ru$^{5+}$,Ba$_3$ZnRu$_2$O$_9$. This compound lacks a long range order down to 37 mK, which is a temperature 5000-times lower than the magnetic interaction scale of around 200 K. Partial substitution for Zn can continuously vary the magnetic ground state from an antiferromagnetic order to a spin-gapped state through the liquid state. This indicates that the spin-liquid state emerges from a delicate balance of inter- and intra-dimer interactions, and the spin state of the dimer plays a vital role. We theoretically study an emergent SU(2) symmetry which is suggested by recent magneto-transport measurements, carried out near two electrons filling of a carbon nanotube quantum dot. It emerges in the case where the spin and orbital Zeeman splittings cancel each other out for two of the one-particle dot levels among four. Using the Wilson numerical renormalization group, we show that a crossover from the SU(4) to SU(2) Fermi-liquid behavior occurs at two impurity-electrons filling as magnetic field increases. We also find that the quasiparticles are significantly renormalized as the remaining two one-particle levels move away from the Fermi level and are frozen at high magnetic fields. In order to clarify how the ground state evolves during such a crossover, we also reexamine the SU(N) Kondo singlet state for M impurity-electrons filling in the limit of strong exchange interactions. We show that the nondegenerate Fermi-liquid fixed point of Nozi\`{e}es and Blandin can be described as a bosonic Perron-Frobenius vector for M hard-core bosons, each of which consists of one impurity-electron and one conduction hole. We report the experimental observation of Snell's law for magneto-static spin waves in thin ferromagnetic Permalloy films by imaging incident, refracted and reflected waves. We use a thickness step as the interface between two media with different dispersion relation. Since the dispersion relation for magneto-static waves in thin ferromagnetic films is anisotropic, deviations from the isotropic Snell's law known in optics are observed for incidence angles larger than 25\textdegree{} with respect to the interface normal between the two magnetic media. Furthermore, we can show that the thickness step modifies the wavelength and the amplitude of the incident waves. Our findings open up a new way of spin wave steering for magnonic applications.

We investigate the noise in single layer graphene devices from equilibrium to far from equilibrium and found that the 1/f noise shows an anomalous dependence on the source-drain bias voltage (VSD). While the Hooge relation is not the case around the charge neutrality point, we found that it is recovered at very low VSD region. We propose that the depinning of the electron-hole puddles is induced at finite VSD, which may explain this anomalous noise behavior.

We have prepared polycrystalline samples of the trimer Ir oxide BaIrO3 with face-shared Ir3O12 trimers, and have investigated the origin of the phase transition at 182 K by measuring resistivity, thermopower, magnetization and synchrotron x-ray diffraction. We propose a possible electronic model and transition mechanism, starting from a localized electron picture on the basis of the Rietveld refinement. Within this model, BaIrO3 can be basically regarded as a Mott insulator, when the Ir3O12 trimer is identified to one pseudo-atom or one lattice site. Interacting quantum many-body systems constitute a fascinating playground for researchers since they form quantum liquids with correlated ground states and low-lying excitations, which exhibit universal behaviour. In fermionic systems, such quantum liquids are realized in helium-3 liquid, heavy fermion systems, neutron stars and cold gases. Their properties in the linear-response regime have been successfully described by the theory of Fermi liquids. However, non-equilibrium properties beyond this regime have still to be established and remain a key issue of many-body physics. Here, we show a precise experimental demonstration of Landau Fermi-liquid theory extended to the non-equilibrium regime in a 0-D system. Combining transport and ultra-sensitive current noise measurements, we have unambiguously identified the SU(2) and SU(4) symmetries of quantum liquid in a carbon nanotube tuned in the universal Kondo regime. We find that, while the electronic transport is well described by the free quasi-particle picture around equilibrium, a two-particle scattering process due to residual interaction shows up in the non-equilibrium regime. By using the extended Fermi-liquid theory, we obtain the interaction parameter "Wilson ratio" $R=1.9 \pm 0.1$ for SU(2) and $R=1.35 \pm 0.1$ for SU(4) as well as the corresponding effective charges, characterizing the quantum liquid behaviour. This result, in perfect agreement with theory, provides a strong quantitative experimental background for further developments of the many-body physics. Moreover, we discovered a new scaling law for the effective charge, signalling as-yet-unknown universality in the non-equilibrium regime. We have prepared polycrystalline samples of LaSrRh$_{1-x}$Ga$_x$O$_4$ and LaSr$_{1-x}$Ca$_x$RhO$_4$,and have measured the x-ray diffraction, resistivity, Seebeck coefficient, magnetization and electron spin resonance in order to evaluate their electronic states. The energy gap evaluated from the resistivity and the Seebeck coefficient systematically changes with the Ga concentration, and suggests that the system changes from a small polaron insulator to a band insulator. We find that all the samples show Curie-Weiss-like susceptibility with a small Weiss temperature of the order of 1 K, which is seriously incompatible with the collective wisdom that a trivalent rhodium ion is nonmagnetic. We have determined the $g$ factor to be $g$=2.3 from the electron spin resonance, and the spin number to be $S$=1 from the magnetization-field curves by fitting with a modified Brillouin function. The fraction of the $S$=1 spins is 2--5%, which depends on the degree of disorder in the La/Sr/Ca-site, which implies that disorder near the apical oxygen is related to the magnetism of this system. When an electric current passes across a potential barrier, the partition process of electrons at the barrier gives rise to the shot noise, reflecting the discrete nature of the electric charge. Here we report the observation of excess shot noise connected with a spin current which is induced by a nonequilibrium spin accumulation in an all-semiconductor lateral spin-valve device. We find that this excess shot noise is proportional to the spin current. Additionally, we determine quantitatively the spin-injection-induced electron temperature by measuring the current noise. We report on conductance fluctuation in quasi-one-dimensional wires made of epitaxial Bi$_{2}$Se$_{3}$ thin film. We found that this type of fluctuation decreases as the wire length becomes longer and that the amplitude of the fluctuation is well scaled to the coherence, thermal diffusion, and wire lengths, as predicted by conventional universal conductance fluctuation (UCF) theory. Additionally, the amplitude of the fluctuation can be understood to be equivalent to the UCF amplitude of a system with strong spin-orbit interaction and no time-reversal symmetry. These results indicate that the conductance fluctuation in Bi$_{2}$Se$_{3}$ wires is explainable through UCF theory. This work is the first to verify the scaling relationship of UCF in a system with strong spin-orbit interaction.
