A molecular dynamics study of the monolayer Ar atomic film adsorbed on the outer surface of single-walled (10, 10) carbon nanotube has been undertaken and the vibrational spectra of this system have been determined. Recently, Dawid and Gburski (Phys. Rev. A, 68 (2003), 065202) have studied the molecular dynamics of a system consisting of a C60 molecule surrounded by a monolayer argon film and determined the interaction induced polarizability correlation function and the depolarized light scattering spectra of this system. Objective: To detect stress in newborns by observing heart rate (HR) variability utilizing an asymmetric detrended fluctuation analysis (ADFA), we sought to determine the fractal structure of the series of inter-beat intervals, so as to distinguish the periods of acceleration of the HR from decelerations. Thus, two scaling exponents, α + and α - , representing decelerations and accelerations respectively, are obtained., Approach: Forty healthy term newborns were included in this study, undergoing two different types of stress stimuli: routine heel lance blood sampling for metabolic screening purposes, and its simulation by applying dull pressure on the heel., Main Results: It appears that when newborns face stress, the scaling exponent related to accelerations significantly increases and becomes higher than the deceleration scaling exponent. To test the diagnostic properties of the scaling exponents, an ROC curve analysis was applied; α - showed good diagnostic performance with an AUC between 0.626 and 0.826, depending on the length of the time series. The joint use of α + and α - further increased the diagnostic performance, in particular for shorter series of RR intervals, with an AUC between 0.691 and 0.833., Significance: ADFA, particularly of the acceleration scaling exponent, may be a useful clinical diagnostic tool for monitoring neonatal stress.

Background: MiStent is a drug-eluting stent with a fully absorbable polymer coating containing and embedding a microcrystalline form of sirolimus into the vessel wall. It was developed to overcome the limitation of current durable polymer drug-eluting stents eluting amorphous sirolimus. The clinical effect of MiStent sirolimus-eluting stent compared with a durable polymer drug-eluting stents has not been investigated in a large randomised trial in an all-comer population., Methods: We did a randomised, single-blind, multicentre, phase 3 study (DESSOLVE III) at 20 hospitals in Germany, France, Netherlands, and Poland. Eligible participants were any patients aged at least 18 years who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention in a lesion and had a reference vessel diameter of 2·50-3·75 mm. We randomly assigned patients (1:1) to implantation of either a sirolimus-eluting bioresorbable polymer stent (MiStent) or an everolimus-eluting durable polymer stent (Xience). Randomisation was done by local investigators via web-based software with random blocks according to centre. The primary endpoint was a non-inferiority comparison of a device-oriented composite endpoint (DOCE)-cardiac death, target-vessel myocardial infarction, or clinically indicated target lesion revascularisation-between the groups at 12 months after the procedure assessed by intention-to-treat. A margin of 4·0% was defined for non-inferiority of the MiStent group compared with the Xience group. All participants were included in the safety analyses. This trial is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, number NCT02385279., Findings: Between March 20, and Dec 3, 2015, we randomly assigned 1398 patients with 2030 lesions; 703 patients with 1037 lesions were assigned to MiStent, of whom 697 received the index procedure, and 695 patients with 993 lesions were asssigned to Xience, of whom 690 received the index procedure. At 12 months, the primary endpoint had occurred in 40 patients (5·8%) in the sirolimus-eluting stent group and in 45 patients (6·5%) in the everolimus-eluting stent group (absolute difference -0·8% [95% CI -3·3 to 1·8], p non-inferiority =0·0001). Procedural complications occurred in 12 patients (1·7%) in the sirolimus-eluting stent group and ten patients (1·4%) in the everolimus-eluting stent group; no clinical adverse events could be attributed to these dislodgements through a minimum of 12 months of follow-up. The rate of stent thrombosis, a safety indicator, did not differ between groups and was low in both treatment groups., Interpretation: The sirolimus-eluting bioabsorbable polymer stent was non-inferior to the everolimus-eluting durable polymer stent for a device-oriented composite clinical endpoint at 12 months in an all-comer population. Sample Entropy (SampEn) is a popular method for assessing the unpredictability of biological signals. Its calculation requires to preliminarily set the tolerance threshold r and the embedding dimension m. Even if most studies select m=2 and r=0.2 times the signal standard deviation, this choice is somewhat arbitrary. Effects of different r and m values on SampEn have been rarely assessed, because of the high computational burden of this task. Recently, however, a fast algorithm for estimating correlation sums (Norm Component Matrix, NCM) has been proposed that allows calculating SampEn quickly over wide ranges of r and m. The aim of our work is to describe the structure of SampEn of physiological signals with different complex dynamics as a function of m and r and in relation to the correlation sum. In particular, we investigate whether the criterion of "maximum entropy" for selecting r previously proposed for Approximate Entropy, also applies to SampEn; and whether information from correlation sums provides indications for the choice of r and m. For this aim we applied the NCM algorithm on electromyographic and mechanomyographic signals during isometric muscle contraction, estimating SampEn over wide ranges of r (0.01 ≤ r ≤ 5) and m (from 1 to 11). Results indicate that the "maximum entropy" criterion to select r in Approximate Entropy cannot be applied to SampEn. However, the analysis of correlation sums alternatively suggests to choose r that at any m maximizes the number of "escaping vectors", i.e., data points effectively contributing to the SampEn estimation.

