Abstract Background Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) might be required as a treatment option in patients with critical pulmonary embolism (PE). However, the clinical features and outcomes of the use of ECMO for critical acute PE are still limited. The present study aimed to clarify the clinical characteristics, management strategies and outcomes of patients with acute PE requiring ECMO in the current era using data from a large-scale observational database. Methods We analyzed the data of the COMMAND VTE Registry-2: a physician-initiated, multicenter, retrospective cohort study enrolling consecutive patients with acute symptomatic venous thromboembolism (VTE). Among 2035 patients with acute symptomatic PE, there were 76 patients (3.7%) requiring ECMO. Results Overall, the mean age was 58.4 years, and 34 patients (44.7%) were men. Cardiac arrest or circulatory collapse at diagnosis was reported in 67 patients (88.2%). The 30-day incidence of all-cause death was 30.3%, which were all PE-related deaths. The 30-day incidence of major bleeding was 54.0%, and the vast majority of bleedings were procedure site-related bleeding events and surgery-related bleeding (22.4%). The 30-day incidence of all-cause death was 6.3% in 16 patients with surgical intervention, 43.8% in 16 patients with catheter intervention, 25.0% in 16 patients with thrombolytic therapy, and 39.3% in 28 patients with anticoagulation only. Conclusions The current large real-world VTE registry in Japan revealed clinical features and outcomes of critical acute PE requiring ECMO in the current era, which suggested several unmet needs for future clinical trials.

Abstract Iodine and bromine play central roles in polar atmospheric chemistry: iodine influences the atmospheric oxidative capacity and can generate cloud condensation nuclei, while bromine participates in ozone depletion reactions, known as bromine explosions. Here we present a very sensitive analytical method for Br and I speciation by coupling the ion chromatography system (IC) with an inductively coupled plasma sector field mass spectrometer (ICP-SFMS). We achieved sub-picogram-per gram (pg g−1) as limits of detection (LODs) ranging from 0.4 pg g−1 for I−, 0.8 pg g−1 for IO3 −, 4 pg g−1 for Br−, and 1 pg g−1 for BrO3 −, respectively. These values represent a decrease of up to 30 times compared to the LODs reported in other studies. The method was validated using deep snow samples from the Svalbard Islands, collected at the end of the polar night to quantify various oxidized compounds during their seasonal minimum. In the future, this method could prove useful in the paleoclimatic study of ice cores and snow, as well as in ice chemistry research.

PURPOSE This study aimed to investigate the impact of cerebral palsy (CP) on motor control strategies, with a focus on understanding the altered capability of multi-finger force control in adult patients with dyskinetic CP. METHODS Eight adults with dyskinetic CP and ten age- and sex-matched healthy controls participated in this study. The participants performed three force production tasks using four fingers of the dominant hand under isometric conditions: maximum voluntary contraction (MVC) to assess maximum force production, a ramp task to evaluate finger interdependency (enslaving), and a pulse task to examine the ability to rapidly and precisely adjust force. The co-contraction index (CCI) of finger flexor and extensor was also determined during steady state and pulse force production. RESULTS Patients with dyskinetic CP demonstrated significant impairments in finger force control compared to healthy controls. Specifically, the accuracy and consistency of force production were reduced in the CP group, and they exhibited a longer time to peak pulse force. The CP group also showed increased finger interdependency and elevated CCI during pulse force production, suggesting a greater reliance on co-contraction and less efficient motor control strategies. CONCLUSIONS This study highlights the distinct motor control deficits in individuals with dyskinetic CP, particularly in tasks requiring rapid and precise finger force adjustment. These results have important implications for the functional rehabilitation of patients with CP. Therapies aimed at reducing excessive co-contraction and decreasing finger interdependency may be beneficial for improving muscle coordination and overall motor function.

Background: Ischemic stroke is a serious complication in patients with cancer-associated venous thromboembolism (CAVTE), although data remain scarce in the direct oral anticoagulant era. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the incidence and identify predictive risk factors of ischemic stroke in patients with CAVTE. Methods: From the Contemporary Management and Outcomes in Patients With Venous Thromboembolism Registry-2 enrolling 5197 venous thromboembolism (VTE) patients across 31 centers in Japan between January 2015 and August 2020, we selected 1507 patients with active cancer. We calculated the cumulative incidence function of ischemic stroke accounting for the competing risk of death and investigated risk factors for ischemic stroke in a subdistribution hazard model of multivariable analysis. Results: During a median follow-up period of 1020 days, 71 patients (4.7%) developed ischemic stroke, and the cumulative incidence of ischemic stroke was 4.0% at 1 year and 4.7% at 3 years. Independent risk factors of ischemic stroke included pancreatic cancer (hazard ratio [HR], 4.24; 95% CI, 2.13-8.43), ovarian cancer (HR, 2.82; 95% CI, 1.31-6.08), lung cancer (HR, 2.35; 95% CI, 1.20-4.57), dyslipidemia (HR, 1.76; 95% CI, 1.01-3.09), metastasis (HR, 1.70; 95% CI, 1.02-2.82), higher D-dimer at VTE diagnosis (HR, 1.09; 95% CI, 1.04-1.14), and younger age (HR, 0.84; 95% CI, 0.71-0.999). Conclusion: In this large VTE registry in the direct oral anticoagulant era, the cumulative incidence of ischemic stroke was 4.0% at 1 year and 4.7% at 3 years in patients with CAVTE, and several independent risk factors of ischemic stroke were identified, including pancreatic cancer, ovarian cancer, lung cancer, dyslipidemia, metastasis, higher D-dimer at VTE diagnosis, and younger age.

Background Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is a life‐threatening complication post‐acute pulmonary embolism (PE). The assessment of CTEPH incidence and risk factors post‐acute PE in the era of direct oral anticoagulants remains insufficient. Methods and Results The COMMAND VTE Registry‐2 (contemporary management and outcomes in patients with venous thromboembolism registry‐2) is a multicenter registry that recruited consecutive patients with acute symptomatic venous thromboembolism from 31 centers across Japan. The primary outcome was to demonstrate the detection rate of CTEPH after acute PE in routine clinical practice. Out of the 5197 patients with venous thromboembolism included in the COMMAND VTE Registry‐2, 2787 were diagnosed with acute PE. Following a median follow‐up duration of 747 days, 48 cases of CTEPH were detected, and the cumulative diagnosis of CTEPH in routine clinical practice was 2.3% at 3 years. Independent risk factors for the detection of CTEPH by multivariable Cox regression analysis included women (hazard ratio [HR] 2.09 [95% CI, 1.05–4.14]), longer interval from symptom onset to diagnosis of PE (each 1 day, HR 1.04 [95% CI, 1.01–1.07]), hypoxemia at diagnosis (HR 2.52 [95% CI, 1.26–5.04]), right heart load (HR 9.28 [95% CI, 3.19–27.00]), lower D‐dimer value (each 1 μg/mL, HR 0.96 [95% CI, 0.92–0.99]), and unprovoked PE (HR 2.77 [95% CI, 1.22–6.30]). Conclusions In the direct oral anticoagulant era, the cumulative diagnosis of CTEPH after acute PE was 2.3% at 3 years, and several independent risk factors for CTEPH were identified, which could be useful for screening a high‐risk population after acute PE.

