To promote environmental development and sustain resource circularity, recycling metals from electronic waste is essential. Electronic waste is a significant secondary source of metals, with its production increasing rapidly and most remaining unrecycled. In solar panels, copper is the second-most-valuable metal after silver. We propose an innovative method to recycle copper from waste solar panels and convert it into copper oxide nanoparticles (CuONPs) using a green synthesis method. Synthesizing CuONPs is advantageous due to their large surface area compared to bulk material. Nitric acid, a strong oxidizing agent, was used to leach copper from solid copper wires in waste solar panels. A green synthesis method, following a bottom-up approach, was employed using Piper nigrum fruit extract to synthesize CuONPs. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized using various qualitative and quantitative techniques. Spectroscopic analysis confirmed the formation of CuONPs, and transmission electron microscopy revealed that the nanoparticles were spherical with sizes up to 60 nm. Biomolecules from the Piper nigrum extract were detected on the surface of the crystalline CuONPs. These nanoparticles exhibited antibacterial activity against Gram-negative Escherichia coli and Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus using a well-diffusion method, showing a larger zone of inhibition for E. coli compared to S. aureus. This paper presents a wideband fractional-N all-digital phase-locked loop (WBPLL) architecture featuring a triple-loop configuration capable of tuning frequencies from 1.9 to 6.1 GHz. The first and second loops, automatic frequency control (AFC) and counter-assisted phase-locked loop (CAPLL), respectively, perform coarse locking, while the third loop employs a digital sub-sampling architecture without a frequency divider for fine locking. In this third loop, fractional-N frequency synthesis is achieved using a delta-sigma modulator (DSM) and digital-to-time converter (DTC). To minimize area, digital modules such as counters, comparators, and differentiators used in the AFC and CAPLL loops are reused. Furthermore, a moving average filter (MAF) is employed to reduce the frequency overlap ratio of the digitally controlled oscillator (DCO) between the second and third loops, ensuring stable loop switching. The total power consumption of the WBPLL varies with the frequency range, consuming between 8.8 mW at the WBPLL minimum output frequency of 1.9 GHz and 12.8 mW at the WBPLL maximum output frequency of 6.1 GHz, all at a 1.0 V supply. One of the most profound and philosophically captivating foci of modern astronomy is the study of Earth-like exoplanets in the search for life in the Universe. The paradigm-shifting investigation described here calls for a new type of scalable space telescope that redefines the available light-collecting area in space. The Nautilus Space Observatory, enabled by multiple-order diffractive optics (the MODE lens), is ushering in the advent of large space telescope lenses designed to search for biosignatures on a thousand exo-earths. The Kinematically Engaged Yoke System (KEYS) was developed to align a segmented version of the MODE lens. A technology demonstration prototype of KEYS was built and tested using scanning white light interferometry and deflectometry. A deflectometry system was also developed to monitor the closed-loop alignment of the segmented MODE lens during its UV (i.e., Ultraviolet) curing.

Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have emerged as the most commercialized rechargeable battery technology. However, their inherent property, called thermal runaway, poses a high risk of fire. This article introduces the "Battery Immersed in Fire Prevention Material (BIF)", the immersion-type battery in which all of the LIB cells are surrounded by a liquid agent. This structure and the agent enable active battery fire suppression under abusive conditions while facilitating improved thermal management during normal operation. Abuse tests involving a battery revealed that the LIB module experienced fire, explosions, and burnouts with the target cell reaching temperatures of 1405 °C and the side reaching 796 °C. Conversely, the BIF module exhibited a complete lack of fire propagation, with temperatures lower than those of LIBs, particularly 285 and 17 °C, respectively. Under normal operating conditions, the BIF module exhibited an average temperature rise ~8.6 times lower than that of a normal LIB. Furthermore, it reduced the uneven thermal deviation between the cells by ~5.3 times more than LIB. This study provides a detailed exploration of the BIF and covers everything from components to practical applications. Gas leaks can cause disasters at process sites, including fires and explosions, and thus, effective gas-leak detection systems are required. This study investigated the limitations of conventional detectors and introduced an innovative ultrasonic sensor-based approach for continuous monitoring. A new configuration for a stationary remote ultrasonic gas-leak monitoring system is proposed. The selected material was 1-Butene. The detection probability was assessed through a simulation based on a gas-leak scenario, detailing the selection criteria for leak sites and simulation conditions. Computational fluid-dynamics (CFD) simulations were used to evaluate the detection capability of the existing system, whereas Monte Carlo simulations were used to compare it with the proposed ultrasonic system. The CFD simulation was performed by setting the lower detection limit of the concentration-measurement-type gas detector to 600 ppm, and the leak-detection time was approximately 8.895 s. A Monte Carlo simulation accounting for wind direction showed that the existing system's average detection probability was 3.41%. By integrating the existing and new systems, the detection probability increased by 96.58% and 3.92% compared with that using only the concentration-measurement and ultrasonic measurement methods, respectively.