Background: It has been shown that, among patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), diabetes is associated with a significantly higher mortality. The aim of this study was to investigate in a large cohort of patients the impact of diabetes on mortality in a large cohort of patients with STEMI treated with primary angioplasty., Methods: Our population is represented by consecutive patients with STEMI treated by primary angioplasty and enrolled in the POLISH registry in 2003. All clinical, angiographic, and follow-up data were prospectively collected. Diagnosis of diabetes was based on history of diabetes at admission., Results: Among 7193 patients, 877 (12.2%) had diabetes at admission. Diabetes was associated with more advanced age (p<0.0001), higher prevalence of female gender (p<0.0001), hyperlipidemia (p<0.0001), shock at presentation (p<0.0001), renal failure (p<0.0001), previous myocardial infarction (p<0.0001), more often treated after 6h from symptom onset (p<0.0001). Diabetes was associated with more extensive coronary artery disease (p<0.0001), less often treated with stenting (p<0.0001). Diabetes was significantly associated with impaired epicardial reperfusion (TIMI 0-2: OR [95% CI]=1.81 [1.5-2.18], p<0.0001), that persisted after correction for baseline confounding factors (OR [95% CI]=1.33 [1.075-1.64], p=0.009). At a mean follow-up of 524+/-194 days, diabetes was associated with higher mortality (unadjusted cumulative mortality: 23.5% vs. 12.6%, unadjusted HR=1.95 [1.66-2.3], p<0.0001), that persisted after correction for confounding factors (adjusted cumulative mortality: 13.3% vs. 10.7%, adjusted HR=1.23 [1.04-1.46], p=0.013)., Conclusions: This study shows that among STEMI treated by primary angioplasty diabetes is independently associated with impaired epicardial reperfusion and higher mortality., (Copyright (c) 2010 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. Objectives: The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a biodegradable polymer coated, paclitaxel eluting stent (Luc-Chopin(2)) based on 9-months angiographic and 12-months clinical follow-up results., Background: First-generation drug-eluting stents utilize nonbioabsorbable polymeric coatings, whose persistent presence in the arterial wall may negatively affect long-term outcomes. Bioabsorbable coatings with a degradation period matched to that of the drug elution may be a better alternative, clinically and economically., Methods: We conducted a prospective, multicenter first-in-man registry of a novel, locally developed, bioabsorbable-coated, paclitaxel-eluting coronary stent in 116 patients with single-lesion de novo coronary disease., Results: Major adverse cardiac events occurred in 7.8% patients within 12 months. There were no late thrombotic events, death, stroke, or surgical revascularization in that period. There were two myocardial infarctions, one related to recent subacute stent thrombosis and another associated with restenosis. By 12 months, target vessel revascularization was performed in 7.8%; 2.9% were ischemia-driven and the rest were mandated at 9 months in accordance with a control angiography protocol. Core-lab assessed binary in-stent restenosis (> or =50% DS) was noted in 11.9% patients and mean late loss was 0.46 +/- 0.47 mm., Conclusions: This first-in-man experience obtained in a multicenter registry of real-world de novo lesions (almost half of lesions were class B2 or C by AHA classification) showed a favorable safety profile and acceptable efficacy through 12 months. Randomized comparison with a benchmark nonbioabsorbable polymer coated paclitaxel eluting stent should be undertaken to validate this initial positive experience., (Copyright 2008 Wiley-Liss, Inc.)

