Abstract Although circular RNAs (circRNA) have been demonstrated to modulate tumor initiation and progression, their roles in the proliferation of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are still poorly understood. Based on the analysis of GEO data (GSE12174), hsa-circRNA-0015004 (circ-0015004) was screened and validated in 80 sets of HCC specimens. Subcellular fractionation analysis was designed to determine the cellular location of circ-0015004. Colony formation and cell counting kit-8 were performed to investigate the role of circ-0015004 in HCC. Dual-luciferase reporter gene assays, RNA immunoprecipitation and chromatin immunoprecipitation were employed to verify the interaction among circ-0015004, miR-330-3p and regulator of chromatin condensation 2 (RCC2). The expression level of circ-0015004 was significantly upregulated in HCC cell lines and HCC tissues. HCC patients with higher circ-0015004 levels displayed shorter overall survival, and higher tumor size and TNM stage. Moreover, knockdown of circ-0015004 significantly reduced HCC cell proliferation in vitro and inhibited the growth of HCC in nude mice. Mechanistic studies revealed that circ-0015004 could upregulate the expression of RCC2 by sponging miR-330-3p, thereby promoting HCC cell proliferation. Furthermore, we identified that Ying Yang 1 (YY1) could function as an important regulator of circ-0015004 transcription. This study systematically demonstrated the novel regulatory signaling of circ-0015004/miR-330-3p/RCC2 axis in promoting HCC progression, providing insight into HCC diagnosis and treatment from bench to clinic.

Abstract Background Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is commonly associated with insulin resistance (IR) and dyslipidaemia. Apolipoprotein E (APOE) plays important roles in lipid metabolism. The study aimed to disentangle the multifactorial relationships between IR and APOE based on a large-scale population with OSA. Methods A total of 5,591 participants who underwent polysomnography for OSA diagnosis were finally enrolled. We collected anthropometric, fasting biochemical and polysomnographic data for each participant. Linear regression analysis was performed to evaluate the relationships between APOE, IR, and sleep breathing-related parameters. Logistic regression, restricted cubic spline (RCS) and mediation analyses were used to explore relationships between APOE and IR in patients with OSA. Results Increasing OSA severity was associated with greater obesity, more obvious dyslipidaemia, and higher levels of APOE and IR. Abstract The liver is a major metastatic site (organ) for gastrointestinal cancers (such as colorectal, gastric, and pancreatic cancers) as well as non-gastrointestinal cancers (such as lung, breast, and melanoma cancers). Due to the innate anatomical position of the liver, the apoptosis of T cells in the liver, the unique metabolic regulation of hepatocytes and other potential mechanisms, the liver tends to form an immunosuppressive microenvironment and subsequently form a pre-metastatic niche (PMN), which can promote metastasis and colonization by various tumor cells(TCs). As a result, the critical role of immunoresponse in liver based metastasis has become increasingly appreciated. T cells, a centrally important member of adaptive immune response, play a significant role in liver based metastases and clarifying the different roles of the various T cells subsets is important to guide future clinical treatment. In this review, we first introduce the predisposing factors and related mechanisms of liver metastasis (LM) before introducing the PMN and its transition to LM. Finally, we detail the role of different subsets of T cells in LM and advances in the management of LM in order to identify potential therapeutic targets for patients with LM.

