Previous research has shown that encountering a word in a sentential context that biases its interpretation towards a subordinate meaning aspect leads to that meaning subsequently being more easily accessible (e.g., Curtis et al., 2022). This finding, referred to as word-meaning priming, illustrates the malleability of word meanings, and research within this paradigm has shed some light on the time course and constraints on this type of lexical-semantic updating (e.g., Gaskell et al., 2019; Gilbert et al., 2021; Rodd et al., 2013, 2016). However, the exact mechanism underpinning this flexibility remains contested. One explanation, called the episodic context account (Gaskell et al., 2019; Curtis et al., 2022; Mak et al., 2022), suggests that word-meaning priming is supported by general episodic memory processes, whereby word meanings are initially bound to the context they are encountered in by the hippocampus. Crucially, if word-meaning priming is supported by episodic memory processes, then the strength of word-meaning priming effects should be affected by factors that have previously been shown to affect learning in (other) episodic memory paradigms (e.g., Greve et al., 2018; Quent et al., 2022). One important finding in this regard (replicated across several different paradigms, e.g., van Kesteren et al., 2013; Greve et al., 2018; Quent et al., 2022) is that the expectedness of a stimulus influences the extent to which participants are able to remember that input (see Quent et al., 2021 for a recent review). The main aim of the present study is to test whether the expectedness of a stimulus has an influence on the strength of the word-meaning priming effect, as would be predicted if word-meaning priming is supported by general episodic memory processes (see the ‘study design’ section for details of the experimental design). In the present experiment, participants will be exposed to sentences containing a target word whose interpretation is biased towards a specific aspect of its meaning by the preceding sentential context (i.e., the word-meaning priming manipulation). As stated above, if word-meaning priming is affected by similar factors as have been shown to affect memory in (other) episodic memory paradigms, then the strength of the word-meaning priming effect should be affected by the relative expectedness of the target word. Therefore, the central question is whether expectedness has an impact on word-meaning priming. A subsidiary aim is to test the prediction derived from the models of episodic memory cited above that memory for incidental aspects of the experiment will be better if these are processed in close temporal proximity to unexpected input (compared to expected or neutral input). Cued recall and 2AFC tests probing memory for incidental aspects of the main experiment will address this hypothesis (see ‘incidental memory test’ in the ‘study design’ section below).

Livestream-Shopping (LSS) – der Trend aus China – erobert nach den USA nun auch Europa. Durch die Echtzeitinteraktion bringt LSS das digitale Einkaufserlebnis auf eine neue Ebene – weg vom starren, einseitigen Onlinekauf hin zu einem interaktiven, in Echtzeit planbaren, sozialen und digitalen Einkaufserlebnis. Dieser neue Vertriebskanal wird in der Schweiz derzeit jedoch wenig bis gar nicht genutzt, obwohl er im asiatischen und amerikanischen Raum grosse Erfolge verzeichnet. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurde eine Potentialanalyse von Livestream-Shopping für Schweizer Onlinehandler durchgeführt. Der Fokus lag auf der Relevanz von LSS, auf dessen Erfolgsfaktoren, Nutzen und Potential, aber auch auf den Hindernissen, Risiken und der Marktentwicklung dieses neuen Vertriebskanals. Zusätzlich wurde auf die Sortiments- und Contentgestaltung eingegangen, die eine tragende Rolle spielen, damit LSS erfolgreich eingeführt und umgesetzt werden kann. Neben einer tiefgehenden Desk Research wurde für die Beantwortung der Forschungsfrage ein explorativer Mixed-Method-Ansatz gewählt, da ein unbekanntes Phänomen und neue Zusammenhange untersucht werden sollten. Im ersten Schritt wurde eine Onlinehandler- Befragung mithilfe eines Online-Fragebogens durchgeführt und zusätzlich wurden Experten bezüglich des Untersuchungsgegenstandes und zur Vertiefung