Background: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is one of the main causes of death in the elderly, however, the optimal therapy of AMI in this age-group has not yet been established., Aim: To compare the early outcome of patients with AMI aged > or =75 years who underwent primary percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) or were treated conservatively., Methods: In-hospital outcome of 180 patients aged > or =75 years, hospitalised due to AMI, was retrospectively analysed. Ninety two consecutive patients, admitted with AMI between May 2001 and October 2002, underwent primary PCI whereas 88 patients, treated for AMI between 1993 and 2002, received standard pharmacological therapy without thrombolysis., Conclusions: Primary PCI in the elderly with AMI is significantly more effective than conservative therapy, except with patients with cardiogenic shock in whom mortality is similar regardless of the therapy used.

Objective: The objectives of this study was to evaluate chemotherapy, GnRH analogues and radiotherapy as adjuvant treatment in advanced epithelial ovarian carcinoma., Materials and Methods: It was a retrospective analysis. 69 patients with stage III and IV epithelial ovarian carcinoma after maximal debulking surgery received adjuvant chemotherapy with cyclophosphamide and cisplatin or carboplatin (6-9 course). Additionally some of them were treated with radiotherapy or/and GnRH agonists. In relation to treatment patients were divided into 4 groups: I--received chemotherapy + GnRH agonist + radiotherapy, II--chemotherapy + GnRH agonist, III--chemotherapy + radiotherapy and IV--chemotherapy. Statistical analysis was based on nonparametric U-Mann-Whitney test. Survival analysis performed with Kaplan-Meyer method., Results: We found statistical differences in overall survival, 5-years survival and overall complete response rate between the group treated with only chemotherapy and groups the also received radiotherapy or/and GnRH analogues., Conclusion: Combination treatment in advanced epithelial ovarian cancer seems to be a reasonable way of therapeutic management. Radiotherapy and GnRH agonists with chemotherapy are effective consolidation therapy for stage III and IV ovarian cancer.

Background: In survivors of acute myocardial infarction (AMI), an occluded infarct-related artery (IRA) is an important predictor of cardiac death (CD) and sudden death (SD). Early reperfusion of the IRA was associated with improved survival rate. The purpose of the present study was to assess if late IRA revascularization, performed 10-30 days after AMI, also has a beneficial effect on the incidence of CD and SD during an 18-month follow-up., Material/methods: The study population consisted of 93 post-MI patients with occluded IRA on coronary angiography. The patients were divided into 2 groups according to IRA status at discharge -- revascularized (47 patients) or occluded (46 patients) -- and followed. Before revascularization, the two groups of patients did not differ in the prevalence of clinical and angiographic variables, or in the incidence of risk factors for SD. In patients who underwent angioplasty or bypass graft surgery of closed IRA, the markers of electrical instability demonstrated no significant improvement after revascularization., Results: During the 18-month follow-up a significantly lower incidence of CD (0% vs 15%, p<0.01) and SD (0% vs 11%, p<0.03) was observed in the group of patients with revascularized IRA than in the group of patients with occluded IRA., Conclusions: In survivors of AMI, late reperfusion of occluded IRA is associated with reduced 18-month cardiac mortality. The beneficial effect of this procedure on the incidence of sudden death, not associated with improvement in myocardial electrical stability, suggests that ischemia can be considered an important factor modulating the arrhythmogenic substrate.

Background: Previous randomized trials have shown beneficial effects of coronary stenting on restenosis and event-free survival rates. However, it has not yet been fully established if routine high-pressure stenting with an antiplatelet regimen can show similar results., Methods: We compared the 6-month angiographic restenosis rate and 2-year event-free survival rate in 400 patients randomly assigned to stent or angioplasty. Aspirin and ticlopidine were prescribed in both groups., Results: The procedural success rate did not significantly differ between the stent and angioplasty groups (97.92% vs 97.45%, P = not significant). No stent thrombosis was found. The 6-month restenosis rate was lower in the stent group (18. 18% vs 24.87%, P =.055). At 2 years target lesion revascularization rate was 17.19% in the stent group and 25.51% in the angioplasty group (P =.02, 33% reduction). No significant differences with regard to death and myocardial infarction were observed. Event-free survival rate at 6, 12, and 24 months was 86.77% vs 78.84%, 84.13% vs 76.70%, and 83.07% vs 73.54% for stent and angioplasty groups, respectively (P =.0172)., Conclusions: The 6-month angiographic and 2-year clinical outcomes were better in patients who received stent than in those after balloon angioplasty. The difference in 2-year event-free survival rate was explained by a reduction in target lesion revascularization rate in the stent group.

