Abstract

Despite availability of various image sources for specific areas, a new disaster management system is likely to be implemented by using only one of them. Thus, its applicability and extensibility are severely limited. In addition, real-time update for the disaster area is one of the crucial functions for search and rescue activities. To meet the aforementioned requirements, in this paper, we propose a new spatial data infrastructure by defining the methodological scheme for the raster information. The proposed system has four respective layers to reduce the management cost as well as provide a flexible architecture. In each layer, various open source software or standard technologies are employed to perform the given tasks. The experimental results reveal that the proposed scheme accommodates the requirements for disaster risk management and meets the performance requirements in an efficient way.

18. Yield and water use response of Cuphea to irrigation in the northern corn belt

Abstract

Cuphea (Cuphea viscosissima Jacq. x C. lanceolata W.T. Aiton) may be prone to drought stress, yet little is known about the yield response of this new oilseed crop to irrigation. A field study was conducted in western Minnesota on a Barnes loam soil (fine-loamy, mixed, superactive, frigid Calcic Hapludolls) in 2002 and 2003 to compare yield and water use of irrigated and nonirrigated cuphea. Nonirrigated cuphea received only precipitation, while irrigated plants received supplemental watering to maintain soil water content near field capacity during the study. Crop drought stress was assessed by measuring photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, leaf water potential, and [delta][sup.13]C ([sup.13]C/[sup.12]C stable isotope composition). In 2002, soil water content was similar for irrigated and nonirrigated plants throughout the growing season owing to timely rains, and seed yield was similar between treatments (873 kg [ha.sup.-1]). During 2003, irrigation resulted in a 2.7-fold increase in seed yield and greater harvest index than non-irrigated plants, while water use efficiency (WUE) of seed production for both treatments was similar (2.4 kg [ha.sup.-1] [mm.sup.-1]). Drought conditions occurred in 2003; by mid-August, leaf photosynthesis and leaf water potential of nonirrigated plants were 83 and 56% less, respectively, than for irrigated cuphea. Moreover, [delta][sup.13]C measurements of seed further confirmed that nonirrigated cuphea suffered significant drought stress. Our results indicate that cuphea is drought sensitive and that regions or soils prone to water deficits will likely require supplemental irrigation to increase seed yield.

Abstract

For the real-time scheduling in wireless sensor networks, Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) under cluster architecture is usually considered as reasonable as well as scalable approach. Under this architecture, several type of inferences should be taken into account to allocate time slot. For this goal, we have already proposed a new real-time scheduling algorithm. But, it has several assumptions and constraints so their deployment is limited to some specific real scenarios. In this paper, we additionally concern the interference of a node which belongs to two clusters concurrently. Token based scheduling algorithm between two cluster heads is proposed to solve this problem. Token is given to each cluster head consequently so order of slot allocation is achieved automatically. Finally, simulation results are given to prove that more flows are delivered within the deadline than previous work due to avoidance of inter-cluster interference in efficient way.

Abstract

Proceedings of Graphics Interface 2016, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, 1-3 June 2016, 175-182, The idea of style similarity metrics has been recently developed for various media types such as 2D clip art and 3D shapes. We explore this style metric problem and improve existing style similarity metrics of 3D shapes in four novel ways. First, we consider the color and texture of 3D shapes which are important properties that have not been previously considered. Second, we explore the effect of clustering a dataset of 3D models by comparing between style metrics for individual object types and style metrics that combine clusters of object types. Third, we explore the idea of userguided learning for this problem. Fourth, we introduce an iterative approach that can learn a metric from a general set of 3D models. We demonstrate these contributions with various classes of 3D shapes and with applications such as style-based similarity search and scene composition.
