Background: For more than 30 years, there has been close cooperation between Japanese and German scientists with regard to information systems in health care. Collaboration has been formalized by an agreement between the respective scientific associations. Following this agreement, two joint workshops took place to explore the similarities and differences of electronic health record systems (EHRS) against the background of the two national healthcare systems that share many commonalities. Objectives: To establish a framework and requirements for the quality of EHRS that may also serve as a basis for comparing different EHRS. Methods: Donabedian’s three dimensions of quality of medical care were adapted to the outcome, process, and structural quality of EHRS and their management. These quality dimensions were proposed before the first workshop of EHRS experts and enriched during the discussions. Results: The Quality Requirements Framework of EHRS (QRF-EHRS) was defined and complemented by requirements for high quality EHRS. The framework integrates three quality dimensions (outcome, process, and structural quality), three layers of information systems (processes and data, applications, and physical tools) and three dimensions of information management (strategic, tactical, and operational information management). Conclusions: Describing and comparing the quality of EHRS is in fact a multidimensional problem as given by the QRF-EHRS framework. This framework will be utilized to compare Japanese and German EHRS, notably those that were presented at the second workshop.

Issues related to ensuring patient privacy and data ownership in clinical repositories prevent the growth of translational research. Previous studies have used an aggregator agent to obscure clinical repositories from the data user, and to ensure the privacy of output using statistical disclosure control. However, there remain several issues that must be considered. One such issue is that a data breach may occur when multiple nodes conspire. Another is that the agent may eavesdrop on or leak a user's queries and their results. We have implemented a secure computing method so that the data used by each party can be kept confidential even if all of the other parties conspire to crack the data. We deployed our implementation at three geographically distributed nodes connected to a high-speed layer two network. 現在，欧米や日本において，科学研究向けクラウドとしてサイエンスクラウドが提案され，システムや利活用についての議論が進められている．サイエンスクラウドはビッグデータ時代のデータ指向型科学研究基盤として提案されている．クラウド上でのビッグデータ処理では，CPU の並列分散化だけではなくネットワークやI/O の並列分散が重要である．本研究ではクラウド環境で高い計算効率を得るための基礎研究として，CPU およびI/O を同時に分散処理するシステムを提案する．8 コアを有する6 台のクラスタ計算機で基礎実験を行った結果，ノード内のプロセス数が少ない場合はほぼ100％の並列化効率が達成され，100 台を超える大規模クラスタ環境でも高いスケーラビリティーが予測された．一方，ノード内で複数プロセスが処理を行う場合にはディスクアクセスの輻輳が発生し，必ずしも高いスケーラビリティーを得ることができない．8 コアを有する6 台の計算サーバで最も高い並列化効率を得たのは6 プロセス並列の場合であり，高速化率は20.6 であった．今後は，同ノード内のI/O 処理を分散化することで，並列化効率をさらに向上させることが期待される．, Science cloud is a cloud system designed for scientific researches, and expected as a new infrastructure for big data sciences. Not only parallelization of CPU as in super-computers, but I/O and network throughput parallelization are crucial for the big data sciences. One of the typical structures of science cloud is a scalable cluster in which multiple clusters in a cloud are connected with high-speed network. In the present study, we examine performance of parallelization of both CPU and I/O in a cloud system as the first step to high performance scalable clusters. In case with few processes executed on each computational node (server), parallelization efficiency is almost 100%. This high efficiency is expected to maintain in larger-scale cluster systems such as those with 100 servers. On the condition of multi-processes on each node, the present parallelization does not show good performance due to the congestions of I/O. Parallelization efficiency (speed-up) is as low as 20.6%. We have constructed a new research environment for geo-space science based on 3-D visualization tool and network database; Virtual Earth's Magnetosphere System (VEMS). With an interactive research environment researchers can visually understand structures of the Earth's magnetosphere using VEMS. On the VEMS, computer simulation results and observation data are simultaneously visualized, having a potential to data assimilation for geo-space studies in the future. Since the VEMS deals with time-dependent data, it also helps researchers to study dynamics of the Earth's magnetosphere. We found that immersive data analyses are possible using the VEMS on a virtual reality system.

Using SSL-VPN requires special considerations for well-known issues such as attackers exploiting web browser vulnerabilities and phishing sites using man-in-the-middle attacks. We used leakage-resilient authenticated key exchange (LR-AKE) to develop a comprehensive solution to SSL-VPN issues. Our results show that the LR-AKE should contribute to building a robust infrastructure for personal health records.
