Aims: Given the epidemic proportions of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) globally, it's crucial to comprehensively understand the factors influencing its management. The gut microbiome, known for its influence on various aspects of health, has emerged as a potential regulator of blood pressure in individuals with T2DM. This umbrella review aimed to consolidate the findings of existing meta-analyses investigating the impact of gut microbiome modulation on systolic and diastolic blood pressure in T2DM patients., Data Synthesis: Adhering to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, we systematically searched PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases from inception to July 2023. Quality assessment was performed using the AMSTAR2 and GRADE checklists. Statistical analyses were conducted using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) version 3. A total of 6 meta-analyses meeting the inclusion criteria were included. The results revealed a significant association between microbial modulation and diastolic blood pressure (SMD: -0.133; 95% CI: -0.219 to -0.048; P = 0.002). However, the effect of gut microbial modulation on systolic blood pressure did not reach statistical significance (SMD: -0.077; 95% CI: -0.162 to 0.009; P = 0.078)., Conclusion: This study found that modulating the gut microbiome had a statistically significant impact on diastolic blood pressure in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, no significant effect was observed on systolic blood pressure. Objective: The present umbrella review aims to collate and summarize the findings from previous meta-analyses on the Triglyceride and Glucose (TyG) Index, providing insights to clinicians, researchers, and policymakers regarding the usefulness of this biomarker in various clinical settings., Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science up to April 14, 2024, without language restrictions. The AMSTAR2 checklist assessed the methodological quality of the included meta-analyses. Statistical analyses were performed using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) software., Results: A total of 32 studies were finally included. The results revealed significant associations between the TyG index and various health outcomes. For kidney outcomes, a high TyG index was significantly associated with an increased risk of contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) (OR = 2.24, 95% CI: 1.82-2.77) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) (RR = 1.46, 95% CI: 1.32-1.63). High TyG index was significantly associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) (RR = 3.53, 95% CI: 2.74-4.54), gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) (OR = 2.41, 95% CI: 1.48-3.91), and diabetic retinopathy (DR) (OR = 2.34, 95% CI: 1.31-4.19). Regarding metabolic diseases, the TyG index was significantly higher in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) (SMD = 0.86, 95% CI: 0.57-1.15), metabolic syndrome (MD = 0.83, 95% CI: 0.74-0.93), and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) (OR = 2.36, 95% CI: 1.88-2.97) compared to those without these conditions. In cerebrovascular diseases, a higher TyG index was significantly associated with an increased risk of dementia (OR = 1.14, 95% CI: 1.12-1.16), cognitive impairment (OR = 2.31, 95% CI: 1.38-3.86), and ischemic stroke (OR = 1.37, 95% CI: 1.22-1.54). For cardiovascular outcomes, the TyG index showed significant associations with an increased risk of heart failure (HF) (HR = 1.21, 95% CI: 1.12-1.30), atrial fibrillation (AF) (SMD = 1.22, 95% CI: 0.57-1.87), and hypertension (HTN) (RR = 1.52, 95% CI: 1.25-1.85)., Conclusion: The TyG index is a promising biomarker for screening and predicting various medical conditions, particularly those related to insulin resistance and metabolic disorders. However, the heterogeneity and methodological quality of the included studies suggest the need for further high-quality research to confirm these findings and refine the clinical utility of the TyG index., (© 2024. Background: We aimed to explore how probiotics, prebiotics, or synbiotics impact glycemic indices in patients with diabetes mellitus., Method: A comprehensive search was conducted on PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science from inception up to April 2023. The random-effects model was employed for the study analysis. Furthermore, sensitivity and subgroup analyses were conducted to investigate potential sources of heterogeneity. AMSTAR2 checklist was used to determine the quality of studies. Comprehensive meta-analysis version 3 was used for the study analysis., Result: A total of 31 studies were included in the final analysis. Based on the results of the meta-analysis, gut microbial therapy could significantly decrease serum fasting blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (effect size: -0.211; 95 % CI: -0.257, -0.164; P < 0.001). Additionally, significant associations were also found between gut microbial therapy and improved serum levels of fasting insulin, glycated hemoglobin, and homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (effect