Organic matter is crucial in aerosol–climate interactions, yet the physicochemical properties and origins of organic aerosols remain poorly understood. Here we show the seasonal characteristics of submicron organic aerosols in Arctic Svalbard during spring and summer, emphasizing their connection to transport patterns and particle size distribution. Microbial-derived organic matter (MOM) and terrestrial-derived organic matter (TOM) accounted for over 90% of the total organic mass in Arctic aerosols during these seasons, comprising carbohydrate/protein-like and lignin/tannin-like compounds, respectively. In spring, aerosols showed high TOM and low MOM intensities due to biomass-burning influx in the central Arctic. In contrast, summer exhibited elevated MOM intensity, attributed to the shift in predominant atmospheric transport from the central Arctic to the biologically active Greenland Sea. MOM and TOM were associated with Aitken mode particles (100 nm diameter), respectively. This association is linked to the molecular size of biomolecules, impacting the number concentrations of corresponding aerosol classes. These findings highlight the importance of considering seasonal atmospheric transport patterns and organic source-dependent particle size distributions in assessing aerosol properties in the changing Arctic.

Background The simplified Pulmonary Embolism Severity Index (sPESI) score could help identify low‐risk patients with pulmonary embolism for home treatment. However, the application of the sPESI score and selection for home treatment have not been fully evaluated in the direct oral anticoagulants era. Methods and Results The COMMAND VTE (Contemporary Management and Outcomes in Patients With Venous Thromboembolism) Registry‐2 is a multicenter registry enrolling consecutive patients with acute symptomatic venous thromboembolism. The current study population consists of 2496 patients with hemodynamically stable pulmonary embolism (2100 patients [84%] treated with direct oral anticoagulants), who were divided into 2 groups: sPESI scores of 0 and ≥1. We investigated the 30‐day mortality, home treatment prevalence, and factors predisposing to home treatment using the Kaplan‐Meier method and logistic regression model. Patients with an sPESI score of 0 accounted for 612 (25%) patients, and only 17% among 532 patients with out‐of‐hospital pulmonary embolism were treated at home. Abstract Spin‐transfer torque (STT) and spin‐orbit torque (SOT) form the core of spintronics, allowing for the control of magnetization through electric currents. While the sign of SOT can be manipulated through material and structural engineering, it is conventionally understood that STT lacks a degree of freedom in its sign. However, this study presents the first demonstration of manipulating the STT sign by engineering heavy metals adjacent to magnetic materials in magnetic heterostructures. Spin torques are quantified through magnetic domain‐wall speed measurements, and subsequently, both STT and SOT are systematically extracted from these measurements. The results unequivocally show that the sign of STT can be either positive or negative, depending on the materials adjacent to the magnetic layers. Specifically, Pd/Co/Pd films exhibit positive STT, while Pt/Co/Pt films manifest negative STT. First‐principle calculations further confirm that the sign reversal of STT originates from the sign reversal of spin polarization of conduction electrons.

Background There have been limited data on the changes in clinical outcomes after the introduction of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) for venous thromboembolism (VTE) in real clinical practice. We evaluated the changes in management strategies and long‐term outcomes from the warfarin era to the DOAC era. A 47-year-old man had localized pulmonary edema (LPE) and a massive pulmonary embolism. The cause of LPE was believed to be a high blood supply to the spared pulmonary artery territories without a thrombus. The patient was successfully treated with unfractionated heparin and thrombolytic agents.

Abstract This study analyzed oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) genomes and transcriptomes in relation to perineural invasion (PNI) and prognosis using Cancer Genome Atlas data and validated these results with GSE41613 data. Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA), gene ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes were conducted. We identified 22 DNA mutations associated with both overall survival (OS) and PNI. Among them, TGFBR1 and RPS6KA4 mRNAs were overexpressed, while TYRO3 and GPR137 mRNAs were underexpressed in PNI patients. Among the 141 mRNA genes associated with both OS and PNI, we found overlap with PNI-related DNA mutations, including ZNF43, TEX10, TPSD1, and PSD3. In GSE41613 data, TGFBR1, RPS6KA4, TYRO3, GPR137, TEX10 and TPSD1 mRNAs were expressed differently according to the prognosis. The 22 DNA-mutated genes clustered into nervous system development, regulation of DNA-templated transcription, and transforming growth factor beta binding. GSEA analysis of mRNAs revealed upregulation of hallmarks epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT), TNFα signaling via NF-κB, and IL2 STAT5 signaling. EMT upregulation aligned with the TGFBR1 DNA mutation, supporting its significance in PNI. These findings suggest a potential role of PNI genes in the prognosis of OSCC, providing insights for diagnosis and treatment of OSCC.

IntroductionIntramedullary cord tumors present diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Furthermore, spinal cord tumors can move across compartments, making antemortem diagnosis difficult, even with advanced imaging. This report presents a rare case of a cranial cervical spinal glioma, confirmed by surgical histopathology, with postoperative improvement in a dog.Case descriptionA 9-year-old female Maltese dog presented with kyphotic posture, progressive left hemiparesis, and decreased appetite. Neurological examination revealed neck pain and decreased proprioception in the left limbs along with intact deep pain perception. Two days later, the patient developed non-ambulatory tetraparesis. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed an ovoid, well-defined mass with homogeneously marked contrast enhancement in the second cervical spinal cord that severely compressed the spinal cord. This mass was heterogeneously hyperintense on T2-weighted images and iso-to-hypointense on T1-weighted images, showing an appearance resembling the “golf-tee” and “dural tail” signs. The MRI findings suggested an intradural extramedullary tumor. Intraoperatively, a well-demarcated mass which was locally adherent to the spinal meninges was removed. Both histopathological and genomic tumor tests were indicative of a glioma. Approximately 2 weeks postoperatively, the patient’s neurological signs returned to normal.ConclusionThis case report describes an atypical cervical glioma with complicated MR characteristics in a dog, where MRI helped guide surgical intervention.

