Abstract Disturbances in the Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF) and solar conditions can affect the geomagnetic field measurements. In the current study, the influence of IMF and solar fluctuations on the nighttime Pc3-5 and Pi2 pulsations at low latitudes is investigated. Geomagnetic data recorded by the Egyptian geomagnetic observatories are used to examine the occurrence of nighttime pulsation events in Egypt. The corresponding daytime data from the Honolulu (HON) INTERMAGNET observatory were used for comparison between nighttime and daytime pulsation activity aiming for a better understanding of their sources. Two pulsation activities occurred on 7 and 27 February 2014 under different IMF and solar conditions were examined. Results of data analysis indicate that geomagnetic field fluctuations (Pc3-5 and Pi2 pulsations) are affected by changes in the IMF and solar conditions. The occurrence of space weather events such as geomagnetic storms and Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) can significantly affect the coherence and correlations between the pulsation wave-packets observed at nighttime and daytime suggesting different generation mechanisms for each pulsation event.

Abstract Background The fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), is a polyphagous insect pest species that travel great distances every summer to disperse. They mostly feed on maize and over 350 other crops. In this investigation, two entomopathogens: Beauveria bassiana and Heterorhabditis taysearae, were utilized to test the efficacy of each against S. frugiperda separately and then as a group by inoculating H. taysearae two days after fungal infection. Results Evaluations were done on mortality percentage, infective juvenile (IJ) production, and conidia production. The LT50 continually reduced with increases in nematode and fungus concentrations. For the LC50 value, the H. taysearae isolate was 289 IJs/larva after 96 h of treatment, while for B. bassiana isolate, it was 106 CFU/ml after 144 h of treatment. Dual infections with B. bassiana and H. taysearae had a beneficial effect on pest mortality, resulting in 83% mortality, and caused a significant increase in conidia production while utilizing the nematode or fungal separately caused decrease in mortality (63 and 73%, respectively). Conclusions The study’s findings indicated a quicker time to death and suggested that combining a moderately pathogenic fungal isolate with nematodes could raise the mortality rate. The mutually beneficial relationship between B. bassiana and H. taysearae controls S. frugiperda.

In this paper, we introduce the Enhanced Whale Optimization Algorithm (EWA) to optimize dependent task offloading in a multi-edge cloud computing environment. Our proposed algorithm aims to identify the most suitable offloading scenario for dependent tasks, focusing on minimizing total processing latency, energy consumption, and associated costs. We operate within a system comprising many decentralized Mobile Edge Computing servers (MECs) and a centralized cloud server. Two novel improvement operations, namely Frame Shifting (FS) and Load Redistribution Strategy (LRS), are introduced to enhance the performance of the whale algorithm. Through simulation, our results demonstrate the superior performance of EWA. Specifically, compared to the Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA), EWA achieves a remarkable reduction in latency by 22.84%, a substantial decrease in energy consumption by 78.28%, and a notable reduction in cost usage by 61.47%. These outcomes underscore the efficacy and practical significance of the proposed EWA in addressing the challenges posed by dependent task offloading in the multi-edge cloud computing landscape.

IntroductionGroundwater demand has been considerably heightened due to rapid urban growth, specifically in arid areas that rely primarily on groundwater. This study aims to utilize remote sensing and aeromagnetic data, combined with the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) based GIS, to evaluate potential groundwater zones in the Sohag area, Egypt.MethodsNine thematic layers, including soil moisture, rainfall, lithology, normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), drainage density, lineament density, slope, and land use/land cover, were developed using various remote sensing datasets. Besides the remote sensing-derived thematic layers, a geophysics-derived thematic layer represented by the RTP aeromagnetic map was included. The aeromagnetic data were analyzed and interpreted to outline the subsurface structure affecting groundwater storage and flow. Also, the aeromagnetic data analysis helps estimate the basement depth that constitutes the Nubian Aquifer’s base and identifies regions with considerable thick sedimentary deposits and significant water reserves.Results and discussionThe groundwater potentiality map was consistent with production wells in the area, and sites for drilling new wells were predicted, especially in the Nile Valley around the Tahta, El-Hamimia, and west Sohag cities. The most promising sites are clustered along the Nile Valley, and the study area’s northwestern and northeastern parts. The results indicate that the predominant magnetic structural trends are NW-SE, NE-SW, N-S, and E-W, which contribute to the formation of a series of subsurface horsts (H) and grabens (G). Three main basins (A, B, and C) were identified as the most profound areas. These basins represent the most promising areas for groundwater accumulation, making them attractive for future hydrogeological exploration. This integrated approach strongly offers a powerful and effective tool to assist in developing an appropriate plan to manage groundwater in arid regions.