The aim of the study was to assess the correlations between the levels of sex hormones and blood lipid profile as well as indexes of coronary artery stenosis in men with angiographically documented coronary artery disease. 111 men, aged 36-73 yrs (av. 55) were studied. In all the patients levels of testosterone (T), dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S), estradiol (E), SHBG, LH and FSH were measured. The level of bioavailable testosterone (BT) was calculated knowing SHBG level. Total cholesterol (TCh), HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and triglycerides (TG) levels were estimated as well as the degree of coronary artery stenosis was estimated by means of modified indexes. For statistics R-Spearman test was used. Summing coronary stenosis index correlated significantly with T-Ch and LDL-Ch levels. Positive correlation was found between blood level of E and TCh as well as between E and LDL-Ch. BT correlated partially with LDL-Ch level. No correlations were found between the levels of T, SHBG, DHEA-S, FSH, LH and lipid profile. The level of DHEA-s revealed negative correlation with age, while the level of SHBG increased with ageing leading to the decrease of the value of BT but not total T. None of studied hormones correlated with coronary indexes. Our results suggest that estradiol and BT may promote the formation of atherogenic lipid profile leading to atherosclerosis in men.

QT interval prolongation is discussed as a possible risk factor of dangerous arrhythmias. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of different interventional treatment of coronary artery disease in patients after myocardial infarction on QT interval duration. Two groups of patients were analyzed. The first group (G1) consisted of 37 patients in whom PTCA was performed; the second group (G2)--42 pts after surgical myocardial revascularisation (CABG). The 24-hour electrocardiography monitoring was performed in all the patients. Results were analyzed especially considering the average daily values of QT, QTp, QTc and RR duration. In patients after CABG we observed statistically significant prolongation of QTc interval duration what was not noticeable in patients after PTCA. The cardiosurgical procedure of coronary by-pass grafting in patients with coronary artery disease after the myocardial infarction in contrary of PTCA may lead to significant prolongation of QTc interval duration. This problem needs further investigation.

Unlabelled: The aim of this study was to compare the results of ECG exercise test performed before and after oral administration of nitroglycerine (NTG) in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD), and patients with typical chest pain without any changes in coronary arteriography--syndrome X. We examined 98 patients with typical chest pain, positive result of ECG exercise test, then accordingly to results of coronary arteries assessed with coronary arteriography, patients (pts.) were divided into two groups: group 1--35 pts. without any changes in coronary arteriography--syndrome X, and group 2--48 pts. with significant stenosis present in one or more coronary vessels. Each patient underwent two ECG exercise tests: first without any medication and second performed average 30 minutes after first test, and 5 min after oral administration of 1 table of nitroglycerine. During both tests the following parameters were evaluated: test duration, presence of chest pain, max. ST-T changes, heart rate (HR), and systolic blood pressure (SBP)., Results: In group 1 after NTG time of test duration had shortened from 5.9 +/- 0.4 min to 5.7 +/- 0.6 min. We also observed an increase in max. ST-T complex depression (2.2 +/- 0.5 mm vs 2.4 +/- 0.4 mm) but these differences were not statistically significant. In CAD group, duration of test after NTG was longer (6.2 +/- 1 vs 7.4 +/- 1.2), and normalization of max. ST-T complex depressions (2.7 +/- 0.5 vs 2.0 +/- 0.3 mm) was observed p < 0.01., Conclusion: Our study suggests that ECG exercise test with NTG may be useful in differentiation of patients with syndrome X and patients with typical coronary artery disease.