size: -0.087; 95 % confidence interval: -0.120, -0.053; P < 0.001; effect size: -0.166; 95 % confidence interval: -0.200, -0.132; P < 0.001; effect size: -0.230; 95 % confidence interval: -0.288, -0.172; P < 0.001, respectively)., Conclusion: Our results revealed promising effects of gut microbiota modulation on glycemic profile of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Background: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a global health challenge, with a rising rate in line with other metabolic diseases. We aimed to assess the global prevalence of NAFLD in adult and pediatric populations., Methods: PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science databases were systematically searched up to May 2023. Heterogeneity was assessed using Cochran's Q test and I 2 statistics, and random-effects model was used for meta-analysis. Analyses were performed using STATA version 18., Results: A total of 479 studies with 78,001,755 participants from 38 countries were finally included. The global prevalence of NAFLD was estimated to be 30.2% (95% CI: 28.7-31.7%). Regionally, the prevalence of NAFLD was as follows: Asia 30.9% (95% CI: 29.2-32.6%), Australia 16.1% (95% CI: 9.0-24.8%), Europe 30.2% (95% CI: 25.6-35.0%), North America 29% (95% CI: 25.8-32.3%), and South America 34% (95% CI: 16.9-53.5%). Countries with a higher human development index (HDI) had significantly lower prevalence of NAFLD (coefficient = -0.523, p = 0.005). Globally, the prevalence of NAFLD in men and women was 36.6% (95% CI: 34.7-38.4%) and 25.5% (95% CI: 23.9-27.1%), respectively. The prevalence of NAFLD in adults, adults with obesity, children, and children with obesity was 30.2% (95% CI: 28.8-31.7%), 57.5% (95% CI: 43.6-70.9%), 14.3% (95% CI: 10.3-18.8%), and 38.0% (95% CI: 31.5-44.7%), respectively., Conclusion: The prevalence of NAFLD is remarkably high, particularly in countries with lower HDI. Purpose: Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) is a potentially serious complication following surgical treatment of vestibular schwannoma, a benign tumor originating from Schwann cells of the vestibulocochlear nerve. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of CVST following surgical treatment of vestibular schwannoma and the factors contributing to its occurrence., Method: Two independent researchers searched the global databases of PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and the Cochrane Library up to September 01, 2023. We employed a random-effects model for data analysis. Heterogeneity was evaluated using the I 2 test. To assess the quality of the studies meeting our inclusion criteria, we employed the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Checklist., Results: We included 23 articles in this meta-analysis. The pooled prevalence of CVST after vestibular schwannoma surgery was 6.4% (95%CI 3.4-11.5%). The pooled prevalence of CVST following the retrosigmoid (RS), translabyrinthine (TL), and middle cranial fossa (MCF) approaches was 4.8% (95%CI 2.0-11.0%), 9.6% (95%CI 4.3-20.3%) and 9.9% (95%CI 1.6-42.2%), respectively, revealing a significant difference between the TL and the RS approaches (Odds ratio = 2.10, 95%CI 1.45-3.04, P < 0.001). The sigmoid sinus exhibited the highest post-operative thrombosis rate (7.9%), surpassing the transverse sinus (3.7%) and involvement of both sigmoid and transverse sinuses (1.6%), respectively. No significant associations were found with demographic or surgical factors., Conclusion: In the current meta-analysis, we identified a 6.4% CVST prevalence following vestibular schwannoma surgery, with varying rates depending on the surgical approach. Background: Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure that has recently emerged as a treatment option for autonomous functioning thyroid nodules (AFTNs), offering a less invasive alternative to surgery. The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to evaluate the efficacy of RFA for AFTNs., Method: Global databases of PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library were systematically searched from 1990 until January 5, 2024, for studies on AFTNs undergoing RFA that presented volume reduction ratio (VRR) for at least one of 1, 3, 6 or 12 months post-operative follow-up with the results presented as means. The primary outcomes were VRR and TSH normalization rate, and the secondary outcomes were the cosmetic score, symptom score, and post-procedure complications. Heterogeneity was assessed by Cochrane and I 2 statistics, and a random-effects model was used for meta-analysis. The study protocol was registered on PROSPERO (CRD42024499932)., Results: A total of 10 eligible studies with a total sample size of 254 were included. The pooled VRR after 1, 3, 6, and 12 months of follow-up post-treatment with RFA was 46.6% (95% CI: 40.3-52.9%), 62% (95% CI: 57.6-66.4%), 67.4% (95% CI:62.3-72.6%), and 77.2% (95% CI: 79.2-81.5%), respectively. The overall rate of TSH normalization was 76.4% (95% CI: 58.1-88.4%). Based on included studies the overall rate of subclinical hypothyroidism as one of the most important side effects of this method was 