Vehicle communication is one of the most vital aspects of modern transportation systems because it enables real-time data transmission between vehicles and infrastructure to improve traffic flow and road safety. The next generation of mobile technology, 5G, was created to address earlier generations' growing need for high data rates and quality of service issues. 5G cellular technology aims to eliminate penetration loss by segregating outside and inside settings and allowing extremely high transmission speeds, achieved by installing hundreds of dispersed antenna arrays using a distributed antenna system (DAS). Huge multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems are accomplished via DASs and huge MIMO systems, where hundreds of dispersed antenna arrays are built. Because deep learning (DL) techniques employ artificial neural networks with at least one hidden layer, they are used in this study for vehicle recognition. They can swiftly process vast quantities of labeled training data to identify features. Therefore, this paper employed the VGG19 DL model through transfer learning to address the task of vehicle detection and obstacle identification. It also proposes a novel horizontal handover prediction method based on channel characteristics. The suggested techniques are designed for heterogeneous networks or horizontal handovers using DL. In the designated surrounding regions of 5G environments, the suggested detection and handover algorithms identified vehicles with a success rate of 97 % and predicted the next station for handover.

This study aimed to analysis open‐hole tensile strength, pin-bearing strength, cutting temperature, and surface roughness of drilled thin glass fiber reinforced polymer composites. The specimens were clamped from both sides during drilling operations. The cutting temperature was measured using high resolution infrared camera. Surface roughness was evaluated by seven parameters to identify the most suitable ones. Multiple regression models were developed to predict critical thrust force (CTF), critical feed, and cutting temperature in drilling operations. The measurements indicate that the cutting temperature is higher than the matrix's glass transition temperature and hence, the surface roughness paramaters Ra, Rq and Ry are increased at the maximum cutting conditions by 57%, 51%, and 36% respectively. In contrast, the bearing strength improved by 13%. This peculiar phenomenon was deeply analyzed with the aid of short ageing effects on the post curing, which increase the crosslinking density within the composites and improve the matrix's capacity to efficiently transmit the loads to the reinforcing fibers. For the first time, the optimum cutting conditions were determined based on the optimum short ageing parameters (temperature and time). Supported drilling increases CTF by 23%, which can reduce machining time and manufacturing costs with fewer delamination concerns.

Abstract Despite the fact that delayed cord clamping (DCC) is recommended by many international organizations, early cord clamping is still widely practiced worldwide. The overarching goal of the DCC practice is to maximize neonatal benefits as achieving higher hemoglobin levels and decreasing the incidence of anemia as well as avoiding the adverse consequences. The current study was conducted to identify the effect of of DCC on the number of CD34+ stem cells in cord blood of full term neonates after two different timings (30 and 60 s after birth). One hundred and three full-term (FT) newborn babies (gestational age 37–40 weeks) delivered by elective cesarean section were randomly assigned into 2 groups: Group 1: babies were subjected to DCC 30 s after birth (50 newborns). Group 2: babies were subjected to DCC 60 s after birth (53 newborns). Neonates in group 2 had significantly higher levels of hemoglobin, hematocrit, total nucleated cells and CD34+ cells compared to those in group 1. The practice of DCC 60 s after birth achieved better CD34+ stem cells transfer in FT neonates than clamping the cord after 30 s.