Objective There is a need for a robust tool to stratify the patient’s risk with COVID-19. We assessed the prognostic values of cardiac biomarkers for COVID-19 patients.Methods This is a single-centre retrospective cohort study. Consecutive laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patients admitted to the Kobe City Medical Center General Hospital from July 2020 to September 2021 were included. We obtained cardiac biomarker values from electronic health records and institutional blood banks. We stratified patients with cardiac biomarkers as high-sensitive troponin I (hsTnI), N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), creatine kinase (CK) and CK myocardial band (CK-MB), using the clinically relevant thresholds. Abstract Magnetic domain-wall devices such as racetrack memory and domain-wall shift registers facilitate massive data storage as hard disk drives with low power portability as flash memory devices. The key issue to be addressed is how perfectly the domain-wall motion can be controlled without deformation, as it can replace the mechanical motion of hard disk drives. However, such domain-wall motion in real media is subject to the stochasticity of thermal agitation with quenched disorders, resulting in severe deformations with pinning and tilting. To sort out the problem, we propose and demonstrate a new concept of domain-wall control with a position error-free scheme. The primary idea involves spatial modulation of the spin-orbit torque along nanotrack devices, where the boundary of modulation possesses broken inversion symmetry. In this work, by showing the unidirectional motion of domain wall with position-error free manner, we provide an important missing piece in magnetic domain-wall device development.

Abstract The increased prevalence of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the integration of digital technology into our daily lives have given rise to heightened security risks and the need for more robust security measures. In response to these challenges, physical unclonable functions (PUFs) have emerged as promising solution, offering a highly secure method to generate unpredictable and unique random digital values by leveraging inherent physical characteristics. However, traditional PUFs implementations often require complex hardware and circuitry, which can add to the cost and complexity of the system. We present a novel approach using a random wrinkles PUF (rw-PUF) based on an optically anisotropic, facile, simple, and cost-effective material. These wrinkles contain randomly oriented liquid crystal molecules, resulting in a two-dimensional retardation map corresponding to a complex birefringence pattern. Additionally, our proposed technique allows for customization based on specific requirements using a spatial light modulator, enabling fast fabrication. The random wrinkles PUF has the capability to store multiple data sets within a single PUF without the need for physical alterations. Furthermore, we introduce a concept called ‘polyhedron authentication,’ which utilizes three-dimensional information storage in a voxelated random wrinkles PUF. This approach demonstrates the feasibility of implementing high-level security technology by leveraging the unique properties of the rw-PUF.

Objective: Antithrombotic therapy has the potential to interfere with false lumen thrombosis. In type B acute aortic syndrome, the degree of false lumen thrombosis affects clinical outcomes. We aimed to explore the association of antithrombotic therapy with the prognosis of patients with type B acute aortic syndrome. Methods: We reviewed 406 patients with type B acute aortic syndrome who were discharged alive with and without antithrombotic therapy. The primary outcome was aorta-related adverse events, defined as a composite of aorta-related death, aortic rupture, aortic repair, and progressive aortic dilation. Results: Of the 406 patients, 64 (16%) were discharged with antithrombotic therapy and 342 (84%) were discharged without antithrombotic therapy. A total of 249 patients (61%) presented with intramural hematoma with complete thrombosis of the false lumen, and 157 patients (39%) presented with aortic dissection. During a median follow-up of 4.6 years, 32 patients (50%) in the antithrombotic group and 93 patients (27%) in the nonantithrombotic group had a primary outcome event. Sulfurtransferases transfer of sulfur atoms from thiols to acceptors like cyanide. They are categorized as thiosulfate sulfurtransferases (TSTs) and 3-mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferases (MSTs). TSTs transfer sulfur from thiosulfate to cyanide, producing thiocyanate. MSTs transfer sulfur from 3-mercaptopyruvate to cyanide, yielding pyruvate and thiocyanate. The present study aimed to isolate and characterize the sulfurtransferase FrST from Frondihabitans sp. PAMC28461 using biochemical and structural analyses. FrST exists as a dimer and can be classified as a TST rather than an MST according to sequence-based clustering and enzyme activity. Furthermore, the discovery of activity over a wide temperature range and the broad substrate specificity exhibited by FrST suggest promising prospects for its utilization in industrial applications, such as the detoxification of cyanide.

Background The Heart Failure Association Pretest assessment, echocardiography and natriuretic peptide, functional testing and final aetiology (HFA-PEFF) score has been developed for diagnosing heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), which is frequently associated with atrial fibrillation (AF). We aimed to investigate whether preprocedural HFA-PEFF score could be used to predict clinical outcomes in patients with AF who underwent catheter ablation (CA).Methods Overall, 1679 patients with AF who underwent primary CA (71±10 years, 1218 males (72.5%), median follow-up duration 3.3 years) from July 2011 to December 2019 were included in this retrospective study. HFpEF was defined as an HFA-PEFF score ≥5. The primary study outcome was 5-year major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (MACCE), which is a composite of all-cause death, hospitalisation for heart failure (HF) and hospitalisation for stroke.Results The prevalence of HFpEF was 32.3%, but only 7.7% were diagnosed with HF at the time of CHADS2 scoring. Blue light can reach the epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis of the skin and affect the physiology of each cell type. However, thus far, most studies have focused on the effects of blue light on the epidermis and dermis; no studies have been conducted on the effects of blue light on the hypodermis. In this study, we attempted to elucidate the effects of blue light on the hypodermis. Specifically, we investigated the effects of blue light on 3T3-L1 adipogenesis and its mechanism of action. In this study, we found that blue light reduced lipid accumulation and GPDH activity, indicating its antiadipogenic properties. Furthermore, blue light inhibited the mRNA and protein levels of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) and its target genes, such as Fasn and FABP4, and the luciferase activity of the PPRE promoter, suggesting that blue light downregulates the expression of adipogenic genes, leading to suppression of 3T3-L1 adipogenesis. Furthermore, blue light increased the phosphorylation of PPARγ, indicating its anti-adipogenic effect through PPARγ degradation. Blue light upregulates the expression and phosphorylation of transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1). Furthermore, blue light restored calcium influx, which was attenuated by adipogenesis. These data suggest that TRPV1 is involved in the anti-adipogenic effects of blue light. Blue light induced the phosphorylation of AMPK, ACC, and MAPKs, whereas capsazepine, an antagonist of TRPV1, attenuated the effects of blue light. Capsazepine treatment also reduced the blue light-induced anti-adipogenic effects. These results indicate that TRPV1 operates upstream of AMPK or MAPKs in the blue light-induced anti-adipogenesis process, which is mediated by activating the TRPV1-AMPK/MAPK signaling pathways. Meanwhile, inhibition of AMPK and MAPKs reduced the phosphorylation level of PPARγ, indicating that AMPK/MAPK signaling contributes to the phosphorylation of PPARγ. These results suggest the possibility of using blue light as an antiadipogenic agent.