4% (95% CI: 1.9%-8.1%)., Conclusion: RFA emerges as a promising non-surgical treatment for AFTNs, showing high rates of TSH normalization, tumor size reduction, and improved cosmetic and symptom scores. Background: The introduction of ChatGPT by OpenAI has garnered significant attention. Among its capabilities, paraphrasing stands out., Objective: This study aims to investigate the satisfactory levels of plagiarism in the paraphrased text produced by this chatbot., Methods: Three texts of varying lengths were presented to ChatGPT. ChatGPT was then instructed to paraphrase the provided texts using five different prompts. In the subsequent stage of the study, the texts were divided into separate paragraphs, and ChatGPT was requested to paraphrase each paragraph individually. Lastly, in the third stage, ChatGPT was asked to paraphrase the texts it had previously generated., Results: The average plagiarism rate in the texts generated by ChatGPT was 45% (SD 10%). ChatGPT exhibited a substantial reduction in plagiarism for the provided texts (mean difference -0.51, 95% CI -0.54 to -0.48; P<.001). Furthermore, when comparing the second attempt with the initial attempt, a significant decrease in the plagiarism rate was observed (mean difference -0.06, 95% CI -0.08 to -0.03; P<.001). The number of paragraphs in the texts demonstrated a noteworthy association with the percentage of plagiarism, with texts consisting of a single paragraph exhibiting the lowest plagiarism rate (P<.001)., Conclusions: Although ChatGPT demonstrates a notable reduction of plagiarism within texts, the existing levels of plagiarism remain relatively high. Background: Ventricular echogenic foci are small structures within the hearts of some fetuses. These small areas result from increased echogenicity in the ventricles of fetuses located near the papillary muscles. An association between these foci and chromosomal abnormalities in fetuses has been reported. Considering that chromosomal abnormalities are a major cause of prenatal death, this study aimed to determine the value of fetal echogenic foci as markers for chromosomal abnormalities., Materials and Methods: Fetal echocardiography was performed by an experienced cardiologist on 149 pregnant women in the second trimester. Of these, 75 were reported to have positive echogenic foci, and 74 were reported to have no echogenic foci. Subsequently, the three chromosomal anomalies including trisomies 21, 18, and 13 were examined. The information of the individuals, including gestational age and echogenic foci, was recorded., Results: Based on the findings of the present study, seven infants (4.7%) had trisomy 21, four infants (2.7%) had trisomy 13, and six infants (4.1%) had trisomy 18. The mean gestational age of pregnant women with positive and negative echogenic foci was 21.07±3.23 and 21.03±3.09, respectively. No significant relationship was found between ventricular echogenic foci and trisomy 21, 18, or 13., Conclusion: The present study suggests no significant relation between the presence of echogenic foci and chromosomal trisomies. This finding indicates that additional tests are required to confirm chromosomal abnormalities when echogenic intracardiac foci are present, especially in high-risk fetuses. Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a significant risk factor for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Increased fasting blood sugar (FBS), fasting insulin (FI), and insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) are observed in patients with NAFLD. Gut microbial modulation using prebiotics, probiotics, and synbiotics has shown promise in NAFLD treatment. This meta-umbrella study aimed to investigate the effects of gut microbial modulation on glycemic indices in patients with NAFLD and discuss potential mechanisms of action., Methods: A systematic search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane Library until March 2023 for meta-analyses evaluating the effects of probiotics, prebiotics, and synbiotics on patients with NAFLD. Random-effect models, sensitivity analysis, and subgroup analysis were employed., Results: Gut microbial therapy significantly decreased HOMA-IR (ES: -0.41; 95%CI: -0.52, -0.31; P < 0.001) and FI (ES: -0.59; 95%CI: -0.77, -0.41; P < 0.001). However, no significant effect was observed on FBS (ES: -0.17; 95%CI: -0.36, 0.02; P = 0.082). Subgroup analysis revealed prebiotics had the most potent effect on HOMA-IR, followed by probiotics and synbiotics. For FI, synbiotics had the most substantial effect, followed by prebiotics and probiotics., Conclusion: Probiotics, prebiotics, and synbiotics administration significantly reduced FI and HOMA-IR, but no significant effect was observed on FBS., (© 2024. Context: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is considered the leading cause of chronic liver disease worldwide. To date, no confirmed medication is available for the treatment of NAFLD. Previous studies showed the promising effects of gut microbiome-targeted therapies; however, the results were controversial and the strength of the evidence and their clinical significance remained unclear., Objectives: This umbrella study summarizes the results of meta-analyses investigating the effects of probiotics, prebiotics, and synbiotics on liver enzymes in the NAFLD population., Data Source: A comprehensive search of the PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases was done up to December 20, 2022, to find meta-analyses on randomized control trials reporting the effects of gut microbial therapy on patients with NAFLD., Data Extraction: Two independent investigators extracted data on the characteristics of meta-analyses, and any discrepancies were resolved by a third researcher. The AMSTAR2 checklist was used for evaluating the quality of studies., Data Analysis: A final total of 15 studies were included in the analysis. Results showed that microbiome-targeted therapies could significantly reduce levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT; effect size [ES], -10.21; 95% confidence interval [CI], -13.29, -7.14; P < 0.001), aspartate aminotransferase (AST; ES, -8.86; 95%CI, -11.39, -6.32; P < 0.001), and γ-glutamyltransferase (ES, -5.56; 95%CI, -7.92, -3.31; P < 0.001) in patients with NAFLD. Results of subgroup analysis based on intervention showed probiotics could significantly reduce levels of AST (ES, -8.69; 95%CI, -11.01, -6.37; P < 0.001) and ALT (ES, -9.82; 95%CI, -11.59, -8.05; P < 0.001). Synbiotics could significantly reduce levels of AST (ES, -11.40; 95%CI, -13.91, -8.88; P < 0.001) and ALT (ES, -11.87; 95%CI, -13.80, -9.95; P < 0.001). Prebiotics had no significant effects on AST and ALT levels (ES, -2.96; 95%CI, -8.12, 2.18, P = 0.259; and ES, -4.69; 95%CI, -13.53, 4.15, P = 0.299, respectively)., Conclusion: Gut microbiome-targeted therapies could be a promising therapeutic approach in the improvement of hepatic damage in patients with NAFLD. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need to study oral fungal carriage and its potential impact. In oral fungal environments, factors like changes in respiratory epithelium, increased pathogen attachment, local inflammation, and virulence factors could influence COVID-19 severity. The authors conducted a study to explore oral fungal carriage in COVID-19 patients and compare it to a healthy control group., Methods: The authors executed a case-control investigation including 144 COVID-19 patients and an equivalent number of 144 healthy controls. The matching criteria encompassed age, sex, body mass index, and the history of antibiotic and antiviral medication intake. This research was performed over a span of 12 months from May 2021 to May 2022. The mouth area was sampled with a cotton-tipped swab. Subsequently, all the samples underwent fungal culture and PCR-sequencing procedures., Results: In COVID-19 patients, oral fungal carriage was three times higher compared to healthy controls. Candida was the exclusive genus found in both groups, with Candida albicans being the most frequently isolated species (90.79%). Among COVID-19 patients, Candida species showed significantly higher esterase, proteinase, and hemolysin activity compared to healthy individuals. Background: Measles, a highly contagious and vaccine-preventable disease, continues to present global public health challenges. This retrospective study focused on measles outbreaks in Hormozgan province, southern Iran, spanning from 2014 to 2019., Methods: Between 2014 and 2019, patients suspected of having measles, as reported by medical centers in Hormozgan, were subject to a comprehensive evaluation. The diagnosis of measles was conclusively established through the use of real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing. A detailed collection of pertinent data was undertaken. SPSS software, version 21, was employed for statistical analysis., Results: In the current study, out of 1291 clinically suspected measles cases, 151 were PCR-confirmed, with an average age of 16.77 years (±10.46), comprising 50.9% males and 49.1% females. The annual distribution showed varied incidence: 8.4% in 2014, peaking at 18.8% in 2015, then fluctuating to 11.4% in 2016, 0.8% in 2017, and 17.9% in 2018, with no cases in 2019. Among confirmed cases, 16.5% were vaccinated, while 68.2% were not, and 15.23% had unknown vaccination status., Conclusion: This retrospective study highlights the ongoing challenge of measles in Hormozgan province, Iran, from 2014 to 2019. Despite measles being preventable by vaccination, a significant number of cases were confirmed among both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals, indicating gaps in immunization coverage and effectiveness. The fluctuating annual incidence, with a peak in 2015 and no cases in 2019, suggests variable success in disease control efforts. Objective: This study aimed to explore the global, prevalence, and risk factors of fever after percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) by conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis., Methods: The high-sensitivity searching was conducted without time limitation until December 30, 2020 in Web of Sciences, Scopus, and PubMed based on inclusion and exclusion criteria., Results: The prevalence rates of fever and sepsis among patient