We aimed to examine whether a participant’s degree of moralisation towards a topic, independent of their attitude strength, predicted the extent to which they make dispositional versus situational attributions to opposing others, using Jones and Harris’ (1967) attitude attribution paradigm. We conducted a prior study that demonstrated that moral conviction was associated with a general tendency to make character attributions, highlighting an increased tendency to make the FAE. However, we also found that the relationship between moral conviction and attributions was not differentiated by the choice condition in this prior study. We therefore removed the free choice condition in the current study. This study aimed to build upon the prior study by using a strengthened character attributions measure and a counterpart situational attribution measure, while also keeping the attitude attribution measure. To replicate previous findings that moralisation leads to feeling colder towards, and desiring more social distance from, opponents (Garrett & Bankert, 2020; Skitka et al., 2005), we added a feeling thermometer and social distance scale. Also included was a moral traits measure, with the aim of assessing whether moral conviction influences the nature of trait attributions.

The current study will explore the relationship between inequality and moral expansiveness in a multi-national dataset. All details (methods, hypotheses and results) are seen in the Wiki.

This research is part of a broader set of studies investigating the existence and development of loss aversion in young children. Loss aversion is a tendency to avoid losses more than we approach equivalent gains because psychologically we are more negatively affected by losses than we are positively affected by gains. We will test whether loss aversion affects risky decision making in children by replicating a study by Steelandt et al. (2013) with a less complicated design to discern the existence of loss aversion in even younger children.

The current study examines children's experience and reactions to high and low inequality. Particularly, we are interested in how these factors impact children's altruistic donation behaviour, their resource division behaviour and their perceptions of fairness.

Based on the finding by Bastian et al. (2019), the current study aims to examine whether an environmental consequence and highlighting the human-like abilities of trees (via the use of an auditory narrative) has the potential to increase cooperative behaviour in a resource dilemma.

When do children show preferences compatible with negotiation? Negotiation is an interpersonal process that can be used to accomplish goals one cannot achieve on their own, by generating value through exchange (Thompson, Wang, & Gunia, 2010). An ideal negotiation outcome involves the efficient allocation of resources, such that parties end up with more of what they want. In this sense, capacity for negotiation reveals another avenue for human cooperation and collaboration, and is currently an understudied in the developmental domain. We aim to address this limitation by observing the age at which children show preferences for mutual gain, and spontaneously engage in attempts for mutually beneficial exchange. Our prior study demonstrated that even three-year-olds can engage in negotiation when prompted to do so. However, children won’t engage in spontaneous negotiation until they reach the age of five.
