The study aimed to investigate the reality of transitional services provided for deaf and hearing impaired students from their perspective at King Saud University. The study sample consisted of (77) deaf and hearing impaired students. The descriptive-analytical approach was followed. A questionnaire, author-prepared, on transition services status was administered to the sample. The findings revealed that participants' responses regarding "independent living skills" showed higher agreement with an average score of 3.57. Responses on the 'Translation unit services for deaf students' dimension came with a moderate degree of agreement, with a mean of (2.99). For "academic support services", responses demonstrated a higher level agreement with an average score of 3.60. Responses concerning "psychological support services" also indicated increased agreement with an average score of 3.49. Additionally, responses pertaining to "integration and community participation services" showed a high level of agreement with an average score of 3.57. The study concluded that there were no statistically significant differences in responses related to transitional services based on gender and age, however, there were statistically significant differences based on the degree of hearing loss, favoring the deaf. Meropenem is a widely used carbapenem for treating severe pediatric infections. However, few studies have assessed its pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics (PK/PD) in pediatric patients. This study aimed to evaluate the proportion of Saudi pediatric patients achieving the PK/PD target of meropenem. A prospective observational study was conducted at King Saud University Medical City from July to September 2022. Pediatric patients receiving meropenem for suspected or proven infections were included in the study. The primary outcome was the percentage of patients achieving the recommended PK/PD target for critically ill or non-critically ill pediatric patients. The study included 30 patients (nine neonates and 21 older pediatric patients). All neonates were critically ill. Among them, 55 % achieved the PK/PD target of 100 % free time above the MIC. In older ICU pediatric patients, only 11 % attained this target, whereas 58 % of older pediatrics in the general wards achieved the PK/PD target of 50 % free time above the MIC. Augmented renal clearance (ARC) was identified in 57 % of our pediatric patient population, none of whom achieved the recommended PK/PD targets. The median trough concentrations in patients with and without ARC were 0.75 and 1.3 μg/mL, respectively (P < 0.05). The majority of patients in our cohort did not achieve the PK/PD target for meropenem. ARC emerged as a major risk factor for target attainment failure in both critically ill and non-critically ill pediatric patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: In medical education, the learning environment (LE) significantly impacts students' professionalism and academic performance. Positive LE perceptions are linked to better academic outcomes. Our study, which was conducted 15 years after curriculum reform at King Saud University's College of Medicine, aimed to explore students' perspectives on their LE and identify areas for improvement. By understanding their experiences, we strive to enhance LE and promote academic success. Methods: This mixed-method study employed an explanatory sequential approach in which a cross-sectional analytical survey phase was collected first using the Johns Hopkins Learning Environment Scale (JHLES), followed by qualitative focus groups. Findings from quantitative and qualitative methods were integrated using joint display. Results: A total of 653 medical students completed the JHLES. The total average score was 81 out of 140 (16.8), and the average subscale scores ranged from 2.27 (0.95) for inclusion and safety to 3.37 (0.91) for community of peers. The qualitative approach encompasses both inductive and deductive analyses, identifying overarching themes comprising proudness, high expectations and competition, and views about the curriculum. The integration of results emphasizes the need for continued efforts to create a supportive and inclusive LE that positively influences students' experiences and academic success. Conclusion: This research offers valuable insights for educational institutions seeking to enhance medical education quality and support systems. Recommendations include faculty development, the cultivation of supportive environments, curriculum revision, improved mentorship programs, and initiatives to promote inclusivity and gender equity. Future research should explore longitudinal and comparative studies, innovative mixed methods approaches, and interventions to further optimize medical education experiences. Objective: Candida albicans (C. albicans), an opportunistic pathogen, is implicated in the carcinogenesis of various cancers, thereby significantly impacting human health. This study conducts an in-depth analysis of the prevailing research dynamics concerning the relationship between C. albicans and cancer over the past decade, offering a comprehensive overview of the knowledge structure and emerging focal points in this field through bibliometric scrutiny. Methods: A methodical quantitative and visual scrutiny of pertinent literature from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) spanning the previous decade was carried out employing VOS Viewer and CiteSpace software. Results: From January 1, 2014, to January 1, 2024, a comprehensive corpus of 1,259 articles was delineated. Prominent research institutions included