Background: Eunkyosan (EKS) and Samsoeum (SSE), which are called Yin qiao san and Shen su yin in Chinese, are commonly used herbal medicines for the common cold in East Asian countries. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of EKS and SSE for treating the common cold. Methods: A randomized, patient-assessor-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel, and multicenter clinical trial was conducted. Adult participants who had one or more cold within 48 h before screening, were randomly allocated to EKS, SSE, or placebo groups. The recruitment goal was planned to be 375 participants. They took an EKS, SSE, or placebo, thrice daily for up to 8 days. The primary outcome was the change in the total score of the Wisconsin Upper Respiratory Symptom Scale-21-Korean version (WURSS-21-K) on day 6 compared to the baseline. The secondary outcomes included visual analog scale (VAS) scores and the duration of symptoms was assessed throughout the trial. Results: A total of 128 participants were enrolled and 44, 42, and 42 were allocated to the EKS, SSE, and placebo groups, respectively. This study was prematurely terminated due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and we were unable to recruit all the planned participants (n = 375). EKS showed significant clinical effectiveness over the placebo group in the treatment of the common cold, as assessed by the total, symptom, and quality of life scores of WURSS-21-K and VAS, whereas SSE showed significant improvement over the placebo group in terms of WURSS-21-K symptom score. No severe adverse events were reported. Conclusions: Although EKS and SSE demonstrated statistically significant clinical effectiveness and safety in patients with the common cold, we failed to recruit our pre-planned number of participants. Future definitive full-scale studies are needed to confirm these results. Trial registration: ClinicalTrials. gov, registration number: NCT04073511. Registered on 29 August 2019.

PURPOSE This study examined the effect of anticipatory control strategies on stable upright posture and consistency in archery performance among skilled elite archers. METHODS Nine skilled archery players participated in this study and performed repeated shooting trials under two different shooting conditions: clicker and non-clicker. In the clicker condition, archers shot in response to clicker signals, whereas in the non-clicker condition, they used an anticipatory strategy to determine shooting time in a self-paced manner without using the clicker. A motion capture system with six infrared cameras was used to measure the coordinates of the bow and archers’ hands, which were then used to calculate the aiming precision index and draw-related variables. Electromyography of the lower leg muscles and the center of pressure (COP) were also analyzed for a short period immediately before release to determine the differences in anticipatory postural adjustments (APAs) between the two shooting conditions. RESULTS The non-clicker condition resulted in a relatively short drawing duration and better precision index. The COP speed rapidly increased immediately before the release (i.e., APAs), and the rate of increase was lower in the non-clicker condition than in the clicker shooting condition. Furthermore, smaller APAs were significantly correlated with better-aiming precision in the non-clicker condition. CONCLUSION These findings suggest that using an anticipatory strategy rather than reacting to a clicker can improve archery performance consistency by reducing APA and ensuring a stable shooting posture. This strategy can be used in archery training to predict clicker signals during the aim-release stage.

Liquid crystals (LCs) offer a promising playground for developing reconfigurable radio frequency devices due to their unique dielectric properties, including large birefringence and tunability. Previous research on reconfigurable phase shifters has primarily focused on studying loss, response, and tunability. However, the influence of surface-enforced alignment on LC remains an area that requires further exploration. Here, we designed a phase shifter using twisted nematic aligned cells. To characterize the phase-shifting behavior of the nematic LC, we employed the transmission line method within the frequency range of 5 to 8 GHz and extracted the dynamic electrical parameters. Numerical simulations based on finite element methods were conducted to predict the alignment of LC molecules and the propagation of waves within the test cell. The phase shifter achieved a phase difference of $\sim $ 220° by applying a bias voltage to the LC. In particular, we compare the dynamic response of the phase shifter and a twisted LC configuration having a chiral dopant that responds 10 times faster than the homogeneous mode.

Abstract There is a paucity of data on management strategies and clinical outcomes after recurrent venous thromboembolism (VTE). In a multicenter registry enrolling 3027 patients with acute symptomatic VTE, the current study population was divided into the following 3 groups: (1) First recurrent VTE during anticoagulation therapy (N = 110); (2) First recurrent VTE after discontinuation of anticoagulation therapy (N = 116); and (3) No recurrent VTE (N = 2801). PURPOSE Neuromarketing measures and analyzes the unconscious response of consumer brain waves to marketing stimuli in real time. This study examined how a sensational scene (accident) in a sport game influences the sponsorship effects through electroencephalography (EEG) analysis. METHODS The current study uses an experimental method. First, as an experimental stimulus, a video of F1 racing edited in a total of 9 min and 39 s was used, and an accident scene was inserted in the middle of the video. A total of 46 people participated in the experiment, and all participants watched the F1 video, including the accident scene. Participants' brain waves were observed in two prefrontal and two occipital lobes. The relationship between scene sensation and sponsorship effect was analyzed based on alpha waves and the sponsor brand recall measured by questionnaires. RESULTS First, the accident scene of the race caused the power of alpha wave to be abruptly reduced (i.e., alpha blocking). Second, the difference between the alpha power level of the group that recalled the sponsor brand and that of the group that did not recall was statistically insignificant; hence, the hypothesis was rejected. Third, the right-brain dominance (negative emotion) in the accident scene of the race was statistically insignificant; therefore, the hypothesis was rejected. Finally, the group that recalled the sponsor brand showed a left-brain dominance (positive emotion), which was statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS This study confirmed the marketing communication and neuromarketing theories on the sponsorship effects created by stimulation, attention, and memory in a sport sponsorship setting, observing alpha blocking phenomena in a sensational scene (accidents). In addition, it was revealed that the group that watched the same accident scene relatively positively and exited remembered the sponsor brand better than the group that did not watch it. The result implied that sport fan’s personal trait (e.g., sensation seeking) to sensation in sponsorship activities affects the sponsorship effect. The results also emphasized the importance of selecting target customers of sports fans in sponsorship to maximize sponsorship effects.

