We report on the development of a low-energy positron diffraction (LEPD) experimental station for surface structure analysis using a linac-based slow-positron beam. LEPD, the positron counterpart of low-energy electron diffraction (LEED), offers higher accuracy in surface structure determination. The station enables acquisition of LEPD I-V curves within a few hours, allowing measurements before surface degradation occurs. It consists of two ultra-high vacuum (UHV) chambers: one for sample preparation and the other for LEPD observations. The preparation chamber includes an Ar+ sputtering system, a triple-pocket electron beam evaporator, three gas introduction systems, additional user-configurable ports, and a LEED/Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) system. Sample manipulators enable rapid cooling, precise positioning, and orientation adjustments. In the preparation chamber, the manipulator also supports direct current heating up to 1200 {\deg}C. The sample holder is compatible with the LEPD station at SPF-A4 and the ARPES station at PF BL-13B, both located at the Tsukuba campus of the Institute of Materials Structure Science (IMSS), KEK. The technology for generating robot actions has significantly contributed to the automation and efficiency of tasks. However, the ability to adapt to objects of different shapes and hardness remains a challenge for general industrial robots. Motion reproduction systems (MRS) replicate previously acquired actions using position and force control, but generating actions for significantly different environments is difficult. Furthermore, methods based on machine learning require the acquisition of a large amount of motion data. This paper proposes a new method that matches the impedance of two pre-recorded action data with the current environmental impedance to generate highly adaptable actions. This method recalculates the command values for position and force based on the current impedance to improve reproducibility in different environments. Experiments conducted under conditions of extreme action impedance, such as position control and force control, confirmed the superiority of the proposed method over MRS. The advantages of this method include using only two sets of motion data, significantly reducing the burden of data acquisition compared to machine learning-based methods, and eliminating concerns about stability by using existing stable control systems. We measured the $\beta$-delayed neutron emission from $^{25}$F for the first time at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB). Using combined neutron and $\gamma$-ray detector systems of the FRIB Decay Station Initiator (FDSi), we observed $\beta$-decay transitions populating neutron unbound states between 4.2 and 8 MeV in $^{25}$Ne. The experimental results led to the revision of the $\beta$-decay half-life and $\beta$-delayed neutron-emission probability of $^{25}$F. The $\beta$-decay strength distribution of $^{25}$F extracted from the data agrees with the shell-model predictions using the USDB and SDPF-M effective interactions. This result indicates that the spherical neutron $N = 16$ shell gap persists in $^{25}$F and $^{25}$Ne., Comment: 7 pages

With the recent advancements in laser technology, there has been increasing interest in nonlinear and nonperturbative phenomena such as nonreciprocal transport, the nonlinear Hall effect, and nonlinear optical responses. When analyzing the nonequilibrium steady state, the relaxation time approximation (RTA) in the quantum kinetic equation has been widely used. However, recent studies have highlighted problems with the use of RTA that require careful consideration. In a study published in Phys. Rev. B, $\textbf{109}$, L180302 (2024), we revealed that the RTA has a flaw in predicting finite linear conductivity even for insulators under weak electric fields, and improved the RTA based on the Redfield equation. In this paper, we further extend our approach to nonlinear responses. Recent advancements in laser technology have spurred growing interest in nonlinear and nonequilibrium phenomena. Here, we investigate the geometric aspects of quantum tunneling and the nonreciprocal response, particularly focusing on the shift vector, in noncentrosymmetric insulators under a strong DC electric field. In insulators under a strong electric field, electrons undergoing Bloch oscillations interfere with each other by passing through different paths via Landau-Zener tunneling. We found that the interference effect due to multi-tunneling causes the oscillating nonreciprocal response that is significantly amplified with increasing electric field intensity. We also clarified the role of the shift vector in the interference conditions through an analysis of the nonequilibrium steady state. These results will contribute significantly to advancing a systematic understanding of quantum geometric effects in the nonperturbative regime., Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures

We introduce the Cuntz-Thomsen picture of $\mathcal{C}$-equivariant Kasparov theory, denoted $\mathrm{KK}^\mathcal{C}$, for a unitary tensor category $\mathcal{C}$ with countably many isomorphism classes of simple objects. We use this description of $\mathrm{KK}^\mathcal{C}$ to prove the stable uniqueness theorem in this setting.