AbstractBackground Angiopoietin-like protein 4 (ANGPTL4) is recognized as a crucial regulator in lipid metabolism. Acetyl-CoA carboxylases (ACACAs) play a role in the β-oxidation of fatty acids. Yet, the functions of ANGPTL4 and ACACA in dyslipidemia of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) remain unclear.Methods This study included 125 male OSA subjects from the Shanghai Sleep Health Study (SSHS) who were matched for age, body mass index (BMI), and lipid profile. Serum ANGPTL4 levels were measured via ELISA. The ANGPTL4 T266M variants of 4455 subjects along with their anthropometric, fasting biochemical, and standard polysomnographic parameters were collected. Linear regression was used to analyze the associations between quantitative traits and ANGPTL4 T266M. Molecular docking and molecular dynamic simulation were employed to compare the effects of the wild-type ANGPTL4 and its T266M mutation on ACACA.Results Serum ANGPTL4 levels significantly decreased with increasing OSA severity (non-OSA: 59.6 ± 17.4 ng/mL, mild OSA: 50.0 ± 17.5 ng/mL, moderate OSA: 46.3 ± 15.5 ng/mL, severe OSA: 19.9 ± 14.3 ng/mL, respectively, p = 6.02 × 10−16). No associations were found between T266M and clinical characteristics. Molecular docking indicated that mutant ANGTPL4 T266M had stronger binding affinity for the ACACA protein, compared with wild-type ANGPTL4. In terms of protein secondary structure, mutant ANGTPL4 T266M demonstrated greater stability than wild-type ANGPTL4.Conclusions Serum ANGTPL4 levels were significantly decreased in OSA patients, particularly among individuals with severe OSA. Although functional ANGTPL4 T266M variants were not associated with lipid levels in OSA, ANGTPL4 T266M could enhance binding affinity for the ACACA protein, potentially regulating lipid metabolism.

In order to better understand the specific substituent effects on the electrochemical oxidation process of β-O-4 bond, a series of methoxyphenyl type β-O-4 dimer model compounds with different localized methoxyl groups, including 2-(2-methoxyphenoxy)-1-phenylethanone, 2-(2-methoxyphenoxy)-1-phenylethanol, 2-(2-methoxyphenoxy)-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)ethanone, 2-(2-methoxyphenoxy)-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)ethanol, 2-(2,6-dimethoxyphenoxy)-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)ethanone, 2-(2,6-dimethoxyphenoxy)-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)ethanol have been selected and their electrochemical properties have been studied experimentally by cyclic voltammetry, and FT-IR spectroelectrochemistry. Combining with electrolysis products distribution analysis and density functional theory calculations, oxidation mechanisms of all six model dimers have been explored. In particular, a total effect from substituents of both para-methoxy (on the aryl ring closing to Cα) and Cα-OH on the oxidation mechanisms has been clearly observed, showing a significant selectivity on the Cα-Cβ bond cleavage induced by electrochemical oxidations.

This study was designed to explore the potential role of mixed-lineage protein kinase 3 (MLK3) in colorectal cancer (CRC) progression and its relationship with glutamine metabolism. The immunohistochemical staining results of MLK3 were primarily collected through 100 CRC patients. Wound healing and transwell assays were used to detect migration ability of CRC cells by transfecting cells with siMlk3. Gene set variation analysis (GSVA) and Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient were used as bioinformatics tools to explore the signaling pathways related to MLK3. Western blotting was performed to analyze the downstream of glutamine metabolism. The results suggested an increased expression of MLK3 in CRC tissues, which was related to adverse clinicopathological characteristics in those CRC patients. Knockdown of MLK3 inhibited the proliferative and migratory potential of CRCs. Bioinformatics analysis confirmed the relationship between MLK3 expression and cancer malignancy related signaling pathways. CRC cell lines transfected with siMlk3 suppressed glutamine metabolism by downregulating the glutamine transporter alanine-serine-cysteine transporter 2 (ASCT2). These results suggested the vital role of MLK3 in CRC progression, which may be related to the suppression of glutamine transporter, namely alanine, serine, cysteine transporter 2 (ASCT2).