Abstract Knowledge of the factors affecting the difference in kinetics and longevity of the neutralizing antibody (nAb) response to SARS-CoV-2 is necessary to properly prioritize vaccination. In the present study, from March to December 2020, of the 143 patients who recovered from COVID-19, 87 underwent study visits scheduled every 3 months. Patient demographics and blood samples were collected followed by a plaque reduction neutralization test to analyze nAb titers. Abstract Background Generally, bacteria have a circular genome with a single replication origin for each replicon, whereas archaea and eukaryotes can have multiple replication origins in a single chromosome. In Escherichia coli, bidirectional DNA replication is initiated at the origin of replication (oriC) and arrested by the 10 termination sites (terA–J). Results We constructed E. coli derivatives with additional or ectopic replication origins, which demonstrate the relationship between DNA replication and cell physiology. The cultures of E. coli derivatives with multiple replication origins contained an increased fraction of replicating chromosomes and the cells varied in size. Without the original oriC, E. coli derivatives with double ectopic replication origins manifested impaired growth irrespective of growth conditions and enhanced cell size, and exhibited excessive and asynchronous replication initiation. The generation time of an E. coli strain with three replication origins decreased in a minimal medium supplemented with glucose as the sole carbon source. As well as cell growth, the introduction of additional replication origins promoted increased biomass production. Conclusions Balanced cell growth and physiological stability of E. coli under rapid growth condition are affected by changes in the position and number of replication origins. Additionally, we show that, for the first time to our knowledge, the introduction of replication initiation sites to the chromosome promotes cell growth and increases protein production.

Abstract Background Although high efficacy of laser balloon (LB) ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF) has been shown, the conventional point‐by‐point technique requires a long procedure time. We investigated the clinical effectiveness of the manual dragging laser technique. Methods We enrolled 51 consecutive patients with paroxysmal AF who underwent pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) using first‐generation LB (LB1) at our institution. The first 25 patients underwent PVI using a point‐by‐point laser irradiation maneuver (point‐by‐point group). The latter 26 patients underwent PVI using a manually dragging laser irradiation maneuver (dragging group). The power and delivery time for the laser energy were selected from a preset protocol with 5.5–12 W and 20–30 s for each application. The dragging irradiation method was performed by manually rotating approximately 1.5°/s during one irradiation application. Results PVI was successful in all cases. The factors that control the partial pressure of carbon dioxide (pCO2) in the Pacific sector of the Southern Ocean were investigated in April 2018, onboard the icebreaker, ARAON. The mean (± 1σ) of the sea surface pCO2 was estimated to be 431 ± 6 μatm in the north of the Ross Sea (NRS), 403 ± 18 μatm in the Amundsen–Bellingshausen Sea (ABS), and 426 ± 16 μatm in the western Antarctic Peninsula and Weddell Sea (WAP/WS). The controlling factors for pCO2 in the NRS appeared to be meridionally different based on the southern boundary of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (SB; ~62.5°S in the Ross Sea). The sea surface pCO2 exhibited a strong correlation with salinity and the difference between the O2/Ar (ΔO2/Ar) values of the sample and air-saturated water in the north and south of the SB, respectively. The pCO2 in the ABS and western WAP/WS displayed a strong correlation with salinity. Furthermore, ΔO2/Ar and sea ice formation appear to be the dominant factors that control pCO2 in the Confluence Zone (CZ) and northern parts of WAP/WS. The estimated air–sea CO2 fluxes (positive and negative values indicate the source and sink for atmospheric CO2, respectively) range from 3.1 to 18.8 mmol m−2 d−1 in the NRS, −12.7 to 17.3 mmol m−2 d−1 in the ABS, and −59.4 to 140.8 mmol m−2 d−1 in the WAP/WS. In addition, biology-driven large variations in the air–sea CO2 flux were observed in the CZ. Our results are the most recent observation data acquired in austral autumn in the Southern Ocean.

Infiltrative lipomas, which are locally invasive tumors composed of well-differentiated adipocytes, are histologically identical to lipomas but have a tendency to infiltrate adjacent muscle and fibrous tissue without metastasis, such as muscle; connective tissue; bone; and, in rare cases, peripheral nerves and the spinal cord. They differ from liposarcomas yet also exhibit neoplastic cell infiltration and often recur despite surgical removal. A 10-year-old spayed Maltese female dog presented with hindlimb paresis and back pain for two months. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed an extensive fatty mass impinging on the vertebral canal, compressing the spinal cord, and extending into the surrounding muscle layers and thoracic cavity. The mass was surgically removed, and subsequent postoperative computed tomography confirmed complete removal of the mass using Vitrea® advanced visualization fat measurement. Histopathological analysis confirmed that the mass was an infiltrative lipoma. The patient’s symptoms completely resolved after surgery, with no recurrence reported at the 2-year follow-up. This case highlights the benefits of using postoperative computed tomography combined with the automated fat measurement technique to determine whether reoperation is necessary or to predict patient prognosis by identifying potential residual lipoma post-surgery.

Abstract Herein, we report an exotic domain-wall dynamics showing double Walker breakdowns in magnetic multilayer films composed of two magnetic layers. Such multiple Walker breakdowns are attributed to the internal magnetic dipole field, which is antisymmetric on the domain walls of the lower and upper magnetic layers. A micromagnetic simulation shows four phases of the domain-wall dynamics, which result in a phase diagram with the phase boundaries of the double Walker breakdown fields. Such double Walker breakdowns lead to two minima in the variation of the domain-wall velocity, as often observed experimentally.

