Abstract

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) mission has been validating its soil moisture (SM) products since the start of data production on March 31, 2015. Prior to launch, the mission defined a set of criteria for core validation sites (CVS) that enable the testing of the key mission SM accuracy requirement (unbiased root-mean-square error <0.04 m3/m3). The validation approach also includes other ('sparse network') in situ SM measurements, satellite SM products, model-based SM products, and field experiments. Over the past six years, the SMAP SM products have been analyzed with respect to these reference data, and the analysis approaches themselves have been scrutinized in an effort to best understand the products' performance. Validation of the most recent SMAP Level 2 and 3 SM retrieval products (R17000) shows that the L-band (1.4 GHz) radiometer-based SM record continues to meet mission requirements. The products are generally consistent with SM retrievals from the European Space Agency Soil Moisture Ocean Salinity mission, although there are differences in some regions. The high-resolution (3-km) SM retrieval product, generated by combining Copernicus Sentinel-1 data with SMAP observations, performs within expectations. Currently, however, there is limited availability of 3-km CVS data to support extensive validation at this spatial scale. The most recent (version 5) SMAP Level 4 SM data assimilation product providing surface and root-zone SM with complete spatio-temporal coverage at 9-km resolution also meets performance requirements. The SMAP SM validation program will continue throughout the mission life; future plans include expanding it to forested and high-latitude regions.

Abstract

In this paper, we made causal maps for the policy of low birth rate and the job policy respectively, and found that there is no feedback loops in each policy. Given the long history of system dynamics study in the ignorance of feedback loops, this is not a surprising finding. A surprising finding in our study is that some clear feedback loops emerged when linking the policy of low birthrate and job policies. If you combine two policies that were handled separately, the invisible feedback loops reveals themselves When we have an integrated approach to the system, we can recognize the feedback loops inherent in the system, and have a more strategic approach to the system. This is the essential implication of our study.

Abstract

Coincidental airborne brightness temperature (TB) and normalized radar-cross section (NRCS) measurements were carried out with the PALS (Passive and Active L- and S-band) instrument in the SMAPVEX08 (SMAP Validation Experiment 2008) field campaign. This paper describes results obtained from a set of flights which measured a field in 45(sup o) steps over the azimuth angle. The field contained mature soy beans with distinct row structure. The measurement shows that both TB and NRCS experience modulation effects over the azimuth as expected based on the theory. The result is useful in development and validation of land surface parameter forward models and retrieval algorithms, such as the soil moisture algorithm for NASA's SMAP (Soil Moisture Active and Passive) mission. Although the footprint of the SMAP will not be sensitive to the small resolution scale effects as the one presented in this paper, it is nevertheless important to understand the effects at smaller scale.

Abstract

Objective: Our hypothesis is that human patient gut microbiome dysbiosis determines independent risks for 1) comorbid hypertension plus depression, 2) hypertension without depression, or 3) depression without hypertension. Methods: After University of Florida Institutional Review Board approval, stool samples were collected from volunteers diagnosed with hypertension (HTN) and/or meeting DSM-5 criteria for a depressive disorder (DEP), and from healthy human reference subjects without diagnosed HTN nor mental illness. Stool microbiome data were obtained by initial 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequence analyses followed by extensive whole genome metagenomic shotgun sequencing analyses.Subject metadata were analyzed for these risk interactions: 1) HTN/No DEP; 2) HTN/with DEP; 3) No HTN/No DEP; and 4) No HTN/with DEP. Results: KEGG ortholog metabolic pathways and gene analyses relating to systemic inflammasome induction and gut wall ACE components, multivariate PCA ordination, linear discriminant analysis effect size assessments, and network distance analyses collectively revealed significantly different (P Conclusions: Human gut microbiome dysbiosis and attending pathologic metabolic pathways yielded discrete risk factors that discriminate patients comorbid with HTN plus DEP vs HTN without DEP vs DEP without HTN, in contrast to healthy reference subjects. These data collectively implicate the gut as a novel target for prevention, diagnosing, and treating HTN.

Abstract

The effects of intracisternally administered human calcitonin gene-related peptide (8-37) (hCGRP-(8-37)), an antagonist, and hCGRP, an agonist of the CGRP receptor in the rat central nervous system, on baroreflex sensitivity were investigated in conscious male rats. Findings revealed that endogenous CGRP in the lower brain stem is selectively implicated in the tachycardiac but not the bradycardiac baroreflex and regulates the baroreflex in an inhibitory rather than facilitatory manner.
