Abstract: We present the first measurement of the missing energy due to nuclear effects in monoenergetic, muon neutrino charged-current interactions on carbon, originating from $K^+ \rightarrow \mu^+ \nu_\mu$ decay-at-rest ($E_{\nu_\mu}=235.5$ MeV), performed with the JSNS$^2$ liquid scintillator based experiment. Towards characterizing the neutrino interaction, ostensibly $\nu_\mu n \rightarrow \mu^- p$ or $\nu_\mu$$^{12}\mathrm{C}$ $\rightarrow \mu^-$$^{12}\mathrm{N}$, and in analogy to similar electron scattering based measurements, we define the missing energy as the energy transferred to the nucleus ($\omega$) minus the kinetic energy of the outgoing proton(s), $E_{m} \equiv \omega-\sum T_p$, and relate this to visible energy in the detector, $E_{m}=E_{\nu_\mu}~(235.5~\mathrm{MeV})-m_\mu~(105.7~\mathrm{MeV}) - E_{vis}$. The missing energy, which is naively expected to be zero in the absence of nuclear effects (e.g. nucleon separation energy, Fermi momenta, and final-state interactions), is uniquely sensitive to many aspects of the interaction, and has previously been inaccessible with neutrinos. The shape-only, differential cross section measurement reported, based on a $(77\pm3)$% pure double-coincidence KDAR signal (621 total events), provides an important benchmark for models and event generators at 100s-of-MeV neutrino energies, characterized by the difficult-to-model transition region between neutrino-nucleus and neutrino-nucleon scattering, and relevant for applications in nuclear physics, neutrino oscillation measurements, and Type-II supernova studies.

2. Exploring Different Search Approaches to Discover Donor Molecules for Organic Solar Cells

Abstract: Identifying organic molecules with desirable properties from the extensive chemical space can be challenging, particularly when property evaluation methods are time-consuming and resource intensive. In this study, we illustrate this challenge by exploring the chemical space of large oligomers, constructed from monomeric building blocks, for potential use in organic photovoltaics (OPV). To facilitate this exploration, we developed a Python package called stk-search, which employs a building block approach. For this purpose, we developed a python package to search the chemical space using a building block approach: stk-search. We use stk-search (GitHub link) to compare a variety of search algorithms, including those based upon Bayesian optimization and evolutionary approaches. Initially, we evaluated and compared the performance of different search algorithms within a precomputed search space. We then extended our investigation to the vast chemical space of molecules formed of 6 building blocks (6-mers), comprising over $10^{14}$ molecules. Notably, while some algorithms show only marginal improvements over a random search approach in a relatively small, precomputed, search space, their performance in the larger chemical space is orders of magnitude better. Specifically, Bayesian optimization identified a thousand times more promising molecules with the desired properties compared to random search, using the same computational resources.

Abstract: We report the first measurement of the azimuthal anisotropy of J$/\psi$ at forward rapidity ($1.2<|\eta|<2.2$) in Au$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The data were collected by the PHENIX experiment in 2014 and 2016 with integrated luminosity of 14.5~nb$^{-1}$. The second Fourier coefficient ($v_2$) of the azimuthal distribution of $J/\psi$ is determined as a function of the transverse momentum ($p_T$) using the event-plane method. The measurements were performed for several selections of collision centrality: 0\%--50\%, 10\%--60\%, and 10\%-40\%. We find that in all cases the values of $v_2(p_T)$, which quantify the elliptic flow of J$/\psi$, are consistent with zero. The results are consistent with measurements at midrapidity, indicating no significant elliptic flow of the J$/\psi$ within the quark-gluon-plasma medium at collision energies of $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV., Comment: 369 authors from 72 institutions, 12 pages, 7 figures, 5 tables. v1 is version submitted to Physical Review C. 5. Applying Multi-Fidelity Bayesian Optimization in Chemistry: Open Challenges and Major Considerations

Abstract: Multi fidelity Bayesian optimization (MFBO) leverages experimental and or computational data of varying quality and resource cost to optimize towards desired maxima cost effectively. This approach is particularly attractive for chemical discovery due to MFBO's ability to integrate diverse data sources. Here, we investigate the application of MFBO to accelerate the identification of promising molecules or materials. We specifically analyze the conditions under which lower fidelity data can enhance performance compared to single-fidelity problem formulations. We address two key challenges, selecting the optimal acquisition function, understanding the impact of cost, and data fidelity correlation. We then discuss how to assess the effectiveness of MFBO for chemical discovery.