the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, Cairo University, and King Saud University. The top three prolific countries were the United States, China, and India. Among the authors, Mohamed, Gehad G., Mahmoud, Walaa H., and Netea, Mihai G., emerged as the most prolific, with Pfaller, Ma being distinguished as the most frequently cited author. The journal Molecules published the highest number of articles, while PLoS One had the highest citation count. Nature had the highest impact factor. The research focal points in this field encompassed the interactions between C. albicans and cancer, the correlation with oral cancer, the underlying mechanisms of C. albicans carcinogenic potential, as well as antifungal and anticancer therapies. Conclusion: This investigation constitutes a pioneering bibliometric analysis elucidating the trends and advancements in research regarding the correlation between C. albicans and cancer. Summary: Water conservation is of particular importance for arid regions, including many Muslim-majority countries. With the added pressures of human population growth and expansion and global climate change, water conservation efforts are imperative to extending the life of current water supplies as well as to sourcing water treatment methods that are religiously congruent. We review Qur'anic verses that address water usage and conservation. We searched the English translations of the King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Qur'an and the King Saud University Electronic Moshaf Project for Qur'anic scripture related to water and water conservation. A total of 25 verses were found that related to creation, water usage for agriculture and food provision/production and as a common resource for humanity. Qur'anic scripture encourages gratitude for water and wise stewardship of this resource. Specific prohibitions against the reuse of water (e.g., treated water) were not found, and recent Islamic literature supports the use of cleansed greywater. Treated greywater may thus be an additional source for agricultural needs, thus reducing the stress placed on already limited water supplies. Water conservation falls within Qur'anic scripture. The first academic translation centre in Saudi Arabia was established in 1990 by King Saud University; since then, translation has been developing as a discipline in its own right. Despite the considerable attention given to bibliometric study of translation and interpreting (T&I) research in Translation Studies, the available literature to date has not explored the development of T&I journal articles in Saudi Arabia. This study aims to lay the groundwork for examining 30 years of Saudi T&I research activities by analysing the productivity of published journal articles between 1990 and 2019, prior to the establishment of The Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission (LPT) as a regulating body. The paper divides the examined period into three phases: early years (1990-1999), advances in academia (2000-2009) and advances in the industry (2010-2019). Drawing on bibliometric parameters of productivity, the dataset includes 180 journal articles collected primarily from King Fahad National Library and Scopus as well as three Arabic secondary sources. The findings suggest a significant increase of published articles in the third decade (2010-2019), a dominance of pedagogy-related studies during the three phases and shared patterns with contextual factors in Saudi Arabia; including the expansion of translation departments at universities and international scholarships. Purpose: The purpose of the present observational study was to assess the prevalence of radiographic alveolar bone loss (ABL) as a function of age at the Periodontics Clinics at the College of Dentistry, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Materials and Methods: Medical and dental healthcare records of individuals visiting the Periodontics Clinics at College of Dentistry, King Saud University, Riyadh Saudi Arabia were assessed. The following information was retrieved: age, gender, educational status, and systemic diseases (diabetes mellitus [DM], hypertension, osteoporosis and obesity). Digital full-mouth radiographs were retrieved from patients' dental records, and marginal bone loss (MBL) was assessed on the mesial and distal surfaces of all teeth. Logistic regression analyses (LRA) were done to assess the correlation between ABL and gender, age, educational status and duration since diagnosis of the aforementioned systemic conditions. p < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: In total, medical and periodontal healthcare records of 495 individuals were retrieved and assessed. All individuals were citizens of the KSA. Among these, 107 were healthy controls and 98, 95, 96 and 99 individuals had a medical diagnosis of type-2 DM, hypertension, obesity and osteoporosis, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference in the mean age and gender of all medically compromised participants. The prevalence of mild, moderate, and severe periodontitis in the total patient population was 51.4%, 37.5% and 36.5%, respectively. Among all healthy controls, the prevalence of mild, moderate, and severe periodontitis was 16.3%, 25.5% and 33.4%, respectively. There was no difference in the prevalence of mild, moderate, and severe periodontitis in relation to advancing age in the entire patient population. Conclusion: Advancing age did not seem to affect ABL in the present patient population. This study attempts to explore the relationship between the two mediator variables effective learning engagement and educational social media (SM) usage and the