In 14 patients with stable angina pectoris we examined the effect of pentoxifyline (PTX) on oxidative metabolism of TNF-alpha-priming neutrophils. The control group consisted of 21 patients with stable angina pectoris without pentoxifylline administration. Blood samples for examination were taken from basilic vein (peripheral blood) and coronary sinus immediately before PTCA procedure. In PTX-group was found the significant decrease in spontaneous CL of TNF-alpha-priming neutrophils from coronary sinus blood (1231.0 +/- 119.4 mV x min), in comparison to the control group (1374 +/- 124.4 mV x min). In PTX-group was found the significant decrease in fMLP stimulated CL of TNF-alpha-priming neutrophils from peripheral blood (4219.0 +/- 707.2 mV x min) and coronary sinus blood (4322.0 +/- 664.4 mV x min), in comparison to the control group (5248.0 +/- 595.8 mV x min and 4973.0 +/- 536.5 mV x min; respectively). There were no differences between both groups in PMA stimulated CL of TNF-alpha-priming neutrophils.

Unlabelled: The aim of the study was to compare the perfusion scintigraphy (using SPECT method with Tc-99-MIBI) during left atrial transoesophageal pacing test (LAPT) with pacing electrocardiography (ECG), echocardiography (ECHO) and electrocardiography exercise test (ExT) in ischaemic heart disease (IHD) diagnostics. The effect of LATP on heart haemodynamic parameters and the correlation between scintigraphic, echocardiographic and electrocardiographic parameters during LAPT test have been also assessed. Investigations were carried out in 55 subjects (Group I: 36 patients with effort angina pectoris; group II: controls: 19 clinically healthy subjects). Coronarography was performed in 24 patients 6 weeks before or after examinations. LATP test was analyzed with ECG, ECHO and SPECT. Echocardiography did not increase significantly the LATP test diagnostic value. Perfusion scintigraphy enhanced sensitivity and predictive excluding value LATP test. These values were 93.3% v 62.9% and 90% v 59.3% respectively. LATP test assessed with ECG, ECHO and perfusion scintigraphy expressed significantly higher sensitivity and predicting excluding value in comparison to ExT. LATP test analyzed in such way was characterized by 100% sensitivity and 100% predicting excluding value., Conclusion: Combination of LATP with electrocardiography, echocardiography and SPECT is a non-invasive high quality method for ischaemic heart disease diagnostics.

We estimated adherence, aggregation and chemiluminescence of neutrophils as well as concentrations of C3c, C4 and C5 complement components and complement haemolytic activity (CH50) in 27 patients with unstable angina pectoris subjected to percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA). The control group consisted of 12 patients with unstable angina pectoris, in whom coronary angiography was performed but PTCA was decided against for various reasons. Blood samples for examination were taken from coronary sinus and peripheral vein just before, 1 min and 20 min after PTCA or coronary angiography. We observed enhancement of neutrophil adherence, aggregation and chemiluminescence, and decrease in concentrations of C3c, C5 and complement haemolytic activity (CH50) after PTCA procedure. In conclusion we think that ischemia resulting from PTCA causes complement activation in an alternative pathway which seems to be connected with neutrophil activation.

Unlabelled: PTCA was introduced into our hospital in June 1991. Since then till the end of 1996 emergency CABG operations were performed in fourteen patients. They were indicated because of acute myocardial ischaemia and hemodynamic deterioration that was the result of the dissection and occlusion of a coronary artery during angioplasty. There were 11 male and 3 female patients in this group aged 34 to 65 average 50 years. Twenty-three grafts were performed in total (18 saphenous, 5 using internal mammary artery), that is 1.6 graft per patient. A female patient died of myocardial infarction on the first postoperative day. All other patients survived and are under outpatient clinic's care. Over the analysed 6 years' period of time 1079 PTCAs were performed. The low rate of the unsuccessful procedures (1.3%) that required the emergency CABG is noteworthy. Since 1995, when the implantation of stents was introduced into our hospital, there were only 2 such procedures (0.4% of all PTCAs)., Conclusions: The CABG operation performed shortly after a dissection and occlusion of the coronary artery underwent angioplasty usually prevents myocardial infarction and saves the patient's live. The introduction of implantation of the stents significantly diminished a number of patients who required an emergency CABG operation.

