A notable trend in the modern automotive market is the increased interest in hybrid cars. Hybrid cars combine a standard internal combustion engine with an electric motor solution. Research into increasing the energy efficiency of a conventional unit while meeting increasingly stringent exhaust emission standards is becoming a key postulate in this matter. This article discusses an analysis of modifying the fuel used by hybrid vehicles using the example of a selected drive unit equipped with a spark-ignition engine. This effect was tested after the Eco Fuel Shot liquid catalyst was added to the fuel. The research process was carried out in two stages, as follows: in road conditions using the Dynomet road dynamometer; and on the V-tech VT4/B2 chassis dynamometer. Tests were carried out to replicate road tests with a catalytic additive in the fuel. A mathematical model was created and the following energy efficiency parameters of the hybrid vehicle were calculated: the torque of the internal combustion engine, electric motor, and generator; the rotational speeds of the internal combustion engine, electric motor, and generator; the power of the internal combustion engine, electric motor, and generator; the equivalent fuel consumption of the electric motor and generator; the fuel consumption of the internal combustion engine, electric motor, and generator; and the mileage fuel consumption of the internal combustion engine, electric motor, and generator. The results of the tests made it possible to identify the benefits of using the tested liquid catalyst on the operation of the drive system of the analyzed hybrid vehicle. This research will be of benefit to both the demand side in the form of users of this category of vehicles, and the supply side represented by the manufacturers of power units. This article presents an analysis of the influence of engine types, fuel types and selected methods of fuel treatment before injection on reductions in fuel consumption and exhaust emission components. This is the first of such studies, the continuation of which will allow a comprehensive assessment of the impact of cutter operations on environmental pollution. For the selected type of cutter, EEOIs (Energy Efficiency Operational Indicators) were determined to be a measure that takes into account both fuel consumption and harmful gas compound emissions depending on the type of engine used and the type of fuel. The data necessary to prepare this analysis were obtained during operational tests carried out on selected cutters with various types of engines fuelled with liquid fuel and a new catalytic fuel treatment method developed by the authors, while for the case of using gas fuel and a common rail engine, possible effects were forecasted. The effects of engine type, years of manufacture and fuel type (liquid and gas) on fuel consumption and emissions of selected exhaust components are demonstrated. The positive effects on fuel consumption and emissions of harmful exhaust constituents obtained, under laboratory test conditions, for an engine fuelled with catalytically treated fuel have allowed further research directions to be set for cutter engines equipped with injection equipment with applied catalytic coatings. The present article presents the results of analytical research on the possibility of using a mixture consisting of diesel oil and ethyl-tertiary-butyl ether in different percentages of EETB to power compression-ignition engines. The calculations were carried out for a four-stroke diesel engine intended for use as a power generator, among other things. In order to illustrate and verify the correctness of the calculations, a mathematical model was built that confirmed the correctness of the calculations. The calculations focused on a thorough analysis of the elemental composition (content of individual elements) of the fuel and, in particular, the carbon content in the fuel. A calculation algorithm was applied for mixing diesel fuel with ethyl-tertiary butyl ether in a share of EETB 5% + 95% ON, 10% EETB + 90% ON, 20% EETB ++80% ON, 30% EETB + 70% ON, 40% EETB + 60% ON. In this study, it determined the parameters of the working medium, the parameters of the environment and residual gases, and the processes (charge filling, compression, combustion, expansion) and effective parameters of the engine. The calculations used in this study led to heat balance, and a summary of the obtained results and their comparison with diesel oil are also described in this study. The results show the feasibility of using a mixture of ethyl-tertiary-butyl ether as a fuel in diesel engines. The results are very similar to those for 100% diesel. The results of our calculations confirming the possibility of using ether for fuel and thus maintaining similar engine operating parameters. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

At Maritime University of Szczecin there are carried out research works concerning utilization of biofuels on fishing vessels. There are a lot of information about relations between atomization and fuel combustion. Initial works also indicates correlation of surface tension with atomization. This article presents results of experimental investigation of droplets distribution after determination of fuel oil surface tension. The article presents bench test results of a DI (60 kW) Diesel engine D-243 operating on class 2 Diesel fuel (DF) as baseline fuel and its 5vol%, 10vol% and 15vol% blends with anhydrous ethanol. The purpose of the research was to investigate the effect of the ethanol addition to Diesel fuel on the autoignition delay, combustion, engine performance efficiency and emissions of the exhaust.