ABSTRACTBackground Several clinical studies have demonstrated that pediatric obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with dysbiosis of airway mucosal microbiota. However, how oral and nasal microbial diversity, composition, and structure are altered in pediatric OSA has not been systemically explored.Methods 30 polysomnography-confirmed OSA patients with adenoid hypertrophy, and 30 controls who did not have adenoid hypertrophy, were enrolled. Swabs from four surface oral tissue sites (tongue base, soft palate, both palatine tonsils, and adenoid) and one nasal swab from both anterior nares were collected. The 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) V3–V4 region was sequenced to identify the microbial communities.Results The beta diversity and microbial profiles were significantly different between pediatric OSA patients and controls at the five upper airway sites. The abundances of Haemophilus, Fusobacterium, and Porphyromonas were higher at adenoid and tonsils sites of pediatric patients with OSA. Functional analysis revealed that the differential pathway between the pediatric OSA patients and controls involved glycerophospholipids and amino acid metabolism.Conclusions In this study, the oral and nasal microbiome of pediatric OSA patients exhibited certain differences in composition compared with the controls. However, the microbiota data could be useful as a reference for studies on the upper airway microbiome.

As one of the three major components of woody biomass, lignin is a kind of natural organic polymer and the only abundant natural renewable resource with aromatic nucleus. Chemical catalysis induced depolymerization is an important and effective approach for lignin utilization. In particular, photocatalysis and electrocatalysis show great potential in accurately activating C–O/C–C bonds, which is a critical point of selective cleavage of lignin. In this contribution, we focus on radical and (photo)electron transfer induced reaction mechanisms of the photo(electro)catalytic depolymerization of lignin. Primarily, the general situation of Carbon-centered radicals and active oxygen species mediated lignin conversion has been discussed. Then the mechanisms for (photo)electron transfer mediated lignin depolymerization have been summarized. At the end of this review, the challenges and opportunities of photo(electro)catalysis in the applications of lignin valorization have been forecasted.

Background. Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is the main pathogen of hepatocellular carcinoma. However, the mechanisms of HBV-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression are practically unknown. Materials and Methods. The results of RNA-sequence and clinical data for GSE121248 and GSE17548 were accessed from the Gene Expression Omnibus data library. We screened Sangerbox 3.0 for differentially expressed genes (DEGs). The weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was employed to select core modules and hub genes, and protein-protein interaction network module analysis also played a significant part in it. Validation was performed using RNA-sequence data of cancer and normal tissues of HBV-related HCC patients in the cancer genome atlas-liver hepatocellular cancer database (TCGA-LIHC). Results. 787 DEGs were identified from GSE121248 and 772 DEGs were identified from GSE17548. WGCNA analysis indicated that black modules (99 genes) and grey modules (105 genes) were significantly associated with HBV-related HCC. Gene ontology analysis found that there is a direct correlation between DEGs and the regulation of cell movement and adhesion; the internal components and external packaging structure of plasma membrane; signaling receptor binding, calcium ion binding, etc. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analysis found out the association between cytokine receptors, cytokine-cytokine receptor interactions, and viral protein interactions with cytokines were important and HBV-related HCC. Finally, we further validated 6 key genes including C7, EGR1, EGR3, FOS, FOSB, and prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 2 by using the TCGALIHC. Conclusions. We identified 6 hub genes as candidate biomarkers for HBV-related HCC. These hub genes may act as an essential part of HBV-related HCC progression.

Abstract This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic efficacy of programmed spatial anatomy of myopectineal orifice technique in laparoscopic total extraperitoneal hernioplasty (TEP) surgery. A total of 121 adult male patients with unilateral inguinal hernias who underwent TEP in the Department of General Surgery, Wujin Hospital, affiliated with Jiangsu University, from January 2019 to December 2020 were selected. Patients were divided into the procedural (63 cases) and traditional groups (58 cases) according to the surgical methods adopted. The procedural group underwent programmed spatial anatomy of the myopectineal orifice combined with TEP, and the traditional group underwent traditional TEP. The perioperative evaluation indicators and postoperative complications were observed and compared between the two groups. Compared with the traditional group, the time of handling hernia, the intraoperative operation time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative ambulation time, and postoperative hospital stay in the procedural group were significantly reduced (P 0.05). The programmed spatial anatomy of the myopectineal orifice can significantly improve the treatment outcome of TEP, significantly improve the patients' intraoperative and postoperative indicators, and reduce the incidence of postoperative complications. It is worthy of being promoted among young physicians and basic hospitals.

