Recent satellite altimeters provide reliable altimetry observations near the coast, filling the gaps between the open ocean and land. We show the potential of recent satellite altimetry for the coastal marine gravity modelling using the least squares collocation technique. Gravity prediction error near the coast is better than 4 mGal. The modelled gravity anomalies are validated with sparse shipborne gravimetric measurements. We obtained 4.86 mGal precision when using the altimetry data with the best coastal coverage and retracked with narrow primary peak retracker. The predicted gravity field is an enhancement to EGM2008 over the coastal regions. The potential improvement in alti- metric marine gravity will be beneficial for the next generation of EGM development.

Background: Enterovirus D68 (EV-D68) primarily causes respiratory infection, occasionally manifesting with neurological symptoms. Outbreak reports have been published from various countries including Norway, but a longitudinal study on EV-D68 prevalence in Northern Europe is lacking. Methods: Respiratory samples from children ≤14 years received at Oslo University Hospital in the years 2012-2022 were examined for EV-D68. Samples from 2012-2015 were retrospectively screened using a semi-specific RT-PCR, with positive samples confirmed by an EV-D68 specific RT-PCR. Samples from 2016-2022 underwent routine diagnostics with the EV-D68 specific RT-PCR. Results: Among the 22,911 samples tested, EV-D68 was detected in 338 samples (324 patients). Most EV-D68 cases occurred in August to December. The highest detection rate was recorded in 2014, 2016 and 2022 (6.0%, 7.8% and 6.6% of samples from August-December). Lower frequencies were observed in 2018 and 2019 (1.0% and 2.4%), and in the years before the 2014 outbreak (2012: 1.3%, 2013: 0.8%). Few cases were identified in 2020-2021. Children aged 0-1 years accounted for 40%, and 0-4 years for 78%, of the EV-D68 positive patients. Most of the patients with EV-D68 (83%) were hospitalised. Discussion: Also in Norway, EV-D68 has caused outbreaks with significant disease burden, especially among the youngest children. The detection rate varies, with a trend towards biennial outbreaks, except for low numbers in 2018 and during the COVID-19 restrictions (2020-2021). Due to its potential for severe respiratory illness and significant neurological complications, conducting EVD68 testing is essential both for diagnosing clinically suspected cases, and for monitoring the disease burden. - Abstract
BAKGRUNN Gentamicin brukes ofte ved alvorlige infeksjoner hos barn. Det har vært rutine i Norge å måle serumkonsentrasjon av gentamicin rett før andre eller tredje dose (0-prøve) for å vurdere risiko for toksisitet. Den kliniske betydningen av slike målinger hos barn er tidligere ikke evaluert i Norge. MATERIALE OG METODE Dette er en retrospektiv studie av rutinemessig utførte 0-prøver for måling av serum-gentamicin hos barn i alderen 1 måned til 17 år ved fire norske sykehus. Kliniske data fra elektroniske pasientjournaler ble innhentet ved to av sykehusene. Alle barna ble behandlet etter norske retningslinjer med gentamicin i dosering 7 mg/kg en gang i døgnet intravenøst. RESULTATER Vanligste indikasjoner for behandling var febril urinveisinfeksjon, febril nøytropeni og mistenkt eller bekreftet sepsis. Median (interkvartilbredde) behandlingsvarighet for 353 episoder ved to sykehus var 4 (3–5) dager. Vi inkluderte serum-gentamicin-0-prøve fra 1 288 behandlingsepisoder ved alle fire sykehus. Ved 1 223 episoder (95 %) viste 0-prøven en serumkonsentrasjon av gentamicin på under 0,6 mg/L. Ved 7 episoder (0,5 %) viste 0-prøven forhøyet konsentrasjon, definert som over 1,0 mg/L. FORTOLKNING En (i de fleste tilfeller lett) forhøyet serumkonsentrasjon av gentamicin ble påvist i 0-prøve ved 7 av 1 288 behandlingsepisoder. Rutinemessig måling av serum-gentamicin med 0-prøve bør i fremtiden forbeholdes barn som får langvarig behandling, som har nedsatt nyrefunksjon eller som får samtidig behandling med nyre- eller ototoksiske medisiner. publishedVersion

