Abstract

With the increase in laser power and finesse of optical cavities over the last decade, laboratory-size Compton sources are very promising. These sources produce X-rays through interactions between relativistic electrons and laser photons and, in term of brightness, fall between large synchrotron facilities and classical laboratory X-ray sources. The ThomX source is the French project in this field. This article first presents a state of the art of high-intensity Compton sources, then the ThomX source is briefly described, and the first results are detailed, in particular the production of the first X-rays, the acquisition of the first spectrum and the first image of the beam. Finally, the next objectives are discussed.

Abstract

ThomX is a new generation Compact Compton Source. It is currently commissioned by and at the IJCLab (Laboratoire de physique des 2 infinis - Irène Joliot-Curie (UMR9012)) at Orsay. The first beam is expected at the begining of 2021. The aim of ThomX is to demonstrate the characteristics of an intense and Compact (lab-size) X-ray source based on Compton Scattering. The performances are mostly driven by the laser optical system which is above the state of the art of stored laser power. Proof of principle of various X-ray techniques will be performed thanks to the versatile ThomX beamline. Firstly, this article presents the machine description. Secondly, the issues and limits of the laser system are discussed. Then, the ThomX beamline is described and the machine status conclude the ThomX presentation. Finally, the expected performances for the next years and the possible experiments that can be made with this new machine are detailed.

Abstract

Hepatic steatosis is a frequent finding in computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Chemotherapy is a predisposing factor for both fatty liver infiltration and hemosiderosis. Unusual appearance and behavior of multiple focal nodular fatty infiltration is rare to encounter and when associated with history of malignancy and/or infection presents a dilemma that a confident diagnosis might not be rendered by MRI thus a diagnostic biopsy would be needed to resolve the uncertainty in diagnosis. We present a patient with second relapse of acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) who developed fungal pulmonary infection while receiving salvage chemotherapy. Progressive target-shaped focal liver lesions which demonstrated characteristic fatty signal intensity on MRI were seen along with features of hemosiderosis of the liver parenchyma. Target and non-target liver tru-cut biopsies had to be performed to reach the final diagnosis of focal fatty infiltration and to rule out the differential diagnosis of liver abscesses and leukemia infiltration.

Abstract

Current developments relating to integrating information and communication technologies (ICT) in learning lead us to wonder about the positive impact that pedagogical video can have on e-learning devices mediating between teacher and learner. Determining the concepts of mediatization and mediation constitutes one of the essential bases of any pedagogical engineering of mediated videos to ensure better transmission of knowledge. To articulate the two concepts of mediation and mediatization, designers, teachers, and trainers must not only mediate the contents of the video but also the pedagogical relation, the design and production process, without forgetting the scenarization phase of the pedagogical videos, which occupy an important place in the pedagogical engineering. In our article, after giving an overview of the two concepts, mediation, and mediatization, we define the pedagogical video, the use of the pedagogical video, and the forms of the pedagogical video. Then, we identify the mediatization tools of pedagogical videos and their mediatization articulation according to previous studies.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to determine the power of two algerian mineral materials (kaolin and diatomite ) ,in order to remove an cationic dye(methylene blue )from aqueous solution ,materials have been characterized by different techniques .experiments have been studied on bath mode ,the influence of some parameters had been studied , such as , contact time ,the pH of solution and initial concentration .kinetics show that adsorption of methylene blue on to diatomite is faster than processus of adsorption on to kaoln ,and can be demonstrated by the pseudo-second –order model. Abstract

International audience; ThomX est un projet de source de lumière compacte où l’effet Compton est utilisé pour produire des rayons X de haute énergie (40–90keV) avec un flux moyen de 1011–1013 ph/s. La machine est composée d’un injecteur à électrons (50-70 MeV) et d’un anneau de stockage. Afin de limiter la taille de telles machines performantes il est nécessaire d’accroître les gradients d’accélération dans les structures plus compactes. Actuellement on réalise de façon courante en bande S (3GHz) des gradients accélérateurs de l’ordre de 20 MV/m, mais on envisage qu’un tel seuil puisse être plus élevé avec une probabilité de claquage relativement faible. Dans le cadre du projet THOMX, LAL s’est engagé en collaboration avec PMB-ALCEN à développer une section accélératrice compacte en cuivre à fort gradient en bande S pour porter les faisceaux de ThomX de 50 MeV à 70 MeV. La section en question est une structure périodique à Iris, à onde progressive directe, fonctionnant en mode 2π/3, à champ quasi-constant et à vitesse de phase c. Des prototypes ont été conçus et seront fabriqués prochainement et dont l’objectif de valider la géométrie, les choix technologiques et les procédés de fabrication.
