Purpose: With increasing the usage of myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) for the diagnosis of ischemic heart disease, we aimed to evaluate the side effects of low-dose radiation induced by this technique on blood elements, especially proteins and liver function factors. Materials and Methods: 40 eligible patients (Mean age: 54.62±10.35, 22 female and 18 male), who had referred to the nuclear medicine department for MPI from May till August 2014, were enrolled in the study. A blood sample was taken from each patient just before and 24 hours after the injection of 740Mbq of Tecnetium-99m Methoxy isobutyl isonitrile (99mTc-MIBI) in the rest phase of the MPI in a reference medical laboratory; blood tests included total protein (TP), albumin (Alb), globulin (Glo), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine transaminase(ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), direct bilirubin (D.Bili), total bilirubin (T.Bili),serum iron (SI), total iron bounding capacity (TIBC), Albumin globulin ratioA/G ratio), and complete blood count (CBC). Results: Injection of 740Mbq99mTc-MIBI caused a significant increase in serum levels of AST (p= 0.001), ALT (p= 0.001), SI(p= 0.030), TIBC (p= 0.003) and A/G Ratio (p= 0.020). However, following radiotracer injection, a significant decrease was noted in the serum levels of TP (p= 0.002), Alb (p= 0.014), Glo(p= 0.002), ALP(p= 0.001), D.Bili (p= 0.003) and T.Bili(p= 0.000). Conclusion: Due to increased usage of MPI, our data highlights the importance of monitoring the clinical and paraclinical effects of the procedure on vital organs and physiological pathways to reduce their adverse effects.

Ischemic heart disease (IHD) is a common and potentially lethal cardiovascular disorder. Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is a standard procedure for treating IHD. This study aims to introduce a novel technique for proximal anastomoses in CABG. This clinical trial studied 29 cases and 29 matched controls. Data were gathered from June 2014 to June 2023. Regarding proximal anastomoses, the sequential partial aortic clamp was performed in cases, and the partial aortic clamp was done for controls. In the sequential partial aortic clamp technique, a relatively small or medium vascular clamp was used instead of one clamp for all proximal anastomoses, which closed a small amount of the aortic wall at each stage. At each stage, only one hole in the aortic wall and only one anastomosis between the conduit and the aorta was performed. After the end of each anastomosis, the clamp was opened and placed on another part of the aorta, and the next anastomosis was performed. CK-MB (p < 0.001, Eta Squared = 0.255) level was significantly lower in cases that underwent sequential partial ascending aorta clamping. However, cTnI level was not statistically different among cases and controls(p = 0.05). Of all patients, 3 (10.3%) cases and 12 (41.4%) controls developed with postoperative atrial fibrillation (p = 0.007). The sequential partial aortic clamp technique leads to less myocardial injury than the partial aortic clamp technique. Relational cognition-the ability to infer relationships that generalize to novel combinations of objects-is fundamental to human and animal intelligence. Despite this importance, it remains unclear how relational cognition is implemented in the brain due in part to a lack of hypotheses and predictions at the levels of collective neural activity and behavior. Here we discovered, analyzed, and experimentally tested neural networks (NNs) that perform transitive inference (TI), a classic relational task (if A > B and B > C, then A > C). We found NNs that (i) generalized perfectly, despite lacking overt transitive structure prior to training, (ii) generalized when the task required working memory (WM), a capacity thought to be essential to inference in the brain, (iii) emergently expressed behaviors long observed in living subjects, in addition to a novel order-dependent behavior, and (iv) expressed different task solutions yielding alternative behavioral and neural predictions. Further, in a large-scale experiment, we found that human subjects performing WM-based TI showed behavior inconsistent with a class of NNs that characteristically expressed an intuitive task solution. The effect of multipass friction stir processing (FSP) on the microstructure and mechanical properties of an AlSi10Mg alloy produced by laser-powder bed fusion was investigated. FSP was performed at a rotational speed of 950 rpm and traverse speed of 85 mm/min. The results indicated that FSP destroyed the coarse grain structure in the as-built AlSi10Mg by generating fine and equiaxed grain structures with shear texture components of A1*(111)[1¯1¯2] and A2*(111)[112¯], in addition to causing fragmentation and refinement of the Si networks. FSP reduced the tensile strength slightly but significantly improved ductility. One-pass FSP exhibited superior mechanical properties compared with the two- and three-pass scenarios. The higher strength of the one-pass sample was attributed to the strengthening mechanisms induced by the Si particles, which were grown by repeated FSP. The higher ductility of the one-pass sample was explained using the kernel and grain average misorientations. Furthermore, the post-FSP microstructural evolution and fracture behavior of the samples were discussed.

Neural circuits exhibit complex activity patterns, both spontaneously and evoked by external stimuli. Information encoding and learning in neural circuits depend on how well time-varying stimuli can control spontaneous network activity. We show that in firing-rate networks in the balanced state, external control of recurrent dynamics, i.e., the suppression of internally-generated chaotic variability, strongly depends on correlations in the input. A distinctive feature of balanced networks is that, because common external input is dynamically canceled by recurrent feedback, it is far more difficult to suppress chaos with common input into each neuron than through independent input. To study this phenomenon, we develop a non-stationary dynamic mean-field theory for driven networks. The theory explains how the activity statistics and the largest Lyapunov exponent depend on the frequency and amplitude of the input, recurrent coupling strength, and network size, for both common and independent input. Cortical circuits generate excitatory currents that must be cancelled by strong inhibition to assure stability. The resulting excitatory-inhibitory (E-I) balance can generate spontaneous irregular activity but, in standard balanced E-I models, this requires that an extremely strong feedforward bias current be included along with the recurrent excitation and inhibition. The absence of experimental evidence for such large bias currents inspired us to examine an alternative regime that exhibits asynchronous activity without requiring unrealistically large feedforward input. In these networks, irregular spontaneous activity is supported by a continually changing sparse set of neurons. To support this activity, synaptic strengths must be drawn from high-variance distributions. Unlike standard balanced networks, these sparse balance networks exhibit robust nonlinear responses to uniform inputs and non-Gaussian input statistics. Interestingly, the speed, not the size, of synaptic fluctuations dictates the degree of sparsity in the model. We report a mass without neurologic findings and moderate pain in a 33-year-old male's wrist at the 3 rd zone of the ulnar nerve due to schwannoma that was excised successfully, and the patient was free of symptoms. We further discuss the prevalence and management of this lesion.