Due to the emerging demands on shifting focus towards the development of more student-centered and engaging learning experiences, this systematic review elucidates the effectiveness of PeerWise introduction into the blended learning model in Physiology education based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. Twenty electronic databases were utilized to access related studies between years 2010 to April 2020. A total of eight recent articles on PeerWise in physiology were analyzed. Three studies were conducted among medical students, and five studies were among other courses (i.e., Pharmacy, Biomedical Science, Optometry, and Human Physiology). Majority of the study designs were of cross-sectional quantitative and qualitative studies. Data extracted from the articles include (i) the pattern of PeerWise usage, (ii) the association between PeerWise and academic achievement, (iii) the level of student engagement, (iv) the quality of questions created and (v) students? perceptions. Four emerging themes were identified among students' perceptions; (i) learning competency, (ii) fun learning experience, (iii) engagement with peers, and (iv) motivation. Methodological quality and risk of biased were assessed; and research gaps, limitations and recommendations were addressed. The present review serves as a guide for new authors to refine their knowledge and improve future research in the topic area.

Objective To assess the effects of COVID-19 vaccines in women before or during pregnancy on SARS-CoV-2 infection-related, pregnancy, offspring and reactogenicity outcomes.Design Systematic review and meta-analysis.Data sources Major databases between December 2019 and January 2023.Study selection Nine pairs of reviewers contributed to study selection. We included test-negative designs, comparative cohorts and randomised trials on effects of COVID-19 vaccines on infection-related and pregnancy outcomes. Non-comparative cohort studies reporting reactogenicity outcomes were also included.Quality assessment, data extraction and analysis Two reviewers independently assessed study quality and extracted data. We undertook random-effects meta-analysis and reported findings as HRs, risk ratios (RRs), ORs or rates with 95% CIs.Results Sixty-seven studies (1 813 947 women) were included. Overall, in test-negative design studies, pregnant women fully vaccinated with any COVID-19 vaccine had 61% reduced odds of SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy (OR 0.39, 95% CI 0.21 to 0.75; 4 studies, 23 927 women; I2=87.2%) and 94% reduced odds of hospital admission (OR 0.06, 95% CI 0.01 to 0.71; 2 studies, 868 women; I2=92%). In adjusted cohort studies, the risk of hypertensive disorders in pregnancy was reduced by 12% (RR 0.88, 95% CI 0.82 to 0.92; 2 studies; 115 085 women), while caesarean section was reduced by 9% (OR 0.91, 95% CI 0.85 to 0.98; 6 studies; 30 192 women). We observed an 8% reduction in the risk of neonatal intensive care unit admission (RR 0.92, 95% CI 0.87 to 0.97; 2 studies; 54 569 women) in babies born to vaccinated versus not vaccinated women. In general, vaccination during pregnancy was not associated with increased risk of adverse pregnancy or perinatal outcomes. Pain at the injection site was the most common side effect reported (77%, 95% CI 52% to 94%; 11 studies; 27 195 women).Conclusion COVID-19 vaccines are effective in preventing SARS-CoV-2 infection and related complications in pregnant women.PROSPERO registration number CRD42020178076.

