Abstract

BACKGROUND: Recent clinical trials established the benefit of dual antiplatelet therapy with aspirin and clopidogrel (DAPT-AC) in early-presenting patients with minor ischemic stroke. However, the impact of these trials over time on the use and outcomes of DAPT-AC among the patients with nonminor or late-presenting stroke who do not meet the eligibility criteria of these trials has not been delineated. METHODS AND RESULTS: In a multicenter stroke registry, this study examined yearly changes from April 2008 to August 2022 in DAPT-AC use for stroke patients ineligible for CHANCE/POINT (Clopidogrel in High-Risk Patients with Acute Nondisabling Cerebrovascular Events/Platelet-Oriented Inhibition in New TIA and Minor Ischemic Stroke) clinical trials due to National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale >4 or late arrival beyond 24 hours of onset. A total of 32 118 patients (age, 68.1±13.1 years; male, 58.5%) with National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale of 4 (interquartile range, 1-7) were analyzed. In 2008, DAPT-AC was used in 33.0%, other antiplatelets in 62.7%, and no antiplatelet in 4.3%. Abstract

Serious climate changes and energy-related environmental problems are currently critical issues in the world. In order to reduce carbon emissions and save our environment, renewable energy harvesting technologies will serve as a key solution in the near future. Among them, triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs), which is one of the most promising mechanical energy harvesters by means of contact electrification phenomenon, are explosively developing due to abundant wasting mechanical energy sources and a number of superior advantages in a wide availability and selection of materials, relatively simple device configurations, and low-cost processing. Significant experimental and theoretical efforts have been achieved toward understanding fundamental behaviors and a wide range of demonstrations since its report in 2012. As a result, considerable technological advancement has been exhibited and it advances the timeline of achievement in the proposed roadmap. Now, the technology has reached the stage of prototype development with verification of performance beyond the lab scale environment toward its commercialization. In this review, distinguished authors in the world worked together to summarize the state of the art in theory, materials, devices, systems, circuits, and applications in TENG fields. The great research achievements of researchers in this field around the world over the past decade are expected to play a major role in coming to fruition of unexpectedly accelerated technological advances over the next decade.

Abstract

Deep-learning based techniques have contributed to the remarkable progress in the field of automatic image quality assessment (IQA). Existing IQA methods are designed to measure the quality of an image in terms of Mean Opinion Score (MOS) at the image-level (i.e. the whole image) or at the patch-level (dividing the image into multiple units and measuring quality of each patch). Some applications may require assessing the quality at the pixel-level (i.e. MOS value for each pixel), however, this is not possible in case of existing techniques as the spatial information is lost owing to their network structures. This paper proposes an IQA algorithm that can measure the MOS at the pixel-level, in addition to the image-level MOS. The proposed algorithm consists of three core parts, namely: i) Local IQA; ii) Region of Interest (ROI) prediction; iii) High-level feature embedding. The Local IQA part outputs the MOS at the pixel-level, or pixel-by-pixel MOS - we term it 'pMOS'. The ROI prediction part outputs weights that characterize the relative importance of region when calculating the image-level IQA. The high-level feature embedding part extracts high-level image features which are then embedded into the Local IQA part. In other words, the proposed algorithm yields three outputs: the pMOS which represents MOS for each pixel, the weights from the ROI indicating the relative importance of region, and finally the image-level MOS that is obtained by the weighted sum of pMOS and ROI values. The image-level MOS thus obtained by utilizing pMOS and ROI weights shows superior performance compared to the existing popular IQA techniques. In addition, visualization results indicate that predicted pMOS and ROI outputs are reasonably aligned with the general principles of the human visual system (HVS).

23. WITCHER : Detecting Crash Consistency Bugs in Non-volatile Memory Programs

Abstract

The advent of non-volatile main memory (NVM) enables the development of crash-consistent software without paying storage stack overhead. However, building a correct crash-consistent program remains very challenging in the presence of a volatile cache. This paper presents WITCHER, a crash consistency bug detector for NVM software, that is (1) scalable -- does not suffer from test space explosion, (2) automatic -- does not require manual source code annotations, and (3) precise -- does not produce false positives. WITCHER first infers a set of "likely invariants" that are believed to be true to be crash consistent by analyzing source codes and NVM access traces. WITCHER automatically composes NVM images that simulate those potentially inconsistent (crashing) states violating the likely invariants. Then WITCHER performs "output equivalence checking" by comparing the output of program executions with and without a simulated crash. It validates if a likely invariant violation under test is a true crash consistency bug. Evaluation with ten persistent data structures, two real-world servers, and five example codes in Intel's PMDK library shows that WITCHER outperforms state-of-the-art tools. WITCHER discovers 37 (32 new) crash consistency bugs, which were all confirmed.

Abstract

Since real-time contents can be captured and downloaded very easily, copyright infringement has become a serious problem. In order to reduce the loss caused by copyright infringement, copyright owners insert a watermark in the content to protect the copyright using illegal distribution route tracking and copyright authentication. However, whereas many existing watermarking techniques are robust to signal distortion such as compression, they are vulnerable to geometric distortion that causes synchronization errors. In particular, capturing real-time content in Internet browsers and smartphone applications is problematic because geometric distortion such as scaling and translation frequently occurs. In this paper, we propose a convolutional neural network-based template architecture that compensates for the disadvantages of existing watermarking techniques that are vulnerable to geometric distortion. The proposed template consists of a template generation network, a template extraction network, and a template matching network. The template generation network generates a template in the form of noise and the template is inserted into certain pre-defined spatial locations of the image. The extraction network detects spatial locations where the template is inserted in the image. Finally, the template matching network estimates the parameters of the geometric distortion by comparing the shape of spatial locations where the template was inserted with the locations where the template was detected. It is possible to recover an image in its original geometrical form using the estimated parameters, and as a result, watermarks applied using existing watermarking techniques that are vulnerable to geometric distortion can be decoded normally., Comment: 12 pages

Abstract

Watermarking inserts invisible data into content to protect copyright. The embedded information provides proof of authorship and facilitates tracking illegal distribution, etc. Current robust watermarking techniques have been proposed to preserve inserted copyright information from various attacks, such as content modification and watermark removal attack. However, since the watermark is inserted in the form of noise, there is an inevitable effect of reducing content visual quality. In general, more robust watermarking techniques tend to have larger effect on the quality, and content creators and users are often reluctant to insert watermarks. Thus, there is a demand for a watermark that maintains maximum image quality, even if the watermark performance is slightly inferior. Therefore, we propose a watermarking technique that maximizes invisibility while maintaining sufficient robustness and data capacity enough to be applied for real situations. The proposed method minimizes watermarking energy by adopting curvelet domain multi-directional decomposition to maximize invisibility, and maximizes robustness against signal processing attack by watermarking pattern suitable for curvelet transformation. The method is also robust against geometric attack by employing watermark detection method utilizing curvelet characteristics. The proposed method showed very good results of 57.65 dB peak signal-to-noise ratio in fidelity tests, and mean opinion score showed that images treated with the proposed method were hardly distinguishable from the originals.