The development of large language models and vision-language models (VLMs) has resulted in the increasing use of robotic systems in various fields. However, the effective integration of these models into real-world robotic tasks is a key challenge. We developed a versatile robotic system called SuctionPrompt that utilizes prompting techniques of VLMs combined with 3D detections to perform product-picking tasks in diverse and dynamic environments. Our method highlights the importance of integrating 3D spatial information with adaptive action planning to enable robots to approach and manipulate objects in novel environments. In the validation experiments, the system accurately selected suction points 75.4%, and achieved a 65.0% success rate in picking common items. We report the first measurement of the azimuthal anisotropy of J$/\psi$ at forward rapidity ($1.2<|\eta|<2.2$) in Au$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The data were collected by the PHENIX experiment in 2014 and 2016 with integrated luminosity of 14.5~nb$^{-1}$. The second Fourier coefficient ($v_2$) of the azimuthal distribution of $J/\psi$ is determined as a function of the transverse momentum ($p_T$) using the event-plane method. The measurements were performed for several selections of collision centrality: 0\%--50\%, 10\%--60\%, and 10\%-40\%. We find that in all cases the values of $v_2(p_T)$, which quantify the elliptic flow of J$/\psi$, are consistent with zero. The results are consistent with measurements at midrapidity, indicating no significant elliptic flow of the J$/\psi$ within the quark-gluon-plasma medium at collision energies of $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV., Comment: 369 authors from 72 institutions, 12 pages, 7 figures, 5 tables. v1 is version submitted to Physical Review C. We present the first forward-rapidity measurements of elliptic anisotropy of open-heavy-flavor muons at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The measurements are based on data samples of Au$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV collected by the PHENIX experiment in 2014 and 2016 with integrated luminosity of 14.5~nb$^{-1}$. Designing a safe policy for uncertain environments is crucial in real-world control applications. However, this challenge remains inadequately addressed within the Markov decision process (MDP) framework. This paper presents the first algorithm capable of identifying a near-optimal policy in a robust constrained MDP (RCMDP), where an optimal policy minimizes cumulative cost while satisfying constraints in the worst-case scenario across a set of environments. We first prove that the conventional Lagrangian max-min formulation with policy gradient methods can become trapped in suboptimal solutions by encountering a sum of conflicting gradients from the objective and constraint functions during its inner minimization problem. To address this, we leverage the epigraph form of the RCMDP problem, which resolves the conflict by selecting a single gradient from either the objective or the constraints. Building on the epigraph form, we propose a binary search algorithm with a policy gradient subroutine and prove that it identifies an $\varepsilon$-optimal policy in an RCMDP with $\tilde{\mathcal{O}}(\varepsilon^{-4})$ policy evaluations.

Nanosatellites are proliferating as low-cost dedicated sensing systems with lean development cycles. Kyushu Institute of Technology and collaborators have launched a joint venture for a nanosatellite mission, VERTECS. The primary mission is to elucidate the formation history of stars by observing the optical-wavelength cosmic background radiation. The VERTECS satellite will be equipped with a small-aperture telescope and a high-precision attitude control system to capture the cosmic data for analysis on the ground. However, nanosatellites are limited by their onboard memory resources and downlink speed capabilities. Additionally, due to a limited number of ground stations, the satellite mission will face issues meeting the required data budget for mission success. To alleviate this issue, we propose an on-orbit system to autonomously classify and then compress desirable image data for data downlink prioritization and optimization. The system comprises a prototype Camera Controller Board (CCB) which carries a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 which is used for classification and compression. The system uses a lightweight Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model to classify and determine the desirability of captured image data. The model is designed to be lean and robust to reduce the computational and memory load on the satellite. The model is trained and tested on a novel star field dataset consisting of data captured by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). The dataset is meant to simulate the expected data produced by the 6U satellite. The compression step implements GZip, RICE or HCOMPRESS compression, which are standards for astronomical data. Preliminary testing on the proposed CNN model results in a classification accuracy of about 100\% on the star field dataset, with compression ratios of 3.99, 5.16 and 5.43 for GZip, RICE and HCOMPRESS that were achieved on tested FITS image data., Comment: 14 pages

The independent set reconfiguration problem (ISReconf) is the problem of determining, for given independent sets I_s and I_t of a graph G, whether I_s can be transformed into I_t by repeatedly applying a prescribed reconfiguration rule that transforms an independent set to another. As reconfiguration rules for the ISReconf, the Token Sliding (TS) model and the Token Jumping (TJ) model are commonly considered. While the TJ model admits the addition of any vertex (as far as the addition yields an independent set), the TS model admits the addition of only a neighbor of the removed vertex. It is known that the complexity status of the ISReconf differs between the TS and TJ models for some graph classes. In this paper, we analyze how changes in reconfiguration rules affect the computational complexity of reconfiguration problems. To this end, we generalize the TS and TJ models to a unified reconfiguration rule, called the k-Jump model, which admits the addition of a vertex within distance k from the removed vertex. Then, the TS and TJ models are the 1-Jump and D(G)-Jump models, respectively, where D(G) denotes the diameter of a connected graph G. We give the following three results: First, we show that the computational complexity of the ISReconf under the k-Jump model for general graphs is equivalent for all k >= 3. Second, we present a polynomial-time algorithm to solve the ISReconf under the 2-Jump model for split graphs. We note that the ISReconf under the 1-Jump (i.e., TS) model is PSPACE-complete for split graphs, and hence the complexity status of the ISReconf differs between k = 1 and k = 2. Third, we consider the optimization variant of the ISReconf, which computes the minimum number of steps of any transformation between Is and It. We prove that this optimization variant under the k-Jump model is NP-complete for chordal graphs of diameter at most 2k + 1, for any k >=3., Comment: 16 pages, 6 figures