Background The natural history and optimal interventional timing in patients with isolated severe tricuspid regurgitation (TR) have not been well studied. This study aimed to investigate long‐term clinical outcomes and risk factors associated with poor prognosis in patients with isolated severe TR. Methods and Results Consecutive transthoracic echocardiographic examinations in 2877 patients with isolated severe TR were retrospectively reviewed. Patients with significant left‐sided valve disease or repeated examinations were excluded. Primary outcome was defined as a composite of all‐cause death and hospitalization for heart failure. Among the 613 enrolled patients (mean age, 74±13 years; men, 38%), 141 died, and 62 were hospitalized for heart failure during the median follow‐up period of 26.5 (interquartile range, 6.0–57.9) months. The 5‐year event‐free rate was 60.1%. TR pressure gradient (adjusted hazard ratio [HR], 1.03 [95% CI, 1.01–1.04]), blood urea nitrogen (adjusted HR, 1.02 [95% CI, 1.01–1.04]), left atrial volume index (adjusted HR, 1.01 [95% CI, 1.002–1.02]), and serum albumin (adjusted HR, 0.56 [95% CI, 0.36–0.95]) were identified as independent predictors of adverse events. ABSTRACT Adaptation through the fitness landscape may be influenced by the gene pool or expression network. However, genetic factors that determine the contribution of beneficial mutations during adaptive evolution are poorly understood. In this study, we experimentally evolved wild-type Escherichia coli K-12 MG1655 and its isogenic derivative that has two additional replication origins and shows higher background fitness. During the short time of experimental evolution, the fitness gains of the two E. coli strains with different fitness backgrounds converged. Populational genome sequencing revealed various mutations with different allele frequencies in evolved populations. Several mutations occurred in genes affecting transcriptional regulation (e.g., RNA polymerase subunit, RNase, ppGpp synthetase, and transcription termination/antitermination factor genes). When we introduced mutations into the ancestral E. coli strains, beneficial effects tended to be lower in the ancestor with higher initial fitness. Replication rate analysis showed that the various replication indices do not correlate with the growth rate. Transcriptome profiling showed that gene expression and gene ontology are markedly enriched in populations with lower background fitness after experimental evolution. Further, the degree of transcriptional change was proportional to the fitness gain. Thus, the evolutionary trajectories of bacteria with different fitness backgrounds can be complex and counterintuitive. Notably, transcriptional change is a major contributor to adaptability. IMPORTANCE Predicting the adaptive potential of bacterial populations can be difficult due to their complexity and dynamic environmental conditions. Also, epistatic interaction between mutations affects the adaptive trajectory. Nevertheless, next-generation sequencing sheds light on understanding evolutionary dynamics through high-throughput genome and transcriptome information. Experimental evolution of two E. coli strains with different background fitness showed that the trajectories of fitness gain, which slowed down during the later stages of evolution, became convergent. This suggests that the adaptability of bacteria can be counterintuitive and that predicting the evolutionary path of bacteria can be difficult even in a constant environment. In addition, transcriptional change is associated with fitness gain during the evolutionary process. Thus, the adaptability of cells depends on their intrinsic genetic capacity for a given evolutionary period. This should be considered when genetically engineered bacteria are optimized through adaptive evolution.

Several studies in humans have provided detailed descriptions of the anatomy of the pulmonary veins (PVs) and their ostia for the implementation of thoracic interventions, such as radiofrequency ablation, for patients with atrial fibrillation. These studies have shown that electrocardiography (ECG)-gated multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) can evaluate the dimensional variations in the PVs or ostium according to the cardiac cycle. However, few studies have examined the PVs or ostia using MDCT in veterinary medicine. Therefore, this study investigated the variation in the diameter of the PV ostium in cats during the cardiac cycle using ECG-gated MDCT and determined the correlation between the size of the heart or left atrium (LA) and diameter of the PV ostium. This study included six cats, including five normal animals and one cat with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The PVs were found to drain into the LA via three ostia, i.e., the right cranial ostium, left cranial ostium, and caudodorsal ostium. Moreover, a diametric variation was observed in all PV ostia according to the cardiac cycle phase on ECG-gated MDCT: the maximal diameter was observed at the end of ventricular systole, and the minimal diameter was observed at the end of ventricular diastole for each PV ostium. There were no significant correlations between the heart or LA size and maximal or minimal diameter of each of the three PV ostia (p > 0.05); however, the enlargement of each PV ostium at the end of ventricular systole differed significantly from that at the end of ventricular diastole. This study suggested the clinical feasibility of ECG-gated MDCT in providing more detailed anatomical information about the PVs, including the dimensional changes during the cardiac cycle in cats. Based on this study, knowledge of the variations in the PV ostium offers interesting avenues for research into the effect of PV function. Furthermore, ECG-gated MDCT could allow for greater clinical application of interventional procedures in animals with various cardiac diseases.

Type-C liquid metal embrittlement (LME) crack refers to an internal crack in the heat-affected zone near the notch area. In contrast to type-A and type-B LME, the type-C LME has rarely been studied for its effect on the mechanical properties of the metal. This study investigates the effects of type-C LME on uniaxial tension and high-cycle fatigue behaviors of transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) steel joined using resistance spot welding (RSW). The mechanical properties of the steel sample were evaluated in two deformation modes of tensile shear (TS) and cross-tension (CT). Type-C LME cracks barely affected the tensile behavior in both deformation modes. In case of cyclic loading, their influence varied based on the deformation mode. Pre-cracks in a corona bond exhibited a higher contribution to fatigue fracture than did the LME cracks in the TS mode. However, the contribution of LME cracks increased in the CT mode owing to an increase in the local stress concentration. Consequently, unlike type-A and type-B LMEs, type-C LME affected the high-cycle fatigue resistance of the RSW-processed TRIP steel.

Background: Although balloon-based ablation catheters are expected to improve the feasibility and quality of pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF), they must be introduced to physicians in the proper setting to ensure their correct usage. Objective: To identify the optimal clinical settings for learning the techniques for 3 balloon-based ablation catheters (Cryoballoon, Hotballoon, and Laserballoon). Methods: We introduced 3 balloon catheters in 50 consecutive patients with paroxysmal AF each during the introduction periods. Clinical parameters were compared among the groups and between these groups and their steady-state controls. Results: The completion rate of PVI by sole balloon procedures was 56% with the Hotballoon catheter, which was lower than those of the Cryoballoon and Laserballoon catheters (each 88%). Radiofrequency touch-up was most frequently required at the bottom aspect of the inferior pulmonary veins (PVs) in the Cryoballoon group and at the anterior aspect of the superior PVs in the Hotballoon and Laserballoon groups. ObjectivesFew studies have directly compared the clinical feasibility of electrocardiography-gated and non-electrocardiography-gated multidetector computed tomography for evaluating coronary arteries in veterinary medicine. We aimed to characterize and visualize feline coronary arteries using these two imaging modalities. We hypothesed that ECG-gated MDCT is superior to or advantageous to the non-ECG gated.MethodsThis prospective, controlled, comparative pilot study examined six client-owned cats (five clinically normal and one with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) using non-electrocardiography-gated and retrospective electrocardiography-gated scans. Optimal non-electrocardiography scan timing or electrocardiography-gated R-R reconstruction interval for coronary artery visualization was determined. The degree of opacification and sharpness of proximal coronary branches was subjectively graded; coronary dominance, left coronary artery branching types, and the diameter and length of coronary artery branches were also assessed.ResultsNon-electrocardiography-gated images provided the least information on the bilateral coronary artery ostium and proximal segments, while electrocardiography-gated images clarified the detailed course of the main coronary branches at diastole in all cats. The degree of opacification and sharpness of the coronary arteries was subjectively evaluated as good/excellent in all cats. Coronary dominance (left: four; right: two) and left coronary artery branching types (three different patterns, two additional tortuous branches) varied. Body weight and sex were not significantly associated with coronary artery length or diameter. Vertebral heart score positively correlated with the right coronary artery and negatively correlated with the left main coronary artery.Clinical significanceElectrocardiography-gated multidetector computed tomography provides images with adequate resolution to identify the anatomy of feline coronary arteries. Detailed morphological knowledge of feline coronary vessels will enable novel diagnostic and therapeutic methods in veterinary medicine.

