Plants are very potential & vital source for human health and also used therapeutically in the various kidney disorders due to presence of phytochemical constituents. There are numerous herbs existing that have more pharmacological activities including with nephroprotective activity. Now a days herbal drugs are verified & proved as nephroprotective agents and used for improving renal health, even reverse renal damages. The current review is targeted to explain the Unani & modern concept of kidney disorders, nephrotoxicity and the list of scientifically proved medicinal plants having nephroprotective activity medicinal plants which used in the treatment of renal disorders. People are using herbs as a medicine since ancient time. Herbal medicine has a valuable importance in the treatment of many chronic as well as life threatening diseases with minimal or about negligible side effects. In the classical Unani literature drug is classify in to dwae ghizayi and ghizae dwai. Tukhme soya (Anethum sowa) a Unani drug having dietary value as well as medicinal value also. Tukhme soya is a green crock herb which is commonly found in many parts of India and it is cooked with palak, so Tukhme soya is generally comes in the category of ghizae dwai. In classical Unani literature it is used in different diseases like Ehtebas e tams (amenorrhea), Ehtebase baul (retention of urine), Nafakhe Shikam (flatulence), Marod (spasmodic pain), Da’emi Qabz (chronic constipation), Bawasir (hemorrhoids), Hichki (hiccups), Ghisyan (yawning), Baul fil Farash (Bed wetting), Mufatite hisate kulliya wa Masana (Lithotripsic of kidney and bladder), Indemale Qrooh (Wound healing) specially those wound which are present on genitalia etc. so Tukhme soya used as carminative, stomachic, diuretic, aromatic stimulant, galactogogue, emmenagogue, anthelmintic (hookworm infestation) antiflatulence.  The present review is exposed its pharmacology and Phytochemistry in scientifically manner.

Ethno-botanical use and traditional knowledge of plants have been usually recognized all over the world. The outstanding characteristics of extracts obtained from this drug have been technically studied, attributing the main biological activity to its tannin and flavonoid content. Recent study about this drug Adiantum capillus-veneris Linn requires pharmacognostical evidences to develop quality-control methods for raw materials and extracts produced with this plant drug.  In this research article macro and micro-scopic studies were proven the authentication of the real drug in which adulteration is allowed in commercial samples of this plant material. The parameters which were mention in this study all are according to WHO guidelines and Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP). The morphological characteristics present in this article can be useful for quick identification of the drug, particularly useful in the case of powdered drug. Physicochemical parameters such as total ash, water soluble ash, acid insoluble ash, loss on drying, percentage of foreign matter and extractive values were determined. Preliminary phytochemical screening in different solvents showed the presence of flavonoids, terpenoids, fats, tannins and phenolic compounds. The various phytochemicals presence in the drug are confirmed by thin layer chromatography (TLC) profile. The study can serve as a valuable source of information and provide suitable standards for the presence of various phytochemicals. The results extracted from this study such as identification, phytochemical investigation etc. could be helpful in future research and uses
