3-Aminoquinazolinone-phosphine proligands (5a-e) and their Ru(II) complexes (6a-e) were prepared and characterized by NMR (H-1, C-13, P-31{H-1}), FTIR and microanalysis. The 3-aminoquinazolinone-phosphine ligands were found to coordinate with the Ru(II) center via their phosphorus and nitrogen atoms. The Ru(II) complexes were applied as catalysts for the hydrogenation and transfer hydrogenation of prochiral ketones. The results showed that these complexes are efficient transfer hydrogenation catalysts.

Three iminophosphine ligands having soft phosphorus and hard nitrogen atoms and their Pd(II) complexes were synthesized and characterized using H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, P-31 NMR and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic techniques. Also, electrochemical properties of the iminophosphines and their Pd(II) complexes were investigated in acetonitrile-tetrabutylammonium perchlorate solution with cyclic and square wave voltammetry techniques. All Pd(II) complexes were evaluated as catalysts for carbonylative cross-coupling reactions of aryl iodides with phenylboronic acid. The Suzuki carbonylation of aryl iodides at 80 degrees C under balloon pressure of carbon monoxide in the presence of K2CO3 as a base was examined, and good to high conversions and excellent selectivities were obtained.

Pincer type aminomethylphosphine-Pd(II) complexes supported on multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) have been synthesized and characterized using X-Ray diffraction spectrometry, scanning electron microscopy, thermal analysis, energy dispersive X-Ray, Fourier transform infrared spectrometry, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and ultraviolet-visible spectrometry techniques. The novel complexes were tried as catalysts in Heck C-C coupling reactions. The crystallite size and lattice strain of the MWCNT based compounds were calculated by the Scherrer's equation. The optical parameters of the MWCNT based structures were analyzed and the band gap enhanced from 4.42 to 4.98 eV. Different solvents (toluene, 1,4-diooxane, DMF and NMP) and bases (Et3N, -Na2CO3, NaOAc and K2CO3) were tried at different temperatures (80, 100 and 110 degrees C) in the cross-coupling of bromobenzene with styrene. The optimum yield was found in the presence of K2CO3, 110 degrees C in 1,4-dioxane solvent system.

Schiff bases of 2-(phenylthio)aniline, (C6H5)SC6H4NCR (R=(o-CH3)(C6H5), (o-OCH3)(C6H5) or (o-CF3)(C6H5)), and their palladium complexes (PdLCl2) were synthesized. The compounds were characterized using H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR spectroscopy and micro analysis. Also, electrochemical properties of the ligands and Pd(II) complexes were investigated in dimethylformamide-LiClO4 solution with cyclic and square wave voltammetry techniques. The Pd(II) complexes showed both reversible and quasi-reversible processes in the -1.5 to 0.3V potential range. The synthesized Pd(II) complexes were evaluated as catalysts in Mizoroki-Heck and Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions. Copyright (c) 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Ruthenium complexes [RuCl2L2] were prepared by treating [RuCl2(p-cymene)](2) with structurally similar N-(2-(diphenylphosphino) benzylidene)-3-methylpyridin-2-amine, 4-(2-(diphenylphosphino) benzylideneamino)-3-methylphenol and 4-(2-(2-(diphenylphosphino) benzylideneamino)ethyl) phenol refluxed in toluene. These complexes were used as catalysts for the transfer hydrogenation of acetophenones in 2-propanol and for the direct hydrogenation of styrenes under hydrogen pressure. The results of the catalytic studies provide evidence that these complexes function as excellent catalysts for hydrogenation and transfer hydrogenation. Copyright (C) 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Bentazone (Basagran®) is a commonly used and easily available agricultural herbicide. We report a 41-year-old-man who developed rhabdomyolysis with acute renal failure after bentazone toxicity. Four hours later after oral intake of liquid bentazone for suicidal attempt, the patient admitted to emergency service and his initial renal function tests were in normal range. However on the 15th hour of intake, urine output decreased, and blood urine nitrogen, creatinine and creatinine kinase levels were increased. On the fifth day of hospitalization, creatinine and creatinine kinase levels had turned to normal levels. As a result, bentazone intoxication may cause rhabdomyolysis with acute renal failure. Thus, renal functions must be followed up closely. Key words: Bentazone intoxication; rhabdomyolysis; acute renal failure
