Abstract

The grey wolf (Canis lupus) was the first species to give rise to a domestic population, and they remained widespread throughout the last Ice Age when many other large mammal species went extinct. Little is known, however, about the history and possible extinction of past wolf populations or when and where the wolf progenitors of the present-day dog lineage (Canis familiaris) lived1–8. Here we analysed 72 ancient wolf genomes spanning the last 100,000 years from Europe, Siberia and North America. We found that wolf populations were highly connected throughout the Late Pleistocene, with levels of differentiation an order of magnitude lower than they are today. This population connectivity allowed us to detect natural selection across the time series, including rapid fixation of mutations in the gene IFT88 40,000–30,000 years ago. We show that dogs are overall more closely related to ancient wolves from eastern Eurasia than to those from western Eurasia, suggesting a domestication process in the east. However, we also found that dogs in the Near East and Africa derive up to half of their ancestry from a distinct population related to modern southwest Eurasian wolves, reflecting either an independent domestication process or admixture from local wolves. None of the analysed ancient wolf genomes is a direct match for either of these dog ancestries, meaning that the exact progenitor populations remain to be located. © 2022, The Author(s).

42. The curvature influence of the graphene nanoribbon on its sensory properties

Abstract

The results of the theoretical investigation of the curvature influence of the strained graphene nanoribbon on its sensory properties are presented in the given work. The attachment mechanisms of hydrogen atoms to the plane and the wavelike graphene nanoribbon are studied by the tight-binding method. For the first time it was established, that the sensory properties of nanoribbon improve with increase of the surface curvature. It was revealed, that the potential well depth of interaction of the curved graphene with hydrogen atom is greater than the planar graphene. It was established, that the difference of the potential minima of the C-H interaction energy increases exponentially with the curvature increase.

Abstract

We report the results of the chitosan dimer study, the mechanism of its interaction with the carbon nanostructures and also the mechanical properties of the chitosan/graphene, chitosan/nanotube complexes using the density function and the molecular dynamic methods. It was established that the physical adsorption of the chitosan with graphene is carried out by the Van der Waals interaction between the hexagonal links of the chitosan with the hexagonal cell of the atomic grid of graphene and nanotube.

Abstract

In vitro stimulation of mice spleen cells by means of glucosaminyl muramyl dipeptide (GMDP) was accompanied by development of tumor necrosis factor and of interleukin-I. The factor was detected in blood serum only after administration of GMDP simultaneously with lipopolysaccharide. GMDP activated peritoneal macrophages; the phenomenon was evaluated by means of the macrophages ability to kill tumoral cells P815 as well as by interleukin-I production after additional stimulation with lipopolysaccharide. At the same time, an increase in proliferating activity of spleen and bone marrow cells was observed. An increase of middle lifetime and recovery of 24% mice of C57BL/6 strain with leukosis EL-4 were observed after complex treatment of the animals with GMDP, lipopolysaccharide, cyclophosphane and indomethacin.