Abstract Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is one of main contributors to poor prognosis and rapid progression of hepatocellular cancer (HCC). We previously identified the important role of the phosphorylation of ubiquitin-like with PHD and ring finger domains (UHRF2) in HBV-associated HCC. In this study we identify upregulated UHRF2 protein levels in HBV-associated HCC cells and tissues. UHRF2 overexpression promotes the viability, proliferation, migration and invasiveness of HBV-positive HCC cell lines, and enhances HBV DNA replication. To obtain a comprehensive understanding of the interaction networks of UHRF2 and their underlying mechanism, this study suggests that UHRF2 facilitates the ubiquitin-proteasome-mediated proteolysis of DExD/H (Asp-Glu-Ala-His) -box helicase enzyme 9 (DHX9). However, phosphorylation of UHRF2 by HBx at S643 inhibits E3 ubiquitin ligase activity of UHRF2 and improves DHX9 protein stability. Furthermore, results suggest that HBx promotes phosphorylation of UHRF2 by the ETS1-CDK2 axis through the downregulation of miR-222-3p in HBV-associated HCC specimens and cells. Our findings suggest that HBx-induced phosphorylation of UHRF2 S643 acts as a “switch” in HBV-associated HCC oncogenesis, activating the positive feedback between phosphorylated UHRF2 and HBV, provide evidence that UHRF2 is a new regulator and a potential prognostic indicator of poor prognosis for HBV-associated HCC.

Summary: Akt is commonly activated and serves as a valuable target in human cancer. In this study, OTUD1 is identified as an Akt-associated protein and is downregulated upon Akt activation. Ectopic OTUD1 inhibits Akt phosphorylation; however, its deubiquitinase activity contributes only slightly to this effect. A short peptide (OUN-36) located in the OTUD1 N-terminal intrinsically disordered region strongly binds to the Akt PH domain. The residues in the PH domain, which are required for PtdIns(3,4,5)P3 recognition, are also essential for OUN-36 binding. OUN-36 preferentially inhibits Akt-hyperactive tumor cells’ proliferation and interferes with Akt cell membrane localization, presumably by disrupting PH domain-PIP3 interaction. Importantly, OUN-36-based therapy efficiently abrogates Akt feedback reactivation in response to MK-2206 treatment and sensitizes cancer cells to chemotherapy and immunotherapy. We therefore show a mechanism by which OTUD1 modulates Akt activity and suggest a potential peptide-based cancer therapeutic strategy implemented by targeting the Akt PH domain.

Genome wide association studies show there is a genetic component to severe COVID-19. We find evidence that the genome-wide genetic association signal with severe COVID-19 is correlated with that of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), having formally tested this using genetic correlation analysis by LD score regression. To identify the shared associated loci and gain insight into the shared genetic effects, using summary level data we performed meta-analyses, a local genetic correlation analysis and fine-mapping using stepwise regression and functional annotation. This identified multiple loci shared between the two traits, some of which exert opposing effects. The locus with most evidence of shared association is TYK2, a gene critical to the type I interferon pathway, where the local genetic correlation is negative. Another shared locus is CLEC1A, where the direction of effects is aligned, that encodes a lectin involved in cell signaling, and the anti-fungal immune response. Our analyses suggest that several loci with reciprocal effects between the two traits have a role in the defense response pathway, adding to the evidence that SLE risk alleles are protective against infection.

Burnout is a serious problem in the teaching profession. Research suggests that career calling could be regarded as a protective factor against burnout; however, the mediating mechanism underlying this relationship remains to be explored. The purpose of this study was to test the mediating roles of work engagement and teachers' psychological capital. A total of 3,300 teachers completed a self-report questionnaire. Results showed that the relationship between career calling and burnout was mediated by work engagement and teacher psychological capital. These findings provide insights for preventing burnout among teacher groups.