Abstract: The $J/\psi$ and $\psi(2S)$ charmonium states, composed of $c\bar{c}$ quark pairs and known since the 1970s, are widely believed to serve as ideal probes to test quantum chromodynamics in high-energy hadronic interactions. However, there is not yet a complete understanding of the charmonium-production mechanism. Recent measurements of $J/\psi$ production as a function of event charged-particle multiplicity at the collision energies of both the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) show enhanced $J/\psi$ production yields with increasing multiplicity. One potential explanation for this type of dependence is multiparton interactions (MPI). We carry out the first measurements of self-normalized $J/\psi$ yields and the $\psi(2S)$ to $J/\psi$ ratio at both forward and backward rapidities as a function of self-normalized charged-particle multiplicity in $p$$+$$p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV. In addition, detailed {\sc pythia} studies tuned to RHIC energies were performed to investigate the MPI impacts. We find that the PHENIX data at RHIC are consistent with recent LHC measurements and can only be described by {\sc pythia} calculations that include MPI effects. The forward and backward $\psi(2S)$ to $J/\psi$ ratio, which serves as a unique and powerful approach to study final-state effects on charmonium production, is found to be less dependent on the charged-particle multiplicity., Comment: 301 authors from 69 institutions, 8 pages, 3 figures. v1 is version submitted to Physical Review D Letters. Abstract: High-momentum two-particle correlations are a useful tool for studying jet-quenching effects in the quark-gluon plasma. Angular correlations between neutral-pion triggers and charged hadrons with transverse momenta in the range 4--12~GeV/$c$ and 0.5--7~GeV/$c$, respectively, have been measured by the PHENIX experiment in 2014 for Au$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$~GeV. Suppression is observed in the yield of high-momentum jet fragments opposite the trigger particle, which indicates jet suppression stemming from in-medium partonic energy loss, while enhancement is observed for low-momentum particles. The ratio and differences between the yield in Au$+$Au collisions and $p$$+$$p$ collisions, $I_{AA}$ and $\Delta_{AA}$, as a function of the trigger-hadron azimuthal separation, $\Delta\phi$, are measured for the first time at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. 8. White Girl Wasted: Gender Performativity of Sexuality with Alcohol in National Panhellenic Conference Sorority Women

Abstract: This narrative qualitative study explored how sorority members negotiated their identities within systems of hegemony with their student communities. Sorority members used women's empowerment discourse to rationalize how they consumed alcohol, engaged in frequent consensual sexual relationships, and navigated relationships with fraternity men and across their campus sorority/fraternity communities. Implications for practice included harm reduction, sex education, and supportive policies.

9. Educating Future Leaders in Fraternities: Outcomes from Participation in a National Fraternity Emerging Leaders Program

Abstract: Campus engagement opportunities such as leadership development have potential for students to strengthen their personal skills. As such, fraternities and sororities can play an influential role in strengthening students' leadership skills. The present study examines the efficacy of a fraternity emerging leaders program, which is an educational opportunity focused on the development of new leaders. Data were collected from participants at three time intervals. Findings suggest students develop across several leadership domains, creating a stronger appreciation of their organizational values and fraternity ritual compared to non-participants. Recommendations for practice are included to address the transfer problem of leadership application and provide future directions for emerging leader program development.

11. PolyCL: Contrastive Learning for Polymer Representation Learning via Explicit and Implicit Augmentations

Abstract: Polymers play a crucial role in a wide array of applications due to their diverse and tunable properties. Establishing the relationship between polymer representations and their properties is crucial to the computational design and screening of potential polymers via machine learning. The quality of the representation significantly influences the effectiveness of these computational methods. Here, we present a self-supervised contrastive learning paradigm, PolyCL, for learning high-quality polymer representation without the need for labels. Our model combines explicit and implicit augmentation strategies for improved learning performance. The results demonstrate that our model achieves either better, or highly competitive, performances on transfer learning tasks as a feature extractor without an overcomplicated training strategy or hyperparameter optimisation. Further enhancing the efficacy of our model, we conducted extensive analyses on various augmentation combinations used in contrastive learning. This led to identifying the most effective combination to maximise PolyCL's performance.