study's outcome measures, which include student satisfaction and learning performance. The distribution of a self-determination theory questionnaire with external factors to 293 university students served as the primary data collection method. King Saud University used a poll to personally collect data. Partial least squares structural equation modeling was then used to examine the data and assess the model in Smart-PLS. Students' academic success and contentment at colleges and universities seem to be positively correlated, and their active involvement in learning activities and educational use of SM. It was shown that important factors influencing affective learning participation and the instructional use of SM for teaching and learning include perceived competence, perceived autonomy, perceived relatedness, information sharing, and collaborative learning environments. It was discovered that these connections were important. The self-determination theory provided confirmation that this model is appropriate for fostering students' feelings of competence, autonomy, and relatedness in order to increase their affective learning involvement. Background. Several endodontic difficulty assessment forms are available to help dental students and general dentists estimate the difficulty of the case before initiating the endodontic treatment. Objectives. This study aimed to assess if the American Association of Endodontics (AAE) case difficulty assessment form affects the dental student's perception of the difficulty encountered while performing root canal treatment (RCT). Materials and Methods. This was a cross-sectional online survey. After obtaining IRB approval, an electronic questionnaire was sent to dental students enrolled in the 4th and 5th years at King Saud University (KSU) and King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The questionnaire was divided into informed consent, demographic data, the use of the AAE case assessment form, RCT steps, diagnosis, local anesthesia administration, tooth isolation, and endodontic procedure. Results. A total of 195 dental students participated in the study. There were 101 (52%) females, and 139 (71%) were from KSAU-HS. A positive association was found between students who used the AAE assessment form and who did not with their ability to reach the correct diagnosis (p = 0.005), tooth isolation (p = 0.03), and endodontic procedure difficulty score (p = 0.018). Conclusion. The use of the AAE form by dental students enabled them to differentiate between complicated and uncomplicated cases, thus lowering the difficulty encountered during RCT. Cancer remains a significant global health challenge, claiming nearly 10 million lives in 2020 according to the World Health Organization. In the quest for novel treatments, fungi, especially Aspergillus species, have emerged as a valuable source of bioactive compounds with promising anticancer properties. This study conducts a comprehensive bibliometric analysis to map the research landscape of Aspergillus in oncology, examining publications from 1982 to the present. We observed a marked increase in research activity starting in 2000, with a notable peak from 2005 onwards. The analysis identifies key contributors, including Mohamed GG, who has authored 15 papers with 322 citations, and El-Sayed Asa, with 14 papers and 264 citations. Leading countries in this research field include India, Egypt, and China, with King Saud University and Cairo University as the leading institutions. Prominent research themes identified are "endophyte," "green synthesis," "antimicrobial," "anti-cancer," and "biological activities," indicating a shift towards environmentally sustainable drug development. Our findings highlight the considerable potential of Aspergillus for developing new anticancer therapies and underscore the necessity for further research to harness these natural compounds for clinical use. Objective: Evaluation of contemporary disinfection techniques, Moringa Oleifera (M.Oleifera), Phycocyanin activated by photodynamic therapy (PDT), and Chitosan, on S.mutans survival rate and bond integrity of composite to carious-affected dentin (CAD). Methods: The in vitro study was conducted at King Saud University and concluded within three months. Sixty mandibular teeth with cavities extending to the middle third of the dentin were sterilized. S.mutans was inoculated onto the CAD surface of twenty samples. The samples were randomly divided into four groups (n: 15) based on various disinfection regimes. Group-1 received 2% CHX, Group-2 Phycocyanin activated by photodynamic therapy (PDT), Group-3 Chitosan, and Group-4 M.oleifera. S.mutans survival rate was calculated. Ten CAD samples from each group were restored using composite. The bond integrity of samples was assessed using a Universal testing machine (UTM) and failure mode using a stereomicroscope. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's Post Hoc test were used to calculate statistical significance (p=0.05). Results: Group-2 samples subjected to Phycocyanin activated using PDT, displayed minimal survival rate (0.24 ± 0.05 CFU/ml) of S.mutans.Group-1 samples treated with CHX exhibited the highest count of S.mutans (0.69 ± 0.12 CFU/ml). The most robust bond was observed in Group-3 (Chitosan) samples (19.33 ± 0.47 MPa). In contrast, SBS values were lowest in Group-1 (CHX) treated study samples (13.17 ± 1.88 MPa). Conclusion: Chitosan, Phycocyanin activated by PDT, and Moringa Oleifera extract exhibit potential as viable substitutes for chlorhexidine (CHX) in clinical settings, presenting the possibility of better eradication of S.mutans and greater adhesive strength to CAD. Patients and Methods: This study was conducted in two phases. First, the AxEL questionnaire was translated into Arabic and cross-culturally adapted. Second, the psychometric properties (such as validity) of the translated AxEL were evaluated. Results: The results showed that back translators and language specialists had no trouble translating the AxEL. The translators' agreement was very high (88.2%), and the questionnaire items were logically and clearly translated from English into Arabic. Conclusion: The Arabic version of AxEL is a valid tool that can assess individuals' beliefs and attitudes towards low back pain (LBP). It fills a significant void in cross-cultural research and can help healthcare providers understand the attitudes and beliefs influencing individuals' management of LBP within the Arabic context. Purpose: The main purpose of this study was to investigate to what extent the L2 Arabic learners' reading process is affected by the incomplete representation of speech (the absence of short vowels and diacritics) while reading ambiguous sentences (garden path sentences). Method: With a self-paced reading software program, 41 non-native male students, aged from 22 to 26, enrolled in King Saud University, participated in reading 44 sentences (followed by reading comprehension questions) representing three reading conditions, plain, vowelized-discretized, and wrongly-vowelized. Results: For the reading times data, the analysis revealed that the GP structure had a significant effect on the reading processes of L2 Arabic learners; it took them longer to read the GP sentences than their non-GP counterparts. For the reading comprehension, the analysis did not reveal any significant differences between the means for the percentages of correct responses. For the comparison between the three reading conditions, a significant difference was found: it took the participants on average less time to read the GP sentences when presented plain, and more time with the incorrect representation. However, their reading comprehension was not affected. Conclusion: In addition to the good-enough model and the nature of Arabic morphology, the reading experience, is a good candidate to start with as an important factor in the interpretation of the ineffectiveness of the GP structure on the reading comprehension process of Arabic readers, in which the segregability of Arabic writing system prepare the readers to emphasize some sensory inputs and ignore others based on their past reading experience. Background: SCD poses a significant healthcare burden. Understanding the factors contributing to high healthcare utilization and readmissions is crucial for improving the quality of care provided. Methods: This retrospective comparative observational study was conducted at King Saud University Medical City and included 160 SCD patients. A comparison was made between patients with no readmission and patients with at least one 30-day readmission. Another comparison was done between high healthcare-utilizing patients and low healthcare-utilizing patients. A regression model for 30-day readmission prediction was created. Results: Readmission was significantly higher in patients using opioids, following up with pain clinics, and having a history of AVN (p= 0.002, p=0.028 and p=0.025 respectively). Higher healthcare utilization was associated with older age, smoking, use of opioids and GABA analogs, and psychiatric illnesses, including depression, substance use disorder, and anxiety. Predictors of 30-day readmission were hydroxyurea use (odds ratio, 2.819 [95% CI,1.082 to 7.34], p = 0.034), follow-up with pain management clinics (odds ratio, 2.248 [95% CI,1.547 to 3.266], p = 0.001), and SCD genotype (SS genotype) (odds ratio, 1.754 [95% CI,1.012 to 3.042], p = 0.045). Using the Paracetamol/Codeine combination significantly reduced the likelihood of readmission within 30 days of discharge. Conclusion: This study identified factors associated with 30-day readmission rate and high healthcare utilization among SCD patients. Strategies to reduce readmissions may include specialized SCD clinics, educational programs for patients, improved physician awareness of mental health screening, and further research on the impact of opioid use. Limitations include retrospective nature, single-center design, reliance on self-reported data, and exclusion of critically ill patients. Background and Objectives. Blood tests are often indiscriminately requested in the Emergency department (ED) and many EDs have preset orders that are usually performed at triage before clinical assessment to improve the flow of patients through the department. We conducted this study to evaluate the frequency of requests for coagulation profile, the incidence of abnormal coagulation profiles and the unnecessary use of coagulation profile testing in our institution. Methods. This retrospective observational study, conducted in the ED of King Saud University Medical City (KSUMC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, during July and August of 2021(2 months) examined coagulation profile requests. Patients' demographic data (age and gender), medical and clinical history (presenting complaint, comorbidities, and diagnosis), the use of antiplatelets or anticoagulant agents and laboratory values for PT, APTT, and INR were collected. We calculated the total cost of unnecessary coagulation profile testing based on the independent assessment of two ED consultants. Results. Of 1,754 patients included in the study, 811 (46.2%) were males and 943 (53.8%) were females, with a mean age of 42.1 ± 18.5 years. There were 29 (1.7%) patients