Biotic and abiotic Fe(III) reduction of clay minerals (illite IMt-1) under low-temperature (0 and 4°C, pH 6) was studied to evaluate the effects of bioalteration on soil properties including clay structure and elemental composition. The extent of Fe reduction in bioreduced samples (∼3.8 % at 4°C and ∼3.1 % at 0°C) was lower than abiotic reduction (∼7.6 %) using dithionite as a strong reductant. However, variations in the illite crystallinity value of bioreduced samples (°Δ2θ = 0.580–0.625) were greater than those of abiotic reduced samples (°Δ2θ = 0.580–0.601), indicating that modification of crystal structure is unlikely to have occurred in abiotic reduction. Moreover, precipitation of secondary-phase minerals such as vivianite [Fe2+3(PO4)2⋅8H2O] and nano-sized biogenic silica were shown as evidence of reductive dissolution of Fe-bearing minerals that is observed only in a bioreduced setting. Our observation of a previously undescribed microbe–mineral interaction at low-temperature suggests a significant implication for the microbially mediated mineral alteration in Arctic permafrost, deep sea sediments, and glaciated systems resulting in the release of bioavailable Fe with an impact on low-temperature biogeochemical cycles.

In Federated Learning (FL), a global statistical model is developed by encouraging mobile users to perform the model training on their local data and aggregating the output local model parameters in an iterative manner. However, due to limited energy and computation capability at the mobile devices, the performance of the model training is always at stake to meet the objective of local energy minimization. In this regard, Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC)-enabled FL addresses the tradeoff between the model performance and the energy consumption of the mobile devices by allowing users to offload a portion of their local dataset to an edge server for the model training. Since the edge server has high computation capability, the time consumption of the model training at the edge server is insignificant. However, the time consumption for dataset offloading from mobile users to the edge server has a significant impact on the total time consumed to complete a single round of FL process. Thus, resource management in MEC-enabled FL is challenging, where the objective is to reduce the total time consumption while saving the energy consumption of the mobile devices. In this article, we formulate an energy-aware resource management for MEC-enabled FL in which the model training loss and the total time consumption are jointly minimized, while considering the energy limitation of mobile devices. In addition, we recast the formulated problem as a Generalized Nash Equilibrium Problem (GNEP) to capture the coupling constraints between the radio resource management and dataset offloading. To that end, we analyze the impact of the dataset offloading and computing resource allocation on the model training loss, time, and the energy consumption. Finally, we present the convergence analysis of the proposed solution, and evaluate its performance against the traditional FL approach. Simulation results demonstrate the efficacy of our proposed solution approach.

Abstracts Purpose This study examined the issue of history-dependence on muscle excitation and oxygenation by using surface electromyography (EMG) and near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). Methods Eight male participants performed isometric knee extension force production tasks that started at four levels of initial force production (30, 40, 60, 70% of maximal voluntary contraction, MVC) and commonly converged to the production of 50% of MVC by increasing or decreasing knee extension forces. We quantified the integrated electromyogram (iEMG), total hemoglobin (tHb), and the desaturation rate of muscle tissue (TSISLOPE) of the vastus lateralis and compared the differences in the quantified variables between the experimental conditions. Results For the four levels of initial forces production, all the variables showed significant linear relationships with outcome forces. However, the magnitudes of the variables were varied depending on the contraction history at the terminal phase where the identical level of force production (50% of MVC) was required. At the terminal phase, the iEMG was affected by the time history of both mode (e.g., increment or decrement) and magnitude (e.g., 10% or 20% change of MVC), while the tHb and TSISLOPE showed significant differences between the time history of mode only. Conclusions The main result of the current study demonstrates the history-dependence of the changes in physiological demands in muscle activation. In particular, the indices of muscle excitation and oxygenation at the same level of force were varied depending on the time history of contraction, which implies the indices of muscle excitation and oxygenation may not be invariant component to specify the levels of outcome forces.

Background: The common cold is the most frequent acute respiratory illness that places a burden on society, both personally and economically. There is no standard therapy; only symptomatic therapy remains the mainstay of common cold treatment. Thus, interest in herbal medicines is on the rise. Eunkyosan and Samsoeum are used for the common cold in East Asian countries. Although Eunkyosan and Samsoeum are clinically used for the treatment of the common cold, their effectiveness and safety have yet to be studied. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate their effectiveness and safety. Methods: This study is a randomized, patient-assessor blind, controlled, parallel, and multicenter clinical trial. A total of 375 participants diagnosed with the common cold will be enrolled via four hospitals. The common cold patients will take a daily dose of Eunkyosan or Samsoeum or a placebo, three times a day for eight days. The primary outcome is the change in total Wisconsin Upper Respiratory Symptom Scale-21-Korean version (WURSS-21-K) score between baseline and six days. The secondary outcome includes the visual analogue scale (VAS). Safety is evaluated and adverse events are assessed throughout the trial. Written informed consent will be obtained from all study participants before enrollment. Discussion: This results will be published in a peer-reviewed journal and disseminated in related conferences. Recently fifth-generation (5G) of cellular networks appeared to enable various smart bandwidth thirsty applications. Frequency re-usability via device-to-device (D2D) communication is one of the possible ways to enhance the 5G network throughput. However, despite these technological advancements in cellular networks, users' Quality of Experience (QoE) is significantly affected by video quality adaptation according to future network conditions for video streaming. In this paper, we jointly formulate D2D pair association, video quality adaptation, and network resource allocation for scalable video streaming in a D2D communication network. The formulated problem is a mixed-integer linear programming problem and has a combinatorial nature. Thus, the formulated problem is decomposed into two subproblems: D2D pair association subproblem and resource allocation subproblem. The D2D pair association subproblem is a combinatorial optimization problem, to solve it a distributed algorithm is proposed based on two sided-matching theory. On the other hand, resource allocation subproblem is solved using conventional linear optimization techniques to get the boundary solution. Furthermore, a fully distributed quality adaptation scheme is presented using the proposed resource allocation algorithm for layered video. To validate the performance of our proposal, we perform numerical simulations for various scenarios.