Background: The aim of this study was to assess the significance of ST-segment depressions (ST-SD) detected during exercise test or Holter monitoring and to determine which parameters of ST-SD are the most important prognostic factors in patients after myocardial infarction., Methods: The study group consisted of 164 patients (126 men and 38 women) who survived their first uncomplicated myocardial infarction. Twenty-four-hour Holter monitoring on day 10 (+/- 2) after infarction and a treadmill exercise test 1 or 2 days later were performed. The following parameters of ST-SD were taken into consideration: amplitude, localization according to the area of infarction and presence or absence of concomitant angina. Patients were observed for 24 months to assess the occurrence of new cardiac events., Results: In 78 patients (group I) ST-SD were detected in both Holter monitoring and the exercise test, and in 32 patients (group II) in the exercise test only. Fifty-four patients (group III) were without ST-SD. During follow-up there were 83 cardiac events in group I, 24 in group II and 16 in group III (P < 0.01, group I versus II; P < 0.0001, group I versus III; P < 0.05, group II versus III). In multivariate analysis the presence of ST-SD during Holter monitoring or the exercise test, or both, appeared to be of most prognostic significance (P < 0.0001). The number of new cardiac events was significantly higher in patients with painful ST-SD greater than 3 mm, detected outside the area of infarction (distant ischaemia)., Conclusions: This study shows a significant prognostic value of early post-infarction ischaemia detected by Holter monitoring and an exercise test. Distant, painful ST-SD greater than 3 mm were more powerful determinants of poor prognosis than others. Electrode placement during Holter monitoring appears to be very important, particularly in post-infarction patients.

To make use of antigonadotropin and antiproliferating action of the synthetic analogs of GnRH there was applied this decapeptide in 33 patients with ovarian cancer who were treated traditionally by chemotherapeutics PAC and radiotherapy. The monitoring of treatment was supported on the clinical opinion of the whole and locally state of health, the USG examinations of pelvic and diaphragm, the measure of level of CA-125 and second-look operations. There were got statistically characteristic rise of remissions and stabilizations of neoplastic process.

In patients with unstable angina pectoris, subjected (n = 20) or not subjected (n = 12) to percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA), baseline superoxide anion (O.2-) generation by neutrophils in the coronary sinus blood was significantly higher than that found in the basilic vein blood of control healthy subjects (n = 12). During reperfusion following effective PTCA, neutrophil counts in the coronary sinus blood tended to decrease, an effect accompanied by a significant decrease in the neutrophil O.2- generation and enhancement of blood plasma lipid peroxidation as reflected by increased malonyldialdehyde concentrations.

The adherence and aggregation abilities of neutrophils (PMNs) were evaluated in thirty three patients with unstable angina, who were qualified for PTCA procedure. The control group consisted of forty one clinically healthy persons. The blood for investigations was obtained from coronary sinus and basilic vein just before the procedure, while in the control group from basilic vein only. The adherence of PMNs to plastic surface (rest and stimulated by PMA) was estimated in vitro according to Oez's et al. method by measuring optical density of generated formazan, whereas the aggregation of PMNs was evaluated using the leukergy test according to the method of Fleck in Berliner's and Aronson's modification. In patients with unstable angina statistically significant higher (p < 0.001) adherence of peripheral blood PMNs, compared with control groups was found (patients: rest-0.525 +/- 0.245, stimulated-0.839 +/- 0.419, control group: rest-0.260 +/- 0.129, stimulated-0.522 +/- 0.377). The aggregation of peripheral blood PMNs was significantly higher (p < 0.05) in the sick than in the control group (the sick-10.98 +/- 4.29%, controls-4.65 +/- 3.01%). No differences in investigated parameters of PMNs obtained from peripheral or coronary sinus blood were found.

The generation of O2-. and H2O2 by neutrophils (PMNs) obtained from peripheral and coronary sinus blood was investigated in twenty four patients with unstable angina, who were qualified for PTCA procedure. The control group consisted of twenty one clinically healthy persons. The blood for the investigations was obtained from coronary sinus and basilic vein just before the procedure, while in the control group from--basilic vein only. In patients with unstable angina statistically significant higher (p < 0.05) O2-. generation by peripheral blood PMNs (at rest and stimulated), compared with the control group, was found respectively (the sick: rest--11,09 +/- 1.92; stimulated--25.48 +/- 5.76 nmol/cell/min.; healthy: rest--7.98 +/- 1.06; stimulated--13.58 +/- 1.19 nmol/cell/min). No significant differences in O2-. generation between PMNs obtained from coronary sinus or peripheral blood were found. No differences in H2O2 generation by rest PMNs obtained from coronary sinus or peripheral blood were found in patients compared with the control group. The generation of H2O2 by PMA stimulated PMNs was higher in the sick without statistical significance.