with liver disease and 21 (1.2%) patients had thromboembolic disease. The majority of the patients' results were within normal levels of PT (n = 1,409, 80.3%), APTT (n = 1,262, 71.9%), and INR (n = 1,711, 97.4%). Evidence of active bleeding was detected in 29 patients (1.7%). Among patients with bleeding only one had an abnormal INR (3.01) and was on warfarin. Forty-six (2.6%) patients had elevated INR level. Cohen's kappa between the two consultants was recorded at 0.681 (substantial agreement) in their assessment of the appropriateness of coagulation tests requests and both consultants believed that 1,051 tests (59.9%) were not indicated and were unnecessary. The expected annual cost saving if the unnecessary tests were removed would be around SAR 1,897,200 (approximately US$ 503,232) which is about SAR 180000 (US$ 48000)/1000 patients. Conclusion. This study showed that coagulation tests are overused in the ED. More than half of coagulation profile tests in our study population were deemed unnecessary and associated with significant cost. The main objective of this research is to monitor and analyze the features and characteristics of the image of the media department among its students, and the relationship of this image to their attitudes towards media specializations. This research comes within descriptive research, and the researcher used the questionnaire as a main tool in collecting data through a deliberate sample of 123 male and female students enrolled. In the media specialization, the study reached several results, the most important of which is that the majority of the sample was interested in following up the activities of the media department, and that males were more interested in following up it than females, And that the students were taking their sources of information about the Department of Media through social networking sites, and that they were not satisfied with the study packages provided to them, and they stressed the suitability of the subjects taught with the labor market, the good image of the faculty members in the department, and the importance of the practical application of the specializations, and there is also the exploitation of resources. Available for the application, students are satisfied with the devices in the department, their efficiency and readiness, and with the courses. It also became clear that there were statistically significant differences between the average of males and females in favor of males in their satisfaction with the academic courses. Researchers from all around the world have been paying close attention to particle-based power tower technologies. On the King Saud University campus in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the first integrated gas turbine–solar particle heating hybrid system has been realized. In this study, two different types of experiments were carried out to examine how susceptible prospective liner materials for thermal energy storage tanks were to erosion. An accelerated direct-impact test with high particulate temperature was the first experiment. A low-velocity mass-flow test was the second experiment, and it closely mimicked the flow circumstances in a real thermal energy storage tank. The tests were conducted on bare insulating fire bricks (IFBs) and IFBs coated with Tuffcrete 47, Matrigun 25 ACX, and Tuffcrete 60 M. The latter three lining materials were high-temperature-resilient materials made by Allied Mineral Products Inc. (AMP) (Columbus, OH, USA). The results showed that although IFBs coated with AMP materials worked well in this test, the accelerated direct-impact test significantly reduced the bulk of the bare IFB. As a result, lining substances must be added to the surface of IFBs to increase their strength and protection because they cannot be used in situations where particles directly impact their surface. On the other hand, the findings of the 60 h cold-particle mass-flow test revealed that the IFBs were not significantly eroded. Additionally, it was discovered that the degree of erosion on the samples of bare IFB was unaffected by the height of the particle bed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The main purpose of this study was to investigate to what extent the L2 Arabic learners' reading process is affected by the incomplete representation of speech (the absence of short vowels and diacritics) while reading ambiguous sentences (garden path sentences). Method: With a self-paced reading software program, 41 non-native male students, aged from 22 to 26, enrolled in King Saud University, participated in reading 44 sentences (followed by reading comprehension questions) representing three reading conditions, plain, vowelized-discretized, and wrongly-vowelized. Results: For the reading times data, the analysis revealed that the GP structure had a significant effect on the reading processes of L2 Arabic learners; it took them longer to read the GP sentences than their non-GP counterparts. For the reading comprehension, the analysis did not reveal any significant differences between the means for the percentages of correct responses. For the comparison between the three reading conditions, a significant difference was found: it took the participants on average less time to read the GP sentences when presented plain, and more time with the incorrect representation. However, their reading comprehension was not affected. Conclusion: In addition to the good-enough model and the nature of Arabic morphology, the reading experience, is a good candidate to start with as an important factor in the interpretation of the ineffectiveness of the GP structure on the reading