Spotforming is a target-speaker extraction technique that uses multiple microphone arrays. This method applies beamforming (BF) to each microphone array, and the common components among the BF outputs are estimated as the target source. This study proposes a new common component extraction method based on nonnegative tensor factorization (NTF) for higher model interpretability and more robust spotforming against hyperparameters. Moreover, attractor-based regularization was introduced to facilitate the automatic selection of optimal target bases in the NTF. Floquet engineering, which involves controlling systems through time-periodic driving, is a method for coherently manipulating quantum materials and realizing dynamical states with novel functionalities. Most research in solid-state systems has focused on the use of AC-electric fields as the controlling drive. In this study, we investigate the effects of AC-magnetic fields on two-dimensional (2D) Dirac electrons and report the emergence of new states and new transport phenomena. In a magnetic field that temporarily changes its direction, an electron nor a hole can sorely complete a cyclotron orbit. However, their resonant state alternating between electron and hole can do so; This leads to a new localized state that forms a flat band dubbed as a $\pi$-Landau level. Then, what would be the counterpart of the Hall effect in AC-magnetic fields? We find that a DC-current in the transverse direction, i.e. a homodyne Hall current, is generated when an additional AC-electric field is applied. In the case of Dirac electrons, several electronic states contribute to this phenomenon including the $\pi$-Landau level. However, when the chemical potential $\mu$ is near the Dirac point, the dominant contribution comes from the low-energy electrons and we numerically find the homodyne Hall current to behave as $I_y=-\frac{e}{h}\mu$ per valley and spin. We explain this phenomenon through the high-frequency effective Floquet Hamiltonian which resembles the chiral Landau level Hamiltonian of three-dimensional Weyl Hamiltonian exhibiting chiral anomaly. We discuss the experimental feasibility and conclude that it is possible to realize this new exotic state using techniques such as THz metamaterial enhancement of magnetic fields., Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures

The strength distributions of the Isoscalar Giant Monopole Resonance (ISGMR) and Isoscalar Giant Quadrupole Resonance (ISGQR) in 142,146-150Nd have been determined via inelastic alpha-particle scattering with the Grand Raiden (GR) Spectrometer at the Research Center for Nuclear Physics (RCNP), Japan. In the deformed nuclei 146-150Nd, the ISGMR strength distributions exhibit a splitting into two components, while the nearly spherical nucleus 142Nd displays a single peak in the ISGMR strength distribution. A noteworthy achievement in this study is the first-time detection of overtones in the Isoscalar Giant Quadrupole Resonance (ISGQR) strength distributions within Nd isotopes at an excitation energy around 25 MeV obtained through Multipole Decomposition Analysis (MDA)., Comment: Accepted for publication in Physics Letters B

Kagome superconductors AV3Sb5 (A = K, Rb, Cs) exhibit a characteristic superconducting and charge-density wave (CDW) phase diagram upon carrier doping and chemical substitution. However, the key electronic states responsible for such a phase diagram have yet to be clarified. Here we report a systematic micro-focused angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) study of Cs(V1-xCrx)3Sb5 as a function of Cr content x, where Cr substitution causes monotonic reduction of superconducting and CDW transition temperatures. We found that the V-derived bands forming saddle points at the M point and Dirac nodes along high-symmetry cuts show an energy shift due to electron doping by Cr substitution, whereas the Sb-derived electron band at the Gamma point remains almost unchanged, signifying an orbital-selective band shift. We also found that band doubling associated with the emergence of three-dimensional CDW identified at x = 0 vanishes at x = 0.25, in line with the disappearance of CDW. A comparison of band diagrams among Ti-, Nb-, and Cr-substituted Cs(V1-xCrx)3Sb5 suggests the importance to simultaneously take into account the two saddle points at the M point and their proximity to the Fermi energy, to understand the complex phase diagram against carrier doping and chemical pressure., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures

We study the bulk photovoltaic effect (BPVE) in Dirac and Weyl semimetals under two-frequency light irradiation. We show that the BPVE emerges for centrosymmetric Dirac and Weyl semimetals in the presence of light fields with frequencies $\Omega$ and $2\Omega$. The BPVE under the two frequency drive involves both shift current contribution independent of the carriers lifetime $\tau$ and the injection current contribution $\propto \tau$. Our calculations indicate that the photocurrent's direction, magnitude and type can be dynamically controlled by tuning parameters of the driving fields. Furthermore, we find that the tilt of the Dirac cone significantly affects the photocurrent, particularly in mirror symmetry-lacking Weyl semimetals, leading to an anisotropic optical response. These findings provide new insights into the dynamic control of photocurrents in topological semimetals, offering promising applications for optoelectronic devices., Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures

Antiferromagnetic topological insulators (AF TIs) are predicted to exhibit exotic physical properties such as gigantic optical and topological magnetoelectric responses. While a key to achieving such phenomena relies on how to break the symmetry protecting the Dirac-cone surface state (SS) and acquire the mass of Dirac fermions, the mechanism has yet to be clarified. To address this issue, we carried out micro-focused angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy for GdBi hosting the type-II AF order, and uncovered the stripe-type 2$\times$1 reconstruction of the Fermi surface associated with the AF band folding. Intriguingly, in contrast to NdBi with the type-I AF order displaying the surface-selective Dirac-fermion mass, GdBi shows massless behavior irrespective of AF domains due to the robust topological protection. These results strongly suggest a crucial role of the ThetaTD (time-reversal and translational) symmetry to create the Dirac-fermion mass in AF TIs., Comment: 21 pages, 6 figures

High-momentum two-particle correlations are a useful tool for studying jet-quenching effects in the quark-gluon plasma. Angular correlations between neutral-pion triggers and charged hadrons with transverse momenta in the range 4--12~GeV/$c$ and 0.5--7~GeV/$c$, respectively, have been measured by the PHENIX experiment in 2014 for Au$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$~GeV. Suppression is observed in the yield of high-momentum jet fragments opposite the trigger particle, which indicates jet suppression stemming from in-medium partonic energy loss, while enhancement is observed for low-momentum particles. The ratio and differences between the yield in Au$+$Au collisions and $p$$+$$p$ collisions, $I_{AA}$ and $\Delta_{AA}$, as a function of the trigger-hadron azimuthal separation, $\Delta\phi$, are measured for the first time at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. We characterize the simplicity of Pimsner algebras for non-proper C*-correspondences. With the aid of this criterion, we give a systematic strategy to produce outer actions of unitary tensor categories on Kirchberg algebras. In particular, every countable unitary tensor category admits an outer action on the Cuntz algebra $\mathcal{O}_2$. We also study the realizability of modules over fusion rings as K-groups of Kirchberg algebras acted on by unitary tensor categories, which turns out to be generically true for every unitary fusion category. Several new examples are provided, among which actions on Cuntz algebras of 3-cocycle twists of cyclic groups are constructed for all possible 3-cohomological classes by answering a question asked by Izumi., Comment: 35 pages. We statistically investigate high-frequency whistler waves (with frequencies higher than $\sim 10$ % of the local elect ron cyclotron frequency) at Earth's bow shock using Magnetospheric Multi-Scale (MMS) spacecraft observations. We focus specifically on the wave power within the shock transition layer, where we expect electron acceleration via stochastic sh ock drift acceleration (SSDA) to occur associated with efficient pitch-angle scattering by whistler waves. We find that the wave power is positively correlated with both the Alfv\'en Mach number in the normal incidence frame $M_{\rm A}$ and in the de Hoffmann-Teller frame $M_{\rm A}/\cos \theta_{Bn}$. The empirical relation with $M_{\rm A}/\cos \theta_{Bn}$ is compared with the theory of SSDA that predicts a threshold wave power proportional to $(M_{\rm A}/\cos \theta_{Bn})^{-2}$. The result suggests that the wave power exceeds the theoretical threshold for $M_{\rm A} / \cos \theta_{Bn} \gtrsim 30-60$, beyond which efficient electron acceleration is expected. This aligns very well with previous statistical analysis of electron acceleration at Earth's bow shock (M. Oka, G eophys.~Res.~Lett., 33, 5, 2006). Therefore, we consider that this study provides further support for SSDA as the mechanism of electron acceleration at Earth's bow shock. At higher-Mach-number astrophysical shocks, SSDA will be able to inject electrons into the diffusive shock acceleration process for subsequent acceleration to cosmic-ray energies., Comment: 15 pages, 12 figures.