Microbial fuel cell (MFC) is a green technology that converts the stored chemical energy of organic matter to electricity; therefore, it can be used for wastewater purification and energy production simultaneously. In this study, three kinds of dairy products, including milk, cheese water, and yogurt water, were mixed with Acid orange 7 (AO7) as the model wastewater and used as the anolyte of an MFC. The capability of the system in energy production and dye removal was also investigated. The FESEM images were used to investigate the biofilms attachment to the anodes. Moreover, the polarization curves, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry (CV), voltage-time profiles, and coulombic efficiency were used to evaluate the electrochemical activity of the MFCs. Based on the CV results, the biofilm formation significantly improved the electrochemical activity of the electrodes. Maximum power density, voltage, and coulombic efficiency were obtained as 44.05 mW.m -2 , 332.4 mV, and 1.76%, respectively, for cheese water + AO7 anolyte, but the milk + AO7 MFC produced a stable voltage for a long time and its performance was similar to the cheese water + AO7 anolyte. Maximum COD removal and decolorization efficiencies were obtained equal to 84.57 and 92.18% for yogurt water + AO7 and cheese water + AO7 anolytes, respectively.

The supplementary motor area (SMA) is believed to contribute to higher order aspects of motor control. We considered a key higher order role: tracking progress throughout an action. We propose that doing so requires population activity to display low "trajectory divergence": situations with different future motor outputs should be distinct, even when present motor output is identical. We examined neural activity in SMA and primary motor cortex (M1) as monkeys cycled various distances through a virtual environment. SMA exhibited multiple response features that were absent in M1. At the single-neuron level, these included ramping firing rates and cycle-specific responses. At the population level, they included a helical population-trajectory geometry with shifts in the occupied subspace as movement unfolded. These diverse features all served to reduce trajectory divergence, which was much lower in SMA versus M1. In this study, the photocatalytic regeneration by ZnO was employed for the regeneration of the granular activated carbon (GAC) which was saturated with the reactive red 43. The ultrasound was applied as a pretreatment step due to the cleanup of the adsorbent surface and providing a higher surface area and adsorption capacity. According to the nitrogen gas adsorption-desorption results, the ultrasound pretreated-GAC had the highest surface area and the total pore volume. The SEM and XRD analyses confirmed the immobilization of ZnO nanoparticles on the GAC. Response surface methodology (RSM) was used to model and optimize the preparation of the granular activated carbon/ZnO nanocomposite. The sonication time, pH, GAC/ZnO ratio, and calcination temperature were used as four effective parameters on nanocomposite preparation. Optimum amounts of pH, GAC/ZnO ratio, calcination temperature, and sonication time were found to be equal to 4, 5, 300 °C, 210 min, respectively; in these conditions, 83.98% of the capacity of the exhausted granular activated carbon was regenerated. ANOVA results, high R 2 , R 2 -adj values, and also normal and random distribution of residuals showed that application of RSM for the modeling and optimizing the preparation step of GAC/ZnO nanocomposite was successful., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier B.V. A monolayer 2D capping layer with high Young's modulus is shown to be able to effectively suppress the dewetting of underlying thin films of small organic semiconductor molecule, polymer, and polycrystalline metal, respectively. To verify the universality of this capping layer approach, the dewetting experiments are performed for single-layer graphene transferred onto polystyrene (PS), semiconducting thienoazacoronene (EH-TAC), gold, and also MoS 2 on PS. Thermodynamic modeling indicates that the exceptionally high Young's modulus and surface conformity of 2D capping layers such as graphene and MoS 2 substantially suppress surface fluctuations and thus dewetting. As long as the uncovered area is smaller than the fluctuation wavelength of the thin film in a dewetting process via spinodal decomposition, the dewetting should be suppressed. The 2D monolayer-capping approach opens up exciting new possibilities to enhance the thermal stability and expands the processing parameters for thin film materials without significantly altering their physical properties., (© 2017 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. The ability to understand and control the electronic properties of individual molecules in a device environment is crucial for developing future technologies at the nanometre scale and below. Achieving this, however, requires the creation of three-terminal devices that allow single molecules to be both gated and imaged at the atomic scale. We have accomplished this by integrating a graphene field effect transistor with a scanning tunnelling microscope, thus allowing gate-controlled charging and spectroscopic interrogation of individual tetrafluoro-tetracyanoquinodimethane molecules. We observe a non-rigid shift in the molecule's lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energy (relative to the Dirac point) as a function of gate voltage due to graphene polarization effects. Our results show that electron-electron interactions play an important role in how molecular energy levels align to the graphene Dirac point, and may significantly influence charge transport through individual molecules incorporated in graphene-based nanodevices.