ObjectivesStudies have shown that obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is inextricably linked with cardiovascular diseases (CVD). However, the roles of certain common sleep disturbances, such as low slow-wave sleep, excessive daytime sleepiness and short sleep duration, in the pathogenesis and progression of CVD in patients with OSA have not been determined. Therefore, we conducted a large cross-sectional study to explore the effect of low slow-wave sleep, excessive daytime sleepiness and short sleep duration on the risk of CVD in patients with OSA.MethodsSubjects were consecutively enrolled to participate in the sleep center of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Affiliated Sixth People’s Hospital. All OSA patients were diagnosed by standard polysomnography, while controls were all simple snorers. A total of 4,475 participants were strictly recruited. The Framingham Risk Score were employed to assess the 10-year risk of CVD, and logistic regression was used to measure the association between sleep disturbances and the moderate-to-high CVD risk.ResultsIn the whole cohort, OSA, excessive daytime sleepiness, and low slow-wave sleep were all risk factors for the moderate-to-high 10-year CVD risk (odds ratio [OR] = 3.012, 95% confidence interval [CI] 2.418–3.751; OR = 1.407, 95% CI: 1.228–1.613, and OR = 0.973,95% CI: 0.967–0.980), but sleep duration did not contribute significantly to that risk. BackgroundUnilateral oophorectomy has the benefits of preserving the ovarian function of fertility and hormone secretion, but the precise inclusion criteria for candidates for this procedure remain controversial. This study aimed to compare the prevalence and therapeutic efficiency of unilateral oophorectomy in women with ovarian cancer who underwent bilateral oophorectomy; moreover, it aimed to identify the appropriate candidates for unilateral oophorectomy.MethodsFemale patients diagnosed with stage I-III ovarian cancer between 2000 and 2017 were retrospectively identified from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results program database. Overall survival (OS) and disease-specific survival (DSS) after unilateral or bilateral (salpingo-) oophorectomy were estimated. Cumulative mortality rates (CMRs) for non-cancer comorbidities were also estimated.ResultsA total of 28,480 women with ovarian cancer were included in this study, of whom 11,517 died during the study period. Of the patients, 7.5% and 48.0% underwent unilateral and bilateral oophorectomy, respectively. Overall, for stage-Ia tumors, unilateral oophorectomy was associated with remarkably better OS and DSS than bilateral oophorectomy (OS: p < 0.001; DSS: p = 0.01). For stage-Ib and stage-Ic ovarian tumor, there was no significant difference between the OS and DSS of patients treated by unilateral oophorectomy and those treated by bilateral oophorectomy. For stage-II and stage-III ovarian cancer, unilateral oophorectomy was associated with remarkably worse OS and DSS than bilateral oophorectomy. Among the reproductive-age women younger than 50 years, the OS and DSS of patients with stage-I tumors receiving unilateral oophorectomy were comparable to those receiving bilateral oophorectomy, even for high-grade stage-Ic tumors (all p > 0.05). For those aged 50 years and older, OS and DSS of patients with stage-I tumor receiving unilateral oophorectomy were significantly worse than those receiving bilateral oophorectomy, even for low-grade stage-Ia ovarian tumor (OS: p < 0.001; DSS: p = 0.02).ConclusionUnilateral oophorectomy exhibited excellent oncological superiority and was equivalent to bilateral oophorectomy for stage-I ovarian tumors among women of reproductive age. For women of reproductive age, the criteria of unilateral oophorectomy can be appropriately broadened to high-grade stage-Ic diseases because of the better performance of unilateral oophorectomy in this population.

