Abstract

Self-sustained oscillations are ubiquitous in nature and engineering. In this paper, we propose a novel output-only system-identification framework for identifying the system parameters of a self-sustained oscillator affected by Gaussian white noise. A Langevin model that characterizes the self-sustained oscillator is postulated, and the corresponding Fokker--Planck equation is derived from stochastic averaging. From the drift and diffusion terms of the Fokker--Planck equation, unknown parameters of the system are identified. We develop a numerically efficient algorithm for enhancing the accuracy of parameter identification. In particular, a modified Levenberg--Marquardt optimization algorithm tailored to output-only system identification is introduced. The proposed framework is demonstrated on both numerical and experimental oscillators with varying system parameters that develop into self-sustained oscillations. The results show that the computational cost required for performing the system identification is dramatically reduced by using the proposed framework. Also, system parameters that were difficult to be extracted with the existing method could be efficiently computed with the system identification method developed in this study. 8. The Structural Relationship among Digital Literacy, Learning Strategies, and Core Competencies among South Korean College Students

Abstract

This study explores the structural relationship among digital literacy, learning strategies, and core competencies among South Korean college students as well as the group differences between these variables depending on individual characteristics. Data analysis was conducted by correlation analysis, independent sample "t"-testing, and structural equation modelling. Participants were 916 college students from 10 colleges in South Korea. The results showed that (i) no difference between groups existed in digital literacy and core competencies; however, a group difference existed in learning strategy; (ii) digital literacy had a direct effect on core competencies and learning strategies had an indirect effect on the influence of digital literacy on core competencies; and (iii) digital literacy can enhance the effect of core competencies when mediating learning strategy. This study suggests areas for future research, including developing digital technology-enhanced, competency-driven learning resources that account for the effects of cognitive, meta-cognitive, and resource management; the relationship between digital literacy and core competencies of learner characteristics such as achievement goal orientation, learning style, and academic self-efficacy; the effect of individual digital technologies on core competencies based on individual learning strategies through experimental and quasi-experimental designs; and qualitative studies on employing digital technologies and learning strategies.

Abstract

Activation of regulatory elements is thought to be inversely correlated with DNA methylation levels. However, it is difficult to determine whether DNA methylation is compatible with chromatin accessibility or transcription factor (TF) binding if assays are performed separately. We developed a fast, low-input, low sequencing depth method, EpiMethylTag, that combines ATAC-seq or ChIP-seq (M-ATAC or M-ChIP) with bisulfite conversion, to simultaneously examine accessibility/TF binding and methylation on the same DNA. Here we demonstrate that EpiMethylTag can be used to study the functional interplay between chromatin accessibility and TF binding (CTCF and KLF4) at methylated sites.