comprehension process of Arabic readers, in which the segregability of Arabic writing system prepare the readers to emphasize some sensory inputs and ignore others based on their past reading experience. Purpose. The present study investigated the knowledge and practice of hand hygiene among entry-level nursing students at King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Participants and Methods: A cross-sectional, institutional-based study was conducted among Saudi nursing students over a period of four months at the King Saud University College of Nursing, using a structured, self-administered questionnaire that assessed demographics, knowledge, and the practice of hand washing. Results. A response rate of 95% was obtained. Of the 304 respondents, 66.1% (n = 201) were males. The majority of the students (94.2%) agreed that direct or indirect contact was the most important route for the transmission of healthcare-associated infection. In addition, most of the students washed their hands after contact with body secretions (89.5%), while 83.2% of them washed their hands before and after contact with patients. Furthermore, 83.6% of them applied soap water during hand washing, while 59.9% of the students used an alcohol-based hand rub for hand hygiene. Our results found that female students reported higher mean knowledge score of 10.09 ± 1.27, compared to male students 9.63 ± 1.48, indicating a significant association between the mean knowledge score of hand washing and gender (p = 0.004). Similarly, the mean practice score was higher among female students (5.00 ± 1.25), in comparison to male students 4.62 ± 1.46, with a significant association between gender and mean practice score (p = 0.037). Conclusion. The findings of this study revealed that Saudi nursing students exhibit adequate knowledge and practice of hand washing. However, the current findings revealed variation in the knowledge and practice scores with respect to gender. The present results could support students and health care professionals in improving their hygienic practice, which may help to provide the optimum therapeutic benefits to patients. Aim: This study aims to explore various factors that affect students' satisfaction regarding postgraduate agricultural programs and the likelihood of recommending such programs to others. Methods: Data were collected using structured paper-based questionnaires from a random sample of 127 students who were undertaking master and doctoral programs in eight different disciplines within agricultural sciences at King Saud University. Results: The findings showed that majority of the students expressed high academic learning experiences and were satisfied with their program of study. Multiple regression analysis revealed that students' academic learning experience, faculty support, and the rationale for attending the university had significant positive influence on their satisfaction with the enrolled programs. Moreover, the students' satisfaction and faculty support also showed significant positive correlation with their likelihood to recommend agricultural programs to others. Suggestions: In order to further enhance the impact of agricultural programs, we suggest improvements in the university curriculum as well as faculty services to make current agricultural programs up-to-date and relevant to meet the kingdom's national agricultural and human resource development goals. There should be a particular focus on enhancing students' research and written communication skills as postgraduate agricultural programs entail a significant component of these highly essential skills. This study explored preservice special education teachers' perceptions regarding special education teacher preparation courses, practicum, and evidence-based practices they recently completed. The participants of the study included five preservice special education teachers from two universities, Shaqra University and King Saud University, in Riyadh. A variety of qualitative interview designs, such as semi-structured interviews and in-depth interviews were employed to gather the data. This involved conducting a total of 15 interviews. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. Additionally, peer debriefing and member checks were used to increase the credibility of the study and help prevent personal bias. The study aimed to explore the perceptions of five preservice special education teachers specializing in autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disabilities regarding their experiences in special education teacher preparation in Riyadh universities. The findings revealed that the five preservice special education teachers identified the issues they faced during their 4 years in teachers preparation programs as: (a) limited content of educational strategies and Evidence-Based Practices (b) classroom communication was one-sided (c) redundant content in textbooks (d) course content is focused on theory instead of practical knowledge (e) lack of supervision by their faculty adviser and school members during the practicum. Objectives/Hypothesis: To assess the efficacy of 0.23% povidone-iodine (PVP-I) nasal rinses and mouth washes on detectability of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) virus and cycle threshold (Ct) values in nasopharyngeal swabs. Study design: This was an open-label, prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial. Setting: The study was conducted in King Saud University Medical City, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from August 2021 to July 2022. Methods: Participants diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 were