Abstract: The PHENIX experiment measured the centrality dependence of two-pion Bose-Einstein correlation functions in $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$~GeV Au$+$Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The data are well represented by L\'evy-stable source distributions. The extracted source parameters are the correlation-strength parameter $\lambda$, the L\'evy index of stability $\alpha$, and the L\'evy-scale parameter $R$ as a function of transverse mass $m_T$ and centrality. The $\lambda(m_T)$ parameter is constant at larger values of $m_T$, but decreases as $m_T$ decreases. The L\'evy scale parameter $R(m_T)$ decreases with $m_T$ and exhibits proportionality to the length scale of the nuclear overlap region. The L\'evy exponent $\alpha(m_T)$ is independent of $m_T$ within uncertainties in each investigated centrality bin, but shows a clear centrality dependence. At all centralities, the L\'evy exponent $\alpha$ is significantly different from that of Gaussian ($\alpha=2$) or Cauchy ($\alpha=1$) source distributions. Comparisons to the predictions of Monte-Carlo simulations of resonance-decay chains show that in all but the most peripheral centrality class (50%-60%), the obtained results are inconsistent with the measurements, unless a significant reduction of the in-medium mass of the $\eta'$ meson is included. In each centrality class, the best value of the in-medium $\eta'$ mass is compared to the mass of the $\eta$ meson, as well as to several theoretical predictions that consider restoration of $U_A(1)$ symmetry in hot hadronic matter., Comment: 401 authors from 75 institutions, 20 pages, 15 figures, 2 tables. v1 is version submitted to Physical Review C. Abstract: Stability and dependence are model-theoretic notions that have recently proved highly effective in the study of structural and algorithmic properties of hereditary graph classes, and are considered key notions for generalizing to hereditary graph classes the theory of sparsity developed for monotone graph classes (where an essential notion is that of nowhere dense class). The theory of sparsity was initially built on the notion of shallow minors and on the idea of excluding different sets of minors, depending on the depth at which these minors can appear. In this paper, we follow a similar path, where shallow vertex minors replace shallow minors. In this setting, we provide a neat characterization of stable / dependent hereditary classes of graphs: A hereditary class of graphs $\mathscr C$ is (1) dependent if and only if it does not contain all permutation graphs and, for each integer $r$, it excludes some split interval graph as a depth-$r$ vertex minor; (2) stable if and only if, for each integer $r$, it excludes some half-graph as a depth-$r$ vertex minor. A key ingredient in proving these results is the preservation of stability and dependence of a class when taking bounded depth shallow vertex minors. We extend this preservation result to binary structures and get, as a direct consequence, that bounded depth shallow vertex minors of graphs with bounded twin-width have bounded twin-width.

Abstract: JSNS$^2$ searches for short baseline neutrino oscillations with a baseline of 24~meters and a target of 17~tonnes of the Gd-loaded liquid scintillator. The correct algorithm on the event reconstruction of events, which determines the position and energy of neutrino interactions in the detector, are essential for the physics analysis of the data from the experiment. Therefore, the performance of the event reconstruction is carefully checked with calibrations using $^{252}$Cf source. This manuscript describes the methodology and the performance of the event reconstruction.

