Multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods provide a framework for addressing sustainable forest management challenges, especially under climate change. This study offers a systematic review of MCDM applications in forest management from January 2010 to March 2024. Descriptive statistics were employed to analyze trends in MCDM use and geographic distribution. Thematic content analysis investigated the appearance of MCDM indicators supplemented by Natural Language Processing (NLP). Factorial Correspondence Analysis (FCA) explored correlations between models and publication outlets. We systematically searched Web of Science (WoS), Scopus, Google Scholar, Semantic Scholar, CrossRef, and OpenAlex using terms such as 'MCDM', 'forest management', and 'decision support'. We found that the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) were the most commonly used methods, followed by the Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluation (PROMETHEE), the Analytic Network Process (ANP), GIS, and Goal Programming (GP). Adoption varied across regions, with advanced models such as AHP and GIS less frequently used in developing countries due to technological constraints. These findings highlight emerging trends and gaps in MCDM application, particularly for argan forests, emphasizing the need for context-specific frameworks to support sustainable management in the face of climate change. Tree establishment to restore degraded boreal post-mining lands is challenged by low soil productivity, a harsh microclimate, and potentially high contaminant levels. The use of mixed vegetation can facilitate the microclimate but increase competition for soil resources. A statistical accounting of plant-plant interactions and adaptation to multispecies conditions is hard to achieve in field experiments; trials under controlled conditions can distinguish effects of planting density and species interactions in the early stages of plant establishment. A greenhouse trial was established in containers ('mesocosms') with waste rock or fine tailings from gold mines. Pregerminated (1-week-old) seedlings (Anus viridis subsp. crispa, Picea glauca, Populus tremuloides, Salix arbusculoides) were planted using a Nelder density gradient design, modified for species combinations. A relative competition effect was estimated as a competitiveness index for each species combination, calculated as a ratio of a coefficients in the Holliday growth equation. The specific leaf area (SLA) was measured to indicate plant water stress adaptation. All species grew better in monoculture on fine tailings, while only P. tremuloides grew better in all mixtures on waste rock. Although net positive effects of density on SLA increment during early growth suggested microclimate improvement on fine tailings, no mixture provided advantages for both species in paired combinations. L'etablissement des arbres pour rehabiliter des terrains affectes par l'exploitation miniere est compromis par une faible productivite du sol, un microclimat rude et potentiellement des niveaux eleves de contaminants. L'utilisation d'une vegetation mixte peut adoucir le microclimat mais accroitre la competition pour les ressources du sol. Une comptabilisation statistique des interactions entre les plantes et de l'adaptation aux conditions de multiples especes est difficile a realiser dans le cadre d'experiences sur le terrain; les essais en conditions controlees permettent de distinguer les effets de la densite de plantation et les interactions entre les especes aux premiers stades de l'etablissement des plantes. Un essai en serre a ete realise dans des recipients (mesocosmes) avec des dechets rocheux et des residus fins provenant de mines d'or. Des semis pregermes (ages d'une semaine) (Alnus viridis subsp. crispa, Picea glauca, Populus tremuloides, Salix arbusculoides) ont ete plantes selon un plan base sur la methode de Nelder, modifiee pour les combinaisons d'especes. Un effet relatif de competition a ete estime en tant qu'indice de competitivite pour chaque combinaison d'especes, calcule comme un rapport du coefficient a dans l'equation de croissance de Holliday. La surface foliaire specifique (SFS) a ete mesuree pour indiquer l'adaptation des plantes au stress hydrique. Toutes les especes ont eu une meilleure croissance en monoculture sur les residus fins alors que seul P. tremuloides a eu une meilleure croissance dans toutes les combinaisons sur les dechets rocheux. Bien que des effets nets de la densite sur l'accroissement de la SFS lors de la croissance initiale suggerent qu'il y avait une amelioration du microclimat sur les residus fins, aucun melange n'a procure des avantages pour les deux especes dans les combinaisons appariees. Fungi are among key actors in the biogeochemical processes occurring in mangrove ecosystems. In this study, we investigated the changes of fungal communities in selected mangrove species by exploring differences in diversity, structure and the degree of ecological rearrangement occurring within the rhizospheres of four mangrove species (Sonneratia alba, Rhizophora mucronata, Ceriops tagal and Avicennia marina) at Gazi Bay and Mida Creek in Kenya. Alpha diversity investigation revealed that there were no significant differences in species diversity between the same mangrove species in the different sites. Rather, significant differences were observed in fungal richness for some of the mangrove species. Chemical parameters of the mangrove sediment significantly correlated with fungal alpha diversity and inversely with richness. The fungal community structure was significantly differentiated by mangrove species, geographical location and chemical parameters. Taxonomic analysis revealed that 96% of the amplicon sequence variants belonged to the Phylum Ascomycota, followed by Basidiomycota (3%). Predictive FUNGuild and co-occurrence network analysis revealed that the fungal communities in Gazi Bay were metabolically more diverse compared to those of Mida Creek. Overall, our results demonstrate that anthropogenic activities influenced fungal richness, community assembly and their potential ecological functions in the mangrove ecosystems investigated. Aerial yam (Dioscorea bulbifera L.) is a crop of great economic importance and an excellent candidate for improving food security in developing countries. Understanding the genetic variability of any crop species is a decisive step for its improvement and requires characterization and evaluation of available germplasm. The objectives of this study were to determine the extent of genetic variability, estimate the association between agromorphological traits and clustering among 57 genotypes of aerial yam from three distinct agro-ecological zones in Cameroon using multivariate analysis. Thirty nine characters (23 qualitative and 16 quantitative) were used for the study. Significant differences in genetic diversity indices were found. Accessions from the bimodal humid forest zone (Na = 2.08, He = 0.27) showed significantly lower diversity compared to both western highland (Na = 2.30, He = 0.34) and humid monomodal forest zones (Na = 2.57, He = 0.32). Means values of most quantitative traits also showed significant differences between agro-ecological zones. Batingla-3 and Bawouwoua-1 had important bulbil yield, reaching 3500 g / plant. Significant associations were found between many traits. The use of the Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic Mean allowed the distribution of the 57 genotypes into six distinct clusters with the clustering pattern not showing any parallelism with location sites or agro-ecological zones. Mahalanobis D2 statistics revealed the highest inter-cluster distance between cluster II and VI. Accessions of these clusters are potential parents for future breeding programs. This study showed that aerial yam from Cameroon has an enormous wealth of traits variation, indicating huge potential for its genetic improvement through selection and hybridization.

