Controlled low-strength materials (CLSMs) have been developed using various byproducts for backfilling or void-filling around pipelines or culvert boxes. However, these CLSMs have encountered issues related to their inadequate placement around underground facilities, despite satisfying the performance requirements, especially flowability, recommended by the American Concrete Institute (ACI) 229 committee. In this study, a new CLSM is developed to ensure a significantly higher flowability, lower segregation, and faster installation compared with previously developed CLSMs. This is achieved through a series of laboratory tests. To enhance the flowability and prevent segregation, a calcium-sulfoaluminate-based binder and fly ash are used in combination with two types of additives. The measured flowability of the new CLSM is 700 mm, while its compressive strength and bleeding satisfy the general criteria specified by the ACI 229R-13. In addition, the performance of the developed CLSM is compared with that of predeveloped CLSMs. The new CLSM was not only shown to exhibit the highest flowability, but also to satisfy the specified requirements for compressive strength and bleeding. Overall, it is anticipated that the developed CLSM can significantly reduce the costs related to the disposal of old pavements, the installation of new pavements, and other construction expenses compared to the costs related to the conventional method, even though the expenses for the backfill materials could increase due to the higher production costs of CLSMs than soil. In addition, there is a need to investigate its field applicability in order to evaluate the precise costs, maintenance, and long-term stabilities after installation.

The goal of this study was to evaluate the measurement invariance of an adapted assessment of motivations for social withdrawal ("Social Preference Scale--Revised"; SPS-R) across cultural contexts and explore associations with loneliness. Participants were a large sample of university students (N = 4,397; M[subscript age] = 20.08 years, SD = 2.96; 66% females) from 10 countries (Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, India, Italy, South Korea, Norway, Turkey, and the United States). With this cross-cultural focus, we illustrate the "multiple-group factor analysis alignment method," an approach developed to assess measurement invariance when there are several groups. Results indicated approximate measurement invariance across the 10 country groups. Additional analyses indicated that overall, shyness, avoidance, and unsociability are three related, but distinct factors, with some notable country differences evident (e.g., in China, India, and Turkey). Shyness and avoidance were related positively to loneliness in all countries, but the strength of the association between shyness and loneliness differed in Italy and India relative to the other countries. Results also indicated that unsociability was related positively to loneliness in the United States only. Theoretical and assessment implications are discussed.

Self‐organizing brain organoids provide a promising tool for studying human development and disease. Here we created human forebrain organoids with stable and homogeneous expression of channelrhodopsin‐2 (ChR2) by generating AAVS1 safe harbor locus‐targeted, ChR2 knocked‐in human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs), followed by the differentiation of these genetically engineered hPSCs into forebrain organoids. The resulting ChR2‐expressing human forebrain organoids showed homogeneous cellular expression of ChR2 throughout entire regions without any structural and functional perturbations and displayed consistent and robust neural activation upon light stimulation, allowing for the non‐virus mediated, spatiotemporal optogenetic control of neural activities. Furthermore, in the hybrid platform in which brain organoids are connected with spinal cord organoids and skeletal muscle spheroids, ChR2 knocked‐in forebrain organoids induced strong and consistent muscle contraction upon brain‐specific optogenetic stimulation. Our study thus provides a novel, non‐virus mediated, preclinical human organoid system for light‐inducible, consistent control of neural activities to study neural circuits and dynamics in normal and disease‐specific human brains as well as neural connections between brain and other peripheral tissues. The current study focuses on infants' sleep-wake states in group child care and relations of those states to infant-caregiver interactions. Qualitative case studies were conducted with four infants (3-7 months old) in an infant room at a child care centre. Video-recordings were the main format for data collection with the four infants and video recordings were made for a period of 3-5 h on each infant on a weekly basis for 11-12 weeks. Video recordings were transcribed using the InqScribe transcription software. Infant states identified in this research are important in the synchrony of infant-caregiver interactions, and have implications for caregivers' awareness of the impact of their actions associated with infant states. Caregivers took active roles in infant state modulation as it related to the infants' smooth or interrupted state transitions in the group care context. This research represents an effort to broaden and stimulate discussions on newer issues for enhancing infant child care practices and skills.

A single‐panel complex holographic display with a three‐phase covalent macropixel featuring ultralow noise and high‐efficiency 3D image generation is proposed. The essential feature of the proposed three‐phase covalent macropixel is the point‐symmetric covalent concatenation of sub‐pixels and an adaptive computer‐generated hologram encoding algorithm. The proposed single‐panel holographic display exhibits three times signal efficiency enhancement, 1/38 reduction of DC noise, and 1/50 reduction of conjugate noise compared to conventional holographic displays in the generation of full‐color computer‐generated hologram images. This noise reduction leads to three times the optical efficiency enhancement of holographic displays. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Caregivers' warm, sensitive, and attentive interactions with their children have been widely considered key indicators of infant-caregiver interaction quality in childcare contexts. The primary purpose of this study was to explore infant's daily experiences and the characteristics of relationship-based supportive care practices in a childcare setting. This research project is based upon videotaped and direct observations of infants and caregivers in a naturalistic environment. Approximately the first three months of childcare of the four targeted infants in the infant childcare context were video-recorded. Infant caregivers' consistent care and educational philosophies, dedication as well as congruent belief systems with other team members influenced the accuracy and consistency of caretaking behaviours and responsiveness to individual infant's needs.

A majority of mothers experience parenting stress in daily life; however high levels of maternal stress have been recognized as a risk factor for children's developmental outcomes. We examined trajectories of maternal parenting stress across childhood, and their longitudinal relations to children's executive function and school adjustment. Data were drawn from the Panel Study on Korean Children (PSKC), which included 1754 mothers across five waves measured at children ages 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 (boys = 51%). Results of Latent Growth Curve Modeling (LGCM) revealed that, on average, maternal parenting stress decreased over time, but there were significant variabilities in the initial levels at age 3 and changes across early through middle childhood. High initial levels of stress and an increase in maternal parenting stress over time were associated with lower executive function at age 7 in planning‐organizing and attention concentration. An increment in maternal parenting stress over time was related to poorer school adjustment at age 7, measured by classroom behavior, positive approach to learning, and child‐peer and child‐teacher relationships. These findings support cultural commonality and may contribute to the instantiation of culturally universal, early preventions and interventions to support mothers' mental health. Efforts aimed at reducing maternal parenting stress early in development may promote better long‐term developmental outcomes, including executive functioning and school adjustment of children in their first year of elementary school. While recent research has shown that holographic displays can represent photorealistic 3D holograms in real time, the difficulty in acquiring high-quality real-world holograms has limited the realization of holographic streaming systems. Incoherent holographic cameras, which record holograms under daylight conditions, are suitable candidates for real-world acquisition, as they prevent the safety issues associated with the use of lasers; however, these cameras are hindered by severe noise due to the optical imperfections of such systems. In this work, we develop a deep learning-based incoherent holographic camera system that can deliver visually enhanced holograms in real time. A neural network filters the noise in the captured holograms, maintaining a complex-valued hologram format throughout the whole process. Enabled by the computational efficiency of the proposed filtering strategy, we demonstrate a holographic streaming system integrating a holographic camera and holographic display, with the aim of developing the ultimate holographic ecosystem of the future. The authors develop a deep learning-based incoherent holographic camera system in order to deliver visually enhanced holograms in real-time.
