Polyommatus peilei Bethune-Baker, 1921 Examined materials: 1 ♀ in Piramagroon Mountain, 2.5 km North Z��w�� Village, Sulaymaniyah (35��45���41���N, 45��14���17���E), Altitude: 1800 m. 29.7.2016 (F.A. Khudhur leg.). 1 in ♀ Piramagroon Mountain, 2.5 km North Z��w�� Village, Sulaymaniyah (35��45���41���N, 45��14���17���E), Altitude: 1800 m. 10.8.2020 (F.A. Khudhur leg.). Diagnosis: In female (figs. 1C, 1D, 2C & 2D), wing span 30 mm, wing upperside has brown ground color with darker veins. The discoidal black spot of forewings is slightly appearing. Submarginal markings are dark brown with well-developed orange lunulae on hind wings. Female wing underside has greyish orange ground color; only hindwings have basal black spots. Discoidal spots present on both wings, those of the forewings are thicker except the first spot which is smaller and slightly far from the outer margin. Postdiscal black marking thick, slightly curved, and exists only on forewings. Polyommatus karindus (Riley, 1921) Examined materials: 1 ♀ in Piramagroon Mountain, 2.5 km North Z��w�� Village, Sulaymaniyah (35��45���41���N, 45��14���17���E), Altitude: 1800 m. 15.8.2016 (F.A. Khudhur leg.). 1 ♂ in Swr K��w Mountain, 1.0 km Northwest Siya Gw��z Village, Penjwen, Sulaymaniyah (35��48���35���N, 45��47���37���E). Altitude: 1500 m. 24.8.2016 (F.A. Khudhur leg.). 1 ♂ in Piramagroon Mountain, 2.5 km North Z��w�� Village, Sulaymaniyah (35��45���41���N, 45��14���17���E), Altitude: 1800 m. 10.8.2020 (F.A. Khudhur leg.). Diagnosis: In male (figs. 1A, 2A & 2B), wing span 36 mm, wing upperside ground color is brilliant blue with azure tinge. Markings are absent on both fore- and hindwings. Narrow, black outer marginal line on forewings and hindwings. Borders of both wings dark grey; hindwings veins terminated with fine black tips. Male wing underside has light grey ground color, only hindwings have basal black spots. Discoidal spots present on both wings. Postdiscal black marking very narrow, longitudinal, and exists only on forewings. Submarginal and marginal lunulae only slightly appear. In female (fig. 1B), wing span 38 mm, wing upperside has brown ground color with darker veins. Forewings have discoidal black spots. Submarginal markings are dark brown with well-developed orange lunulae on both wings. Female wing underside has slightly darker grey ground color, only hindwings have basal black spots. Discoidal spots present on both wings, those of the forewings are thicker. Postdiscal black marking are thick, slightly curved, and exists only on forewings. S. ephippigera (Figure-1 a. & b.) is a medium sized insect with male measurements to 65 mm and female measurement to 70 mm. The head is large and the body is thick. The ovipositor, slightly curved upwards, its length is about twice the length of the pronotum. Body color ranges from green to dark brown and the face is darker in color than the body (Figure- 3 a-d). The female is wingless, while the male has short wing tegmina measuring a third of the length of the pronotum. FIGURE-2: Distribution map of S. ephippigera (blue) & S. syrica (red) in Iraq. S. syriaca (Figure-1 c. & d.) is larger and more robust than S. ephippigera, males measuring about 90 mm and females about 100 mm, each with a larger head and thicker body. The ovipositor has the same shape and size of that of S. ephippigera. Body color ranges from light tan color to green and dark brown with reddish brown face color (Figure-3 e. & f.). Female wingless; male tegmina shorter than those of S. ephippigera, measuring about one quarter of the length of the pronotum. These two species are distributed in separated areas without syntopic populations, in steppes, valleys and mountain plains. They live on slopes of 0���45�� at elevations range from 500 m to 1700 m a.s.l.
