The consortial Primo installation of the Austrian Library Network and Service Ltd. The consortial Primo installation, centrally hosted at the Austrian Library Network and Service Ltd., serves as the basis of numerous, recently implemented search portals of major Austrian libraries. This article briefly outlines organisational and functional aspects of this jointly operated installation of Ex Libris’ discovery software Primo, as well as current developments like Primo Central and the new entry-level model "Primo Light".

Applicability of the discovery service Primo Central for Austrian academic libraries. A Report of the task force PrimoImplementation for the Austrian Library Network. In winter 2010/11 the task force PrimoImplementation of the Austrian Library Network evaluated Primo Central, the Discovery and Delivery Service from Ex Libris, by means of a three month test account and several Q&A sessions with product developers from Ex Libris. Primo Central integrates hundreds of millions of metadata from various data vendors with local holdings. The product was found to be comprehensive in many areas of research (mainly scholarly journal articles), well representing the holdings of a large as well as a medium multi-faculty university library. The lack of national (German) and regional titles severely affects searches for Austrian and German law, it partly affects searches in the fields of economics, psychology and civil engineering, too. Primo Central is updated regularly, but has to be less up-to-date than publisher platforms or PubMed or real time federated search engines like Meta-Lib. Perpetual availability of records from publishers or database vendors cannot be guaranteed by Ex Libris. Currently, metadata of resources indexed in Primo Central mainly do not come from the publishers themselves, but from CrossRef or IngentaConnect. Therefore subject indexing is often missing for these records. Search functionalities and display of relevance ranked search results are comparable to Google Scholar, additional features of Primo Central being faceted search and the opportunity to show only those results available at the particular library. Implementation of Primo Central has been smooth and quick. Preliminaries for the use of Primo Central are the use of Primo as library search engine or MetaLib as federated search engine and a link resolver (not necessarily SFX).

The Semantic Web, Library Linked (Open) Data and its impact on libraries has recently become a popular and much discussed topic. The aim of this article is to provide a concise overview of these concepts and to point out some use cases for the Austrian context. The first part is dedicated to an introduction to the fundamental concepts of the Semantic Web. Then some recent Linked Library Data-projects and initiatives, especially throughout Germany, their goals and challenges are being presented. Finally some scenarios and chances for the Austrian context, like enhanced search engines or catalogue enrichment, are discussed.

Recently, the Austrian Library Network implemented its new search engine, Primo. Hence, a reappraisal and realignment was needed for the display, indexing and – for the first time – faceted navigation of all data elements relevant for subject access. After a short overview of the software and the status of subject indexing and classification in the union catalogue of the consortium, the article deals in detail with the intended implementation in the new search engine. The main emphasis is on subject headings (according to the German subject cataloguing rules) as the most important means of intellectual indexing. In the second part, the actual implementation in Primo is outlined. Finally, future developments and improvements are discussed.

