Abstract

An overview of the family Leucospidae (Hymenoptera, Chalcidoidea) is provided for the leucospid fauna of the Arabian Peninsula. Two genera containing four species are identified based on morphometrics and colour patterns. One species, Leucospis ayezae Usman, Anwar & Ahmad, sp. nov., is described. Leucospis elegans Klug had been previously recorded from Arabia Felix (= Yemen) and is recorded here for the first time from Saudi Arabia. The status of Leucospis aff. namibica from Yemen has been clarified, and this species is placed here in the genus Micrapion Kriechbaumer as M. clavaforme Steffan. An updated key and a map showing the distribution of the family Leucospidae in the Arabian Peninsula is provided. The occurrence and color morphs of all leucospid species that have been recorded so far from the region are briefly discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Animals as model organisms, the silent sentinels, stand watch over the environmental health of the world. These are non-human animal species which can be used to understand specific biological processes and to obtain informations which can provide an insight into working of other organisms. Among the model organisms, the zebrafish (Danio rerio) is one of the best leading models to study developmental biology, cancer, toxicology, drug discovery, and molecular genetics. In addition, the zebrafish is increasingly used as a genetic model organism for aquaculture species and in toxicogenomics and also to generate zebrafish disease models for application in human biomedicines. This tiny fish is a versatile model organism for many fields of research because of its easy maintenance, breeding, and transparent body during early development.

Abstract

The lepidopteron leafminers are considered as serious pests of economic importance world widely. In rearing of lepidopteran leafminers viz., Acrocer-cops phaeospora Meyr. and Cosmopterix phaeogas-tra (Meyr.) and Cameraria virgulata (Meyr.) (Lepi-doptera: Gracillariidae) from various host plants in northern India; three species of parasitoids viz., Bra-con acrocercophagus Ahmad and Pandey, sp. nov., Brocon cosmopteryx Ahmad and Pandey, sp. nov., and Bracon virgulatae Ahmad and Pandey, sp. nov., (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) were observed. All three species are described as new to science and data on habitat, brief diagnoses and host records for all parasitoids species are provided.