Abstract: JSNS$^2$ (J-PARC Sterile Neutrino Search at J-PARC Spallation Neutron Source) is an experiment that is searching for sterile neutrinos via the observation of $\bar{\nu}_{\mu} \rightarrow \bar{\nu}_e$ appearance oscillations using neutrinos with muon decay-at-rest. For this search, rejecting cosmic-ray-induced neutron events by Pulse Shape Discrimination (PSD) is essential because the JSNS$^2$ detector is located above ground, on the third floor of the building. 20. Community College Presidents and Campus Safety: Perspectives on Critical Issues

Abstract: Community college presidents must understand the phenomenon of campus safety. For this mixed-methods study, community college presidents in one state were surveyed, and three presidents from the same community college system participated in in-depth interviews. Descriptive statistics measured the levels community college presidents' knowledge and perceptions on campus safety. The in-depth interviews provided a deeper understanding of the connections between community college presidents and campus safety. Overall, the results show that campus safety is important to community college presidents, who believe that, overall, their institutions are safe. We found that community college presidents believe they should be proactive and reinforce values that promote and prioritize campus safety, follow regulations, and provide sufficient resources to ensure campus safety measures. However, inadequate funding also plays a role in what can be allocated, and community college presidents voiced that they were concerned about promoting safety in the face of declining budgets and resources.

Abstract: The PHENIX experiment has performed a systematic study of identified charged-hadron ($\pi^\pm$, $K^\pm$, $p$, $\bar{p}$) production at midrapidity in $p$$+$Al, $^3$He$+$Au, Cu$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV and U$+$U collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=193$ GeV. Identified charged-hadron invariant transverse-momentum ($p_T$) and transverse-mass ($m_T$) spectra are presented and interpreted in terms of radially expanding thermalized systems. The particle ratios of $K/\pi$ and $p/\pi$ have been measured in different centrality ranges of large (Cu$+$Au, U$+$U) and small ($p$$+$Al, $^3$He$+$Au) collision systems. The values of $K/\pi$ ratios measured in all considered collision systems were found to be consistent with those measured in $p$$+$$p$ collisions. However the values of $p/\pi$ ratios measured in large collision systems reach the values of $\approx0.6$, which is $\approx2$ times larger than in $p$$+$$p$ collisions. These results can be qualitatively understood in terms of the baryon enhancement expected from hadronization by recombination. Identified charged-hadron nuclear-modification factors ($R_{AB}$) are also presented. Enhancement of proton $R_{AB}$ values over meson $R_{AB}$ values was observed in central $^3$He$+$Au, Cu$+$Au, and U$+$U collisions. The proton $R_{AB}$ values measured in $p$$+$Al collision system were found to be consistent with $R_{AB}$ values of $\phi$, $\pi^\pm$, $K^\pm$, and $\pi^0$ mesons, which may indicate that the size of the system produced in $p$$+$Al collisions is too small for recombination to cause a noticeable increase in proton production., Comment: 480 authors from 78 institutions, 18 pages, 6 tables, 16 figures. v2 is version accepted for publication in Physical Review C. 22. Educating Undergraduate Student Leaders: A Study of Learning in a Leadership Program of a National Fraternity

Abstract: Leadership development experiences have long been touted as necessary and positive for promoting the practice of effective leadership. Yet, little has been presented about the effectiveness of leadership development programs sponsored, designed, and implemented by membership-based organizations, like fraternities and sororities. This study examines the efficacy of a national fraternity sponsored leadership development program for chapter presidents in facilitating a meaningful developmental experience and encouraging long-term learning gains. Data collected at three intervals throughout the year in which program attendees were in office were analyzed using ANOVA and t-tests to identify the specific areas in which students reported learning gains and then measured examining the extent to which learning was retained.

23. Belonging, Racializing, and Placemaking in Student Organizations for Multiracial College Student Leaders

Abstract: This qualitative intersectional narrative inquiry examined how Multiracial college students find sense of belongingin student organizations by negotiating multiple racial identities and locations in traditionally monoracial spaces.Multiracial students sought membership in organizations because they felt invisible at their institutions. To findbelonging within student communities, they engaged in a difficult process of placemaking in which they experiencedmonoracism and other racialized microaggressions within student organizations. In time, they developed a sense ofbelonging by curating a small cohort of friends connected through their organizational involvement. These findingsreveal implications that further inform approaches for student involvement professionals and others who work withMultiracial students to increase their support and engagement across involvement contexts.