Abstract Purpose This in vivo study aims to assess the pink esthetic score in the anterior maxilla after computer-guided immediate implant installation and fully digital immediate temporalization with and without grafting the jumping gap with a mixture of 1:1 autogenous and xenograft particulates. Materials and methods Twenty-four patients with non-restorable upper anterior teeth in the aesthetic zone have undergone a traumatic extraction for the non-restorable tooth followed by immediate implant placement using a 3D-printed surgical guide according to prosthetically driven implant placement. The patients were divided into two groups. The study group received the dental implant after grafting the jumping gap with 1:1 autogenous and xenograft particulates, while the control group received the dental implant without grafting the jumping gap. Each patient received a digitally fabricated, immediate, nonfunctional temporary prosthesis. The esthetic outcome was compared between the two groups using the pink esthetic score at implant insertion and after 6 months of follow-up. Statistical comparisons were carried out between the studied groups using the Mann-Whitney U test. Results Immediately postoperatively, there was no statistically significant difference between the median PES in the two groups (P-value = 0.746). After six months, the study group showed a statistically significantly higher median PES than the control group (P-value = 0.048). Conclusions Grafting the jumping distance in the immediate implant protocol helps achieve a better esthetic outcome. Clinical relevance The use of immediate guided implant placement along with grafting the jumping gap followed by immediate digital temporalization guarantees a better esthetic outcome while preserving time, cost, and the number of clinical visits. This study aimed to investigate the impact of some practical assembly errors on the performance of composite joints with M6 bolts in quasi-isotropic CFRP laminates with stacking sequence of [±45/0/90]2S, which are increasingly used in aerospace and automotive industries. The detailed experimental explanations of the behaviors of the bolted joints in CFRP composites with standard and unexpected joining parameters, exhibited a vital impact on the bearing and ultimate joint strength, stiffness, energy absorption, and failure mechanisms. The joining parameters include tightening torque (0-16Nm), bolt-hole clearance (0–240 μm), and washer-to-bolt hole clearance (0–500 μm) with different offset arrangements. The bolt axial force is monitored during the testing of double-lap bolted composite joints. The maximum performance of the bolted joints was observed at tightening torque of 12Nm, bolt-hole clearance up to 60 μm, washer-to-bolt hole neat-fit or with negative clearance arrangement. The first peak, 2 % offset, and ultimate strengths are increased, respectively, by 55.9 %, 56.4 % and 52.4 % compared to those of the pinned joints. The 2 % offset strength and stiffness of bolted joints with negative washer-to-bolt hole clearance arrangements is improved by 26.8 % and 57 % respectively compared to those having positive arrangements. Energy absorption increase almost linearly with bearing load with correlation coefficient of 0.982.

Abstract Background Asthma is a chronic inflammatory airway disease characterized by episodic reversible airway obstruction that variably presents with cough, wheezing, shortness of breath, or chest tightness. It is a multigenetic disease, where both genetic and environmental factors have significant roles in pathogenesis. As regard asthma pathogenesis, the chemokine/chemokine receptor system is considered a key point of the immune response in most allergic diseases. This study was done to estimate the prevalence of bronchial asthma among school age children and explore the association between the underlying gene polymorphisms in chemokine receptor 3 (CCR3) and symptom-based clinical asthma phenotypes among a cohort of Egyptian children. Results Prevalence of asthma is increasing (20.6%). There are male asthma predominance. Family history of bronchial asthma and allergic diseases are predominant risk factors for asthma development. Sixty asthmatic cases with different clinical phenotypes were compared to 100 healthy controls, results explored that eosinophilic percent and total serum IgE are significantly higher among asthmatic cases versus controls. There are no significant difference regarding eosinophilic percent, serum IgE, and CCR3 T51C gene polymorphism among different clinical asthma phenotypes. There is no significant difference as regards degree of severity of asthma and level of asthma control between CCR3 T51C gene polymorphism. Conclusion We conclude the prevalence of bronchial asthma is increasing. Also, eosinophilic percent and serum IgE are elevated in asthma patients, while CCR3 T51C gene polymorphism frequency seemed to be more prevalent among asthmatic subjects however without statistical significance. We recommend a prospective study on larger sample size to validate our results.

A new approach was used in drilling woven glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) composites to clamping the specimen by a controllable force at drill entry and exit sides. The influence of cutting and support conditions on thrust force, push-out and peel-up delaminations, and burr factor was investigated. A series of ASTM tests were implemented to determine tensile, in-plane shear, Mode I and Mode II fracture toughness properties, which were used to predict the critical thrust force (CTF) at delamination initiation. The delamination and burr areas were accurately measured via inexpensive, easy, and accurate image processing technique. Result from drilling processes revealed that the supported specimens are approximately free from burr accompanied with insignificant peeling within the drill (10 mm)/support hole (12 mm) tolerance. By using support plates, the thrust force was increased up to 8.3% compared to the unsupported conditions. On the other hand, the delaminations were decreased by about 65.5%. The delaminations were dominated by Mode I fracture toughness, which is lower than that of Mode II by 41%. The predicted CTF using concentrated load models are slightly lower than the measured values, which interpret the occurrence of delamination damage on the cutting zone.