- Abstract
The filtering procedure is usually mandatory for modeling mean dynamic topography (MDT) when a geodetic approach based on the Mean Sea Surface (MSS) and the Global Geopotential Model (GGM) is used. This is due to the inconsistent spectral contents between MSS and GGM. However, traditional isotropic filtering algorithms (e.g., Gaussian filter) consider neither the MDT locations nor their azimuth when smoothing the signal within the filtering radius. Hence, the isotropic filtering will attenuate the MDT signal near the current and filter the current signal into the surrounding ocean, which may lead to signal contamination and distortion. In this study, we set up a least squares-based (LS) approach to model MDT signal from the altimeter-derived MSS and geoid height using spherical harmonics from GGMs, where MDT is parameterized by Lagrange Basis Functions (LBFs). The design matrix is segmentally established, considering the error information of GGM in various spectral bands. Numerical experiments in the Gulf Stream show that applications of full error variance-covariance matrix or only diagonal error variance of GGM may have marginal effects on the MDT modeling. The MDT computed from this LS-based approach using the latest releases of Gravity Field and Steady-state Ocean Circulation Explorer (GOCE) geoid models, i.e., GO_CONS_GCF_2_DIR_R6 and Gravity Observation Combination 06s model (GOCO06s), have the best agreement with the comparison data, especially near the current region. Deduced geostrophic velocities based on the MDT solutions show that the LS-based approach recovers the current signal better than the Gaussian filtering by 1.8 cm/s. Estimated error map illustrates that errors are more concentrated near the coastal region.

- Abstract
Studies of the global sea-level budget (SLB) and the global ocean-massbudget (OMB) are essential to assess the reliability of our knowledge ofsea-level change and its contributors. Here we present datasets for timesseries of the SLB and OMB elements developed in the framework of ESA'sClimate Change Initiative. We use these datasets to assess the SLB and theOMB simultaneously, utilising a consistent framework of uncertaintycharacterisation. The time series, given at monthly sampling and availableat https://doi.org/10.5285/17c2ce31784048de93996275ee976fff (Horwath etal., 2021), include global mean sea-level (GMSL) anomalies from satellitealtimetry, the global mean steric component from Argo drifter data withincorporation of sea surface temperature data, the ocean-mass component fromGravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) satellite gravimetry, thecontribution from global glacier mass changes assessed by a global glaciermodel, the contribution from Greenland Ice Sheet and Antarctic Ice Sheetmass changes assessed by satellite radar altimetry and by GRACE, andthe contribution from land water storage anomalies assessed by the globalhydrological model WaterGAP (Water Global Assessment and Prognosis). Over the period January 1993–December 2016 (P1, covered by the satellite altimetry records), the mean rate (linear trend) of GMSL is 3.05 ± 0.24 mm yr−1. The steric component is 1.15 ± 0.12 mm yr−1 (38 % of the GMSL trend), and the mass component is 1.75 ± 0.12 mm yr−1 (57 %). The mass component includes 0.64 ± 0.03 mm yr−1 (21 % of the GMSL trend) from glaciers outsideGreenland and Antarctica, 0.60 ± 0.04 mm yr−1 (20 %) fromGreenland, 0.19 ± 0.04 mm yr−1 (6 %) from Antarctica, and0.32 ± 0.10 mm yr−1 (10 %) from changes of land water storage. In the period January 2003–August 2016 (P2, covered by GRACE and the Argo drifter system), GMSL rise is higher than in P1 at 3.64 ± 0.26 mm yr−1

- Abstract
Initially, a new geodetic mean dynamic topography model DTU22MDT is derived using the new DTU21MSS mean sea surface. The DTU21MSS model has been derived by including re-tracked CRYOSAT-2 altimetry also, hence, increasing its resolution. Some issues in the Polar regions have been solved too. The geoid model was derived within the ESA supported Optimal Geoid for Modelling Ocean Circulation (OGMOC) project. It was based on the GOCO05C setup, though the newer DTU15GRA altimetric surface gravity was used in the combination. The OGMOC geoid model was optimized to avoid striations and orange skin like features. Subsequently the model had been augmented using the EIGEN-6C4 coefficients to d/o 2160. The processing scheme used for deriving the new geodetic MDT is similar to the one used for the previous geodetic DTU MDT models. The filtering was re-evaluated by adjusting the quasi-gaussian filter width to optimize the fit to drifter velocities. Subsequently, the drifter velocities are integrated to enhance the resolution of the MDT model. Weights and constraints are introduced in the inversion and tuned to obtain a smooth model with enhanced details. A special concern is devoted to the coastal areas to optimize the extrapolation towards the coast line. The presentation will focus on the coastal zone when assessing the methodology, the data and the final model DTUUH22MDT.