der Ergebnisse aus der Onlineumfrage interviewt. Die explorative Analyse hat ergeben, dass nur 10 % der Schweizer Onlinehandler sich mit LSS beschäftigen und momentan wenig bis gar kein Potential von LSS sehen, wobei die zwei meistgenannten Grunde dafür die fehlenden Ressourcen sowie das fehlende Wissen sind. Die Herausforderungen überwiegen momentan im Vergleich zum Nutzen. Anders sehen dies die Experten und die Unternehmen, die LSS bereits im Einsatz haben – Sie berichten positiv und halten LSS für erfolgsversprechend. Die wichtigsten Empfehlungen bezüglich Contenterstellung waren eine gute Content-Qualität, Frequenz, produktspezifische Themen, sowie der Auftritt der Moderatoren. Bezüglich der Sortimentsgestaltung empfiehlt sich ein Mix aus Produkten, welche sich ergänzen und eine Preisspanne von günstigen bis mittelpreisigen Produkten. Zusätzlich werden Rabattaktionen von den Zuschauern als Anreiz verlangt. Wie bei allen Trends, braucht es Zeit, bis sich diese etablieren. Im Schweizer Markt besteht grosses Potential für Onlinehandler mit grosser Reichweite, eine First-Mover-Rolle einzunehmen und den Trend in der Schweiz zu etablieren. Denn sie haben nicht nur einen neuen Verkaufskanal, sondern können sich durch diesen digitalen Service von ähnlichen Onlinehandlern differenzieren, indem sie Beratung, Einkaufen, Interaktion und Unterhaltung in einem anbieten.

Dissertação de mestrado em Direito da União Europeia, A composição teórica do presente trabalho tem por objetivo geral aprofundar os estudos acerca da democracia da União Europeia, tendo como pano de fundo o atual contexto de crise da democracia liberal observado no mundo ocidental. Busca-se, inicialmente, confirmar o diagnóstico de crise por que passam as democracias liberais no mundo hoje e identificar suas principais causas, analisando-se especialmente os casos mais preocupantes no cenário da UE para compreender como se deram as guinadas autoritárias na Hungria e na Polônia, que vêm desafiando as instituições da UE e colocando em xeque muitos dos fundamentos que baseiam a própria estrutura jurídico-política da União. Faz-se ainda neste tópico uma reflexão sobre o papel do Estado nacional no atual contexto de transformações decorrentes dos processos de globalização, verificando-se a urgência do desenvolvimento da democracia neste cenário pós-Estatal, ponto em que ganha relevância a experiência pioneira da UE como ordem política supranacional. Na sequência, volta-se para temas mais específicos e atuais da democracia na UE visando analisar o estágio de desenvolvimento em que se encontram a democracia e a cidadania na União, ao mesmo tempo em que se lança um debate sobre os argumentos que gravitam em torno do alegado déficit democrático europeu, especialmente diante do cenário de crise da democracia liberal que se apresenta. A seguir, faz-se ainda uma análise detalhada sobre o inovador instrumento de democracia participativa, incorporado no ordenamento jurídico da UE a partir do Tratado de Lisboa, a Iniciativa de Cidadania Europeia, em que se busca demonstrar o papel relevante que pode desempenhar para o fomento da almejada cidadania política europeia. Por fim, dá-se enfoque à batalha pela defesa do Estado de direito que vem sendo travada na UE, especialmente diante das ameaças à ordem jurídica da União perpetradas pelos governos de Hungria e Polônia. Analisa-se, inicialmente, de que forma essa questão tem sido enfrentada no âmbito jurídico e político das instituições da União, e encerra-se com uma reflexão acerca da encruzilhada em que se encontra a UE, tendo em conta todo o contexto de crise que envolve o mundo hoje e que abala significativamente a ordem jurídico-política em que se fundamenta a integração europeia. A conclusão é de que o momento desafiador que se apresenta requer um aprofundamento e a plena efetivação da face política do projeto europeu, de forma que possibilite definitivamente um maior envolvimento dos cidadãos nos processos de tomada de decisões., The theoretical composition of this study has as general objective to deepen the studies on democracy of the European Union against the background of the current crisis context of liberal democracy observed in the Western world. It seeks, initially, to confirm the diagnosis of crisis that liberal democracies