Image semantic segmentation using deep learning algorithms plays a vital role in identifying different rock-forming minerals. In this paper, we employ the U-net model for its architecture that guarantees precise localization and efficient data utilization. We implement this deep learning model across two distinct datasets: (1) the first dataset from the ALEX Streckeisen website, and (2) the second dataset from the Gabal Nikeiba area, South Eastern Desert of Egypt. Our model exhibits excellent performance in both datasets, with an average accuracy of precision at 0.89 and 0.83, recall at 0.80 and 0.78, and F1 score at 0.82 and 0.79, respectively, helping in identifying and detecting rock-forming minerals in thin-section images. The model’s most exceptional performance is clearly in eleven different basement rock-forming minerals with precision up to 0.89, recall at 0.80, and F1 score at 0.82 on average. This study is significant as it represents the key to identifying and detecting minerals in the thin sections of rock samples in Egypt and the Arabian–Nubian Shield as a whole. By significantly reducing analysis time and improving accuracy compared to manual methods, it revolutionizes geological research and resource exploration in the region.

Background: Multidrug-resistant (MDR) Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) is a major public health threat. Ceftazidime/avibactam (CZA) and ceftolozane/tazobactam (C/T) are active against many MDR P. aeruginosa, and can improve the management of infected patients. However, resistance to the new antimicrobials has emerged in many countries. In this study we aimed to test the susceptibility of clinical isolates of MDR P. aeruginosa in our hospital to CZA and C/T, and to identify the role of carbapenemases in antimicrobial resistance. Methods: We studied 51 MDR P. aeruginosa isolates from 51 ICU patients admitted at Benha University Hospital in Egypt. Identification was done by VITEK-2 (BioMerieux). Testing the antimicrobial susceptibility was performed by disk diffusion method according to CLSI 2022. For all isolates, we used Carba Blue Test for phenotypic identification of carbapenemases, and multiplex PCR for detection of carbapenemase genes. Results: The isolates were 98% resistant to meropenem, while 23.5% were susceptible to each of C/T and CZA. Carbapenemase production was common, mostly by metallo- beta- lactamases (MBL). The most common carbapenemase genes were NDM, VIM and SIM. Carba Blue test identified carbapenemases in 52.9%, while multiplex PCR identified carbapenemase genes in 91.1%. Conclusion: Compared to conventional antibiotics, both CZA and C/T have shown moderate efficacy against our MDR P. aeruginosa isolates, making them good choices for the treatment of infection by some MDR P. aeruginosa. PCR is more sensitive than Carba Blue in detection of carbapenemase production.

Abstract Background Improper healthcare waste management practice is alarming in developing countries because resources are inadequate and waste management is often delegated to poorly educated and untrained laborers. This study aimed to compare the pre-KAP versus post-KAP towards the waste management program for nurses and housekeepers. In addition, it aimed to explore possible factors affecting the pre- and post-KAP in Mansoura Emergency University Hospital, Egypt. Subjects and methods One hundred thirty-three newly employed nurses, housekeepers, and those who need refreshment training as nominated by head nurses and link occupational health and safety nurses in the hospital were recruited for the study. The study’s intervention included multiple training sessions using a PowerPoint presentation in Arabic with appropriate illustrations followed by an open discussion. An Arabic self-administered questionnaire containing demographic and occupational history, knowledge (27 questions), attitude (10 questions), and practice (9 questions) was used pre- and post-intervention. Results The overall KAP scores among the studied healthcare workers were significantly higher after the intervention. Internet of Things (IoT) enables different smart environment objects to communicate without involving humans. Recently, IoT has started a new challenge within the healthcare sector called the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT). The huge amounts of data generated by IoMT entities need to be analyzed in real-time to improve the performance and quality of service of the IoMT applications. Mobile Edge Computing-enabled 5G system is shown as a successful paradigm to address such an obstacle. Numerous frameworks are introduced in literature based on this idea. This paper presents a thorough discussion of MEC-based IoMT healthcare systems.