Background: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is the most common type of sleep apnea that impacts the development or progression of many other disorders. Abnormal expression of N6-methyladenosine (m6A) RNA modification regulators have been found relating to a variety of human diseases. However, it is not yet known if m6A regulators are involved in the occurrence and development of OSA. Herein, we aim to explore the impact of m6A modification in severe OSA.Methods: We detected the differentially expressed m6A regulators in severe OSA microarray dataset GSE135917. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and support vector machines (SVM) were used to identify the severe OSA-related m6A regulators. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were performed to screen and verify the diagnostic markers. Consensus clustering algorithm was used to identify m6A patterns. And then, we explored the character of immune microenvironment, molecular functionals, protein-protein interaction networks and miRNA-TF coregulatory networks for each subcluster. Finally, the Connectivity Map (CMap) tools were used to tailor customized treatment strategies for different severe OSA subclusters. An independent dataset GSE38792 was used for validation.Results: We found that HNRNPA2B1, KIAA1429, ALKBH5, YTHDF2, FMR1, IGF2BP1 and IGF2BP3 were dysregulated in severe OSA patients. Among them, IGF2BP3 has a high diagnostic value in both independent datasets. Furthermore, severe OSA patients can be accurately classified into three m6A patterns (subcluster1, subcluster2, subcluster3). The immune response in subcluster3 was more active because it has high M0 Macrophages and M2 Macrophages infiltration and up-regulated human leukocyte antigens (HLAs) expression. Functional analysis showed that representative genes for each subcluster in severe OSA were assigned to histone methyltransferase, ATP synthesis coupled electron transport, virus replication, RNA catabolic, multiple neurodegeneration diseases pathway, et al. Moreover, our finding demonstrated cyclooxygenase inhibitors, several of adrenergic receptor antagonists and histamine receptor antagonists might have a therapeutic effect on severe OSA.Conclusion: Our study presents an overview of the expression pattern and crucial role of m6A regulators in severe OSA, which may provide critical insights for future research and help guide appropriate prevention and treatment options.

Abstract Background The solid transport media is a small size card that allows fast, easy DNA extraction from a variety of biological samples. In 2016 we developed a solid media transport card; for that pilot study to control the self-collection we used a pseudo-self-collection technique. The current study expands this prior work using true self-collections and only the POI card, and aims to evaluate the solid media transport card to detect HR-HPV in self-samples compared to liquid transport media. Methods Ten thousand eight hundred eighty-five women between the ages of 30–59 with no screening for 3 years were enrolled. The self-collected sample was first applied to a new solid media transport card (Labeled as SC) then the brush placed in 6 ml ThinPrep liquid (Labeled as SL). Then a physician collected a direct endocervical specimen into ThinPrep liquid (Labeled as DL). Samples were tested with Cobas 4800 and the SeqHPV NGS assay for HR-HPV. Patients positive on any test were recalled for colposcopy and biopsy. Results Ten thousand three hundred thirty-nine participants had complete data. The mean age was 43.9 years. CIN 2+ rates were 1.4% (142/10339). The agreement in HPV detection between the two different self-sample collection media was also good (Cobas HPV kappa = 0.86; SeqHPV kappa = 0.98). Tested with Cobas, the sensitivity of Cobas-SL and Cobas-SC for CIN 2+ was95.07 and 94.37%; and for CIN3+ was 96.30, 96.30% respectively. The specificity of Cobas-SC, and Cobas-SL for CIN2+ was 88.74 and 87.35%; for CIN3 was 88.04and 86.65% respectively. Tested with SeqHPV, the sensitivity for CIN2+ of Seq-SC and Seq-SL was 95.77 and 96.48%; for CIN3+, both the SC and SL specimens had a sensitivity of 100%. The specificity for CIN2+ of Seq-SC and Seq-SL was 89.54 and 89.53%; for CIN3+ was 88.84,88.82% respectively. For both HR-HPV assays, the sensitivities were similar for the two self-sample media (SC vs SL, p = 1.00). Conclusions The solid transport card for collecting vaginal self-samples as accurate as liquid transport media assayed by two different PCR based HR-HPV tests. The solid transport media is a suitable medium for collecting and storing vaginal self-samples.

