4. Investigation of the conditions for gas breakdown in a porous dielectric

Abstract

Plasma treatment of porous polymeric materials is a promising method for creating new materials that can be used in various applied problems, including medicine, in the development of new types of biocompatible and biodegradable polymeric materials. This work is devoted to the study of the processes of plasma treatment of porous polymeric materials depending on the size and type of pores in order to clarify the breakdown conditions and optimize the treatment process. A convenient semi-empirical model of the development of breakdown in a porous dielectric is proposed. Abstract

First-principles calculations are used to investigate the oxidation properties of model Pt/Hf[O.sub.2] interfaces as a function of oxygen partial pressure. The results have provided an explanation for the differences between measured vacuum and effective work functions for Pt as caused by strong Pt/Hf[O.sub.2] interface reduction.

Abstract

The thermodynamics and electronic properties of tungsten carbide surfaces and interfaces with monoclinic hafnia (WC/ m-Hf[O.sub.2]) are investigated through first-principles calculations. The findings show that oxidation of the WC surface and of the (WC/ m-Hf[O.sub.2] ) interface is energetically favorable.

Abstract

A study investigates the electronic properties of molybdenum surfaces and interfaces with monoclinic zirconia (Mo/m-ZrO2) of different stoichiometries through first-principles calculations. The results shows that oxygen adsorption on the Mo(110) surface strongly increases the Mo vacuum work functions.

Abstract

The effect of in-plane lattice strain on the atomic and electronic properties of low-index transition metal (M = Ti, Nb and Ta) carbide surfaces is analyzed by first-principles molecular dynamics calculations by using a pseudopotential plane-wave technique. The surface energy calculations have shown that surface stability is governed by the applied strain.

Abstract

The driving forces behind the interface segregation of Mo-Re and Mo-Pt supported on the m-HfO2 (001) surface are studied using first-principle calculations. The results have shown that the presence of Mo in the alloy stabilizes Pt and the impact of an HfO2 interface on the segregation behavior of metal alloys is estimated by calculating the adsorption energies of O atoms on the surfaces of the metals of interest.

Abstract

In this paper we present a novel integrated approach, which combines kinetic Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics (kMC-MD) methods, and its application in modeling initial steps of ZrO2 film growth on Si(1 0 0) surface. The modification of kMC for non-regular structures consists in dynamical determination of chemical structure at the energy minimization (surface relaxation) step using known and newly developed force field potential. The chemical adsorption and surface reaction probabilities incorporated in the kMC module have been determined from molecular cluster DFT calculations using kinetic transition state theory and Rice–Ramsperger–Kassel–Marcus methods. The force field potential has been developed for ZrO2/SiO2/Si film and interface using electro-negativity equalization method, limited set of available force field parameters and fitting procedure based on DFT calculations of a small molecules with appropriate bonding peculiarities.