Abstract: The JSNS$^{2}$ (J-PARC Sterile Neutrino Search at J-PARC Spallation Neutron Source) is an experiment designed for the search for sterile neutrinos. The herbal decoction, Dokhwalgisaeng-tang (DHGST), has been commonly used in East Asia to treat osteoarthritis. However, there is insufficient evidence to draw clear conclusions concerning its effectiveness and safety for patients with KOA. We aim to determine the efficacy, safety, and economic feasibility of DHGST compared with Celecoxib, an oral COX-2 inhibitor, for patients with degenerative KOA.Trial Design and Methods: This multicenter, randomized, noninferiority trial, involving 160 participants who will be randomized using block randomization with 1:1 allocation, will compare DHGST and Celecoxib. The total trial period is 24 weeks after random allocation, comprising 12 weeks of treatment and 12 weeks of follow-up. Participants with KOA will be administered 200 mg of DHGST (treatment group) or Celecoxib capsules (control group) for 12 weeks. Efficacy and safety evaluations will be conducted at weeks 0, 4, 8, and 12, and 24. The primary outcome measurement is the Korean Western Ontario McMaster score at week 12. Changes in pain intensity using a 100 mm visual analog scale, changes in quality of life using a EuroQol 5-dimension 5-level self-report survey, and patient satisfaction will also be measured to evaluate effectiveness between the two groups. A trial-based economic feasibility evaluation will be conducted to analyze treatment cost-effectiveness from societal and healthcare system perspectives. Drug safety will be assessed through adverse reactions and laboratory test findings.Discussion: This trial protocol has the following limitations. Applying a double-dummy design is not possible, as the tablet and granule forms can easily be distinguished visually, and achieving participant blinding is challenging. Abstract: Abstract MYCN-amplified RB1 wild-type (MYCN amp RB1 +/+) retinoblastoma is a rare and aggressive subtype, often resistant to standard therapies. Identifying unique MRI features is crucial for diagnosing this subtype, as biopsy is not recommended. This study aimed to differentiate MYCN amp RB1 +/+ from the most prevalent RB1 -/- retinoblastoma using pretreatment MRI and radiomics. Ninety-eight unilateral retinoblastoma patients (19 MYCN cases and 79 matched controls) were included. Tumors on T2-weighted MR images were manually delineated and validated by experienced radiologists. Radiomics analysis extracted 120 features per tumor. Several combinations of feature selection methods, oversampling techniques and machine learning (ML) classifiers were evaluated in a repeated fivefold cross-validation machine learning pipeline to yield the best-performing prediction model for MYCN. The best model used univariate feature selection, data oversampling (duplicating MYCN cases), and logistic regression classifier, achieving a mean AUC of 0.78 (SD 0.12). SHAP analysis highlighted lower sphericity, higher flatness, and greater gray-level heterogeneity as predictive for MYCN amp RB1 +/+ status, yielding an AUC of 0.81 (SD 0.11). This study shows the potential of MRI-based radiomics to distinguish MYCN amp RB1 +/+ and RB1 -/- retinoblastoma subtypes.

Abstract: An efficient scheme of virtual machine image dissemination, which takes up a major portion of VM provisioning time, is key to ensuring that the service can be provisioned and delivered to clients in a timely manner. This paper presents a novel peer-to-peer protocol to efficiently distribute virtual machine images in a cloud data center. The primary idea of our proposal is to expedite the peer-to-peer content delivery by taking advantage of a high level of similarity that oftentimes exists among different VM images. The efficacy of our protocol is validated through an evaluation that demonstrates substantial performance gains over existing approaches.

38. A Case Study of College Student Participation in a Peer Mentorship Program within STEM Disciplines

Abstract: Peer mentoring programs have been shown to assist students with their college transition, and this study sought to understand the effects of peer mentorship participation of students in a STEM major. Using a semistructured interview method, six participants of a student-run, volunteer, peer mentorship program within the [Undergraduate STEM Program (USP)] provided participant feedback in one-on-one interviews. Using the constant comparison method, program outcome categories were identified based on participant responses. Participants were positive about the program and its benefits, including personal growth, development of a sense of responsibility for others, and learning from those who had gone through the program previously. However, issues with consistent engagement were identified that may be addressed through modifications to program structure and clarification of role expectations. Recommendations are included to address participant concerns.

