Abstract

The biological compatibility of coatings of subcutaneous implants was studied in rat experiments. The implants were coated with hydroxyapatite and hydroxyapatite modified by chloromethylsilanthrane (silamine). The coatings were found to inhibit lipid peroxidation and form the optimal ratio of connective tissue biopolymers in capsules forming round the implants. Both types of hydroxyapatites used were characterized by high biological compatibility.

Abstract

Tris(2-hydroxyethyl)ammoniates of ezo-substituted aroxyalkane-carboxylic acids were examined for their effects on in vitro platelet aggregation under the influence of biogenic amines, as well as in lipid peroxidation. Hemocoagulation was evaluated in vivo. The agents tested were demonstrated no be a promising class of platelet aggregation inhibitors. They possess antioxidative effects, by reducing the level of malonic dialdehyde in induced hyperaggregation and the rate of lipid peroxidation. When given to animals, the agents decreased the activity of prothrombin factors.

Abstract

The damaging effect of cardiopulmonary bypass on blood elements and the possibility of its correction with 1-(chloromethyl) silatrane have been investigated. Cardiopulmonary bypass is a powerful damaging factor producing a wide range of effects including the activation of lipid peroxidation, reduction of erythrocyte membrane resistance to ultra-sound, destruction of blood elements and appearance of hemoglobin in the plasma (hemolysis). A possible mechanism of cardiopulmonary bypass damaging effect on blood elements is suggested. The use of 1-(chloromethyl)silatrane drastically increases the resistance of blood element membranes to injury, which seems promising for the drug application during cardiopulmonary bypass.

Abstract

Within 72 hrs after chlormethylsilatrane administration into animals content of heparin increased in blood and, hence, formation of active fibrinolytic complexes of heparin with adrenaline, plasmin and plasminogen was observed. Simultaneously with the increase in total and nonenzymatic fibrinolytic activity of blood plasma chlormethylsilatrane, however, increased distinctly the fibrinogen content in blood.

Abstract

The effects of 46 drugs on luminol-dependent chemiluminescence of human whole blood leucocytes during phagocytosis were studied. Anti-inflammatory agents, antihistaminics and anticoagulants inhibited the chemiluminescent phagocytic response of leucocytes (CPRL) at concentrations comparable with therapeutic ones. LD50/ED50 (CPRL inhibition) factor of 3 is offered as the screening threshold for a number of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The possibility of using anticoagulants and anaprilin for the effect of resorption of myocardial infarction was postulated.