The Igla Ahmr region in the Central Eastern Desert (CED) of Egypt comprises mainly syenogranites and alkali feldspar granites, with a few tonalite xenoliths. The mineral potential maps were presented in order to convert the concentrations of total rare earth elements (REEs) and associated elements such as Zr, Nb, Ga, Y, Sc, Ta, Mo, U, and Th into mappable exploration criteria based on the line density, five alteration indices, random forest (RF) machine learning, and the weighted sum model (WSM). According to petrography and geochemical analysis, random forest (RF) gives the best result and represents new locations for rare metal mineralization compared with the WSM. The studied tonalites resemble I-type granites and were crystallized from mantle-derived magmas that were contaminated by crustal materials via assimilation, while the alkali feldspar granites and syenogranites are peraluminous A-type granites. The tonalites are the old phase and are considered a transitional stage from I-type to A-type, whereas the A-type granites have evolved from the I-type ones. Their calculated zircon saturation temperature TZr ranges from 717 °C to 820 °C at pressure < 4 kbar and depth < 14 km in relatively oxidized conditions. The A-type granites have high SiO2 (71.46–77.22 wt.%), high total alkali (up to 9 wt.%), Zr (up to 482 ppm), FeOt/(FeOt + MgO) ratios > 0.86, A/CNK ratios > 1, Al2O3 + CaO < 15 wt.%, and high ΣREEs (230 ppm), but low CaO and MgO and negative Eu anomalies (Eu/Eu* = 0.24–0.43). These chemical features resemble those of post-collisional rare metal A-type granites in the Arabian-Nubian Shield (ANS). The parent magma of these A-type granites was possibly derived from the partial melting of the I-type tonalitic protolith during lithospheric delamination, followed by severe fractional crystallization in the upper crust in the post-collisional setting. Their rare metal-bearing minerals, including zircon, apatite, titanite, and rutile, are of magmatic origin, while allanite, xenotime, parisite, and betafite are hydrothermal in origin. The rare metal mineralization in the Igla Ahmr granites is possibly attributed to: (1) essential components of both parental peraluminous melts and magmatic-emanated fluids that have caused metasomatism, leading to rare metal enrichment in the Igla Ahmr granites during the interaction between rocks and fluids, and (2) structural control of rare metals by the major NW–SE structures (Najd trend) and conjugate N–S and NE–SW faults, which all are channels for hydrothermal fluids that in turn have led to hydrothermal alteration. This explains why rare metal mineralization in granites is affected by hydrothermal alteration, including silicification, phyllic alteration, sericitization, kaolinitization, and chloritization.

Background:. Informed consent is a fundamental pillar of patient rights and is an essential part of good clinical practice. In 2019, the International Confederation of Plastic Surgery Societies launched a survey to collect feedback on informed consent practices, with an aim to develop an international guideline for cosmetic surgery Methods:. A 15-question survey was sent to delegates of the International Confederation of Plastic Surgery Societies for dissemination to their national society members. The survey comprised a range of quantitative and qualitative questions. Descriptive and thematic analysis was performed. Results:. There were 364 respondents. Over half of the respondents reported no local informed consent policy, whereas others noted national society, specialist college, or government policies. The majority of respondents believed that the performing surgeon should be responsible for obtaining informed consent with at least two face-to-face consultations. Most respondents agreed with a cooling-off period (duration based on procedure type and use of high-risk devices). Regarding cosmetic breast augmentation, the majority of respondents felt that the performing surgeon should be responsible for postoperative management, including cases that occur as part of surgical tourism. Some respondents incorporate financial consent as part of their informed consent practice. Most supported the development of an international informed consent guideline. Conclusions:. Informed consent should result from face-to-face consultations with the performing surgeon. There should be a minimum cooling-off period. Postoperative surveillance should be available in all settings. The findings of this survey will help inform an international standardized informed consent guideline for cosmetic surgery.