Purpose To evaluate in a large sample of patients from 10 different European centers the results of cataract surgery, characterizing the relationship between patient-reported outcomes (PROMs) and clinician-reported outcome measures (CROMs). Methods Prospective non-interventional multicenter observational descriptive study analyzing the clinical outcomes of a total of 3799 cases undergoing cataract surgery (mean age: 72.7 years). In all cases, the cataract surgery standard developed by the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurements (ICHOM) was used to register the clinical data. Three-month postoperative visual acuity and refraction data were considered CROMs, whereas Rasch-calibrated item 2 (RCCQ2) and total Catquest-9SF score (CQ) were considered PROMs. Results Postoperative corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) was 0.3 logMAR or better in 88.7% (2505/2823) of eyes. Mean differences between preoperative and postoperative RCCQ2 and CQ scores were −3.09 and −2.39, respectively. Visual function improvement with surgery was reported by 91.5% (2163/2364) of patients. Statistically significant, although weak, correlations of postoperative CDVA with postoperative refraction, PROMs, and complications were found (0.133 ≤ r ≤0.289, p < 0.001). A predictive model (R2: 0.254) of postoperative CDVA considering 10 variables was obtained, including preoperative CDVA, different ocular comorbidities, age, gender and intraoperative complications. Likewise, another predictive model (R2: 0.148) of postoperative CQ considering a total of 14 variables was obtained, including additionally preoperative CQ, target refraction and previous surgeries. Conclusions Cataract surgery provides an improved functional vision in most of patients although this improvement can be limited by ocular comorbidities and complications. Es wird eine Längsschnittstudie vorgestellt, in der zwei Kohorten von Studierenden vom Aufnahmeverfahren beginnend über den Verlauf des Studiums bis in den Beruf begleitet werden. Über jeweils fünf Jahre hinweg sollen Studienerfolg und Praxiserfahrungen erhoben und in Beziehung zu den Ergebnissen des Aufnahmeverfahrens gesetzt werden. In diesem Beitrag werden neben der Konzeption der Studie Ergebnisse einer Nacherhebung im ersten Semester präsentiert (Nt2 = 781, Nt2a = 241), die darauf hinweisen, dass von den erhobenen Merkmalen vor allem die Sprachkompetenz und bestimmte Persönlichkeitsmerkmale prädiktiv für die Studienleistungen und die Zufriedenheit mit der Studien- und Berufswahl sind. Over a period of five years, study success and practical experiences are to be surveyed and related to the results of the admission procedure. In addition to the conception of the study, this article presents results of a follow-up study within the first semester (Nt2 = 781, Nt2a = 241). As regards the analyzed characteristics, the results indicate that especially language proficiency and certain personality traits are predictive of academic achievement and satisfaction with the choice of study and career. The Netherlands is known globally for its widespread use of bicycles and some call it a “cycling nation”. Indeed, many Dutch inhabitants own a bike and cycle frequently. Numbers show that 84% of the Dutch inhabitants from age 4 years and older own a bike. Those owners have an average of 1.3 bikes per person. This results in 18 million bikes in the Netherlands and 13.5 million bike owners.6 The Dutch use their bike as a means of transportation, but also for sports and exercise. Bike-use fits well in an active lifestyle and it is highly plausible that cycling is responsible for a large part of the daily physical activity in Dutch youth. It is estimated that Dutch people have on average a 6 months longer life expectancy attributable to bicycle use.7 It seems that the nation itself is well shaped to cycle: no large mountains, only a few small hills, and an extensive layout of cycle paths and routes in every city and village. In many urban areas separate cycle paths are very common. Our results show that many Dutch children use the bike as their way of transportation. It was demonstrated that active transportation is responsible for a large part of schoolrelated physical activity in Dutch youth.8 80% of 12-17 year-old children cycled three or more days to or from school/work.9 This resulted in an ‘A’ for the indicator active transportation (walking is included in the grade as well). Active transport is associated with increased total physical activity among youth.10,11 Also evidence is reported for an association between active transport and a healthier body composition and healthier level of cardiorespiratory fitness among youth. Although Dutch children accumulate a lot of daily physical activity through cycling, it is not enough to meet the current national physical activity guidelines of 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity per day. Even though cycling is an important component to the amount of daily physical activity, Dutch youth are not cycling to health

Introduction Clinical practice guidelines regarding follow-up in patients after curative resection of colorectal cancer (CRC) vary widely. Current follow-up recommendations do not include additional postoperative imaging before starting adjuvant treatment in any patients. We evaluated the potential benefit of our institutional approach, recommending 18fluor-deoxy-glucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography (PET)-computed tomography (CT) imaging in CRC stage III patients with ≥4 locoregional lymph node metastases (pN2). Patients and Methods Our study included all patients from a single center with complete resection of a pT1-4, pN2, cM0 CRC. All patients were considered free of distant metastases on the basis of preoperative CT imaging of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis. The main objective of the present study was to assess the proportion of patients with changes of therapeutic management (defined as any other treatment than the preplanned adjuvant chemotherapy) because of the results of additional postoperative FDG-PET-CT imaging. Results Fifty patients (22 female/28 male) were included; the median age was 64 years (range, 37-78 years). Previously undiagnosed metastatic disease resulting in a change of the therapeutic management was detected using postoperative FDG-PET-CT imaging in 7 patients (14.0%; 95% confidence interval, 5.8%-26.7%). The number needed to screen to detect new or previously occult metastases was 7 (7 of 50). Conclusion To our knowledge, this is the first study to evaluate the role of an additional postoperative FDG-PET-CT scan before adjuvant treatment in patients with completely resected CRC with ≥4 lymph node metastases (pT1-4, pN2) and without distant metastases on preoperative CT imaging (cM0). Postoperative FDG-PET-CT imaging represents a valuable tool for the detection of new macrometastases in the subgroup of pN2 cM0 CRC patients. The low number needed to screen for consequent therapeutic changes is clinically relevant and should be further evaluated.