are going through and to identify their main causes, looking especially at the most worrying cases in the EU scenario to understand the authoritarian yaws in Hungary and Poland that have been challenging the EU institutions. There is also a reflection on the role of the national state in the current context of transformations resulting from the processes of globalization, where we can verify the urgency of the development of democracy in this post-State scenario, a point where the pioneer experience of the EU as a supranational political order is gaining relevance. Next, the study turns to more specific and current themes of democracy in the EU in which seeking to analyse the stage of development in which democracy and citizenship are found in the Union, while launching a debate on the arguments that gravitate around the alleged European democratic deficit, especially in the face of the crisis scenario of liberal democracy that presents itself. At this point, a detailed analysis is also made of the innovative instrument of participatory democracy incorporated into the EU legal system from the Treaty of Lisbon, the European Citizens Initiative, which seeks to demonstrate the relevant role it can play in fostering the desired European political citizenship. Finally, the battle for the defence of the rule of law that has been fought in the EU is focused, especially in the face of threats to the EU legal order perpetrated by the governments of Hungary and Poland. It is initially examined how this issue has been tackled in the legal and political context of the EU institutions and ends with a reflection on the crossroads at which the EU is currently located, taking into account the whole context of crisis that surrounds the world today and which significantly shakes the legal-political order on which European integration is based. The conclusion is that the challenging moment that presents itself requires a deepening and full implementation of the political face of the European project, that it definitely allows greater involvement of citizens in decision-making processes.

In der im 18. Jahrhundert erschienenen französischen Encyclopédie versammelt sich das Wissen der Zeit und mit ihm auch eine Haltung und Perspektive, von der später Autoren schreiben werden, dass sie jenes reformerische Klima mit geprägt hat, das in die Revolution von 1789 mündete. Die Grenzen der Verbreitung des Wissens wurden durch die Encyclopédie deutlich verschoben, denn sie umfasste das Wissen und die progressive Perspektive des Zeitgeistes, die mit ihrer Hilfe zugänglich gemacht werden konnte. In diesem Sinne ist die Encyclopédie als praktizierte Aufklärung zu sehen. Welche Rolle das Werk für nachfolgende erwachsenenpädagogische Entwicklungen spielte und inwiefern gesagt werden kann, dass die Encyclopédie und die Erwachsenenbildung gemeinsame Schnittmengen aufweisen, wird Gegenstand dieser Arbeit sein. Die Ausgangsfragestellung bezieht sich somit auf die Berührungspunkte zwischen der Encyclopédie und der Erwachsenenbildung. Um dies zu beantworten, werden zwei konkretisierende Fragestellungen formuliert. Es wird betrachtet, inwiefern im weiteren Verlauf der Erwachsenenbildung in Frankreich Aspekte des enzyklopädischen Wirkens beobachtet werden können: Welche Rolle spielte die Encyclopédie für die Entwicklung und Ausgestaltung der Erwachsenenbildung in Frankreich? An diese eher auf die Entwicklung der Erwachsenenbildung bezogene Betrachtungsweise schließt sich eine stärker systematische Perspektive an. Hier steht mit Blick auf die Erwachsenenbildung in Deutschland die Frage nach möglichen inhaltlich-systematischen Parallelen zwischen der Encyclopédie und der Erwachsenenbildung im Zentrum. Aus der Kombination beider in den Fragestellungen implizierten Perspektiven ergibt sich ein ertragreiches Bild möglicher Bezüge zwischen der Encyclopédie und der Erwachsenenbildung. Wo die eher verlaufsbezogene Fragestellung zur weiteren Entwicklung der Erwachsenenbildung in Frankreich den Blick auf die Identifizierung relevanter Kontinuitätslinien in erwachsenenpädagogischen Konzepten lenkt, ermöglicht der systematische Fokus auf Kategorien der Erwachsenenbildung eine Anreicherung der Ergebnisse mit Hilfe eines vertieften Einblickes in die Grundannahmen der Erwachsenenbildung.