The role of sea ice melting on the air-sea CO2 flux was investigated at two ice camps in the East Siberian Sea of the Arctic Ocean. On average, sea ice samples from the two ice camps had a total alkalinity (TA) of ∼108 and ∼31 μmol kg–1 and a corresponding salinity of 1.39 and 0.36, respectively. A portion (18–23% as an average) of these sea ice TA values was estimated to exist in the sea ice with zero salinity, which indicates the excess TA was likely attributed to chemical (CaCO3 formation and dissolution) and biological processes in the sea ice. The dilution by sea ice melting could increase the oceanic CO2 uptake to 11–12 mmol m–2 d–1 over the next 21 days if the mixed layer depth and sea ice thickness were assumed to be 18.5 and 1.5 m, respectively. This role can be further enhanced by adding TA (including excess TA) from sea ice melting, but a simultaneous release of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) counteracts the effect of TA supply. In our study region, the additional impact of sea ice melting with close to unity TA:DIC ratio on air-sea CO2 exchange was not significant.

Urban particulate matter (UPM) causes skin aging and inflammatory reactions by influencing skin cells through the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) signaling pathway. Porphyra yezoensis (also known as Pyropia yezoensis), a red alga belonging to the Bangiaceae family, is an edible red seaweed. Here, we examined the anti-pollutant effect of P. yezoensis water extract. While UPM treatment induced xenobiotic response element (XRE) promoter luciferase activity, P. yezoensis water extract reduced UPM-induced XRE activity. Next, we isolated an active compound from P. yezoensis and identified it as porphyra 334. Similar to the P. yezoensis water extract, porphyra 334 attenuated UPM-induced XRE activity. Moreover, although UPM augmented AhR nuclear translocation, which led to an increase in cytochrome P450 1A1 (CYP1A1) mRNA levels, these effects were reduced by porphyra 334. Moreover, UPM induced the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reduced cell proliferation. These effects were attenuated in response to porphyra 334 treatment. Furthermore, our results revealed that the increased ROS levels induced by UPM treatment induced transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) activity, which is related to skin aging and inflammatory responses. However, porphyra 334 treatment reduced this reaction by inhibiting ROS production induced by CYP1A1 activation. This indicates that porphyra 334, an active compound of P. yezoensis, attenuates UP-induced cell damage by inhibiting AhR-induced ROS production, which results in a reduction in TRPV1 activation, leading to cell proliferation. This also suggests that porphyra 334 could protect the epidermis from harmful pollutants.

Two-dimensional Ruddlesden–Popper (2DRP) perovskites are promising owing to their excellent environmental stability and competitive efficiency. During the fabrication process, 2DRP perovskites were often unintentionally exposed to light in the laboratory. However, the influence of light illumination on the surface structure of 2DRP during fabrication is unclear. Herein, the photodegradation of 2DRP perovskite (phenethylammonium lead iodide, PEA _2 PbI _4 ) is comprehensively investigated using x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and photoluminescence spectroscopy. We observed that only high-energy light, including that from a blue laser, air mass 1.5G, and notably, the daily used fluorescent lamp (FL) in the laboratory, significantly degraded PEA _2 PbI _4 . However, the red laser and ultraviolet-filtered FL, which had low energies, did not cause photodegradation. From this systematic study, we can explain the discrepancies in the surface morphologies previously studied. For instance, randomly oriented nanorod or rough surface of PEA _2 PbI _4 mostly stems from photodegradation. We observed that photodegradation occurred more strongly when the films were illuminated during annealing than when they were illuminated after all fabrication processes were completed. We suggest that this difference stems from the completeness of the structure and the photodegraded PbI _2 passivation effect. Our study provides two key guidelines for the fabrication of PEA _2 PbI _4 films. The daily-use FL in the laboratory must be avoided for high-quality samples, and dark conditions are highly recommended, at least during the annealing process.

Recently, HD maps have become important parts of autonomous driving, from localization to perception and path planning. For the practical application of HD maps, it is significant to regularly update environmental changes in HD maps. Conventional approaches require expensive mobile mapping systems and considerable manual work by experts, making it difficult to achieve frequent map updates. In this paper, we show how frequent and automatic updates of lane marking in HD maps are made possible with enormous crowdsourced data. Crowdsourced data is acquired from onboard low-cost sensing devices installed on many city buses and taxis in Seoul, South Korea. A large amount of crowdsourced data is daily accumulated on the server. The quality of sensor measurement is not very high due to the limited performance of low-cost devices. Therefore, the technical challenge is to overcome the uncertainty of the crowdsourced data. Appropriately filtering out a large amount of low-quality data is a significant problem. The proposed HD map update strategy comprises several processing steps including pose correction, observation assignment, observation clustering, and landmark classification. The proposed HD map update strategy is experimentally verified using crowdsourced data. If the changed environments are successfully extracted, then precisely updated HD maps are generated.

Abstract Current chemistry climate models do not include polar emissions and chemistry of halogens. This work presents the first implementation of an interactive polar module into the very short‐lived (VSL) halogen version of the Community Atmosphere Model with Chemistry (CAM‐Chem) model. The polar module includes photochemical release of molecular bromine, chlorine, and interhalogens from the sea‐ice surface, and brine diffusion of iodine biologically produced underneath and within porous sea‐ice. It also includes heterogeneous recycling of inorganic halogen reservoirs deposited over fresh sea‐ice surfaces and snow‐covered regions. The polar emission of chlorine, bromine, and iodine reach approximately 32, 250, and 39 Gg/year for Antarctica and 33, 271, and 4 Gg/year for the Arctic, respectively, with a marked seasonal cycle mainly driven by sunlight and sea‐ice coverage. Model results are validated against polar boundary layer measurements of ClO, BrO, and IO, and satellite BrO and IO columns. This validation includes satellite observations of IO over inner Antarctica for which an iodine “leapfrog” mechanism is proposed to transport active iodine from coastal source regions to the interior of the continent. The modeled chlorine and bromine polar sources represent up to 45% and 80% of the global biogenic VSLCl and VSLBr emissions, respectively, while the Antarctic sea‐ice iodine flux is ~10 times larger than that from the Southern Ocean. We present the first estimate of the contribution of polar halogen emissions to the global tropospheric halogen budget. CAM‐Chem includes now a complete representation of halogen sources and chemistry from pole‐to‐pole and from the Earth's surface up to the stratopause.