undergoing PCNL were estimated 9.5% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 9.3%-9.7%), and 4.5% (95% CI: 4.2%-4.8%), respectively. Nephrostomy tube was used in 9.96% (95% CI: 9.94%-9.97%) of patients. The mean preoperative white blood cells of patients were 6.401×10 9 /L; 18.3% and 4.55% of patients were considered as the positive urinary culture and pyuria, respectively. About 20.4% of patients suffered from residual stones. The odds ratios (ORs) of fever in patients who suffering from diabetes mellitus, hydronephrosis, staghorn stones, and blood transfusion were 4.62 (95% CI: 2.95-7.26), 1.04 (95% CI: 0.81-1.34), 2.57 (95% CI: 0.93-7.11), and 2.65 (95% CI: 1.62-4.35), respectively. Background: Contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) is a form of acute kidney injury (AKI) occurring in patients undergoing cardiac catheterization, such as coronary angiography (CAG) or percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Although the conventional criterion for CIN detection involves a rise in creatinine levels within 72 h after contrast media injection, several limitations exist in this definition. Up to now, various meta-analyses have been undertaken to assess the accuracy of different biomarkers of CIN prediction. However, the existing body of research lacks a cohesive overview. To address this gap, a comprehensive umbrella review was necessary to consolidate and summarize the outcomes of prior meta-analyses. This umbrella study aimed to offer a current, evidence-based understanding of the prognostic value of biomarkers in predicting CIN., Methods: A systematic search of international databases, including PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, from inception to December 12, 2023, was conducted to identify meta-analyses assessing biomarkers for CIN prediction. Our own meta-analysis was performed by extracting data from the included studies. Sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihood ratio, and negative likelihood ratio were assessed using Meta-Disc and CMA softwares., Results: Twelve studies were ultimately included in the umbrella review. The results revealed that neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) exhibited the highest area under the curve (AUC), followed by cystatin-C, urinary kidney injury molecule-1 (uKIM-1), and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) with AUCs of 0.91, 0.89, 0.85, and 0.80, respectively. NGAL also demonstrated the highest positive likelihood ratio [effect size (ES): 6.02, 95% CI 3.86-9.40], followed by cystatin-C, uKIM-1, and BNP [ES: 4.35 (95% CI 2.85-6.65), 3.58 (95% CI 2.75-4.66), and 2.85 (95% CI 2.13-3.82), respectively]. uKIM-1 and cystatin-C had the lowest negative likelihood ratio, followed by NGAL and BNP [ES: 0.25 (95% CI 0.17-0.37), ES: 0.25 (95% CI 0.13-0.50), ES: 0.26 (95% CI 0.17-0.41), and ES: 0.39 (0.28-0.53) respectively]. NGAL emerged as the biomarker with the highest diagnostic odds ratio for CIN, followed by cystatin-C, uKIM-1, BNP, gamma-glutamyl transferase, hypoalbuminemia, contrast media volume to creatinine clearance ratio, preprocedural hyperglycemia, red cell distribution width (RDW), hyperuricemia, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, C-reactive protein (CRP), high-sensitivity CRP, and low hematocrit (P < 0.05)., Conclusion: NGAL demonstrated superior diagnostic performance, exhibiting the highest AUC, positive likelihood ratio, and diagnostic odds ratio among biomarkers for CIN, followed by cystatin-C, and uKIM-1. Background and Aim: Modulating the gut microbiota population by administration of probiotics, prebiotics, and synbiotics has shown to have a variety of health benefits in different populations, particularly those with metabolic disorders. Although the promising effects of these compounds have been observed in the management of patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), the exact effects and the mechanisms of action are yet to be understood. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate how gut microbiota modulation affects anthropometric indices of NAFLD patients to achieve a comprehensive summary of current evidence-based knowledge., Methods: Two researchers independently searched international databases, including PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, from inception to June 2023. Meta-analysis studies that evaluated the effects of probiotics, prebiotics, and synbiotics on patients with NAFLD were entered into our umbrella review. The data regarding anthropometric indices, including body mass index, weight, waist circumference (WC), and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), were extracted by the investigators. The authors used random effect model for conducting the meta-analysis. Subgroup analysis and sensitivity analysis were also performed., Results: A total number of 13 studies were finally included in our study. Based on the final results, BMI was significantly decreased in NAFLD patients by modulation of gut microbiota [effect size (ES): -0.18, 05% CI: -0.25, -0.11, P <0.001]; however, no significant alteration was observed in weight and WC (ES: -1.72, 05% CI: -3.48, 0.03, P =0.055, and ES: -0.24, 05% CI: -0.75, 0.26, P =0.353, respectively). The results of subgroup analysis showed probiotics had the most substantial effect on decreasing BMI (ES: -0.77, 95% CI: -1.16, -0.38, P <0.001) followed by prebiotics (ES: -0.51, 95% CI: -0.76, -0.27, P <0.001) and synbiotics (ES: -0.12, 95% CI: -0.20, -0.04, P =0.001)., Conclusion: In conclusion, the present umbrella meta-analysis showed that although modulation of gut microbiota by administration of probiotics, prebiotics, and synbiotics had promising effects on BMI, no significant change was observed in the WC and weight of the patients. The current meta-analysis aims to investigate the existing articles that evaluated the implications of a positive family history of cancer on the risk of colorectal cancer (CRC) within the EMRO countries. We employed PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science as search databases for this study. To assess the quality of the selected articles, we utilized the Newcastle-Ottawa (NCO) checklist. In comparing the impact of a family history of cancer between the case and control groups, we computed the odds ratio (OR) along with its corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI). Finally, 27 articles were selected for meta-analysis. The result of the meta-analysis showed a significant association between the presence of a family history of CRC or any cancers and CRC (OR 2.21; 95% CI 1.54-3.17; P < 0.001, OR 1.76; 95% CI 1.27-2.42; P = 0.001, respectively). Our findings underscore the critical importance of timely screening and early identification for individuals with a family history of cancer. By fostering close coordination among healthcare facilities and actively promoting the adoption of screening methods for early detection, we have the potential to significantly reduce both mortality rates and financial burdens of CRC on the general public, ultimately leading to enhanced patient outcomes., (© 2023. Background and Aim: Alzheimer's disease (AD), a prevalent progressive neurodegenerative disease, is mainly characterized by dementia, memory loss, and cognitive disorder. Rising research was performed to develop pharmacological or non-pharmacological approaches to treat or improve AD complications. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are stromal cells that can self-renew and exhibit multilineage differentiation. Recent evidence suggested that some of the therapeutic effects of MSCs are mediated by the secreted paracrine factors. These paracrine factors, called MSC- conditioned medium (MSC-CM), may stimulate endogenous repair, promote angio- and artery genesis, and reduce apoptosis through paracrine mechanisms. The current study aims to systematically review the advantages of MSC-CM to the development of research and therapeutic concepts for AD management., Material and Methods: The present systematic review was performed using PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus from April 2020 to May 2022 following the "Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews" (PRISMA) guidelines. The keywords, including "Conditioned medium OR Conditioned media OR Stem cell therapy" AND "Alzheimer's," was searched, and finally, 13 papers were extracted., Results: The obtained data revealed that MSC-CMs might positively affect neurodegenerative diseases prognosis, especially AD, through various mechanisms, including a decrease in neuro-inflammation, reduction of oxidative stress and Aβ formation, modulation of Microglia function and count, reduction of apoptosis, induction of synaptogenesis and neurogenesis. Also, the results showed that MSC-CM administration could significantly improve cognitive and memory function, increase the expression of neurotrophic factors, decrease the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, improve mitochondrial function, reduce cytotoxicity, and increase neurotransmitter levels., Conclusion: While inhibiting the induction of neuroinflammation could be considered the first therapeutic effect of CMs, the prevention of apoptosis could be regarded as the most crucial effect of CMs on AD improvement., (Copyright © 2023 Elsevier B.V. Background: Smoking poses a significant risk for colorectal cancer (CRC), considered the third leading reason for cancer-related deaths worldwide. However, there has been limited research on the relationship between smoking and CRC in the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office (EMRO). Therefore, a meta-analysis was conducted to combine available data and gain a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between smoking and CRC in EMRO., Methods: Two independent researchers searched PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science until December 2022. The included studies were checked for risk of bias administering the Newcastle-Ottawa scale. Heterogeneity was evaluated using I2 statistics and the Cochrane test. Publication bias was determined through funnel plot analysis and Egger's regression test. Additionally, a meta-regression analysis explored the impact of a country's Human Development Index (HDI) on the relationship between