After the collapse of Fundão Dam in Mariana‐MG, Brazil, the discharge of iron ore mining waste into the Doce River watershed negatively impacted the landscape. Monitoring the composition and species richness of soil microbiota may be useful bioindicators of ecosystem recovery. This study aimed to compare soil chemical properties, total fungal species, and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) in sites unaffected and affected by mining tailings in the first 3 years after the collapse of Fundão Dam. Soil and root samples were collected in dry and rainy seasons over 3 years in unaffected (adjacent forest and pasture) and affected areas (REC1, REC2, and PASTrec) by mine tailings. Changes in soil chemical properties over the sampling period were measured by routine chemical analyses. Total fungi in the soil was determined by high‐throughput sequencing. AMF community was evaluated using spore number, root colonization, and denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis. Affected sites had higher ranges of pH and lower soil organic matter than unaffected sites. Revegetation had a positive effect on soil fungal community. Increased similarity in AMF DGGE analysis was observed in the two sampling sites over time. A high similarity of total fungi and AMF was observed between REC and pasture areas, suggesting that revegetation strategy employed may be heading towards a pasture condition. Thus, post‐disturbance analysis of this study was important to evaluate of ecosystem recovery affected by the rupture of iron ore mining dam and demonstrated that the soil microbiota was a sensitive bioindicator in this long path of ecosystem recovery. Even though pollen and seed dispersals are some of the important factors that determine tree species survival across landscapes, gene dispersal data of important tropical dryland tree species such as Acacia senegal that are undergoing various population disturbances remain scarce. Understanding patterns of gene dispersal in these ecosystems is important for conservation, landscape restoration and tree improvement. We investigated pollen and seed mediated gene flow in two A. senegal populations of contrasting state (less disturbed and heavily disturbed) using nine microsatellites and 128 genotyping‐by‐sequencing single nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) multilocus genotypes of two growth stages (juvenile and adult trees) and their spatial locations. We performed parentage assignments using likelihood approach and undertook spatial genetic structure (SGS) analyses for the two growth stages through correlation among kinship coefficients and geographical distances between pair of individuals. The SNPs showed higher resolving power and assignment rates than microsatellites; however, a combination of the two marker‐types improved the assignment rate and provided robust parentage assessments. We found evidence of long‐distance (up to 210 m) pollination events for both populations; however, the majority of seed dispersal was found closer to the putative maternal parent. On average, parentage analysis showed high amounts of pollen (40%) and seed (20%) immigration in both populations. Significant positive SGS was found only for the adult cohorts in the less disturbed population for distance classes 20 and 40 m, indicating historical short‐distance seed dispersals. Our results suggest long‐distance gene flow within the species and we recommend conservation of remnant and isolated populations or individual trees to promote genetic connectivity. High levels of trace metals such as copper (Cu) can affect water quality and induce toxic effects on living organisms in aquatic ecosystems. This research assesses the potential capacity for Cu phytofiltration by three emergent macrophytes from Cu-contaminated sediments and water containing five concentrations of Cu (0, 50, 100, 150, and 200 µM). We conducted a greenhouse study using semi-hydroponic and hydroponic experimental conditions to simulate a natural wetland system. We selected three plant types that were collected in Quebec (Canada): native Typha latifolia, and native and, exotic Phragmites australis. Under semi-hydroponic, the responses indicated an almost 3-fold higher mean root Cu-accumulation from Cu-0 to Cu-Sediment (80.3–226.1 mg kg−1) and an 8.6-fold increase (122.2–1045.5 mg kg−1) for Cu-0 to Cu-200 µM under hydroponic conditions, resulting in Cu translocation < 1 and BCF >1 under both conditions. We found an inverse correlation between increasing doses of Cu with mean aboveground and belowground biomass together with height, and root length of selected plants under hydroponic conditions. Our results indicate that these wetland macrophytes could be useful in heavy-metal removal from Cu-contaminated sediments and Cu-enriched water. Studies in wetland phytoremediation have focus on either contaminated soil or water. This research highlights the comparison of three emergent macrophytes in removing copper from both soil (a simulated riparian wetland) and water (floating treatment wetland). This study compares the phytoextraction and rhizofiltration capacity of Typha latifolia, with native versus exotic Phragmites australis with a translocation factor for Cu < 1 and bioconcentration factor > 1 in the Cu-Sediment and Cu-enriched water.