Rosmarinic acid (RA) has been proven to exert antianaphylaxis in atopic dermatitis, asthma, and allergic rhinitis. The aim of this study was to determine the hepatoprotective effects of RA on ovalbumin (OVA) challenge-induced intestinal allergy. The results exhibited that RA could relieve anaphylactic symptoms, decrease diarrhea, and prevent hypothermia in allergic mice. Moreover, the elevation of OVA specific IgE (OVA-sIgE), histamine, and mouse mast cell proteinases (mMCP-1) in the serum of OVA challenged mice were remarkably inhibited by RA. OVA challenge resulted in notable increases in serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activities, liver malondialdehyde (MDA) and nitic oxide (NO) levels, and a remarkable decrease in liver superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and glutathione (GSH) level. RA treatments succeeded in improving these biochemical parameters and promote the redox homeostasis. Cytokine expression evaluation showed that RA effectively enhanced the expression of anti-inflammatory cytokines (IL-10 and FOXP-3) in the liver of OVA-challenged mice. Meanwhile, the elevation of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-4, IL-6, mMCP-1, and iNOS) were remarkably inhibited by RA. These findings suggest that RA possesses hepatoprotective effects on OVA challenge-induced liver injury. The anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory activities of RA potentially play vital roles in this process.

Biomass carbon quantum dots (CQDs) were widely used in bioimaging and WO2.72 has great potential in cancer therapy. The biomass CQDs were prepared by mixed acid oxidation method with biomass materials such as pods, tobacco leaves and cysteine as carbon sources. Properties of biomass carbon quantum dots were characterized, including micromorphology, the functional group composition, photoluminescence properties and fluorescence labeling ability in HepG2 cells. And the cytotoxicity of CQDs in HepG2 and MCF-7 cells was tested. In this paper, in situ loading of biomass CQDs on one dimensional long rod like WO2.72 (C-WO2.72) was synthesized by solvothermal method. A successful pregnancy depends on not only the tolerance of the fetal immune system by the mother but also resistance against the threat of hazardous microorganisms. Infection with pathogenic microorganisms during pregnancy may lead to premature delivery, miscarriage, growth restriction, neonatal morbidity, and other adverse outcomes. Moreover, the host also has an intact immune system to avoid these adverse outcomes. It is important to note the presence of normal bacteria in the maternal reproductive tract and the principal role of the maternal-placental-fetal interaction in antimicrobial immunity. Previous studies mainly focused on maternal infection during pregnancy. However, this review summarizes the new views on the study of the maternal microbiome and expounds the innate immune defense mechanism of the maternal vagina and decidua as well as how cytotrophoblasts and syncytiotrophoblasts recognize and kill bacteria in the placenta. Fetal immune systems, thought to be weak, also exhibit an immune defense function that is indispensable for maintaining the safety of the fetus. The skin, lungs, and intestines of the fetus during pregnancy constitute the main immune barriers. These findings will provide a new understanding of the effects of normal microbial flora and how the host resists harmful microbes during pregnancy. We believe that it may also contribute to the reference on the clinical prevention and treatment of gestational infection to avoid adverse pregnancy outcomes.

In order to better understand the specific substituent effects on the electrochemical oxidation process of b-O-4 bond, a series of methoxyphenyl type b-O-4 dimer model compounds with different localized methoxyl groups, including 2-(2-methoxyphenoxy)-1-phenylethanone, 2-(2-methoxyphenoxy)-1-phenylethanol, 2-(2-methoxyphenoxy)-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)ethanone, 2-(2-methoxyphenoxy)-1-(4-methoxyphenyl) ethanol, 2-(2,6-dimethoxyphenoxy)-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)ethanone, 2-(2,6-dimethoxyphenoxy)-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)ethanol have been selected and their electrochemical properties have been studied experimentally by cyclic voltammetry, and FT-IR spectroelectrochemistry. Combining with electrolysis products distribution analysis and density functional theory calculations, oxidation mechanisms of all six model dimers have been explored. In particular, a total effect from substituents of both para-methoxy (on the aryl ring closing to Ca) and Ca-OH on the oxidation mechanisms has been clearly observed, showing a significant selectivity on the Ca-Cb bond cleavage induced by electrochemical oxidations.
