KENOSHA [...], This article suggests that the moment may be right to rethink the societal need for sex-separated bathrooms, and to consider the harmful ways in which they perpetuate a problematic gender binary. Architectural innovations for public restroom design, inspired by the need to increase social distancing during the pandemic, align well with designs that have already been proposed for gender-inclusive bathrooms. At the same time, recent federal cases have confronted the tortured logic of those insisting on policing the gender binaty that sex-separated bathrooms represent. The responses in these decisions, which uphold the rights of transgender students to have access to the bathrooms that align with their gender identity, are shown to undermine the logic of the gender binary in general and the rationale for sex-separated facilities in particular.

This article explores the use of speech act theory to understand the meaning and effect of the gender identity backlash. It discusses how language, including legal language, can create change and alter human relations through speech acts. The article examines the backlash against transgender rights that occurred after the 2020 Bostock v. Clayton County Supreme Court decision, focusing on areas such as sports participation, access to appropriate care, and the right to be addressed appropriately. By applying speech act theory to legislative acts and judicial opinions, the article aims to reveal the performative effects of language and potentially undermine the effectiveness of the backlash. Data analysis is a major part of business analytics (BA), which refers to the skills, methods, and technologies that enable managers to make swift, quality decisions based on large amounts of data. BA has become a major component of Information Systems (IS) courses all over the world. The challenge for IS educators is to teach data analysis--the foundational BA concepts--to early years undergraduate students who commonly have an aversion to statistics as well as poor problem-solving skills. This article describes the development and evaluation of a learning intervention, Interactive Visual Narratives (IVN), which is informed by previous research into the efficacy of interaction, visualization, and narratives across a variety of learning contexts. The results suggest that a combination of interactive visualizations and narratives can improve the acquisition of data analysis knowledge, facilitate essential skills in problem analysis and the application of BA solutions, and enhance student engagement. These findings provide useful insights for improving students' learning outcomes and engagement.

We report on a federal initiative to develop a CAHPS[R] (The Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) survey to measure residents' experiences with quality-of-care and quality-of- life in nursing homes (known as NHCAHPS). We focus on how we created and tested questions for inclusion in the instrument and tested a possible cognitive screener to determine which residents could participate in a NHCAHPS interview. The major lessons learned were: (1) In contrast to other CAHPS surveys, ratings were more useful than reports because of the difficulty that residents had with summarizing over time and people; (2) consistent with other CAHPS surveys, the 0 to 10 response scale appeared to work well with nursing home residents for many of the quality-of-care questions; however, a different response scale was needed for many of the quality-of-life items; and (3) in contrast with typical survey methodology and other CAHPS surveys where explicit time reference periods are used, a non-specific present reference period in questions seemed to work best. doi: 10.1300/J031v19n02_04 KEYWORDS. The effects of liquid C[O.sub.2] injection on the viability of Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts were evaluated. A laboratory study was designed to test the effects of saturated C[O.sub.2], freeze-thaw cycles and different freezing protocols on C. parvum oocysts in aquifer material. Oocysts were exposed to a saturated solution of C[O.sub.2] at room temperature 1-, 4-, 8-, and 12-h intervals and their viability was compared with controls. One- and three-cycle freeze-thaw experiments on oocyst survival were conducted. Inactivation of oocysts was assessed for: (1) rapid freezing and rapid thawing and (2) gradual freezing and rapid thawing. Exposure to 1 atm of C[O.sub.2] in water at room temperature had a negligible effect on oocyst viability. Average oocyst viability after the one- and three-cycle freeze-thaw experiments was 24.7 and 2.7%. repsectively. The average oocyst viability associated with the rapid freeze-thaw and gradual freeze-thaw experiments was 11.3 and 26.2%, respectively. Freezing associated with injection of liquid C[O.sub.2] into aquifers would be the factor inactivating oocysts: to cause a 3-log decrease in oocyst viability multiple injections may be required.