39. The Academic Oratory Tax Paid by Undergraduates as Persons Who Stutter

Abstract: This study highlights the nuanced ways ten undergraduate students who stutter can experience ableism. A critical framework of stuttering ableism at the community and public policy levels are used to interrogate how ableism oppresses persons who stutter. Inclusive language humanizes the experiences of participants who experienced an academic oratory tax and invisibility. Participants paid an academic oratory tax through co-curricular participation and felt invisible, being cast into material participation and passive involvement. Implications for practice include new ways of thinking about belonging for persons who stutter in college.

Abstract: We report on the first production of an antihydrogen beam by charge exchange of 6.1 keV antiprotons with a cloud of positronium in the GBAR experiment at CERN. The antiproton beam was delivered by the AD/ELENA facility. The positronium target was produced from a positron beam itself obtained from an electron linear accelerator. We observe an excess over background indicating antihydrogen production with a significance of 3-4 standard deviations.

Abstract: Despite the recent phenomenal success of peer-to-peer video streaming services, their stumbling performance for high-quality videos remains a major obstacle to wider acceptance. This is because high-resolution videos instantly delivered over the Internet are increasingly becoming the norm. This paper presents a novel solution to keep up with ever more challenging QoE expectations. Our proposal of a hybrid push-pull protocol consists of two key components, namely, a new push strategy and an elastic window scheme. The former empowers the hybrid protocol to make an informed push-pull decision based on chunk status and network condition, whereas the latter ensures balance between the two conflicting goals of chunk dissemination and playback deadline. The efficacy of the proposed protocol is validated through a performance study that demonstrates substantial gains compared to existing approaches.

Abstract: PHENIX presents a simultaneous measurement of the production of direct $\gamma$ and $\pi^0$ in $d$$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV over a $p_T$ range of 7.5 to 18 GeV/$c$ for different event samples selected by event activity, i.e. charged-particle multiplicity detected at forward rapidity. Direct-photon yields are used to empirically estimate the contribution of hard-scattering processes in the different event samples. Using this estimate, the average nuclear-modification factor $R_{d\rm Au,EXP}^{\gamma^{\rm dir}}$ is $0.925{\pm}0.023({\rm stat}){\pm}0.15^{\rm (scale)}$, consistent with unity for minimum-bias (MB) $d$$+$Au events. For event classes with moderate event activity, $R_{d\rm Au,EXP}^{\gamma^{\rm dir}}$ is consistent with the MB value within 5\% uncertainty. These results confirm that the previously observed enhancement of high-$p_T$ $\pi^0$ production found in small-system collisions with low event activity is a result of a bias in interpreting event activity within the Glauber framework. In contrast, for the top 5\% of events with the highest event activity, $R_{d\rm Au,EXP}^{\gamma^{\rm dir}}$ is suppressed by 20\% relative to the MB value with a significance of $4.5\sigma$, which may be due to final-state effects., Comment: 279 authors from 69 institutions, 8 pages, 3 figures, v1 is version submitted to Physical Review Letters. Abstract: Reported here are transverse single-spin asymmetries ($A_{N}$) in the production of charged hadrons as a function of transverse momentum ($p_T$) and Feynman-$x$ ($x_F$) in polarized $p^{\uparrow}$+$p$, $p^{\uparrow}$+Al, and $p^{\uparrow}$+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV. The measurements have been performed at forward and backward rapidity ($1.4<|\eta|<2.4$) over the range of $1.50$) in $p^{\uparrow}$+$p$ collisions, whereas the $p^{\uparrow}$+Al and $p^{\uparrow}$+Au results show smaller asymmetries. Abstract: Presented are the first measurements of the transverse single-spin asymmetries ($A_N$) for neutral pions and eta mesons in $p$+Au and $p$+Al collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV in the pseudorapidity range $|\eta|<$0.35 with the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The asymmetries are consistent with zero, similar to those for midrapidity neutral pions and eta mesons produced in $p$+$p$ collisions. 48. A Popularity-Aware Semantic Overlay for Efficient Peer-to-Peer Search

Abstract: This paper presents a novel semantic overlay scheme that connects peers based on the similarity of their contents. Semantic closeness among overlay peers can effectively be determined via the exchanges of their content summary using Bloom filters. The overlay link quality is further improved by carefully selecting semantic neighbors according to their potential to contribute to content-based searches. The basic idea behind the semantic neighbor selection is that highly replicated documents should not excessively dominate the overlay topology, overshadowing rare to modestly-replicated items whose query efficiency is often more critical for overall search performance. The efficacy of the proposed semantic overlay is validated through our simulation study which demonstrates superior overlay link quality and query routing performance.