randomly assigned to one of three groups, with participants receiving either 0.23% PVP-I, 0.9% normal saline (NS) nasal rinses and mouth washes, or no intervention (control group). Nasopharyngeal swabs were taken 4, 8, 12, and 18 days after the first swab to measure the detectability of the virus and the Ct. Results: A total of 19 participants were involved in this study. The mean viral survival was 9.8, 12, and 12.6 days for the PVP-I, NS, and control groups, respectively, with a statistically significant difference (p = 0.046). The Ct mean values were 23 ± 3.4, 23.5 ± 6.3, and 26.3 ± 5.9 at the time of recruitment and 25.2 ± 3.5, 15 ± 11.7, and 26.9 ± 6.4 after 4 days for the PVP-I, NS, and control groups, respectively. Conclusions: When used continuously at a concentration of 0.23%, PVP-I showed promising results in terms of decreasing the pandemic burden by reducing the period of infectiousness and viral load. However, the use of PVP-I did not result in significantly different changes in the quality-of-life parameters in recently vaccinated and mild COVID-19 patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Ceramic materials are quickly becoming the preferred materials for indirect restorations. The improvements in digital impression technology and manufacturing processes have led to the broad spectrum use of Computer-aided Design/Computer-aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) in the fabrication of indirect restorations. Aim: To assess the biaxial flexural strength of the CAD/CAM Advanced Lithium Disilicate (ALDS) glass-ceramic CEREC Tessera and compare it with that of LDS IPS e.max CAD. Materials and Methods: An in-vitro study was conducted at the Department of Restorative Dental Sciences, College of Dentistry, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from September 2022 to September 2023 to assess the flexural strength of advanced LDS (CEREC Tessera; Dentsply Sirona) in comparison with LDS (IPS e.max CAD; Ivoclar Vivadent). A total of 10 specimens of each material were tested for flexural strength using an Instron universal machine. The data were analysed using a t-test with a significance level of α=0.05. Results: A significantly lower mean flexural strength was observed in the ALDS group compared to the LDS group, with a p-value of 0.00008. Translation instructors typically select texts based on what they think students need. However, their translation experience may not extend beyond teaching translation. Furthermore, previous research reported a gap between translator training and the translation job market. As translation courses should cater to the needs of the translation profession, the current study was motivated by the importance of identifying the professional needs of undergraduate translation students in the English Language Program at the College of Language Sciences, King Saud University, to identify any gap between the Program's requirements and workplace practices. Using questionnaires, interviews, and the analysis of relevant documents, the researchers attempted to identify the most frequent fields, genres, skills, and evaluation criteria professional translators encounter at the workplace. The graduates of the Program under investigation, reported that the most frequent translation fields in the job market were the business translation and legal translation. Furthermore, the most common genres were terms and conditions, policies, reports, agreements and contracts, and website content. The analysis of the documents and interview data showed that the genres addressed in the legal translation course align with the genres encountered at the workplace. In addition, the evaluation criteria adopted by course instructors are well-aligned with the aspects emphasized by employers. In general, some significant discrepancies were found between the Program and the job market regarding genres and fields. Background: Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) syndrome has a near-100% lifetime risk of colorectal cancer. Early surveillance and prophylactic surgery have been advocated to reduce this risk. However, the surveillance practices among FAP individuals in Saudi Arabia are unknown. We aimed to explore surveillance compliance in our population, as well as the disease impact on their quality of life (QoL). Methods: All patients with FAP who underwent surgical resection at King Saud University Medical City between 2016 and 2022 were included. Demographic data, clinical features, family history, and compliance with surveillance were collected and analyzed. QoL questionnaires: Short-form health survey (SF-36) and European Organization for Research and Treatment (EORTC) were conducted by phone interview. Results: A total of 14 patients were included with an average age of 25 years. Three patients (21.4%) were the first of their family members to develop FAP. Nine patients (64%) were untested for genetic mutation due to lack of referral to geneticists. The compliance rate toward both pre-operative colonoscopy and upper endoscopy were 78%. However, 38% and 27% compliance rates were observed toward initial and post-operative colonoscopy, respectively. The compliance rate was 14% toward thyroid ultrasound. QoL scores varied among patients, with a mean score above 60 across all SF-36 domains. Conclusion: An overall poor compliance was observed among our participants, particularly toward thyroid ultrasound. Increased health awareness and patient education are essential. In addition, the importance of surveillance and genetic counseling should be emphasized among physicians treating these patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