smoking and CRC., Results: The final analysis included 26 studies, revealing a significant association between smoking and CRC (OR = 1.40; 95% CI: 1.11 - 1.78; P = 0.004). Moreover, smoking had a more pronounced adverse effect on CRC in countries with higher HDIs compared to those with lower HDIs (OR = 1.30; 95% CI: 0.99 - 1.71; P = 0.054)., Conclusions: Our findings underscore the importance of implementing smoking cessation programs and policies in EMRO countries, as they demonstrate a positive relationship between smoking and the risk of CRC. Furthermore, the results suggest that a country's level of human development may influence the association between smoking and CRC. The third most frequent reason for hospitalized acute kidney injury is contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN). Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and coronary angiography (CAG) are two interventions that can result in CIN. In this study, we sought to determine how well gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) can predict CIN following CAG and PCI., Method: Two researchers searched through PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science in November 2022 to find articles that examined GGT levels in CIN patients following PCI or CAG. To rate the quality of the studies, the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Checklist was employed. The Cochran test and I 2 statistics were utilized to assess study heterogeneity. To calculate the number of participants required to reject the null hypothesis, power analysis was used. We evaluated the epidemiologic strength of the results using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE). The authors used Comprehensive Meta-analysis Version 3 to summarize the results., Results: GGT was shown to be considerably greater in patients with CIN according to the meta-analysis's findings (odds ratio: 3.21, 95% CI: 1.26-8.15, P =0.014); nevertheless, the findings were accompanied by significant heterogeneity (I 2 =91.93%, P <0.001). Background: Bronchiectasis is a condition characterized by abnormal and permanent bronchial constriction that leads to sputum production and bronchial infection. The current study was done to evaluate the effects of symbiotic probiotics on the clinical manifestations and exacerbation of bronchiectasis., Materials and Methods: 26 patients in the placebo group (A) and 24 patients in the probiotic group (B) were allocated. In group A, patients took the placebo capsules two times daily for six months. In group B, patients took the LactoCare two times daily for six months., Results: The mean age of patients was 55.73±13.62 (group A) and 54.5±12.59 years (group B). Most of the patients had consumed azithromycin in both groups. The current study demonstrated there was no statistically significant difference between the decreased rate of pulmonary exacerbations in both groups. However, a decreasing trend was shown in the rate of pulmonary exacerbations without hospitalization (P=0.610). Also, there was a decreasing trend in the rate of pulmonary exacerbations leading to hospitalization (P=0.956). The most frequent etiologic pathogen was Pseudomonas sp . FEV1 and FVC/FEV1 ratios were higher in group B than in group A. The emergence of SARS-CoV2 in 2019 showed again that the world's healthcare system is not fully equipped and well-designed for preventing the transmission of nosocomial respiratory infections. One of the great tools for preventing the spread of infectious organisms in hospitals is the anteroom. Several articles have investigated the role of the anteroom in disease control but the lack of a comprehensive study in this field prompted us to provide more in-depth information to fill this gap. Also, this study aimed to assess the necessity to construct an anteroom area for hospital staff members at the entrance of each ward of the hospital, and specify the equipment and facilities which make the anteroom more efficient. Articles were identified through searches of Scopus, Web of Sciences, PubMed, and Embase for studies published in English until May 2020 reporting data on the effect of the anteroom (vestibule) area in controlling hospital infections. Data from eligible articles were extracted and presented according to PRISMA's evidence-based data evaluation search strategy. Also, details around the review aims and methods were registered with the PROSPERO. From the database, 209 articles were identified, of which 25 studies met the study criteria. Most studies demonstrated that an anteroom significantly enhances practical system efficiency. The results showed that the equipment such as ventilation system, high-efficiency particulate absorption filter, hand dispensers, alcohol-based disinfection, sink, mirror, transparent panel, UVC disinfection, and zone for PPE change, and parameters like temperature, door type, pressure, and size of the anteroom are factors that are effective on the safety of the hospital environment. Studies demonstrated that providing an anteroom for changing clothing and storing equipment may be useful in reducing the transmission of airborne infections in hospitals.