This study investigated the levels of communication competence, critical thinking disposition, problem-solving ability, and leadership of pharmacy students, and identified factors related to leadership.Methods: This study was conducted using a nationwide cross-sectional online survey with a self-administered questionnaire. A total of 416 third-to-sixth-year pharmacy students from all 35 pharmacy schools in South Korea, completed the survey from September 1 to 15, 2019. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, Pearson’s correlations, and multiple regression analysis. We verified construct validity by performing an exploratory factor analysis.Results: The pharmacy students revealed a moderate level of communication skills, critical thinking disposition, problem-solving ability, and leadership. Significant positive correlations were found among communication competence (r=0.724, p< 0.001), critical thinking disposition (r=0.615, p< 0.001), problem-solving ability (r=0.599, p< 0.001), and leadership. After adjustment for control variables, communication competence (β=0.319, p< 0.001) was found to be the most significant predictor of leadership (F=104.12, p< 0.001, R2=0.756).Conclusion: This study showed that the students’ leadership was influenced by their competence in communicating effectively, thinking critically, and solving problems. Pharmacy educators should acknowledge and implement innovative curriculum and assessment approaches in preparing pharmacy students for their professional paths.Keywords: leadership, communication competence, critical thinking disposition, problem-solving ability, pharmacy students

Although studies have investigated patient choice of anti-VEGF agent, little is known regarding factors that influence physician preference of anti-VEGF agent for their patients.Objective: To describe physician rationale and challenges in prescribing anti-VEGF treatments for patients with nAMD.Methods: Data were drawn from the Adelphi Real World nAMD Disease Specific Programme™, a cross-sectional survey with retrospective data capture of physicians and their patients with nAMD in the United States between October 2021 and May 2022. Physicians (n = 56) reported data for up to 13 consecutively consulting patients (n = 451), including current anti-VEGF treatments used, factors affecting physicians’ choice of anti-VEGF agent and treatment strategy, and restrictions on specific agents.Results: Most physicians prefer employing a “treat-and-extend” treatment strategy, over “fixed interval” or “pro re nata” strategies. However, in routine clinical practice, “treat-and-extend” was reported for less than half of nAMD-diagnosed eyes. Top factors influencing physician choice of anti-VEGF agent and treatment strategy included maximizing clinical benefit (eg visual acuity gains and fluid control), patient convenience, and reducing out-of-pocket costs. However, physicians also reported facing substantial roadblocks in prescribing their choice of anti-VEGF agent, including restrictions on approved agents and gaps in insurance coverage. Persistent fluid was the most common physician-selected reason for switching a patient away from an anti-VEGF agent.Conclusion: Physicians face barriers to prescribing their preferred anti-VEGF agents in real-world healthcare settings. Overcoming these challenges may improve treatment outcomes for patients with nAMD.Plain Language Summary: People with wet age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD) have problems with their eyesight that can lead to blindness if left untreated. Eye doctors (ophthalmologists) use a class of medicine called anti-VEGF agents to treat people with wet AMD. However, eye doctors often face challenges in prescribing their anti-VEGF agent of choice. We surveyed eye doctors to determine the reasons why they preferred some anti-VEGF agents over others, as well as the barriers to prescribing these anti-VEGF agents. Eye doctors reported that they usually choose a specific anti-VEGF agent because it leads to better vision, has lower cost for people with wet AMD, or may reduce the number of appointments needed for people with wet AMD. Eye doctors also noted that they face challenges in treating people with wet AMD, including restrictions and limited insurance coverage for certain anti-VEGF agents. Solving these problems could help eye doctors use their medicine of choice and improve eyesight even more when they treat people with wet AMD.