OBJECTIVES To determine the value of computer-aided detection (CAD) for solid pulmonary nodules in ultralow radiation dose single-energy computed tomography (CT) of the chest using third-generation dual-source CT at 100kV and fixed tube current at 70 mAs with tin filtration. METHODS 202 consecutive patients undergoing clinically indicated standard dose chest CT (1.8±0.7 mSv) were prospectively included and scanned with an additional ultralow dose CT (0.13±0.01 mSv) in the same session. Standard of reference (SOR) was established by consensus reading of standard dose CT by two radiologists. CAD was performed in standard dose and ultralow dose CT with two different reconstruction kernels. CAD detection rate of nodules was evaluated including subgroups of different nodule sizes ( 7mm). Sensitivity was further analysed in multivariable mixed effects logistic regression. RESULTS The SOR included 279 solid nodules (mean diameter 4.3±3.4mm, range 1-24mm). There was no significant difference in per-nodule sensitivity of CAD in standard dose with 70% compared to 68% in ultralow dose CT both overall and in different size subgroups (all p>0.05). Rugklachten zijn, na griep of verkoudheid, de tweede belangrijkste reden om te verzuimen en daarmee verantwoordelijk voor 15% van de verzuimdagen in Nederland. Ergonomische en organisatorische maatregelen kunnen deze risicofactoren verminderen. Ideaal zou een hulpmiddel zijn dat fysieke belasting op de rug vermindert en tevens flexibel is, altijd beschikbaar is en weinig specifieke kennis van de gebruiker vergt. Een zogenoemd exoskelet biedt hier mogelijk perspectief. In 2013 is een nieuw type exoskelet ontwikkeld, genaamd de Laevo. In dit artikel beschrijven we een experiment waarin het effect van de Laevo op de spieractiviteit in de romp- en beenspieren wordt onderzocht. Daarnaast is onderzocht of een eventuele reductie van rugspieractiviteit tot uiting komt in een langere volhoudtijd. The impact of scaling on the analog performance of MOS devices at RF frequencies was studied. Trends in the RF performance of nominal gate length NMOS devices from 350-nm to 50-nm CMOS technologies are presented. Both experimental data and circuit simulations with an advanced validated compact model (MOS Model 11) have been used to evaluate the RF performance. RF performance metrics such as the cutoff frequency, maximum oscillation frequency, power gain, noise figure, linearity, and 1/f noise were included in the analysis. The focus of the study was on gate and drain bias conditions relevant for RF circuit design. A scaling methodology for RF-CMOS based on limited linearity degradation is proposed.

In this paper we present the observation that Sr 2 B 5 O 9 Br:Eu 2+ shows thermoluminescence after illumination with UV photons, even when the photon energy is insufficient to induce band to band transitions. The role of the Eu 2+ ions to the trapping process and possible models to explain the observation will be discussed.

We report on the scintillation properties of a LiBaF3 crystal when irradiated with thermal neutrons or gamma rays. This scintillator exhibits cross luminescence and self-trapped-exciton luminescence. The former does not show up under thermal-neutron irradiation, whereas both give a response under gamma irradiation. This offers a unique opportunity for thermal-neutron-gamma discrimination. The effectiveness of the method is demonstrated.
